Polymer solar cells (PSCs) made by poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) with multi-adducts fullerenes, [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM), PC61BM-bisadduct (bisPC61BM) and PC61BM-trisadduct (trisPC61BM), were reported. Electrochemistry studies indicated that PC61BM, bisPC61BM and trisPC61BM had step-up distributional lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy. PSCs made by P3HT with above PC61BMs show a trend of enlarged open-circuit voltages, which is in good agreement with the energy difference between the LUMO of PC61BMs and the HOMO of P3HT. On the contrary, reduced short-circuit currents (Jsc) were observed. The investigation of photo responsibility, dynamics analysis based on photo-induced absorption of composite films, P3HT:PC61BMs and n-channel thin film field-effect transistors of PC61BMs suggested that the short polaron lifetimes and low carrier mobilities were response for reduced Jsc. All these results demonstrated that it was important to develop an electron acceptor which has both high carrier mobility, and good compatibility with the electron donor conjugated polymer for approaching high performance PSCs.  相似文献

Four new low-band-gap alternating copolymers (P-1, P-2, P-3 and P-4) based on electron-rich benzodithiophene and newly developed electron-deficient units, thienopyrazine or dithiadiazatrindene derivatives, were synthesized by Stille polycondensation. All polymers exhibit good solubility in common organic solvents and a broad absorption band in the visible to near-infrared regions. The film optical band gaps of the polymers are in the range of 1.28-2.07 eV and the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy levels are in the range of-4.99 eV to -5.28 eV. Bulk heterojunction polymer solar cells (PSCs) of the polymers were fabricated with phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM) as acceptor material, and a power conversion efficiency of 0.80% was realized with P-1 as donor material.  相似文献

Fullerene derivative acceptors for high performance polymer solar cells   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Polymer solar cells (PSCs) are composed of a blend film of a conjugated polymer donor and a soluble fullerene derivative acceptor sandwiched between a PEDOT?:?PSS coated ITO positive electrode and a low workfunction metal negative electrode. The conjugated polymer donor and the fullerene derivative acceptor are the key photovoltaic materials for high performance PSCs. For the acceptors, although [6,6]-phenyl-C(61)-butyric acid methyl ester (PC(60)BM) and its corresponding C(70) derivative PC(70)BM are dominantly used as the acceptors in PSC at present, several series of new fullerene derivatives with higher-lying LUMO energy level and better solubility were reported in recent years for further improving the power conversion efficiency of the PSCs. In this perspective paper, we reviewed the recent research progress on the new fullerene derivative acceptors, including various PC(60)BM-like C(60) derivatives, PC(60)BM bisadduct, PC(70)BM bisadduct, indene-C(60) bisadduct and indene-C(70) bisadduct, trimetallic nitride endohedral fullerenes and other C(60) derivatives with multi side chains. The synthesis and physicochemical properties of PC(60)BM and PC(70)BM were also introduced considering the importance of the two fullerene acceptors.  相似文献

Four new solution-processible small-molecular platinum(II)-bis(aryleneethynylene) complexes consisting of benzothiadiazole as the electron acceptor and triphenylamine and/or thiophene as the electron donor were conveniently synthesized and characterized by physicochemical and computational methods, and utilized as the electron-donor materials in the fabrication of solution-processed bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells. The effect of different electron-donor groups in these small molecules on the optoelectronic and photovoltaic properties was also examined. The optical and time-dependent density functional theory studies showed that the incorporation of stronger electron-donor groups significantly enhanced the solar-absorption abilities of the complexes. These molecular complexes can serve as good electron donors for fabricating BHJ devices by blending them with the [6,6]-phenyl-C(71)-butyric acid methyl ester (PC(70)BM) as the electron acceptor. The best power conversion efficiency of 2.37% was achieved with the open-circuit voltage of 0.83 V, short-circuit current density of 7.10 mA cm(-2) and fill factor of 0.40 under illumination of an AM 1.5 solar-cell simulator. The spin-coated thin films showed p-channel field-effect charge transport with hole mobilities of up to 2.4×10(-4) cm(2) V(-1) s(-1) for these molecules. The present work illuminates the potential of well-defined organometallic complexes in developing light-harvesting small molecules for efficient power generation in organic photovoltaics implementation.  相似文献

