The effect of the location of a passive porous coating on natural disturbances in a hypersonic boundary layer is studied experimentally. The experiments are performed in the flow around a sharp cone aligned at a zero angle of attack with the free-stream Mach number M = 5.8, stagnation temperature T 0 = 370 ± 5 K, and unit Reynolds numbers Re1∞ = 2.6 · 106, 4.6 · 106, 6.6 · 106, and 107 m?1. The wave characteristics of the boundary layer are calculated with the use of the linear stability theory for flow parameters corresponding to experimental values. A comparison of experimental and predicted results shows that the presence of a porous coating in the region where the second mode is unstable leads to reduction of its amplitude at the measurement point, whereas the presence of a porous coating in the region of second mode stability leads to enhancement of the amplitude.  相似文献

On the basis of a numerical solution of the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations, the stability and the receptivity of a supersonic (M = 6) boundary layer on a flat plate with a passive porous coating partially absorbing flow disturbances is studied. The results of direct numerical simulation are in good agreement with the data of the linear stability theory. The studies confirm the possibility of effectively stabilizing the second mode of the supersonic boundary layer using porous coatings.  相似文献

Stability of a supersonic (M = 5.373) boundary layer with local separation in a compression corner with a passive porous coating partly absorbing flow perturbations is considered by solving two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations numerically. The second mode of disturbances of a supersonic boundary layer is demonstrated to be the most important one behind the boundary-layer reattachment point. The possibility of effective stabilization of these disturbances behind the reattachment point with the use of porous coatings is confirmed. __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika i Tekhnicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 48, No. 2, pp. 39–47, March–April, 2007.  相似文献

Interactions of disturbances in a hypersonic boundary layer on a porous surface are considered within the framework of the weakly nonlinear stability theory. Acoustic and vortex waves in resonant three-wave systems are found to interact in the weak redistribution mode, which leads to weak decay of the acoustic component and weak amplification of the vortex component. Three-dimensional vortex waves are demonstrated to interact more intensively than two-dimensional waves. The feature responsible for attenuation of nonlinearity is the presence of a porous coating on the surface, which absorbs acoustic disturbances and amplifies vortex disturbances at high Mach numbers. Vanishing of the pumping wave, which corresponds to a plane acoustic wave on a solid surface, is found to assist in increasing the length of the regions of linear growth of disturbances and the laminar flow regime. In this case, the low-frequency spectrum of vortex modes can be filled owing to nonlinear processes that occur in vortex triplets.  相似文献

In this paper, the temporal development of small disturbances in a pressure‐driven fluid flow through a channel filled with a saturated porous medium is investigated. The Brinkman flow model is employed in order to obtain the basic flow velocity distribution. Under normal mode assumption, the linearized governing equations for disturbances yield a fourth‐order eigenvalue problem, which reduces to the well‐known Orr–Sommerfeld equation in some limiting cases solved numerically by a spectral collocation technique with expansions in Chebyshev polynomials. The critical Reynolds number Rec, the critical wave number αc, and the critical wave speed cc are obtained for a wide range of the porous medium shape factor parameter S. It is found that a decrease in porous medium permeability has a stabilizing effect on the fluid flow. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The effect of an ultrasonically-absorptive coating on laminar-turbulent transition on cones with different nose bluntnesses is experimentally investigated. The experiments were performed with a cone with the semi-vertex angle of 7° set at zero incidence in the Mach 8 flow for three Reynolds numbers. A material with a chaotic micropore structure was used as the ultrasonically-absorptive coating. One side of the model, along its generator, was coated with the porous material, while the second represented a rigid surface. The laminar-turbulent transition location was determined from the results of heat flux distribution measurements. The heat flux fluctuations were also measured on the model surface. It was found that the laminar region length increased with an increase in the bluntness radius. The ultrasonically-absorptive coating with a chaotic microstructure effectively stabilizes the boundary layer for all bluntness radii considered, increasing the laminar region length by 30 to 85%.  相似文献

The results of the experimental investigation of the nonlinear stage of laminar-turbulent transition in the hypersonic boundary layer on porous and impermeable cone surfaces are presented. The bispectral analysis is applied to show that the porous surface suppresses the subharmonic resonance due to second mode disturbances. It is established that on the porous surface nonlinear processes develop more slowly than on the impermeable surface. This behavior indicates that the subharmonic resonance plays the role of a catalyzer in transferring energy from the mean flow to low-frequency disturbances in transition process, in much the same way as it occurs in a subsonic boundary layer.  相似文献

