This research proposes a practical multiport optical circulator design by using polarizing beam splitter cubes as spatial walk-off polarizers. The use of Porro prisms for directing light requires fewer components and improves space-efficiency. Therefore, a high performance device can be produced at a reduced cost. A six-port optical circulator prototype was fabricated to show the feasibility of the proposed design. The insertion losses range between 0.52 and 1.05 dB, the isolations range between 26.20 and 45.13 dB, and the return losses are 27.72 dB. The benefits of this design's simple and symmetrical structure include cost-efficiency, simple fabrication processes, polarization-independence, the resolve of polarization-mode dispersion issues, and high performance. Additionally, the number of ports can be increased easily.  相似文献

The AWG-filtering effect was investigated on a bidirectional 100-GHz-channel-spacing WDM-PON link using spectrum-sliced and RSOA-amplified light sources for downstream signals and a wavelength reuse technique for upstream signals. Three different AWGs including Gaussian, trapezoidal, and rectangular filtering types were applied and their signal performance was compared for link transmission. The performance influence to both directional signals was analyzed and optimized according to an extinction ratio of a downstream signal. It was found that there was an optimal pass bandwidth of AWG for achieving balance between relative intensity noise decrement and cross phase modulation noise increment as the bandwidth got wider.  相似文献

Conventional methods of measuring the various parameters of holographic optical elements are tedious for mass production. A novel approach is described for the holographic elements used in the holographic sight, in which the parameters are defined and measured as per their intended final application. Since the holographic sight is used for accurate target acquisition along with the other features, parallax in the sight becomes a critical parameter. Besides, the maximum brightness of the reticle is another parameter of the device, which is important for the use of sight in the strong sunlight in summers. There are two holographic elements, namely holographic reticle and holographic lens in the sight. Both can be tested in a simple set-up in terms of the parallax of the sight and the brightness of the reticle. The masters for both elements are required to be benchmarked once and rest of the elements in a mass production can be tested with the reference of masters.  相似文献

提出并论证了一种反射型四端口闭环光环行器的设计方案.采用该设计时所有光路端口均在器件同一侧,并可以采取两种光路结构获得光路循环的功能.理论分析了其实现原理以及各个光学参量,实验证实了该方案的有效性.设计结果表明,采用该方案能使光环行器结构更紧凑,减少了装配所需的元件,有利于降低器件成本和装配难度,器件性能与传统直通型双级法拉第旋光片结构的光环行器的性能类似.  相似文献

A new electrical-domain precoder is proposed to mitigate polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in optical communications by modeling a PMD-dominant fiber optical channel using a single input multiple output (SIMO) channel. Employing a bank of finite impulse response filters and a polarization modulator, and using parameters derived from the Jones matrix representation of PMD, the proposed precoder efficiently adapts to the time-varying nature of PMD and simultaneously pre-equalizes both polarization modes at the transmitter. The transmitter-only structure avoids losing phase and polarization information due to the nonlinearity of the commonly used square law direct-detection receiver. Analysis is performed to evaluate the impact of channel mismatch due to feedback delay, channel estimation errors, and the impact of the finite length of the precoder filters. The analytical results are used to guide selection of the appropriate feedback rate for the adaptive system. Extensive simulation results confirm the efficiency of the proposed Jones precoder, and present it as an effective, low-cost replacement to the complicated, expensive optical-domain counter-parts.  相似文献

In optical time-division multiplexing (OTDM) systems using the four-wave mixing (FWM) in a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) for time demultiplexing, the polarization states of control pulse and OTDM data lights are an important factor in the optical time demultiplexing process, which can influence the bit error rate (BER) of OTDM systems. In this paper, we analyze the effect of light polarization states on the FWM of a SOA, and use a simulation approach to study the BER performance of 100 Gbit/s OTDM systems that use the FWM in a SOA for optical time demultiplexing. It reveals that the BER or Q factor of OTDM systems is dependent on the misalignment θ between the polarization states of OTDM data and control lights. With increasing θ, both the optical power of resulting FWM component and the BER performance (or Q factor) of OTDM systems is degraded. For linearly polarized lights, our results show that the increase of BER and the reduction in Q factor are made smoothly when θ changes its value from 0° to 75°, whereas the degradation of BER and Q factor becomes rapid when θ exceeds 75°. Although the best system BER is obtained for θ = 0°, the BER performance can still tolerate some misalignment θ (e.g., up to 20° in our simulation). This is useful for the engineering design and applications of SOA-based optical time demultiplexers.  相似文献

