This paper summarizes several key points in applying the microwave preparation technique to the elemental analysis of aquatic sediments and reports systematic experiments in searching for an optimal microwave preparation procedure for element analysis in sediment samples. The determination of the elements Cu, Pb and Cd in a standard reference aquatic sediment sample (CRM 280, COMEUR) was achieved by first digesting the samples in a microwave oven equipped with PFA advanced composite vessels, followed by AAS measurement. The influence of microwave power, digestion time, various dissolution reagents and the HF removing conditions was studied. It has been shown that for a 0.1 g sediment sample the optimal microwave preparation conditions are: 4–5ml HNO3/HF/H2O2 as solvent, digesting time 30 min with 100% microwave power and evaporating the residual acid within 8 min in an open vessel at 80 °C. The element recovery rates with AAS measurement can reach up to 92.4–100.6%. Received: 23 July 1996/Revised: 23 September 1996/Accepted: 25 September 1996  相似文献

A Laser-Excited Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometric (LEAFS) method for Tl determination has been extended to investigate the direct determination (without preconcentration nor acid digestion) of total Pb, for which the method validation was successfully achieved by using a standard reference material as well as many spike recoveries of digested and undigested unfiltered water samples. The method was applied to study total and dissolved Pb in many water columns collected from different stations in Lake Ontario. Dissolved Pb was found to be about twice as much as dissolved Tl, and total Pb about seven times higher than total Tl. Seventy five percent of Pb is in particulate form versus 11% for Tl. Also, a simple cold dissolution procedure using HNO(3) and HF (not a hot acid digestion) is proposed to "liquefy" sediments in a form suitable for LEAFS analysis and was used to analyze a sediment core, where pore water samples were also collected. The interaction dynamics of Tl within the natural environment of a water/pore water/sediment system from Lake Erie was assessed. The calculations of fluxes suggest a strong similarity between Tl and Cd geochemical transport. The paper also presents for the first time a genuine sediment pore water profile of Tl concentration, which ranged from sub- to 40 ng/l and which was directly determined by LEAFS.  相似文献

The effectiveness of a new polymer based solid phase extraction cartridge (SDB 1) to recover phenolic compounds from aqueous samples has been evaluated by comparison of performance against conventional silica based cartridges. The polymer based material is found to be much more retentive, requiring a larger volume of solvent to achieve maximum recovery. Recovery efficiency is enhanced if the recovery solvent (methanol) is acidified to 0.1% with trifluoroacetic acid. The optimised extraction procedure has been applied to surface water samples and yields quantitative recovery at the 10 ng ml-1 level of all nine phenols studied. Different methods for the determination of several metals in soils by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) were investigated. Different procedures for total dissolution of soil: I – HF+HClO4, H3BO3, HCl digestion (conventional heating), II – HF+HClO4, H3BO3 digestion followed by fusion with LiBO2 (conventional heating) and III – HF+HCl+HNO3, H3BO3 digestion (microwave heating), as well as a leaching procedure with HNO3+HClO4, HCl were tested and compared. For quality assessment, the certified reference material S-1 soil was used. For most of the investigated metals, the best accuracy and precision were achieved when the procedure I or III were used. The developed procedure was applied to the analysis of soil samples from crude oil refinery and dump of petroleum origin wastes regions.  Distillation as a way of sample digestion has been combined with on-line RP C18 preconcentration and HPLC-UV-PCO-CVAAS (high performance liquid chromatography – ultra violet – post column oxidation – cold vapour atomic absorption spectrometry) for the determination of methylmercury at background levels in sediments, soils and fish tissue. To prove the accuracy of this method, it was applied to sediment and fish tissue reference materials. The results correspond with the reference values within their error ranges. Excellent recoveries (92–95%) were obtained for the sediment samples by means of the standard addition method. The standard deviations of the sediment samples were within an acceptable range (7.2–12.5%), those of the fish samples were substantially lower (3.4–5.0%). The detection limit is 0.04 ng/g for 1 g sample weight. Received: 23 November 1995/Revised: 16 April 1996/Accepted: 20 April 1996  相似文献

Simple and rapid analytical procedures for the ETAAS determination of Cd and Pb in plant (poplar, clover, plantain) leaves are described. Optimal conditions are presented for the wet digestion of plant matrices with a mixture of nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide along with optimal temperature programmes for subsequent modifier-free electrothermal determination of Cd and Pb. Slurry preparation procedures using tetramethylammonium hydroxide or a mixture of 1 mol/L HNO3 + 1.5 mol/L H2O2 are proposed as another approach for rapid and accurate routine analysis of Cd and Pb in plant leaves. It has been found that single standard addition can be used for quantitative determination in the case of wet digestion ETAAS and standard addition to each analysed matrix is recommended in the case of slurry ETAAS. For all plant leaves investigated good agreement was achieved between the concentrations determined by wet digestion ETAAS and slurry ETAAS. The wet digestion method provides relative standard deviations for Cd ranging from 3% to 17% and for Pb from 2% to 16%. For the slurry method the RSD values are in the range of 4–31% for Cd and 4–30% for Pb, depending for both cases on the magnitude of the measured concentrations. Validity and versatility of the methods are verified by the analyses of standard reference materials. Received: 17 March 1997 / Revised: 2 May 1997 / Accepted: 8 May 1997  相似文献

