The adiabatic geometric phase is calculated in a coupled two quantum dot system, which is entangled through Förster interaction. This phase is then utilized for implementing basic quantum logic gate operation useful in quantum information processing. Such gates based on geometric phase provide fault-tolerant quantum computing.

The possibility of realization of quantum gates by means of the nonadiabatic geometric phase is considered. It is shown that the nonadiabatic phase can be used for realization of quantum gates as successfully as the adiabatic phase.

High-fidelity quantum gates are essential for large-scale quantum computation. However, any quantum manipulation will inevitably affected by noises, systematic errors and decoherence effects, which lead to infidelity of a target quantum task. Therefore, implementing high-fidelity, robust and fast quantum gates is highly desired. Here, we propose a fast and robust scheme to construct high-fidelity holonomic quantum gates for universal quantum computation based on resonant interaction of three-level quantum systems via shortcuts to adiabaticity. In our proposal, the target Hamiltonian to induce noncyclic non-Abelian geometric phases can be inversely engineered with less evolution time and demanding experimentally, leading to high-fidelity quantum gates in a simple setup. Besides, our scheme is readily realizable in physical system currently pursued for implementation of quantum computation. Therefore, our proposal represents a promising way towards fault-tolerant geometric quantum computation.

We propose a scheme for realizing a controlled geometric phase gate for twoneutral atoms. We apply the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage to transferatoms from their ground states into Rydberg excited states, and use theRydberg interaction induced energy shifts to generate geometric phase andconstruct quantum gates.

Stark-chirped rapid adiabatic passage (SCRAP) is an important technique used for coherent quantum controls. In this paper we investigate how the practically-existing dissipation of the system influences on the efficiency of the passage, and thus the fidelities of the SCRAP-based quantum gates. With flux-biased Josephson qubits as a specifical example, our results show clearly that the efficiency of the logic gates implemented by SCRAP are robust against the weak dissipation. The influence due to the non-adiabtic transitions between the adiabatic passages is comparatively significantly small. Therefore, the SCRAP-based logic gates should be feasible for the realistic physical systems with noises.

Geometric phases are robust to local noises and the nonadiabatic ones can reduce the evolution time, thus nonadiabatic geometric gates have strong robustness and can approach high fidelity. However, the advantage of geometric phase has not been fully explored in previous investigations. Here,a scheme is proposed for universal quantum gates with pure nonadiabatic and noncyclic geometric phases from smooth evolution paths. In the scheme, only geometric phase can be accumulated in a fast way, and thus it not only fully utilizes the local noise resistant property of geometric phase but also reduces the difficulty in experimental realization. Numerical results show that the implemented geometric gates have stronger robustness than dynamical gates and the geometric scheme with cyclic path. Furthermore, it proposes to construct universal quantum gate on superconducting circuits, with the fidelities of single-qubit gate and nontrivial two-qubit gate can achieve 99.97% and 99.87%, respectively. Therefore, these high-fidelity quantum gates are promising for large-scale fault-tolerant quantum computation.

We investigate the Berry phase of adiabatic quantum evolution in the atom-molecule conversion system that is governed by a nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We find that the Berry phase consists of two parts: the usual Berry connection term and a novel term from the nonlinearity brought forth by the atom-molecule coupling. The total geometric phase can be still viewed as the flux of the magnetic field of a monopole through the surface enclosed by a closed path in parameter space. The charge of the monopole, however, is found to be one third of the elementary charge of the usual quantized monopole. We also derive the classical Hannay angle of a geometric nature associated with the adiabatic evolution. It exactly equals minus Berry phase, indicating a novel connection between Berry phase and Hannay angle in contrast to the usual derivative form.

We propose an approach to coherently transfer populations between selected quantum states in one- and two-qubit systems by using controllable Stark-chirped rapid adiabatic passages. These evolution-time insensitive transfers, assisted by easily implementable single-qubit phase-shift operations, could serve as elementary logic gates for quantum computing. Specifically, this proposal could be conveniently demonstrated with existing Josephson phase qubits. Our proposal can find an immediate application in the readout of these qubits. Indeed, the broken parity symmetries of the bound states in these artificial atoms provide an efficient approach to design the required adiabatic pulses.