Two robust systems for vibration measurements are presented. Both systems are based on low-cost laser diodes. The stability of the optical systems is achieved by implementing the optical system as a holographic optical element (HOE) while using a common-path interferometer concept for the measurement scheme. The former system facilitates real-time simultaneous tracking of vibrations about two axes perpendicular to the optical axis. The latter system is an electronic speckle interferometer working in a differential mode providing whole-field information on the angular deformation about one axis between two states of the object. It will be argued that these concepts will provide compact, self-aligning systems for industrial use due to the inherent possibility of mass fabrication.  相似文献

In this study, a bidirectional 60 GHz RoF systems based on four-wave mixing (FWM) in semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is proposed. Two key techniques are included in such a scheme, namely, generation of 60 GHz modulating signals and distribution of 60 GHz local oscillator. The analytical model is theoretically analyzed and then confirmed by numerical simulations. Results of this study demonstrate that such a scheme can offer realistic solutions to support future mobile broad-band applications.  相似文献

The polarization transform errors of two-waveplate polarization state transformers (TWPST), which consist of quarter-waveplate (QWP) and half-waveplate (HWP), are discussed in detail. The error model of the TWPST based on a new and simple two dimensions geometry method instead of traditional Poincaré sphere method or Jones matrix method are proposed. We did the numerical calculations based on the error model of the TWPST. The results show that the output polarization state errors of the TWPST are chiefly sensitive to the azimuth angle errors of the QWP, and that there exist a pair of optimal error azimuth angles of QWP and HWP, which can minimize the azimuth angle error of the output polarization state of TWPST, and that the ellipticity error of output polarization state of TWPST is dependent only on the azimuth angle errors of QWP. The TWPST have enough accuracy to evaluate the polarization related effects (PRE) in the optical communication systems.  相似文献

In Part I a conceptual overview and an assessment of the current status on the design of HOE have been included. In this paper, an optically controlled loop buffer is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. It utilizes a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) based loop mirror as a fast switch to realize the writing and reading of packets within this buffer and a circulator based optical reflector to achieve internal re-circulations. By adding fibers with different lengths between the loop mirror and the circulator, variable delay time per circulations can be obtained. We also demonstrate the performance of the 2.5 and 10 Gb/s data packets in this buffer structure, as well as the influence of the two different control signal formats on the packet signal degradation during buffering. This loop buffer has the merits of low cost and improved performance compared to other similar loop buffer structures. According to the obtained results, the achieved number of circulations is greatly increased.  相似文献

Polarization insensitivity is a fundamental requirement for wavelength conversion technique in the future all-optical networks. Our experimental results show that a co-polarization pump configuration based on four-wave mixing in high-nonlinear fiber can reduce largely the polarization sensitivity. We have theoretically investigated those experimental phenomena, and the theoretical analyses are in good agreement with experimental results.  相似文献

报道了一种利用单只半导体光放大器和光滤波器实现全光归零码到非归零码变换的新技术方案.当探测(Probe)光和数据信号光同时输入到SOA时,基于SOA中的交叉增益调制和交叉相位调制现象,探测光光谱的后沿和前沿将分别产生红移和蓝移.通过调节光滤波器和探测光的中心波长之间的失调量,滤出光谱的特定部分,可以得到转换后的NRZ码光信号.这种新型的全光码型变换器具有结构简单、偏振不敏感、控制参量少和稳定性高的特点.分别采用仿真和实验的方式实现了20 Gbit/s光数据信号从RZ码到NRZ码的全光码型变换,并且仿真结果和实验结果相吻合.  相似文献