A comparative study was performed of 600 W capacitively coupled microwave plasmas (CMP) with different plasma gases (Ar, N2 and air) and aerosol generation with the aid of a Légère pneumatic nebulizer. Detection limits with the different working gases are in the order of 15–4000 ng/mL for Fe, Cr, Zn, Mg and Ca in aqueous solutions. The influence of organic solutions on the stability of the plasma is discussed. The determination of Co, Cr, Fe, Mg and Ni in different oil samples by OES is described, using an air-CMP and pneumatic nebulization after dilution of the oils by 20% with cyclohexane. The detection limits for these elements are in the 100–400 ng/g range. Results obtained for a waste motor oil for the elements mentioned in the concentration range of 4–50 μg/g were found to be in good agreement with those obtained by ICP-OES after digestion of the oils at high pressure in PTFE vessels. A fast and simple procedure is presented for the simultaneous leaching of butyl (mono, di and tributyl) and phenyl organotin species from sediment samples. Leached compounds are further ethylated with sodium tetraethylborate in aqueous medium, and analyzed by gas chromatography. After testing the stability of triphenyltin under different extraction conditions, ultrasound-assisted leaching at room temperature in the presence of acetic acid was been proposed as an extraction procedure compatible with the simultaneous determination of phenyl- and butyltin compounds in sediments. Recoveries between 70 and 90% were obtained for phenyl species in spiked samples prepared in the laboratory. Results for butyltin species were validated by use of the reference material PACS-2. Quantification limits, using GC–MIP–AES as measurement technique, were approximately 5–10 ng g–1. Precision in the consecutive analysis of three sediment samples varied between 3 and 10%. Summary Concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were determined in water and sediment samples at 15 sites in Lake Balaton during three sampling campaigns in 1996. PAHs were concentrated from water samples by solid phase extraction. Sediment samples were extracted with acetone in an ultrasonic bath then cleaned by solid phase extraction. The total concentration of PAHs ranged from 30–360 ng g−1 and from 170–720 ng L−1 in sediment and water samples, respectively. Spatial and temporal variations of the concentration of PAHs were also investigated. A method has been developed to separate hydroxylated metabolites of the carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon benzo[a]pyrene, i. e. trans-4,5-, 7,8-, 9,10-dihydrodiol and 1-, 3-, 7-, and 9-phenol, by HPLC with amperometric detection employing an isocratic methanol/water eluent (70:30, v/v) containing 0.5 g/L sulfuric acid and 1 g/L lithium perchlorate. Compared with the usually applied fluorescence (λex = 265 nm, λem = 460 nm) and ultraviolet (λ = 265 nm) detection, the amperometric technique is about 2–12 times more sensitive for the determination of all metabolites investigated. The method was applied to the determination of the seven metabolites of benzo[a]pyrene in different water samples and in urine after solid-phase extraction (SPE). The results obtained by HPLC with amperometric detection after SPE enrichment from an aqueous extract of a soil sample and from the urine of a rat intragastrically treated with benzo[a]pyrene agreed well with the values determined with fluorescence and/or UV detection. We have developed a modified Carius Tube design that permits the low-blank digestion of geological samples prior to platinum-group element analysis. The new Carius Tubes incorporate a liner of high-purity quartz glass that retains the sample and acids during the digestion procedure. This dramatically reduces the comparatively high Pt blank associated with dissolutions in conventional Carius Tubes. Using the new Carius Tube design we are able to achieve total procedural blanks for the determination of the PGE in geological samples that are at the 1–15 pg/g level for Ru, Pd, Ir and Pt. This constitutes a reduction of blank values by a factor of ∼10–100 compared to standard NiS fire assay sample preparation techniques. The concentrations of90Sr,238Pu,239,240Pu and241Am were determined in 12 sediment samples, collected from the bed of the Romanian sector of the Danube river and the Black Sea coast during 1996–1997. The samples were dissolved using a microwave digestion technique which left the refractory part of the samples undissolved. Part of the samples were also dissolved totally by alkaline fusion. The results obtained after radiochemical separations and measurement of the radionuclides by the two dissolution methods were compared recommending the optimum method. The radioactive contamination of the investigated sector in 1996–1997 is compared with the results obtained for the same locations in 1994–1995 reported in previous papers.  相似文献