A mathematical model of wave propagation and instability on a charged surface of an infinite cylindrical column of a conducting fluid, surrounding a coaxial infinite porous core, is formulated and studied. The conditions are found under which the disturbances of the liquid column become unstable and result in its fragmentation into a chain of connected droplets. It is shown that the length of the droplets decreases with increase in the electric field.  相似文献

The interaction of disturbances in the compressible boundary layers on both impermeable and porous surfaces is considered in the linear and nonlinear approximations (weakly-nonlinear stability theory) in the presence of surface cooling. The regimes of moderate (Mach number M = 2) and high (M = 5.35) supersonic velocities are considered. It is established that surface cooling leads a considerable change in the linear evolution of the disturbances, namely, the first-mode vortex disturbances are stabilized, whereas the second-mode acoustic disturbances are destabilized, the variation degree being determined by the temperature factor. A porous coating used for controlling flow regimes influences the stability in the opposite fashion. For vortex waves the nonlinear interactions in three-wave systems at M = 2 are considerably attenuated in the presence of cooling. It might be expected that the cooling of the surface can delay the laminar regime for M = 2 and accelerate transition to turbulence for M = 5.35.  相似文献

A minimal model is obtained for vortex-shedding from an aerofoil with a porous coating of flow-compliant feather-like actuators, in order to better understand this passive way to achieve flow control. This model is realized by linearly coupling a minimal-order model for vortex-shedding from the same aerofoil without any such coating with an equation for the poro-elastic coating, here modelled as a linear damped oscillator. The various coefficients in this model, derived using perturbation techniques, aid in our understanding of the physics of this fluid–structure interaction problem. The minimal model for a coated aerofoil indicates the presence of distinct regimes that are dependent on the flow and coating characteristics. The models and the parametric studies performed provide insight into the selection of optimal coating parameters, to enable flow control at low Reynolds numbers.  相似文献

The linear stability of thermal convection in a rotating horizontal layer of fluid-saturated porous medium, confined between two rigid boundaries, is studied for temperature modulation, using Brinkman’s model. In addition to a steady temperature difference between the walls of the porous layer, a time-dependent periodic perturbation is applied to the wall temperatures. Only infinitesimal disturbances are considered. The combined effect of rotation, permeability and modulation of walls’ temperature on the stability of flow through porous medium has been investigated using Galerkin method and Floquet theory. The critical Rayleigh number is calculated as function of amplitude and frequency of modulation, Taylor number, porous parameter and Prandtl number. It is found that both, rotation and permeability are having stabilizing influence on the onset of thermal instability. Further it is also found that it is possible to advance or delay the onset of convection by proper tuning of the frequency of modulation of the walls’ temperature.  相似文献

In this paper, a detailed investigation on the flow past a porous covering cylinder is presented through the lattice Boltzmann method. The Brinkman‐Forchheimer‐extended Darcy model is adopted for the entire flow field with the solid, fluid, and porous medium. The effects of several parameters, such as porous layer thickness, Darcy number, porosity, and Reynolds number on flow field are discussed. Compared with the case of a solid cylinder, the present work shows that the porous layer may play an important role on the flow, the lift and drag force exerted on the cylinder. The numerical results indicate that the maximal drag coefficient Cd and maximal amplitude of lift coefficient Cl exist at certain Darcy number which is in the range of 10?6–10?2. The joint effect of the permeability and the roughness of the flat plate surface on the boundary layer stability and laminar-turbulent transition is experimentally and theoretically investigated at the freestream Mach number M = 2. It is shown that, as a certain roughness value is reached, and with increase in the porous coating thickness (on a certain range), the boundary layer stability against natural disturbances diminishes and laminar-turbulent transition is displaced toward the leading edge of the model.  相似文献

Results of numerical and experimental modeling of a supersonic flow (M = 4.85) around a model of a streamwise-aligned cylinder with a cellular-porous insert permeable for the gas on the frontal face of the cylinder are described. Experimental data on the influence of the pore structure and the length of the porous cylindrical insert on the model drag, pressure on the frontal face of the cylinder, and flow pattern are obtained. Numerical modeling includes solving Favre-averaged Navier-Stokes equations, which describe the motion of a viscous compressible heat-conducting gas. The system is supplemented with a source term taking into account the drag of the porous body within the framework of the continuum model of filtration. Data on pressure and velocity fields inside the porous body are obtained in calculations, and the shape of an effective pointed body whose drag is equal to the drag of the model considered is determined. The calculated results are compared with the measured data and schlieren visualization of the flow field.  相似文献

