The experimental excitation of intense collisionless shock waves (M 5) with subsequent plasma compression by the magnetic field of a shock coil is described. A magnetic plug > 20 kOe is produced in 100 × 10–9 sec by a current generator, a long line with 250-kV water insulation and a characteristic impedance of l At an initial deuterium-plasma density of 2 × 1014 cm–3, shock waves with a front width of 20c/03and a velocity of 5 × 107 cm/sec are recorded. The ion energy after the accumulation, determined from the neutron yield, turns out to be 2 ke V. Many data are available on the drag Cx and the distribution of the static pressure over the surface of a sphere [1, 2]. However, there are virtually no data on pulsations of the pressure over the surface of a sphere. In the present paper, the results are given of an investigation of the total and spectral levels of the pressure pulsations at different points of the surface of a sphere at M 0.5–1.0 and Re (1.7–2.7)·.106. It was found that the strongest pressure pulsations occur on the side in the region of the angle 90°. In this region at M 0.6–0.8 the relative total level o/q where q is the velocity head in the oncoming stream, reaches values 0.18–0.22. It was established that at M = 0.7–0.9 narrow-band maxima occur in the spectra of the pressure pulsations at frequencies Sh fD/V = 0.2–0.3. The motion of the plasma flux in an axisymmetric magnetic field is examined for a magnetic Reynolds number Rm 10, magnetohydrodynamic interaction parameter N 1, and Hall parameter 1. A laser plasma temperature of Te 20 eV is determined by the foil method from measurements in the region of soft roentgen radiation. The formation of pressure fluctuations at the inflow of a jet into a cavity (or the so-called resonance tube) was first observed by Hartmann. Further investigations showed that at the same time there is a heating of the gas in the cavity [1, 2]. It was established in [1, 2] that at subsonic and slightly supersonic velocities (M < 2.0) the cavity air can be heated up to 500–700 °K. Further investigations [4, 6] showed that by using monatomic gases inside the cavity one can reach even higher temperatures (T 800–900 °K). The resonance tubes find an application as powerful sound sources. There is also a possibility of their use in thermochemistry, and for the plasma production [6], In the literature, there is an absence of data on the resonance tube characteristics for large Mach numbers. In the present work we investigate the resonance tubes for M = 3.2–4.0. These investigations have shown that pressure oscillations can occur at these Mach numbers with the peak-to-peak amplitude of P 0.4·Po, where Po is the total pressure in the inflowing jet. Depending on the clearance between the nozzle and the cavity, both low- and high-frequency oscillations can be set up. It is established that the most intense shock-wave heating of the gas takes place at high-frequency fluctuations, although their amplitude is smaller in comparison with the low-frequency ones. The article is devoted to a verification of the law of similarity in the flow of a rarefied magnetized plasma around a body under conditions which simulate the conditions of flow around artificial earth satellites in the ionosphere. The law of similarity for flow around plates and cylinders of different sizes (R0/i0.5–1, V0/Vi1.5–2) is confirmed experimentally. It is shown that the patterns of flow around a plate and a cylinder coincide at small values of the parameter (=R0/zH). In planning for the underground storing of liquid hydrocarbons and calculating the technological parameters of underground reservoirs formed by leeching from a rock salt massif, it is necessary to understand the hydrodynamic and heat transfer processes produced by natural convection. The paper is devoted to numerical study of the initial stage of convective heat transfer in a vertical cylindrical cavity completely filled with a liquid hydrocarbon. It is assumed that at the initial time the temperature of the liquid, which is at rest, is homogeneous, Convective flow develops in part due to the initial temperature difference between the liquid and the massif and partly due to the geothermal temperature gradient in the latter. The problem is regarded as coupled, the convective process in the liquid being determined simultaneously with the solution of the heat-conduction problem in the surrounding rock. The Grashof numbers characterizing the intensity of the real process are very large: G lO12–lO15. A numerical solution was obtained for moderate Grashof numbers G lO7–lO11. The article gives the results of an experimental investigation of the pressure on a triangular airfoil with blunt edges with a half aperture angle =45° under angles of attack =0,5,10°, with M=11.6 and Re1.5×106. It has been observed that in a region adjacent to the axis of symmetry, at a certain distance from the apex, there is observed a considerable lowering of the pressure.Moscow. A novel LDA system using laser diode arrays and multi-mode fibers in the transmitting optics is presented. The use of high numerical aperture multi-mode step-index fibres results in measurement volumes with, for example, 80 µm length and minimal speckle effects. Because of the high spatial resolution and low relative fringe spacing variation of d/d5×10–4 the multi-mode fibre LDA is predestined for investigating turbulent flows. Boundary layer measurements carried out show excellent agreement with theoretical velocity profiles.  相似文献

