We report the experimental demonstration of a reconfigurable multiwavelength fiber laser source with switchable wavelength channels and tunable wavelength spacing by spectrum slicing a broadband light source using a tunable comb filter. The tunable comb filter is based on a thermally-induced linearly-chirped fiber Bragg grating (LCFBG). As an example to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method, two wavelength channels with various wavelength spacings and eight wavelength channels with ∼1.6 nm wavelength spacing were experimentally demonstrated. All the wavelength channels have rejection ratios of greater than 20 dB, and very small 3-dB linewidths of ∼10 pm. The multiwavelength optical source has such unique advantages as simple all-fiber structure, switchable wavelength channels, tunable wavelength spacing, very narrow linewidths, and stable room-temperature operation.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate a simple-structure but efficient multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser based on nonlinear polarization rotation assisted by four-wave-mixing (FWM). Based on the combination of these two nonlinear mechanisms contributing to intensity-dependent loss to alleviate mode competition, the stable multiwavelength operation at room temperature can be realized in a length of dispersion-shifted fiber. We achieved up to 38-wavelength generation with a spacing of ∼0.4 nm in the laser. In addition, through tuning the birefringence fiber filter, the lasing wavelength can be accurately tuned in the free spectrum range.  相似文献

A novel wavelength switchable all-fiber comb filter based on a dual-pass Mach-Zehnder (M-Z) interferometer is proposed and demonstrated. The proposed filter consists of a rotatable polarizer and a standard dual-pass M-Z interferometer composed of two 3-dB fiber couplers with a polarization controller (PC) in one arm. When the PC is properly set, the wavelength switchable operation is achieved by adjusting the polarization state of the input light. Theoretical calculation is verified by the experimental results. As applications, the proposed comb filter is incorporated into a fiber ring laser to generate wavelength switchable multiwavelength lasing.  相似文献

We demonstrate a multiwavelength fiber laser with ultradense wavelength spacing and ultrabroad bandwidth based on inhomogeneous loss mechanism with assistance of nonlinear polarization rotation. The inhomogeneous loss, implemented by incorporating a section of highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) and a Sagnac filter in the laser cavity, can balance mode competition in erbium-doped fiber and result in ultradense multiwavelength generation. The bandwidth of the multiwavelength spectrum is greatly broadened owing to the intensity-dependent loss induced by nonlinear polarization rotation. Stable multiwavelength lasing with wavelength spacing of 0.08 nm and wavelength number up to 254 is achieved at room temperature. Moreover, multiwavelength tuning is realized through modifying polarization-dependent cavity loss.  相似文献

Based on a piece of highly-nonlinear near-zero-dispersion-flattened photonic crystal fiber (PCF), a broadly tunable multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser is proposed by using a bi-directionally pumping scheme. This kind of PCF induces the modulation-instability-assisted four-wave mixing to generate new wavelengths. The proposed laser with excellent stability is tunable and switchable by adjusting the fiber Bragg gratings and the variable optical attenuators. The outstanding merits of the proposed multiwavelength laser are the flexible tuning and the ultrabroad spectral range over 150 nm. Especially, the proposed laser source can work at the wavelength of less than 1460 nm, overcoming the limit of gain bandwidth of erbium-doped fiber.

A stable and narrow wavelength spacing multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser is proposed and demonstrated. The laser can produce simultaneous dual- and triple-wavelength lasing oscillations with a narrow wavelength spacing of less than 0.1 nm via using a single fiber Bragg gratings written in polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber. By adjusting polarization controller, the wavelength spacing of dual-wavelength lasing oscillations can be tuned to as small as 0.032 nm. The maximum amplitude variation for every lasing wavelength is less than 0.5 dB. The room-temperature operation principle is based on the polarization hole burning and deeply saturated effect in an ordinary erbium-doped fiber ring laser (EDFRL). The laser has the advantages of simple all-fiber configuration, low cost, high stability and operating at room temperature.  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate a multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser stabilized by four-wave mixing (FWM) in a nonlinear silicon-on-insulator (SOI) waveguide. The optical gain was provided by an erbium-doped fiber amplifier, and the wavelength selectivity was achieved by a Fabry–Pérot comb filter in the ring cavity. The FWM in the SOI waveguide was enhanced by applying a reverse-biased p-i-n diode structure to reduce free-carrier absorption. Making use of the nonlinearity of the SOI waveguide, a multiwavelength laser with six output wavelengths at 0.8 nm spacing was achieved. The power difference among modes was equalized within a range of 1.8 dB. The power fluctuation of each mode was stabilized to <0.65 dB during 20 min observation at room temperature.