The stability of a conducting fluid saturating a porous medium, in the presence of a uniform magnetic field, is investigated using the Brinkman model. In the first part of the paper constant-flux thermal boundary conditions are considered for which the onset of convection is known to correspond to a vanishingly small wave number. The external magnetic field is assumed to be aligned with gravity. Closed form solutions are obtained, based on a parallel flow assumption, for a porous layer with either rigid-rigid, rigid-free or free-free boundaries. In the second part of the paper, the linear stability of a porous layer, heated isothermally from below, is investigated using the normal mode technique. The external magnetic field is applied either vertically or horizontally. Solutions are obtained for the case of a porous layer with free boundaries. Results for a pure viscous fluid and a Darcy (densely packed) porous medium emerge from the present analysis as limiting cases.  相似文献

The boundary-layer equations for two-dimensional steady flow of an incompressible, viscous fluid near a stagnation point at a heated stretching sheet placed in a porous medium are considered. We apply Lie-group method for determining symmetry reductions of partial differential equations. Lie-group method starts out with a general infinitesimal group of transformations under which the given partial differential equations are invariant. The determining equations are a set of linear differential equations, the solution of which gives the transformation function or the infinitesimals of the dependent and independent variables. After the group has been determined, a solution to the given partial differential equations may be found from the invariant surface condition such that its solution leads to similarity variables that reduce the number of independent variables of the system. The effect of the velocity parameter λ, which is the ratio of the external free stream velocity to the stretching surface velocity, permeability parameter of the porous medium k 1, and Prandtl number Pr on the horizontal and transverse velocities, temperature profiles, surface heat flux and the wall shear stress, has been studied.  相似文献

We study the stability of the flow which forms in a plane channel with influx of an incompressible viscous fluid through its porous parallel walls. Under certain assumptions the study of the stability reduces to the solution of modified Orr-Sommerfeld equation accounting for the transverse component of the main-flow velocity. As a result of numerical integration of this equation we find the dependence of the local critical Reynolds number on the blowing Reynolds number R0, which may be defined by two factors: the variation of the longitudinal velocity profile with R0 and the presence of the transverse velocity component. A qualitative comparison is made of the computational results with experimental data on transition from laminar to turbulent flow regimes in channels with porous walls, which confirms that it is necessary to take into account the effect of the transverse component of the main-flow velocity on the main-flow stability in the problem in question.Flows in channels with porous walls are of interest for hydrodynamic stability theory in view of the fact that they can be described by the exact solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations by analogy with the known Poiseuille and Couette flows. However, in contrast with the latter, the flows in channels with porous walls (studies in [1], for example) will be nonparallel. The theory of hydrodynamic stability of parallel flows has frequently been applied to nonparallel flows (in the boundary layer, for example). In so doing the nonparallel nature of the flow has been taken into account only by varying the longitudinal velocity component profiles. A study was made in [2, 3] of the effect of the transverse component of the main flow on its stability. In the case of the boundary layer in a compressible gas, a considerable influence of the transverse velocity component on the critical Reynolds number was found in [2] and confirmed experimentally. A strong influence of the transverse velocity component on the instability region was also found in [3] in a study of the flow stability in a boundary layer with suction for an incompressible fluid.  相似文献

In this study, the effects of transient thermal performance of a rectangular porous fin in the presence of radiation and natural convection heat transfer are considered. The porous fin allows the flow to infiltrate through it and solid–fluid interaction takes place. This study is performed using Darcy’s model to formulate heat transfer equation. To study the thermal performance, three types of cases are considered, namely, long fin, finite length fin with insulated tip and finite length fin with tip exposed. The effects of the porosity parameter Sh, radiation parameter G and the temperature ratio CT on the dimensionless transient temperature distribution and heat transfer rate are discussed.  相似文献

Results of a numerical and experimental study of characteristics of disturbances in a hypersonic shock layer on a flat plate covered by a sound-absorbing coating and aligned at an angle of attack are presented. Experiments and computations are performed for the free-stream Mach number M = 21 and Reynolds number Re L = 6 · 104. A possibility of suppressing pressure fluctuations in the shock layer at frequencies of 20–40 kHz with the use of tubular and porous materials incorporated into the plate surface is demonstrated. Results of numerical simulations are found to be in good agreement with experimental data.  相似文献
