The scattering of an atom in the field of counterpropagating light waves is studied under conditions such that the state of the atom is a superposition of the ground and excited states. For the case in which this superposition is created by the field of a traveling wave, the momentum distribution function of the atom after scattering by a standing wave is found analytically in the approximation of a short interaction time, when the atom’s motion can be neglected. Longer interactions of the atom with the field are studied numerically. We also consider the case of counterpropagating light waves consisting of Gaussian or supergaussian pulses. Zh. éksp. Teor. The interaction of a two-level atom with two light pulses which have different carrier frequencies and propagate in opposite directions is studied in the adiabatic approximation. It is shown that when there is a delay between the light pulses, the momentum of the atom changes, as a result of the interaction with the laser field, by a definite amount that depends on the amplitude of the light pulses and on the difference of their carrier frequencies. It is predicted that the momentum transfer to the atom is a step function of the amplitude of the light pulses.  相似文献

The excitation, breakup, and reradiation during the interaction of a positronium atom with ultrashort electromagnetic pulses are considered. The probabilities of inelastic processes and reradiation spectra have been obtained. The interference between the amplitudes of the photon emission by the electron and positron is shown to contribute noticeably to the reradiation spectra. The developed approach is applicable for describing the interaction of positronium with ultrashort pulses of attosecond or shorter duration.  相似文献

The interaction of atoms with ultrafast, counterpropagating optical fields is considered. The magnetic degeneracy and hyperfine splitting of the atomic levels are included in the calculations, which are carried out for arbitrary polarizations of the incident fields. The counterpropagating fields produce spatial harmonics in the ground state density matrix (gratings) which can be monitored by backscattering of a traveling wave probe pulse. Two types of excitation schemes are analyzed. The Magnetic-Grating Free-Induction Decay (MGFID) consists of excitation with a single counterpropagating wave field, while the Magnetic-Grating Echo (MGE) involves excitation by two counterpropagating wave fields, separated in time by T. The atomic response to the probe pulse is calculated in lowest-order perturbation theory for atoms cooled below the Doppler limit of laser cooling. Both the MGFID and MGE signals consist of pulses having a duration of order of the excited state lifetime, modulated at frequencies corresponding to the various hyperfine transitions. As a function of the delay between pulses, the signals oscillate at frequencies determined by the ground state hyperfine splittings. General expressions for the MGFID and MGE signals are derived and specific results are presented for the D2 line in Na.  相似文献

研究了原子在光晶格偶极势依赖原子动量情况下的运动, 特别考虑了偶极势对原子动量的依赖特性. 对动量和位置的方差研究表明, 原子的动量方差呈现压缩性质, 位置方差呈现放大性质.据此我们预言光晶格动量依赖偶极势中的单粒子态可能接近动量压缩线态. 研究结果还表明, 红失谐情况下原子的动量演化可分为三个过程: 第一个过程是慢减速过程, 初始动量较大的原子, 动量以近似阻尼振荡的形式衰减; 第二个过程是快减速过程, 当动量被减速到接近到光子动量时, 动量迅速减小到hk(Ω/γ)2, 其中hk为光子动量, Ω为拉比频率, γ为原子波函数衰减函数; 第三个过程是原子被囚禁过程, 当原子动能被降低到小于势井深度时, 原子被囚禁在晶格波腹附近. 关键词: 动量演化 光晶格 压缩态  相似文献

The regularities of the interaction of counterpropagating optical pulses of only a few oscillations of the light field in nonlinear dielectric media are studied theoretically. The temporal structure of the pulse field, due to its interaction with the counterpropagating pulse, is shown to be varied such that the field zeros are the most shifted in time and its extreme values are not shifted. The center of mass of the spectral density is shifted to the short-wavelength region. The efficiency of these phenomena is determined by the energy of the counterpropagating pulse and does not depend on its duration and spectral composition. The possibility of wave generation at tripled and combination frequencies is demonstrated for the media whose size is less than the interaction region. The efficiency of this generation with respect to the phase mutual modulation is shown to be increasing with a decrease in the number of oscillations in colliding pulses.  相似文献

We present analytical results and numerical simulations for the force exerted on moving atoms in the fields of two counterpropagating waves whose amplitudes or phases are described as stochastic processes. We assume that one field repeats the other with some delay, as would occur when the two fields derive from a common source through a beam splitter and mirrors. We show that, just as with the force exerted by the field of two counterpropagating sequences of π-pulses, or two counterpropagating bichromatic or frequency-modulated waves, the force on an atom in counterpropagating stochastic waves may considerably exceed the force exerted by the field of a single running wave. For comparison we also discuss the interaction of an atom with two counterpropagating waves when one of them is monochromatic and the other one has a stochastic phase. In this case the force substantially exceeds the force exerted by the field of a single running wave but appreciably smaller then the radiative force in the counterpropagating waves in which one field repeats the other with some delay.  相似文献