The results are given of an experimental investigation of the transition to chaos and of the properties of the chaotic regimes in a wide range of Reynolds numbers: 460 Re 3200 7Re0. Estimates of the probability dimension of the attractors and Lyapunov exponents and the exponential damping of the highest-frequency part of the spectrum indicate a deterministic nature of the chaos in the considered range of Re. The relative density distribution in the rarefied CO2 flow field behind a perforated plate has been experimentally investigated on the range of Knudsen numbers 10–3 Kn 10–1. The results of these experiments serve to demonstrate the validity of using the molecular velocity distribution function for determining the relative density on the Knudsen number interval in question. We find that symptoms of polymer melt fracture, such as a time-dependent decrease in apparent sample modulus and apparent slip, can be induced by oscillatory torsional shearing flow of polystyrene melts and solutions, even when the polymer molecular weight is below the entanglement threshold, and thre strain amplidute is as low as 3%. Visualization of samples during and after fracture show crack and bubble formation, as well as delamination of the polymer from the rheometer tools. For polystyrene melts, the critical stress for fracture is * 0.1–1.0 MPa, depending on polymer molecular weight and temperature, and for solutions it is as low as 5 × 103 Pa. Since constitutive instabilities require the viscoelastic properties to be highly nonlinear, our observations of melt fracture in unentangled polymers at shearing strains well within the linear viscoelastic range rule out this mechanism for some of our experiments, and show that melt fracture is not always caused by constitutive instabilities.  相似文献