In this article, we present the research on the influence of the composition of thin films of a blend of poly (3-hexylthiophene −2,5-diyl) - P3HT with fullerene derivatives [6,6]-phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester – PC70BM and [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester – PC60BM on their thermal transitions. The influence of molar mass (Mw) of P3HT (Mw = 65.2; 54.2 and 34.1 kDa) and PCBM (PC60BM – Mw = 911 g/mol and PC70BM – Mw = 1031 g/mol) is examined in details. The article presents significantly expanded research compared to our previous work on thermal transitions in thin films of blend P3HT (Mw = 65.2 kDa) with PC60BM. For this reason, we also compare current results with previous ones. Here, we present for the first time a phase diagram of thin films of the P3HT(Mw = 65.2 kDa):PC70BM blend using variable-temperature ellipsometry. Our research reveals the presence of characteristic temperatures of pure phases in thin films of P3HT: PCBM blends. It turns out that the cold crystallization temperature of the P3HT phase in P3HT(Mw = 65.2 kDa):PC70BM blend films is lower than corresponding temperature in P3HT(Mw = 65.2 kDa):PC60BM blend films. At the same time, the cold crystallization temperature of the PC70BM phase behaves inversely. We demonstrate also that variable-temperature spectroscopic ellipsometry is a very sensitive technique for studying thermal transitions in these thin films. In addition, we show that the entire phase diagram can be determined based on the raw ellipsometric data analysis, e.g. using a delta angle at wavelength λ = 280 nm.  相似文献

A series of soluble donor‐acceptor conjugated polymers comprising of phenothiazine donor and various benzodiazole acceptors (i.e., benzothiadiazole, benzoselenodiazole, and benzoxadiazole) sandwiched between hexyl‐thiophene linkers were designed, synthesized, and used for the fabrication of polymer solar cells (PSC). The effects of the benzodiazole acceptors on the thermal, optical, electrochemical, and photovoltaic properties of these low‐bandgap (LBG) polymers were investigated. These LBG polymers possessed large molecular weight (Mn) in the range of 3.85?5.13 × 104 with high thermal decomposition temperatures, which demonstrated broad absorption in the region of 300?750 nm with optical bandgaps of 1.80?1.93 eV. Both the HOMO energy level (?5.38 to ?5.47 eV) and LUMO energy level (?3.47 to ?3.60 eV) of the LBG polymers were within the desirable range of ideal energy level. Under 100 mW/cm2 of AM 1.5 white‐light illumination, bulk heterojunction PSC devices containing an active layer of electron donor polymers mixed with electron acceptor [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM) or [6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) in different weight ratios were investigated. The best performance of the PSC device was obtained by using polymer PP6DHTBT as an electron donor and PC71BM as an acceptor in the weight ratio of 1:4, and a power conversion efficiency value of 1.20%, an open‐circuit voltage (Voc) value of 0.75 V, a short‐circuit current (Jsc) value of 4.60 mA/cm2, and a fill factor (FF) value of 35.0% were achieved. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Four new polymers containing a benzo[c]thiophene‐N‐dodecyl‐4,5‐dicarboxylic imide (DIITN) unit including the homopolymer and three donor–acceptor copolymers were designed, synthesized, and characterized. For these copolymers, DIITN unit with low bandgap was selected as an electron acceptor, whereas 5,5′‐(2,7‐bisthiophen‐2‐yl)‐9‐(2‐decyltetradecyl)‐9H‐carbazole), 5,5′‐(3,3′‐di‐n‐octylsilylene‐2,2′‐bithiophene), and 5,5′‐(2,7‐bisthiophen‐2‐yl‐9,9‐bisoctyl‐9H‐fluoren‐7‐yl) were chosen as the electron donor units to tune the highest occupied molecular orbital/lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (HOMO/LUMO) levels of the copolymers for better light harvesting. These polymers exhibit extended absorption in the visible and near‐infrared range and are soluble in common organic solvents. The relative low lying HOMO of these polymers promises good air stability and high open‐circuit voltage (Voc) for photovoltaic application. Bulk heterojunction solar cells were fabricated by blending the copolymers with [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester or [6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM). The best power conversion efficiency of 1.6% was achieved under simulated sunlight AM 1.5G (100 mW/cm2) from solar cells containing 20 wt % of the fluorene copolymer poly[5,5′‐(2,7‐bisthiophen‐2‐yl‐9,9‐bisoctyl‐9H‐fluoren‐7‐yl)‐alt‐2,9‐(benzo[c]thiophene‐N‐dodecyl‐4,5‐dicarboxylic imide)] and 80 wt % of PC71BM with a high open‐circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.84 V. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of donors have been designed based on three building blocks, i.e., triphenylamine (TPA), 4,7-di(thiophen-2-yl)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (DBT), and oligothiophenes (5Th), to investigate suitable molecules toward solar cell materials. The donors are built by two donor fragments (TPA as D1 and 5Th as D2) and one acceptor fragment (DBT as A) in three topologies with or without linkages and electron-withdrawing groups. Their electronic and optical properties have been characterized by the PBE0/6-31G(d,p) and the TD-PBE0/6-31+G(d,p) approaches. The calculated results reveal that the asymmetric donor in the topology of D1-A-D2 with vinyl linkage and -NO(2) groups is a rational strategy to design novel material possessing a small HOMO-LUMO gap, broad and intense absorption spectra, and higher charge transfer ability. The promising donors for [6,6]-phenyl-C(61)-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM), bisPCBM, and PC70BM as acceptors are recommended theoretically for the first time for solar cells based on the proper match for frontier molecular orbitals between donors and acceptors.  相似文献