A model has been established for the interaction between a single-mode optical field and a 2-energy-level cold atom with exact analytic solutions given. The processes of momentum and energy exchanges between the optical field and the cold atom due to the interaction between them are discussed in detail, and a formula has been given for the variation of momentum and energy exchange volumes with time t in dress state while both the effects of photon recoil and Doppler effect are taken into consideration.  相似文献

A packet of photons interacting with a two-level atom is considered. It is shown that if the atomic dipole momentum transition vector is not parallel to the photon polarization, the linear photon polarization changes into an elliptical one. The upper-bound estimation for the ratio of short and long axes of the ellipse gives 0.2. The phenomenon is of a quantum origin and caused by the action of the atom on the photon packet.  相似文献

The efficient generation of intense X-rays and γ-radiation is studied. The scheme is based on the relativistic mirror concept, i.e., a flying thin plasma slab interacts with a counterpropagating laser pulse, reflecting part of it in the form of an intense ultra-short electromagnetic pulse having an up-shifted frequency. In the proposed scheme a series of relativistic mirrors is generated in the interaction of the intense laser with a thin foil target as the pulse tears off and accelerates thin electron layers. A counterpropagating pulse is reflected by these flying layers in the form of an ensemble of ultra-short pulses resulting in a significant energy gain of the reflected radiation due to the momentum transfer from flying layers.  相似文献

We extend all-optical quasi-phase matching of high-order harmonic generation into spectral regions where conventional phase matching is not possible. The high laser intensities required to generate harmonics at energy >130 eV, coupled with the resulting high level of ionization, preclude conventional phase matching in all nonlinear media. Selective enhancement factors between 40 and 150 in the flux of harmonics at photon energies around 140 eV are demonstrated using a train of two counterpropagating pulses.  相似文献

We study the interaction between a one-mode electromagnetic field and a two-level atom in the presence of a Kerr-like medium when the atom is prepared initially in the momentum eigenstate. The wave function is calculated by using the Schrodinger equation for a coherent electromagnetic field and an atom in the excited state. The effects of the Kerr-like medium and the detuning parameters on the statistical aspects of the intensity-dependent-coupling Hamiltonian such as, atomic momentum increment, momentum diffusion, the radiation force, and the field entropy are calculated. We investigate the effect of the detuning, Kerr-like medium and photon number operator on the field entropy.  相似文献

We study a recent experiment [K. Li et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 101, 250401 (2008)] on diffracting a Bose-Einstein condensate by two counterpropagating optical fields. Including the local-field effect, we explain the asymmetric momentum distribution and self-imaging of the Bose-Einstein condensate self-consistently. Moreover, we find that the two counterpropagating optical fields could not produce a perfect optical lattice, which is actually deformed by the local-field effect. Our work implies that the local-field effect could be essential for getting a better quantitative analysis of other optical lattice experiments. In particular, the intensity imbalance of the two optical fields could act as a new means to tailor both cold atom dynamics and light propagation.  相似文献

A novel scheme allowing for relativistic collisions of laser-accelerated electrons is introduced. Two spatially separated electron bunches are driven in opposite directions by two counterpropagating laser pulses until they reach the point of collision which lies within the laser fields. This method can be employed to accelerate electrons to the maximum kinetic energy which can be transferred to charged particles by plane propagating laser fields. Due to the symmetric setup, the center of momentum is at rest with respect to the laser propagation direction such that virtually the whole kinetic energy is available for particle reactions.  相似文献

We consider a model Hamiltonian derived from the interaction of an atom with a non-relativistic massless quantized field. The model atom has two states, and the interaction is linear in the field operator. We do not make the rotating wave approximation and there is no infrared cutoff. We prove that the excited state of the atom with no photons present decays at an approximately exponential rate in accordance with the predictions of time dependent perturbation theory. The proof requires some analyticity and regularity assumptions on the interaction between atom and field. These imply in particular that the interaction goes to zero at least as fast ask 2, ask0, wherek is the photon momentum.  相似文献

We study the electromagnetic radiation at twice the plasma frequency, which emerges because of the interaction of two identical counterpropagating short laser pulses in a rarefied plasma and caused by excitation of small-scale standing plasma waves in the pulse overlap region. The energy, spectral, and angular characteristics of radiation are investigated, and the dependence of these characteristics on the parameters of the laser pulses is analyzed. The possibility of applying this effect for diagnostics of localized plasma oscillations is discussed.  相似文献

在压缩真空态光场和二能级原子玻色-爱因斯坦凝聚体相互作用系统中, 应用全量子理论, 分别在旋波近似和非旋波近似下, 研究了原子激光的压缩特性以及原子本征频率、光场-原子的耦合系数、光场初始压缩因子以及虚光场对原子激光压缩特性的影响. 研究表明,原子激光的两个正交分量均可被周期性压缩,原子的本征频率决定了原子激光两个正交分量涨落的量子Rabi频率,光场与原子的耦合系数决定了原子激光正交分量涨落的崩塌-回复振荡频率,当光场初始压缩因子增大和考虑虚光场效应时,原子激光正交分量的压缩深度均加深. 关键词: 玻色-爱因斯坦凝聚 压缩真空态 原子激光 虚光场效应  相似文献
