Optimal popular matchings   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper we consider the problem of computing an “optimal” popular matching. We assume that our input instance admits a popular matching and here we are asked to return not any popular matching but an optimal popular matching, where the definition of optimality is given as a part of the problem statement; for instance, optimality could be fairness in which case we are required to return a fair popular matching. We show an O(n2+m) algorithm for this problem, assuming that the preference lists are strict, where m is the number of edges in G and n is the number of applicants.  相似文献

The Pfaffian method enumerating perfect matchings of plane graphs was discovered by Kasteleyn. We use this method to enumerate perfect matchings in a type of graphs with reflective symmetry which is different from the symmetric graphs considered in [J. Combin. Theory Ser. A 77 (1997) 67, MATCH—Commun. Math. Comput. Chem. 48 (2003) 117]. Here are some of our results: (1) If G is a reflective symmetric plane graph without vertices on the symmetry axis, then the number of perfect matchings of G can be expressed by a determinant of order |G|/2, where |G| denotes the number of vertices of G. (2) If G contains no subgraph which is, after the contraction of at most one cycle of odd length, an even subdivision of K2,3, then the number of perfect matchings of G×K2 can be expressed by a determinant of order |G|. (3) Let G be a bipartite graph without cycles of length 4s, s{1,2,…}. Then the number of perfect matchings of G×K2 equals ∏(1+θ2)mθ, where the product ranges over all non-negative eigenvalues θ of G and mθ is the multiplicity of eigenvalue θ. Particularly, if T is a tree then the number of perfect matchings of T×K2 equals ∏(1+θ2)mθ, where the product ranges over all non-negative eigenvalues θ of T and mθ is the multiplicity of eigenvalue θ.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the existence of perfect matchings and Hamiltonian cycles in the preferential attachment model. In this model, vertices are added to the graph one by one, and each time a new vertex is created it establishes a connection with m random vertices selected with probabilities proportional to their current degrees. (Constant m is the only parameter of the model.) We prove that if , then asymptotically almost surely there exists a perfect matching. Moreover, we show that there exists a Hamiltonian cycle asymptotically almost surely, provided that . One difficulty in the analysis comes from the fact that vertices establish connections only with vertices that are “older” (ie, are created earlier in the process). However, the main obstacle arises from the fact that edges in the preferential attachment model are not generated independently. In view of that, we also consider a simpler setting—sometimes called uniform attachment—in which vertices are added one by one and each vertex connects to m older vertices selected uniformly at random and independently of all other choices. We first investigate the existence of perfect matchings and Hamiltonian cycles in the uniform attachment model, and then extend the argument to the preferential attachment version.  相似文献

A graph G is said to be semi-hyper-connected if the removal of every minimum cut of G creates exactly two connected components. In this paper, we characterize semi-hyper-connected vertex transitive graphs, in particular Cayley graphs.  相似文献

A proper vertex coloring of a 2-connected plane graph G is a parity vertex coloring if for each face f and each color c, the total number of vertices of color c incident with f is odd or zero. The minimum number of colors used in such a coloring of G is denoted by χp(G).In this paper we prove that χp(G)≤12 for every 2-connected outerplane graph G. We show that there is a 2-connected outerplane graph G such that χp(G)=10. If a 2-connected outerplane graph G is bipartite, then χp(G)≤8, moreover, this bound is best possible.  相似文献

Given an undirected graph with weights on its vertices, the k most vital nodes independent set (k most vital nodes vertex cover) problem consists of determining a set of k vertices whose removal results in the greatest decrease in the maximum weight of independent sets (minimum weight of vertex covers, respectively). We also consider the complementary problems, minimum node blocker independent set (minimum node blocker vertex cover) that consists of removing a subset of vertices of minimum size such that the maximum weight of independent sets (minimum weight of vertex covers, respectively) in the remaining graph is at most a specified value. We show that these problems are NP-hard on bipartite graphs but polynomial-time solvable on unweighted bipartite graphs. Furthermore, these problems are polynomial also on cographs and graphs of bounded treewidth. Results on the non-existence of ptas are presented, too.  相似文献

The nullity of a graph is the multiplicity of the eigenvalue zero in its spectrum. We obtain some lower bounds for the nullity of graphs and we then find the nullity of bipartite graphs with no cycle of length a multiple of 4 as a subgraph. Among bipartite graphs on n vertices, the star has the greatest nullity (equal to n − 2). We generalize this by showing that among bipartite graphs with n vertices, e edges and maximum degree Δ which do not have any cycle of length a multiple of 4 as a subgraph, the greatest nullity is . A distance graph is a graph G(R,D) with the set of all points of the real line as vertex set and two vertices u,vR are adjacent if and only if |u-v|∈D where the distance set D is a subset of the positive real numbers. Here, the vertex linear arboricity of G(R,D) is determined when D is an interval between 1 and δ. In particular, the vertex linear arboricity of integer distance graphs G(D) is discussed, too.  相似文献