An all-fiber multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser (MEDFL) functionalized with evanescent-field-interacting graphene is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Graphene-polymer nanocomposites were deposited around the waist region of a fiber taper fabricated by flame-stretching method. Using the graphene-deposited fiber taper (GDFT) to induce four-wave mixing (FWM) as a power-equalizing device for suppressing the unstable mode competition in MEDFL, stable multiwavelength lasing around 1530 nm was obtained with a wavelength spacing of 0.56 nm, an extinction ratio of 33 dB, and a narrow linewidth per channel of <0.01 nm. The output spectrum of the multiwavelength laser has a good flatness, and the power fluctuation of each wavelength is less than 1.5 dB. Comparing with the traditional methods, such evanescent-field-interaction based graphene stabilizing mechanism for multiwavelength generation possesses unique advantages: (1) it can avoid the graphene thermal damage, (2) it’s a real all-fiber integrated structure, and (3) it provides a longer interaction length for exciting FWM more efficiently.  相似文献

The insertion of three continuous-wave optical frequencies in a low-dispersion optical fibre resulted in the generation of a high-repetition-rate train of ultra-short pulses and its simultaneous wavelength conversion. Two of the frequencies were spaced by ∼0.17 THz and multi-wave mixing generated a frequency comb to which is associated a train of 1.6 ps pulses. Wave-mixing between the generated comb and the third input optical frequency then converts the pulse train into different wavelengths. The Split-Step Fourier method was applied to numerically simulate the generation/wavelength conversion and results are in good agreement with experiments.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrated a new structure of a multiwavelength semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) ring laser based on a fiber Sagnac loop filter that can generate up to 25 stable output lasing wavelengths at room temperature. By varying the length of a polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber within the Sagnac loop filter, the wavelength spacing between the output lasing wavelengths can be changed to a desired value. By tuning a polarization controller (PC) within the Sagnac loop filter, stable multiwavelength 1550-nm operation with up to 17 lasing lines within 3 dB power level variation and with a wavelength spacing of ∼0.8 nm was achieved. The optical signal-to-noise ratios (OSNRs) of all the lasing wavelengths are greater than 40 dB.  相似文献

We report an experimental demonstration of muliwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser with adjustable wavelength number based on a power-symmetric nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) in a linear cavity. The intensity-dependent loss (IDL) induced by the NOLM is used to suppress the mode competition and realize the stable multiwavelength oscillation. The controlling of the wavelength number is achieved by adjusting the strength of IDL, which is dependent on the pump power. As the pump power increases from 40 to 408 mW, 1–7 lasing line(s) at fixed wavelength around 1601 nm are obtained. The output power stability is also investigated. The most power fluctuation of single wavelength is less than 0.9 dB, when the wavelength number is increased from 1–7.  相似文献

A multiwavelength fiber ring laser that is based on an S-band erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is developed. An optical switch is used to switch the multiwavelength fiber laser between S-band and L-band. This fiber laser can stably lase seven wavelengths in the S-band or 28 wavelengths in the L-band. Additionally, the lasing wavelengths with a signal-to-noise ratio of over 33 dB and a wavelength spacing of 100 GHz are demonstrated experimentally. The average powers of the lasing wavelength in the S-band and the L-band are −7.53 and −12.15 dBm, respectively.  相似文献