A series of novel low‐bandgap triphenylamine‐based conjugated polymers ( PCAZCN , PPTZCN , and PDTPCN ) consisting of different electron‐rich donor main chains (N‐alkyl‐2,7‐carbazole, phenothiazine, and cyclopentadithinopyrol, respectively) as well as cyano‐ and dicyano‐vinyl electron‐acceptor pendants were synthesized and developed for polymer solar cell applications. The polymers covered broad absorption spectra of 400–800 nm with narrow optical bandgaps ranging 1.66–1.72 eV. The highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital levels of the polymers measured by cyclic voltammetry were found in the range of ?5.12 to ?5.32 V and ?3.45 to ?3.55 eV, respectively. Under 100 mW/cm2 of AM 1.5 white‐light illumination, bulk heterojunction photovoltaic devices composing of an active layer of electron‐donor polymers ( PCAZCN , PPTZCN , and PDTPCN ) blended with electron‐acceptor [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester or [6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) in different weight ratios were investigated. The photovoltaic device containing donor PCAZCN and acceptor PC71BM in 1:2 weight ratio showed the highest power conversion efficiency of 1.28%, with Voc = 0.81 V, Jsc = 4.93 mA/cm2, and fill factor = 32.1%. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two β‐cyano‐thiophenevinylene‐based polymers containing cyclopentadithiophene ( CPDT‐CN ) and dithienosilole ( DTS‐CN ) units were synthesized via Stille coupling reaction with Pd(PPh3)4 as a catalyst. The effects of the bridged atoms (C and Si) and cyano‐vinylene groups on their thermal, optical, electrochemical, charge transporting, and photovoltaic properties were investigated. Both polymers possessed the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) levels of about ?5.30 eV and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) levels of about ?3.60 eV, and covered broad absorption ranges with narrow optical band gaps (ca. 1.6 eV). The bulk heterojunction polymer solar cell (PSC) devices containing an active layer of electron‐donor polymers ( CPDT‐CN and DTS‐CN ) blended with an electron‐acceptor, that is, [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM) or [6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM), in different weight ratios were explored under 100 mW/cm2 of AM 1.5 white‐light illumination. The PSC device based on DTS‐CN: PC71BM (1:2 w/w) exhibited a best power conversion efficiency (PCE) value of 2.25% with Voc = 0.74 V, Jsc = 8.39 mA/cm2, and FF = 0.36. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We use frequency dependent capacitance measurements to probe carrier mobilities and transport parameters of six representative semiconducting polymers and some of their bulk heterojunction (BHJ) blends. With a suitable choice of a hole injection layer, well-defined signals for hole transport characterization can be obtained for the pristine polymers [J. Appl. Phys. 99, 013706 (2006)]. However, ill-defined signals with negative capacitances, arising from undesirable electron leakages, are obtained for the BHJ blends. The problem of electron leakage can be circumvented by inserting an electron blocking and trapping layer under the cathode. As a result, hole transport properties of BHJ blends can be obtained. For the BHJ of poly(3-hexylthiophene) blended with [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (P3HT:PC61BM), the hole mobilities seem to be insensitive to the composition of the BHJ, indicating the P3HT component in the BHJ is well connected. On the other hand, for poly[N-9“-hepta-decanyl-2,7-carbazole-alt-5,5-(4′,7′-di-2-thienyl-2′,1′,3′-benzothiadia zole)] doped with [6,6]-phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester (PCDTBT:PC71BM), a clear reduction of the hole mobility is observed as the polymer composition is reduced. Temperature dependent experiments were performed. The data are analyzed by the Gaussian Disorder Model. We found that the energetic disorder is independent of the composition of the BHJ. Organic photovoltaic performances of BHJ blends are also measured in this contribution. The correlation between device performance and energetic disorder of the BHJ will be discussed. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys, 2013  相似文献