We focus our attention on well-covered graphs that are vertex decomposable. We show that for many known families of these vertex decomposable graphs, the set of shedding vertices forms a dominating set. We then construct three new infinite families of well-covered graphs, none of which have this property. We use these results to provide a minimal counterexample to a conjecture of Villarreal regarding Cohen–Macaulay graphs.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a formalism for working with representations of vertex and conformal algebras by generalized fields—formal power series involving non-integer powers of the variable. The main application of our technique is the construction of a large family of representations for the vertex superalgebra corresponding to an integer lattice Λ. For an automorphism coming from a finite-order automorphism we find the conditions for existence of twisted modules of . We show that the category of twisted representations of is semisimple with finitely many isomorphism classes of simple objects.  相似文献

For bipartite graphs the NP-completeness is proved for the problem of existence of maximum matching which removal leads to a graph with given lower(upper) bound for the cardinality of its maximum matching.  相似文献

A proper vertex colouring of a 2-connected plane graph G is a parity vertex colouring if for each face f and each colour c, either no vertex or an odd number of vertices incident with f is coloured with c. The minimum number of colours used in such a colouring of G is denoted by χp(G).In this paper, we prove that χp(G)≤118 for every 2-connected plane graph G.  相似文献

We study fault tolerance of vertex k pancyclicity of the alternating group graph AGn. A graph G is vertex k pancyclic, if for every vertex pG, there is a cycle going through p of every length from k to |G|. Xue and Liu [Z.-J. Xue, S.-Y. Liu, An optimal result on fault-tolerant cycle-embedding in alternating group graphs, Inform. Proc. Lett. 109 (2009) 1197-1201] put the conjecture that AGn is (2n-7)-fault-tolerant vertex pancyclic, which means that if the number of faults |F|?2n-7, then AGn-F is still vertex pancyclic. Chang and Yang [J.-M. Chang, J.-S. Yang, Fault-tolerant cycle-embedding in alternating group graphs, Appl. Math. Comput. 197 (2008) 760-767] showed that for the shortest cycles the fault-tolerance of AGn is much lower. They noted that with n-2 faults one can cut all 3-cycles going through a given vertex p (it is easy to observe that the same set of faults cuts all 4- and 5-cycles going through p). On the other hand they show that AGn is n-3-fault tolerant vertex 3 pancyclic. In this paper we show that the cycles of length ?6 are much more fault-tolerant. More precisely, we show that AGn is (2n-6)-fault-tolerant vertex 6 pancyclic. This bound is optimal, because every vertex p has 2n-4 neighbors.  相似文献

Let G=(V,E,F) be a 3-connected simple graph imbedded into a surface S with vertex set V, edge set E and face set F. A face α is an 〈a1,a2,…,ak〉-face if α is a k-gon and the degrees of the vertices incident with α in the cyclic order are a1,a2,…,ak. The lexicographic minimum 〈b1,b2,…,bk〉 such that α is a 〈b1,b2,…,bk〉-face is called the type of α.Let z be an integer. We consider z-oblique graphs, i.e. such graphs that the number of faces of each type is at most z. We show an upper bound for the maximum vertex degree of any z-oblique graph imbedded into a given surface. Moreover, an upper bound for the maximum face degree is presented. We also show that there are only finitely many oblique graphs imbedded into non-orientable surfaces.  相似文献

We consider the following on-line decision problem. The vertices of a realization of the random graph G(n,p) are being observed one by one by a selector. At time m, the selector examines the mth vertex and knows the graph induced by the m vertices that have already been examined. The selector’s aim is to choose the currently examined vertex maximizing the probability that this vertex has full degree, i.e. it is connected to all other vertices in the graph. An optimal algorithm for such a choice (in other words, optimal stopping time) is given. We show that it is of a threshold type and we find the threshold and its asymptotic estimation.  相似文献

A ranking of a graph is a labeling of the vertices with positive integers such that any path between vertices of the same label contains a vertex of greater label. The rank number of a graph is the smallest possible number of labels in a ranking. We find rank numbers of the Möbius ladder, Ks×Pn, and P3×Pn. We also find bounds for rank numbers of general grid graphs Pm×Pn.  相似文献

Let G be a graph and let Pm(G) denote the number of perfect matchings of G.We denote the path with m vertices by Pm and the Cartesian product of graphs G and H by G×H. In this paper, as the continuance of our paper [W. Yan, F. Zhang, Enumeration of perfect matchings of graphs with reflective symmetry by Pfaffians, Adv. Appl. Math. 32 (2004) 175-188], we enumerate perfect matchings in a type of Cartesian products of graphs by the Pfaffian method, which was discovered by Kasteleyn. Here are some of our results:1. Let T be a tree and let Cn denote the cycle with n vertices. Then Pm(C4×T)=∏(2+α2), where the product ranges over all eigenvalues α of T. Moreover, we prove that Pm(C4×T) is always a square or double a square.2. Let T be a tree. Then Pm(P4×T)=∏(1+3α2+α4), where the product ranges over all non-negative eigenvalues α of T.3. Let T be a tree with a perfect matching. Then Pm(P3×T)=∏(2+α2), where the product ranges over all positive eigenvalues α of T. Moreover, we prove that Pm(C4×T)=[Pm(P3×T)]2.  相似文献
