We derive the jump in the specific heat at T=T c for a superconductor in a non-Fermi liquid model. We took into consideration the two possible limits in this problem: the spin-charge separation model for a Fermi liquid and the usual non-Fermi liquid model which satisfies the homogeneity relation for the spectral function , ). We report measurements of the structural and electronic properties of UCu5??? x Pt x , a Pt-based analogue of the nFL system UCu5??? x Pd x , in the concentration range 0≤?x?≤?5. Forx?≤?2.5 and x?≥?4.5, the UCu5??? x Pt x system crystallizes in the AuBe5 structure, but is mixed phase in the range 2.5?<?x?<?4.5. We observe a rapid suppression of long range antiferromagnetic order for small concentrations of Pt. The electrical resistivity, DC magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat of UCu5??? x Pt x in the concentration range 0.75?≤?x?≤?1 have temperature dependencies at low temperature (T?≤?10?K) consistent with the non-Fermi liquid behaviour found in UCu5??? x Pd x . Above x?=?1, there is a transition from non-Fermi liquid behaviour to Fermi liquid behaviour with no observation of any spin glass behaviour.  相似文献

The effects of interchannel scattering of conduction electrons by the impurity and repulsion of conduction electrons at the impurity site on the two-channel Kondo model are simultaneously considered in this paper,It is shown that these two perturbations will substantially modify the usual local non-Fermi liquid behavior of the two-channel Kondo model.With bosonization and unitary transformations we find that the system can be transformed into a single channel Kondo model with anisotropy between longitudinal and transverse exchange couplings,Whatever for originally antiferromagnetic or ferromagnetic isotropic coupling,the system always flows to strong-coupling limit,which exhibits local Fermi liquid behavior at low temperatures.  相似文献

Recently, in high-Tc superconductors (HTSC), exciting measurements have been performed revealing their physics in superconducting and pseudogap states and in normal one induced by the application of magnetic field, when the transition from non-Fermi liquid to Landau-Fermi liquid behavior occurs. We employ a theory, based on fermion condensation quantum phase transition which is able to explain facts obtained in the measurements. We also show, that in spite of very different microscopic nature of HTSC, heavy-fermion metals and 2D 3He, the physical properties of these three classes of substances are similar to each other.  相似文献

Heavy electron metals on the verge of a quantum phase transition to magnetism show a number of unusual non-Fermi liquid properties which are poorly understood. This article discusses in a general way various theoretical aspects of this phase transition with an eye toward understanding the non-Fermi liquid phenomena. We suggest that the non-Fermi liquid quantum critical state may have a sharp Fermi surface with power law quasiparticles but with a volume not set by the usual Luttinger rule. We also discuss the possibility that the electronic structure change associated with the possible Fermi surface reconstruction may diverge at a different time/length scale from that associated with magnetic phenomena.  相似文献

The O(3) symmetric Anderson model is an example of a system which has a stable low energy marginal Fermi liquid fixed point for a certain choice of parameters. It is also exactly equivalent, in the large U limit, to a localized model which describes the spin degrees of freedom of the linear dispersion two channel Kondo model. We first use an argument based on conformal field theory to establish this precise equivalence with the two channel model. We then use the numerical renormalization group (NRG) approach to calculate both one-electron and two-electron response functions for a range of values of the interaction strength U. We compare the behaviours about the marginal Fermi liquid and Fermi liquid fixed points and interpret the results in terms of a renormalized Majorana fermion picture of the elementary excitations. In the marginal Fermi liquid case the spectral densities of all the Majorana fermion modes display a dependence on the lowest energy scale, and in addition the zero Majorana mode has a delta function contribution. The weight of this delta function is studied as a function of the interaction U and is found to decrease exponentially with U for large U. Using the equivalence with the two channel Kondo model in the large U limit, we deduce the dynamical spin susceptibility of the two channel Kondo model over the full frequency range. We use renormalized perturbation theory to interpret the results and to calculate the coefficient of the ln divergence found in the low frequency behaviour of the T=0 dynamic susceptibility. We observe several non-Fermi liquid behaviors in the normal-state transport properties of CeMIn5 (M: Rh and Co) under pressure at low temperatures: (1) The dc-resistivity shows T-linear dependence, ρxxT. (2) The magnitude of Hall coefficient |RH| increases rapidly with decreasing temperature, and reaches a value much larger than |1/ne| at low temperatures. (3) The magnetoresistance displays T- and H-dependence that strongly violate Kohler's rule, and is well scaled by the tangent of the Hall angle, . These non-Fermi liquid properties in the electron transport are remarkably pronounced when the AF fluctuations are enhanced in the vicinity of the quantum critical point. Since all of these salient features have been also reported for high-Tc cuprates, we infer that the non-Fermi liquid transport properties capture universal features of strongly correlated electron systems in the presence of strong antiferromagnetic fluctuations.  相似文献

We propose a phenomenological approach to quantum liquids of particles obeying generalized statistics of a fermionic type, in the spirit of the Landau Fermi liquid theory. The approach is developed for fractional exclusion statistics. We discuss both equilibrium (specific heat, compressibility, and Pauli spin susceptibility) and nonequilibrium (current and thermal conductivities, thermopower) properties. Low-temperature quantities have the same temperature dependences as for the Fermi liquid, with the coefficients depending on the statistics parameter. The novel quantum liquids provide an explicit realization of systems with a non-Fermi liquid Lorentz ratio in two and more dimensions. Consistency of the theory is verified by deriving the compressibility and f-sum rules.  相似文献