The generation of a multiple wavelength source using a bismuth-based erbium-doped fiber (Bi-EDF) in a linear cavity configuration is demonstrated. The configuration uses a pair of optical circulators at the input and output ends of the cavity to form a resonator for multi-wavelength generation in conjunction with optical couplers to inject the Brillouin pump (BP) and to tap the output at the two ends. The Brillouin erbium fiber laser (BEFL) comb with a 2.15 m of Bi-EDF has a wavelength spacing of 0.09 nm and operates in long-wavelength (L-) band region. A stable output laser comb of 50 lines is obtained at a BP of 1568.2 nm and 5 dBm and two 1480 nm pumps at 120 mW. The injected BP wavelength and power as well as the 1480 nm pump powers have a great effect on the number of lines and output power of the BEFL. This configuration is compact due to the use of the significantly shorter Bi-EDF as the linear gain medium, and can be made more compact by replacing the single-mode fiber with highly non-linear fibers such as holey fibers.  相似文献

A Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) which is used as a wavelength-spacing tunable comb filter in a fiber ring laser is built by employing an optical variable delay line (OVDL). Stable multi-wavelength semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA)-fiber ring laser based on an SOA and the MZI comb filter is achieved. Wavelength spacing can be continuously tuned by adjusting the OVDL and, as an example, multi-wavelength lasing with the wavelength spacing of 0.4, 0.8, or 1.6 nm is demonstrated. The output of the proposed multi-wavelength SOA-fiber ring laser is quite stable at room temperature and the output spectrum can be adjusted by controlling the bias current of the SOA.  相似文献

An all-fiber, wavelength-tunable, passively mode-locked erbium-doped ring laser is presented. Erbium-doped fibers (EDF) are used as the gain media because of their large gain bandwidth. Nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) plays the dual role of realizing mode-locking and effectively adjusting the intensity-dependent loss of the cavity. An unbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer (UMZI) is used as a tunable optical beam filter. By using the UMZI and adjusting the polarization controllers (PCs), a sub-picosecond mode-locking laser is realized that is self-starting with central lasing wavelengths that can be accurately tuned over a range of about ~ \sim 30 nm and also has controllable spacings between different tunable wavelengths.  相似文献

We present a multiwavelength source with a spectral width of 42 nm at -20 dB. The frequency comb is generated by spectrally broadening the output of an amplified 50 GHz Er:Yb:glass laser with a highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber. After spectral flattening the comb covers 37 channels with 5.4 mW average power per channel, and locking only one central wavelength channel to the International Telecommunication Union grid results in a maximum frequency error of 0.24% for all channels.  相似文献

The spectral and temporal processes in broadband pulsed-laser emissions of near-infrared dyes generated from low-Q and short laser cavities have been investigated with a rate equation model extended to a multiwavelength analysis. A very fast spectral evolution is proved, and this leads to the intrinsic presence of a single short pulse on the short-wavelength wing of the broadband IR dye laser spectrum. From the results, the direct generation of picosecond (≈90 ps)infrared dye-laser pulses adjustable in the 700–850 nm spectral range is successfully demonstrated with spectro-temporal selection, in a compact and simple device, using a nitrogen laser (337.1 nm, 8 ns) or a Q-switched ruby laser (694.3 nm, 25 ns) as a pumping source. We demonstrate a continuously wavelength-spacing-tunable and high-power multiwavelength fiber optical parametric oscillator based on the multiwavelength idler-output technique. The laser cavity for multiwavelength idler outputs is constructed by a pumped highly-nonlinear dispersion-shifted fiber as parametric gain medium, two highly-reflective chirped fiber Bragg gratings (CFBGs) and a superimposed CFBG as comb-like filter. At a pump power of 1.1 W, the idler output of 10 wavelengths around 1.56 μm is achieved with a wavelength spacing of 0.39 nm. The wavelength spacing can be continuously tuned from 0.39 to 1.0 nm by utilizing a cantilever beam-based chirp tuning method to change the FSR of the superimposed CFBG. Our experimental results show that the designed multiwavelength idler-output scheme can significantly increase the multiwavelength output power with a total output power of 98 mW and each idler-channel power of 16.3 mW.  相似文献