A study is made of the gasdynamical and optical properties of erosional laser plasma jets in the presence and absence of laser radiation. It is shown that in processes of plasma formation during the action of laser radiation of moderate intensity (q 107 W/cm2) on absorbing materials, the heating of the disintegration products by the attacking laser radiation plays an important role. The temperature distribution is obtained along the plasma jet which forms during the laser attack counter to its propagation in a quartz tube confining the dispersion. The temperature maximum is found at the exit from the tube, is caused by the heating of the erosional laser plasma by the incident laser radiation in the process of its one-dimensional gasdynamical motion, and indicates the screening of the surface from the laser radiation. The study of heat transfer in turbulent flow over a flat plate is very important, not only because this situation frequently arises in practice, but also in that data for an isothermal flat plate are used to calculate heat transfer in more complex cases. In particular, such data are necessary when one uses the limiting relative laws which allow calculation of the effect of compressibility, pressure gradient, blowing, and other perturbing factors [1]. Most papers dealing with heat transfer for an isothermal flat plate refer to comparatively low Re values, when the velocity distribution in the boundary layer over almost its entire thickness can be described by the universal law of the wall. However, as Re increases there is an increasing layer adjacent to the outer boundary in which the velocity distribution cannot be described by the law of the wall, and therefore the results obtained for low Re are inapplicable. The plane one-dimensional problem of the diffusion of a megagauss field into a metal wall is solved taking into account heat conduction and radiation transfer. At the interface, the magnetic field is assumed to be constant, and in this sense, the problem is close to the self-similar diffusion problem with parameters dependent on the self-similar variable x/ . It is shown that if heat conduction and radiation transfer are taken into account, in megagauss fields (in the examined formulation for fields B > 1.6 MGs) there is no loss of conductivity of the material evaporated by the magnetic field because of the formation of a plasma layer at the interface with a temperature in the electronvolt range. Experimental values of the coefficient of transverse dispersion (D T) were measured with the system 2-naphthol/water, over a range of temperatures between 293K and 373K, which corresponds to a range of values of viscosity () between 2.83×10–4 Ns/m2 and 1.01×10–3 Ns/m2 and of molecular diffusion coefficient (D m) between 1.03×10–9 m2/s and 5.49×10–9 m2/s. Since the density () of water is close to 103 kg/m3, the corresponding variation of the Schmidt number (Sc=/D m) was in the range 1000 – 50. More than 200 experimental values of the transverse dispersion coefficient were obtained using beds of silica sand with average particle sizes (d) of 0.297 and 0.496mm, operated over a range of interstitial liquid velocities (u) between 0.1mm/s and 14mm/s and this gave a variation of the Reynolds number (Re=du/) between 0.01 and 3.5.Plots of the dimensionless coefficient of transverse dispersion (D T/D m) vs. the Peclet number (Pem=ud/D m) based on molecular diffusion bring into evidence the influence of Sc on transverse dispersion. As the temperature is increased, the value of Sc decreases and the values of D T/D m gradually approach the line corresponding to gas behaviour (i.e. Sc 1), which is known to be well approximated by the equation D T/D m=1/+ud/12D m, where is the tortuosity with regard to diffusion.  相似文献

Summary This paper describes a torsional creep apparatus for the determination of the creep compliance in shear as a function of time. The instrument is suitable for the measurement of compliances below 5·10–8 m2/N, in the time range between 1 and 105 seconds. Within five minutes and with an accuracy of 1 C, the temperature of the specimen can be adjusted to any value between –175 and –200 C. From the torsional creep measurements can be calculated the dynamic shear modulus and the corresponding damping. The lowest damping, determined in this way, is several times 10–3.
Zusammenfassung Ein Apparat zur Messung des Torsions-Kriechverhaltens wird beschrieben. Das Instrument ist zur Bestimmung von Nachgiebigkeiten kleiner als 5·10–5 m2/N im Zeitbereich zwischen 1 und 105 Sekunden geeignet. Die Temperatur der Probe läßt sich innerhalb 5 Minuten und mit einer Genauigkeit von 1 C auf jeden Wert zwischen –175 und –200 C einstellen. Aus der gemessenen Kriechfunktion können der dynamische Schubmodul und die dynamische Dämpfung berechnet werden. Eine untere Grenze für die Dämpfung, die man auf diese Weise noch bestimmen kann, ist einige Male 10–3.

Thixotropy and antithixotropy were characterized in nuclear waste simulant slurries. For the neutralized current acid nuclear waste (NCAW) simulant slurries, NCAW with glycolic acid (NCAW+GA), and NCAW with nitric acid (NCAW+NA) (pH 4), a pre-shear flow at constant shear rate destroys the aggregates in the suspension and reduces viscosity. For the NCAW+NA (pH7–9), a pre-shear enhances the aggregates in the suspension and increases viscosity. With the addition of silica to the NCAW+GA and NCAW+NA slurries, the pre-shear effect tends to promote aggregation due to the formation of a network in the suspension, and hence, the viscosity increases. The macroscopic rheological property variation due to the microstructural aspects of the suspensions associated with the shear-induced effect are addressed.  相似文献

Summary The extensional flow of molten polystyrene was studied in the strain rate range of 7.8×10–4 sec–1 to 2.2×10–2 sec–1 at a test temperature of 300F (149 C) Extensional viscosity was compared to shear viscosity measured at the same degree of stress and temperature and found to be from 3 to 350 times greater in magnitude but much less stress dependent.  相似文献