A new type grating, tilted holographic planar structured dichromated gelatin (DCG) grating with large refractive index modulation, is presented in this paper. The grating is inscribed by superposing two coherent laser beams from the front and the thin side surfaces, respectively. The relationship between the tilted angle and the three types of coupling modes is analyzed when coupling with fiber. Besides, the couple mode theory and experimental investigation are applied on major characteristics analysis of the radiation mode DCG grating of tilted angle 45°. Due to the tilted planar structured grating has large refractive index modulation, it not only offers convenience for connecting (or integrating) with other fiber or waveguide-based devices, but also provide some special characteristics such as low wavelength selectivity (which is required for some applications such as multiple spectrum biomedical imaging). Therefore, this unique grating device has a wide application in optical fields such as for the waveguide-based, parallel, multiple spectrum imaging system.  相似文献

Simultaneous downlink performance improvement and uplink wavelength reuse in a full-duplex millimeter-wave (MMW) radio-over-fiber (RoF) system by using a simple and cost-effective all-fiber optical interleaver are proposed and demonstrated. The MMW RoF downlink performance improvement is based on suppressing optical carrier-to-sideband ratio (OCSR), with which the mechanism is confirmed by theoretic analysis and derived experimental results. Measured results show that, by suppressing OCSR using a fabricated all-fiber optical interleaver, the downlink optical receiver sensitivity is improved about 2.1 dB. The downlink data rate is 1.25 Gbit/s and the carrier frequency is 58.1 GHz; the link consists of 6 km optical single-mode fiber and 1 m wireless connection. On the other hand, with the interleaver suppressing downlink OCSR, simultaneously an optical carrier is recovered from the RoF downlink and is reused for RoF uplink transmission. The uplink is operated at 62.9 GHz and the data rate is the same 1.25 Gbit/s. With the recovered optical carrier, a laser-free remote access point is achieved. The principle, structure, and fabrication of an all-fiber optical interleaver are also presented in this paper.  相似文献

We propose a class of diffractive components allowing free-space optical systems to operate at the two telecommunication wavelengths simultaneously. These are fifth order diffractive components working at the sixth order at 1.30 μm and at the fifth order at 1.55 μm. Simulation results showing the link efficiency between two single-mode fibres as a function of the wavelength are presented. The width of the two transmission windows depends on the architecture of the whole system, which must be designed in accordance with technological realizability.  相似文献

To fully support phased-array antenna and other applications, a 3-range (long time, moderate time, and short time) delay line structures with holographic optical elements is proposed. Flexibility, light-weight, on-axis coupling, easy alignment, easy fabrication, and compactness are their advantages. When use holographic optical elements to build the photonic delay line system, all of the delay and non-delay paths in these three photonic delay lines are setting in a compact structure. They do not need any extra components, such as mirrors and optical paths in free space, and can bear stronger vibration. Therefore, the holographic optical elements are more suitable to design the photonic delay lines. In these three structures, their losses and crosstalk s are balanced. All of delay and non-delay cases in these three delay line structures, their crosstalk, signal-to-noise ratio, and loss are 1/81,000, 59.1 dB, and 3.2 dB, respectively. Finally, to support complete applications, a polarization independent photonic delay line system with holographic optical elements is proposed, too.  相似文献

提出了一种多参量调控角向偏振光束焦场强度和横向能流的方法.基于矢量衍射积分理论,数值模拟了非均匀螺旋相位和旋转对称振幅挡板调制下角向偏振光束的聚焦特性,讨论了螺旋相位结构和对称振幅挡板联合调制下,角向偏振光束焦场横向能流和偏振态的分布.结果表明:非均匀螺旋相位的引入改变了光场的聚焦特性,导致聚焦场重心产生了偏移;在偶数重旋转对称振幅挡板的联合调制下,焦场中出现了局部的椭圆偏振态和圆偏振态,且焦平面上出现了横向能流;通过调节螺旋相位,不仅可以实现焦场重心的特殊控制,还能进一步丰富焦场偏振态和横向能流分布.这种基于多参量调控焦场强度和能流分布的方法为实现操控特定区域的粒子提供了新的思路.  相似文献