A series of novel acceptor-pended conjugated polymers featuring a newly developed carbazole-derived unit are designed and synthesized. The relationships between chemical structure and optoelectronic properties of the polymers are systematically investigated. The control of UV-Vis absorption spectra and energy levels in resulting polymers are achieved by introducing suitable pended acceptor units. The photovoltaic properties of the resulting polymers are evaluated by blending the polymers with (6,6)-phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester. The resulting solar cells exhibit moderate performances with high open-circuit voltage. Charge transport properties and morphology were investigated to understand the performance of corresponding solar cells.  相似文献

Organic bulk-heterojunctions (BHJ) and solar cells containing the trimetallic nitride endohedral fullerene 1-[3-(2-ethyl)hexoxy carbonyl]propyl-1-phenyl-Lu(3)N@C(80) (Lu(3)N@C(80)-PCBEH) show an open circuit voltage (V(OC)) 0.3 V higher than similar devices with [6,6]-phenyl-C[61]-butyric acid methyl ester (PC(61)BM). To fully exploit the potential of this acceptor molecule with respect to the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of solar cells, the short circuit current (J(SC)) should be improved to become competitive with the state of the art solar cells. Here, we address factors influencing the J(SC) in blends containing the high voltage absorber Lu(3)N@C(80)-PCBEH in view of both photogeneration but also transport and extraction of charge carriers. We apply optical, charge carrier extraction, morphology, and spin-sensitive techniques. In blends containing Lu(3)N@C(80)-PCBEH, we found 2 times weaker photoluminescence quenching, remainders of interchain excitons, and, most remarkably, triplet excitons formed on the polymer chain, which were absent in the reference P3HT:PC(61)BM blends. We show that electron back transfer to the triplet state along with the lower exciton dissociation yield due to intramolecular charge transfer in Lu(3)N@C(80)-PCBEH are responsible for the reduced photocurrent.  相似文献

Two low-bandgap (LGB) conjugated polymers ( P1 and P2) based on thiophene-phenylene-thiophene (TPT) with adequate energy levels have been designed and synthesized for application in bulk-heterojunction polymer solar cells (PSCs). The absorption spectral, electrochemical, field effect hole mobility and photovoltaic properties of LGB TPT derivatives are investigated and compared with poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT). Photophysical studies reveal bandgaps of 1.76 eV for P1 and 1.70 eV for P2, which could effectively harvest broader solar spectrum. In addition, the thin film absorption coefficients of P1 and P2 are 1.6 x 10 (5) cm (-1) (lambda approximately 520 nm) and 1.4 x 10 (5) cm (-1) (lambda approximately 590 nm), respectively. Electrochemical studies indicate desirable HOMO/LUMO levels that enable a high open circuit voltage while blending them with fullerene derivatives as electron acceptors. Furthermore, both materials show sufficient hole mobility (3.4 x 10 (-3) cm (2)/Vs for P2) allowing efficient charge extraction and a good fill-factor for PSC application. High-performance power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 4.4% is obtained under simulated solar light AM 1.5 G (100 mW/cm (2)) from PSC device with an active layer containing 25 wt% P2 and 75 wt% [6,6]-phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester (PC 71BM), which is superior to that of the analogous P3HT cell (3.9%) under the same experimental condition.  相似文献

