In the first part of this paper we apply a saddle point theorem from convex analysis to show that various constrained minimization problems are equivalent to the problem of smoothing by spline functions. In particular, we show that near-interpolants are smoothing splines with weights that arise as Lagrange multipliers corresponding to the constraints in the problem of near-interpolation. In the second part of this paper we apply certain fixed point iterations to compute these weights. A similar iteration is applied to the computation of the smoothing parameter in the problem of smoothing.

We prove a local approximation theorem for the Carnot-Carathéodory quasimetrics on uniformly regular (equiregular) Carnot-Carathéodory spaces. Using this theorem, we study convergence of the Carnot-Carathéodory quasispaces to their tangent cones. In particular, we prove a Mitchell type theorem on convergence of an equiregular Carnot-Carathéodory quasispace with distinguished point to its tangent cone. 相似文献

M-cross-validation criterion is proposed for selecting a smoothing parameter in a nonparametric median regression model in which a uniform weak convergency rate for the M-cross-validated local median estimate, and the upper and lower bounds of the smoothing parameter selected by the proposed criterion are established. The main contribution of this study shows a drastic difference from those encountered in the classical L2-, L1- cross-validation technique, which leads only to the consistency in the sense of the average. Obviously, our results are novel and nontrivial from the point of view of mathematics and statistics, which provides insight and possibility for practitioners substituting maximum deviation for average deviation to evaluate the performance of the data-driven technique. 相似文献

Global and superlinear convergence of the smoothing Newton method and its application to general box constrained variational inequalities 总被引:23,自引:0,他引:23
The smoothing Newton method for solving a system of nonsmooth equations , which may arise from the nonlinear complementarity problem, the variational inequality problem or other problems, can be regarded as a variant of the smoothing method. At the th step, the nonsmooth function is approximated by a smooth function , and the derivative of at is used as the Newton iterative matrix. The merits of smoothing methods and smoothing Newton methods are global convergence and convenience in handling. In this paper, we show that the smoothing Newton method is also superlinearly convergent if is semismooth at the solution and satisfies a Jacobian consistency property. We show that most common smooth functions, such as the Gabriel-Moré function, have this property. As an application, we show that for box constrained variational inequalities if the involved function is -uniform, the iteration sequence generated by the smoothing Newton method will converge to the unique solution of the problem globally and superlinearly (quadratically).

In this article we introduce the smooth Poisson-Cauchy type singular integral operators over the real line. Here we study their simultaneous global smoothness preservation property with respect to the Lp norm, 1?p?∞, by involving higher order moduli of smoothness. Also we study their simultaneous approximation to the unit operator with rates involving the modulus of continuity with respect to the uniform norm. The produced Jackson type inequalities are almost sharp containing elegant constants, and they reflect the high order of differentiability of the engaged function. 相似文献

We continue our study on infinitesimal lifting properties of maps between locally noetherian formal schemes started in [L. Alonso Tarrío, A. Jeremías López, M. Pérez Rodríguez, Infinitesimal lifting and Jacobi criterion for smoothness on formal schemes, Comm. Alg. 35 (2007) 1341-1367]. In this paper, we focus on some properties which arise specifically in the formal context. In this vein, we make a detailed study of the relationship between the infinitesimal lifting properties of a morphism of formal schemes and those of the corresponding maps of usual schemes associated to the directed systems that define the corresponding formal schemes. Among our main results, we obtain the characterization of completion morphisms as pseudo-closed immersions that are flat. Also, the local structure of smooth and étale morphisms between locally noetherian formal schemes is described: the former factors locally as a completion morphism followed by a smooth adic morphism and the latter as a completion morphism followed by an étale adic morphism. 相似文献
