The α to γ transition that occurs in nylon 6 upon iodine treatment was investigated by infrared spectroscopy, differential thermal analysis, and x-ray diffraction techniques. Thin films of nylon (0.2 mil) were treated in either iodine–potassium iodide aqueous solution or in iodine vapor. Very short treatment times, in the order of 30 sec, were found to effect the transition when a solution 0.5M with respect to iodine was used. The infrared spectra of the iodine nylon complexes formed from either the α- or γ-nylon 6 treated in vapor or dissolved iodine were all similar. This is an indication that molecular iodine is the active species in forming the complex. The temperature of the washing solution used to remove the iodine from the nylon determines whether an α-nylon 6 or γ-nylon 6 is obtained from the complex after washing. Nylon 6 plaque surfaces and thin films are similar in their behavior towards the iodine treatment. The γ-nylon 6 is a stable modification at all temperatures below its melting point. The conversion of the γ form back to the α modification can occur only if the hydrogen bonding is severely affected, e.g., by phenol treatment, iodine treatment, melting, etc. Infrared spectroscopy provided no evidence for an α–γ transition in nylon 6 on heating the sample continuously through its melting point. The shapes of the melting peaks in the above two modifications of nylon 6 were sufficiently different to provide a means of identifying the two crystalline forms.  相似文献

In the title compounds, C21H30O4, (I), and C23H34O4, (II), respectively, which are valuable intermediates in the synthesis of important steroid derivatives, rings A and B are cis‐(5β,10β)‐fused. The two molecules have similar conformations of rings A, B and C. The presence of the 5β,6β‐epoxide group induces a significant twist of the steroid nucleus and a strong flattening of the B ring. The different C17 substituents result in different conformations for ring D. Cohesion of the molecular packing is achieved in both compounds only by weak intermolecular interactions. The geometries of the molecules in the crystalline environment are compared with those of the free molecules as given by ab initio Roothan Hartree–Fock calculations. We show in this work that quantum mechanical ab initio methods reproduce well the details of the conformation of these molecules, including a large twist of the steroid nucleus. The calculated twist values are comparable, but are larger than the observed values, indicating a possible small effect of the crystal packing on the twist angles.  相似文献

Viscosity, Infra-red, NMR spectral measurement technique, density measurement, and electrical conductivity were used to study the changes that occured during γ-radiolysis of Nylon 6. It was observed that it undergoes chain scission and crosslinking, but chain scission predominates over crosslinking in air irradiation. From melting temperature, density measurement, and the use of the Flory equation the enthalpy of fusion of Nylon 6 is 11.86 and 13.84 kJ/mol in an inert atmosphere and in air irradiation, respectively. The indirect effective band gap decreases and electrical conductivity increases when Nylon 6 is irradiated with γ-rays.  相似文献

In the title compound, C24H36O6, the ester linkage in ring A is equatorial. The six‐membered rings A, B and C have chair conformations. The five‐membered ring D adopts a 13β,14α‐half‐chair conformation and the E ring adopts an envelope conformation. The effect of gem‐dialkyl substituents on the backbone conformations of β‐amino acid residues in peptides has been investigated by using four model peptides: Boc‐Xxx‐β2,2Ac6c(1‐aminomethylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid)‐NHMe (Xxx=Leu ( 1 ), Phe ( 2 ); Boc=tert‐butyloxycarbonyl) and Boc‐Xxx‐β3,3Ac6c(1‐aminocyclohexaneacetic acid)‐NHMe (Xxx=Leu ( 3 ), Phe ( 4 )). Tetrasubstituted carbon atoms restrict the ranges of stereochemically allowed conformations about flanking single bonds. The crystal structure of Boc‐Leu‐β2,2Ac6c‐NHMe ( 1 ) established a C11 hydrogen‐bonded turn in the αβ‐hybrid sequence. The observed torsion angles (α(?≈?60°, ψ≈?30°), β(?≈?90°, θ≈60°, ψ≈?90°)) corresponded to a C11 helical turn, which was a backbone‐expanded analogue of the type III β turn in αα sequences. The crystal structure of the peptide Boc‐Phe‐β3,3Ac6c‐NHMe ( 4 ) established a C11 hydrogen‐bonded turn with distinctly different backbone torsion angles (α(?≈?60°, ψ≈120°), β(?≈60°, θ≈60°, ψ≈?60°)), which corresponded to a backbone‐expanded analogue of the type II β turn observed in αα sequences. In peptide 4 , the two molecules in the asymmetric unit adopted backbone torsion angles of opposite signs. In one of the molecules, the Phe residue adopted an unfavorable backbone conformation, with the energetic penalty being offset by a favorable aromatic interaction between proximal molecules in the crystal. NMR spectroscopy studies provided evidence for the maintenance of folded structures in solution in these αβ‐hybrid sequences.  相似文献

The crystal structure of the ζ2‐phase Al3Cu4‐δ was determined by means of X‐ray powder diffraction: a = 409.72(1) pm, b = 703.13(2) pm, c = 997.93(3) pm, space group Imm2, Pearson symbol oI24‐3.5, RI = 0.0696. ζ2‐Al3Cu4‐δ forms a distinctive a × √3a × 2c superstructure of a metal deficient Ni2In‐type‐related structure. The phase is meta‐stable at ambient temperature. Between 400 °C and 450 °C it decomposes into ζ1‐Al3Cu4 and η2‐AlCu. Entropic contributions to the stability of ζ2‐Al3Cu4‐δ are reflected in three statistically or partially occupied sites.  相似文献