A new donor‐acceptor copolymer, containing benzodithiophene (BDT) and methyl thiophene‐3‐carboxylate (3MT) units, is designed and synthesized for polymer solar cells (PSCs). The 3MT unit is used as an electron acceptor unit in this copolymer to provide a lower highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) level for obtaining polymer solar cells with a higher open‐circuit voltage (VOC). The resulting bulk heterojunction PSC made of the copolymer and [6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) exhibits a power conversion efficiency (PCE) up to 4.52%, a short circuit current (JSC) of 10.5 mA·cm‐2, and a VOC of 0.86 V.  相似文献

The new donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) monomers have been studied using density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) methods to evaluate the optoelectronic and electronic properties for bulk heterojunction (BHJ) organic solar cells. The TD-DFT method is combined with a hybrid exchange-correlation functional using the B3LYP method in conjunction with a polarizable continuum model (PCM) and a 6–311G basis set to predict the excitation energies and absorption spectra of all monomers. The predicted bandgap (Eg) of the monomers decreasing in the following order D1<D2<D3<D4<D5<D6<D7<D9<D8. Furthermore, open-circuit voltage (VOC) estimates for monomers with [6,6]-phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) acceptor. The VOC of the studied monomers ranges from 0.976 to 1.398 eV in the gas and from 1.109 to 1.470 eV in the solvent phase with PC71BM acceptor, which is sufficient for efficient electron injection into the acceptor‘s LUMO. The results show that theoretically, a maximum energy conversion efficiency of roughly 5 % for D8 and 5.8 5 % for D7.  相似文献

In this study, donor–acceptor random polymers containing benzotriazole acceptor and bistriphenylamine and benzodithiophene donors, P1 and P2 , were successfully synthesized by Stille coupling polymerization. The effect of bistriphenylamine moiety and thiophene π‐conjugated linker on electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical, and optical behaviors of the polymers were investigated. Optoelectronic properties and photovoltaic performance of the polymers were examined under the illumination of AM 1.5G, 100 mW cm?2. The polymers were characterized by cyclic voltammetry, UV‐Vis‐NIR absorption spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography. HOMO/LUMO energy levels of P1 and P2 were calculated as ?5.47 eV/–3.41 eV and ?5.43 eV/–3.27 eV, respectively. Bulk heterojunction type solar cells were constructed using blends of the polymers (donor) and [6,6]‐phenyl C71 butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) (acceptor). Photovoltaic studies showed that the highest power conversion efficiency of these photovoltaic devices were recorded as 3.50% with open circuit voltage; 0.79 V, short circuit current; 9.45 mA cm?2, fill factor; 0.53 for P1 :PC71BM (1:2, w/w) in 3% o‐dichlorobenzene (o‐DCB) solution and 3.15% with open circuit voltage; 0.75 V, short circuit current; 8.59 mA cm?2, fill factor; 0.49 for P2 :PC71BM (1:2, w/w) in 2% chlorobenzene (CB) solution. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Fluorescence-voltage/single particle spectroscopy (F-V/SPS) was employed to study exciton-hole polaron interactions and interfacial charge transfer processes for pure poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) nanoparticles (NPs) and composite P3HT/PC(60)BM NPs in functioning hole-injection devices. F-V/SPS data collected on a particle-by-particle basis reveal an apparent bistability in the fluorescence-voltage modulation curves for composite NPs of P3HT and [6,6]-phenyl-C(61)-butyric acid methyl ester (PC(60)BM) that is absent for pure P3HT NPs. A pronounced deep trapping of free electrons photogenerated from the composite P3HT/PC(60)BM NPs at the NP/dielectric interface and hole trapping by fullerene anions in composite P3HT/PC(60)BM NPs under photoexcitation lies at the basis of this finding. The deep electron trapping effect reported here for composite conjugated polymer/fullerene NPs presents an opportunity for future application of these NPs in nanoscale memory and imaging devices.  相似文献

Three dipyrrin-containing metal complexes and a boron dipyrromethene(BODIPY)-containing complex were designed and synthesized. The photophysical properties, electrochemical behaviours and photovoltaic performance were extensively investigated. Density functional theory calculations were also performed on those complexes. These complexes, together with electron-acceptor [6,6]-phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester, were utilized for the fabrication of solution-processed bulk heterojunction solar cells as the electron-donor materials. The more efficient electron acceptor BODIPY segment renders a lower energy gap and a relatively better photovoltaic conversion efficiency of 0.58%. These results prove that BODIPY segment has a great potential for constructing efficient organic solar cell materials.  相似文献