A method for the determination of copper in some sulfide minerals (lorandite, realgar, orpiment, marcasite, stibnite, galenite and sphalerite) by Zeeman electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry is presented. After the dissolution of samples, copper was extracted with sodium diethyldithiocarbamate into different organic solvents (carbon tetrachloride, chloroform and methylisobutyl ketone) at pH 11.0–12.0. The procedure was verified by standard addition. The standard deviation (SD) for 0.5 ng Cu is 0.01 ng, the relative standard deviation ranges from 3.5 to 5.5% and the detection limit of the method, calculated as 3 SD of the blank, was found to be 0.05 μg · g–1. The efficiency of a modern analytical method employing immuno-affinity columns (IACs) is compared to a well established traditional technique with respect to the determination of zearalenone (ZON) in corn in the μg/kg range. Despite of a constant error of about 4 μg/kg in the examined working range of 10–200 μg/kg, analytical data obtained from the analysis of spiked and naturally contaminated samples showed good correspondence for the compared methods. The performance characteristics of immuno-affinity-chromatography as a new clean-up technique for the determination of ZON in corn is reported for the first time and compared to a conventional clean-up procedure Received: 25 March 1997 / Revised: 5 May 1997 / Accepted: 12 May 1997  相似文献

This study compares four sample dissolution methods for Boron determination in two National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST) botanical Standard Reference Materials (SRMs) and three Agriculture Canada/NIST RMs, each having a reference (certified or best estimate) B concentration. The dissolution treatments consisted of: 1) dry ashing at 500° C, 2) wet digestion with HNO3 + H2O2, 3) extraction with hot HNO3 and 4) closed vessel microwave dissolution. The samples were spiked before and after imposing dissolution treatments to study B recovery by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometric (ICP-MS) analysis. Microwave digests of NIST SRM 1515 and some in-house RMs were also used to compare the B values of ICP-MS and ICP-AES (atomic emission spectrometry). While all three digestion methods (dry ashing, wet ashing and microwave) dissolved botanical samples, only the microwave method worked well for animal tissues. In terms of B values in these materials, there was no significant difference among the three digestion treatments. Near 100% recovery of B spiked before and after the sample dissolution indicates that there may not be a significant loss of B during the dissolution process used in this study. Extraction with hot HNO3 was as effective as the three digestion treatments, and B values for this method agreed well with reference values. For the botanical materials studied, the B values determined by ICP-AES were not significantly different from ICP-MS values. This study shows that a simple, time and labor efficient hot HNO3 extraction is as effective as other digestion/dissolution methods for quantitative B recovery from biological materials. Mercury (Hg) pyrolysis techniques allow the differentation of Hg-binding forms in contaminated soils and sediments. However, data about reproducibility and accuracy of the results concerning quantification of single Hg-compounds and total Hg-concentrations are rare. Therefore the total mercury concentration of different contaminated soils and sediments determined by using a pyrolysis technique were compared to those obtained after aqua regia digestion and cold vapor atomic absorption spectroscopy Hg detection. Twenty replicates of four soil and two sediment samples containing different Hg-compounds were investigated by both methods. All samples were analyzed without any pretreatment. For most of the samples total Hg-concentrations determined by pyrolysis show lower values, and up to threefold higher relative standard deviation(s) (RSD) than those obtained after wet digestion. Soil samples containing specified Hg-compounds like metallic Hg (Hg0) or cinnabar (α-HgS) show by far higher RSD by means of both methods than samples containing only matrix-bound Hg-compounds. Single peak integration indicate that the distribution of Hg0 and cinnabar is usually heterogeneous resulting in RSD of up to 85%, whereas RSD of matrix-bound Hg-compounds were always distinctly lower. Besides the higher standard deviation the pyrolysis technique has been found to be reliable for screening contaminated soils and sediments due to the important additional information about occurring Hg-binding forms. The Plackett-Burman saturated factorial design was used to select optimized dissolution conditions for sewage sludge samples. Three different digestion methods were applied: i) microwave oven digestion in a domestic oven with Parr-type reactors; ii) microwave oven digestion with controlled-pressure reactors; iii) pressure bomb reactor heated on a hot plate. The three methods were validated by statistically comparing the metal contents found with the certified ones of the sewage sludge sample (BCR 145R). No significant differences were obtained and the RSD values were lower than 3% in all cases. The metals were determined by flame-AAS. The variables studied were the following: microwave power; digestion time; predigestion; volume of hydrochloric acid; volume of hydrofluoric acid; volume of nitric acid. The operative advantages offered by microwave digestion with controlled-pressure reactors were also considered. Received: 23 July 1997 / Revised: 31 October 1997 / Accepted: 5 November 1997  相似文献