Symmetry-breaking perturbations destabilize the critical points of the two-channel and two-impurity Kondo models, thereby leading to a crossover from non-Fermi liquid behavior to standard Fermi liquid physics. Here we use an analogy between this crossover and one occurring in the boundary Ising model to calculate the full crossover Green function analytically. In remarkable agreement with our numerical renormalization group calculations, the single exact function applies for an arbitrary mixture of the relevant perturbations in each model. This rich behavior resulting from finite channel asymmetry, interlead charge transfer, and/or magnetic field should be observable in quantum dot or tunneling experiments.  相似文献

We study the energy and spatial dependence of the local density of states in a superconductor--correlated-metal--superconductor Josephson junction, where the correlated metal is a non-Fermi liquid (described by the Falicov-Kimball model). Many-body correlations are treated with dynamical mean-field theory, extended to inhomogeneous systems. While quasiclassical theories predict a minigap in the spectrum of a disordered Fermi liquid which is proximity-coupled within a mesoscopic junction, we find that increasing electron correlations destroy any minigap that might be opened in the absence of many-body correlations.  相似文献

The Numerical Renormalization Group (NRG) is applied to diagonalize a two-channel Anderson model describing a local magnetic impurity embedded in a fermionic bath. In spite of the difficulty in computing the specific heat using NRG, the interleaving discretization and multi-step iterative transformation virtually eliminate the numerical oscillations introduced by the logarithmic discretization of the conduction band. These allow to cover uniformly a large range of temperature, from the top of the band to a very small fraction of the bandwidth. This is relevant in describing, for instance, the presence of a low temperature Kondo resonance together with a high temperature Schottky peak, as well to cover Fermi and non-Fermi liquid regimes, like in the recent studied Ce1−xLaxNi9Ge4 family. We highlight the importance in describing the Schottky peak to define the number of degrees of freedom of the local levels, in order to correctly define the model to describe a given compound.  相似文献

We present measurements of the temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity ρ(T) of CeRhSn up to ~27 kbar. At low temperatures, ρ(T) varies linearly with T for all pressures, indicating non-Fermi liquid behavior. Below Tf ~ 6 K, ρ(T) deviates from a linear dependence. We found that the low-T feature centered at T = Tf shows a pressure dependence ?Tf/?P ≈ 30 mK kbar?1 which is typical of canonical spin glasses. This interplay between spin-glass-like and non-Fermi liquid behavior was observed in both CeRhSn and a Ce0.9La0.1RhSn alloy.  相似文献

We clarify effects of zeros of the Green function on a Fermi arc and on a non-Fermi liquid behavior in the two-dimensional Hubbard model by means of the cellular dynamical mean-field theory (CDMFT). We study in detail the state with a hole-pocket Fermi surface and zeros of the Green function, which was found for a slightly doped Mott insulator in an earlier CDMFT calculation [T.D. Stanescu, G. Kotliar, Phys. Rev. B 74 (2006) 125110; T.D. Stanescu, M. Civelli, K. Haule, G. Kotliar, Ann. Phys. (N.Y.) 321 (2006) 1682]. As thermal or other extrinsic scatterings of electrons broaden the zeros, regions around the zero surface gain an imaginary part of the self-energy, which strongly suppresses the spectral intensity, especially on the closer side of the hole pocket to the zero surface. Then the rest emerges as a Fermi arc. Quasiparticle weight becomes ill defined on the closer side of the Fermi pocket while it is well defined on the opposite side, which means that a differentiation of electrons occurs in the momentum space, indicating an emergence of a non-Fermi liquid phase.  相似文献

We show that in the Anderson model for a two-dimensional non-Fermi liquid a magnetic instability can lead to the itinerant electron ferromagnetism. The critical temperature and the susceptibility of the paramagnetic phase have been analytically calculated. The behavior of the electronic system of heavy-fermion metals is considered. We show that there exist at least two main types of the behavior when the system is near quantum critical point, which can be identified as the fermion condensation quantum phase transition (FCQPT). We show that the first type is represented by the behavior of a highly correlated Fermi liquid, while the second type is depicted by the behavior of a strongly correlated Fermi liquid. If the system approaches FCQPT from the disordered phase, it can be viewed as a highly correlated Fermi liquid which at low temperatures exhibits the behavior of Landau Fermi liquid (LFL). At higher temperatures T, it demonstrates the non-Fermi liquid (NFL) behavior which can be converted into the LFL behavior by the application of magnetic fields B. If the system has undergone FCQPT, it can be considered as a strongly correlated Fermi liquid which demonstrates the NFL behavior even at low temperatures. It can be turned into LFL by applying magnetic fields B. We show that the effective mass M* diverges at the very point that the Neél temperature goes to zero. The B-T phase diagrams of both liquids are studied. We demonstrate that these B-T phase diagrams have a strong impact on the main properties of heavy-fermion metals, such as the magnetoresistance, resistivity, specific heat, magnetization, and volume thermal expansion.  相似文献