A nuclear spin can act as a quantum switch that turns on or off ultracold collisions between atoms even when there is neither interaction between nuclear spins nor between the nuclear and electron spins. This "exchange blockade" is a new mechanism for implementing quantum logic gates that arises from the symmetry of composite identical particles, rather than direct coupling between qubits. We study the implementation of the entangling sqrt SWAP gate based on this mechanism for a model system of two atoms, each with ground electronic configuration 1S0, spin 1/2 nuclei, and trapped in optical tweezers. We evaluate a proof-of-principle protocol based on adiabatic evolution of a one-dimensional double Gaussian well, calculating fidelities of operation as a function of interaction strength, gate time, and temperature.

We propose a new class of unconventional geometric gates involving nonzero dynamic phases, and elucidate that geometric quantum computation can be implemented by using these gates. Comparing with the conventional geometric gate operation, in which the dynamic phase shift must be removed or avoided, the gates proposed here may be operated more simply. We illustrate in detail that unconventional nontrivial two-qubit geometric gates with built-in fault-tolerant geometric features can be implemented in real physical systems.

The concept of a geometric phase (Berry's phase) is generalized to the case of noneigenstates, which is applicable to both linear and nonlinear quantum systems. This is particularly important to nonlinear quantum systems, where, due to the lack of the superposition principle, the adiabatic evolution of a general state cannot be described in terms of eigenstates. For linear quantum systems, our new geometric phase reduces to a statistical average of Berry's phases. Our results are demonstrated with a nonlinear two-level model.

We propose a scheme for implementation of a universal set of quantum logic gates in decoherence-free subspace with atoms trapped in distant cavities connected by optical fibers. The selective dispersive couplings between the ground states and the first-excited states of the atom-cavity-fiber system produce a state-dependent Stark shift, which can be used to implement nonlocal phase gates between two logic qubits. The single-logic-qubit quantum gates are achieved by the local two-atom collision and the Stark shift of a single atom.During all the logic operations, the logic qubits remain in decoherence-free subspace and thus the operation is immune to collective dephasing.

It is well known that multiple superconducting charge qubits coupled to a transmission line resonator can be controlled to achieve quantum logic gates between two arbitrary qubits. We propose a scheme to realize a quantum conditional phase gate with a geometric property by circuit electrodynamics, and it is applied naturally to reaJize the quantum Fourier transform with high fidelity. It is also demonstrated that the application is feasible and considerable under the present experimental technology.

Implementation of quantum logical gates for multilevel systems is demonstrated through decoherence control under the quantum adiabatic method using simple phase modulated laser pulses. We make use of selective population inversion and Hamiltonian evolution with time to achieve such goals robustly instead of the standard unitary transformation language.

We propose a scheme to produce quantum phase gates for trapped ions. Taking advantage of the adiabatic evolution, the operation is insensitive to small fluctuations of experimental parameters. Furthermore, the spontaneous emission is suppressed since the ions have no probability of being populated in the electronic excited states.

We present a rigorous proof that quantum circuit algorithm can be transformed into quantum adiabatic algorithm with the exact same time complexity. This means that from a quantum circuit algorithm of L gates we can construct a quantum adiabatic algorithm with time complexity of O(L). Additionally, our construction shows that one may exponentially speed up some quantum adiabatic algorithms by properly choosing an evolution path.

The generalization of geometric phase from the pure states to the mixed states may have potential applications in constructing geometric quantum gates. We here investigate the mixed state geometric phases and visibilities of the trapped ion system in both non-degenerate and degenerate cases. In the proposed quantum system, the geometric phases are determined by the evolution time, the initial states of trapped ions, and the initial states of photons. Moreover, special periods are gained under which the geometric phases do not change with the initial states changing of photon parts in both non-degenerate and degenerate cases. The high detection efficiency in the ion trap system implies that the mixed state geometric phases proposed here can be easily tested.
