The synthesis is reported of a new photochromic monomer, trans-4-(2-methacryloxyethyloxy) azobenzene (MEAB), where the azobenzene chromophore is separated from the ester group by an ethylenoxy spacer arm. Comparative experiments show that trans-4-methacryloxyazobenzene (MAB), having the azobenzene group directly attached to the ester functionality, does not homopolymerize or copolymerize with (?)-menthyl methacrylate (MnMA) in the presence of different anionic initiators, whereas isotactic homopolymers and copolymers of MEAB can be obtained: the microstructure is described with reference to analogous atactic macromolecules.  相似文献

Surface modification of enzymes for a potential use in therapy was obtained with a new type of tailor-made copolymers ofNacryloylmorpholine andN-acryloxysuccinimide. The first monomer was designed to confer solubility on the polymer, whereas the second was used to give it reactivity toward protein amino groups. The reactivity of polymers of different composition towards amino acid derivatives and model proteins, such as catalase and ribonuclease-A, is described. Water soluble and catalytically active enzyme derivatives were obained using copolymers prepared with a mixture of N-acryloxysuccinimide andn-acryloylmorpholine in a 1:99 molar ratio. At increasing molar ratio (3:97, 10:90) extensive crosslinking between polymer and enzymes takes place, yielding insoluble adducts.  相似文献

The luminescent complex [4‐(3‐hydroxypropyl)‐4′‐methyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine]‐bis(2,2′‐bipyridine)‐ruthenium(II)‐bis(hexafluoroantimonate) and its methacrylate derivative were successfully synthesized and fully characterized by two‐dimensional 1H and 13C{1H} NMR techniques [correlation spectroscopy (COSY) and heteronuclear multiple‐quantum coherence experiment (HMQC)], as well as matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry. The respective labeled methyl methacrylate‐ruthenium(polypyridyl) copolymers were obtained by free‐radical copolymerization with methyl methacrylate and were characterized utilizing NMR, IR, and UV–visible spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new thermally crosslinkable hole‐transporting polymers, X‐PTPA and X‐PCz, were synthesized via Yamamoto coupling reactions. The number‐averaged molecular weights (Mn) of X‐PTPA and X‐PCz were found to be 45,000 and 48,000, respectively, and therewith, polydispersity indices were of 1.8 and 1.7, respectively. Thermally crosslinked X‐PTPA and X‐PCz exhibit excellent solvent resistance and stable optoelectronic properties. The UV–visible maximum absorption peaks of X‐PTPA and X‐PCz in the thin film state are at 389 and 322 nm, respectively. The HOMO levels of X‐PTPA and X‐PCz are estimated to be ?5.27 and ?5.39 eV, respectively. Multilayered devices (ITO/crosslinked X‐PTPA or X‐PCz/SY‐PPV/LiF/Al) were fabricated with SY (SuperYellow) as the emitting layer. The maximum efficiency of the multilayered device with a crosslinked X‐PTPA layer is approximately three times higher than that of the device without a crosslinked X‐PTPA layer and much higher than that of the crosslinked X‐PCz device. This result can be explained by the observations that crosslinked X‐PTPA produces increased electron accumulation within the emitter, SY, and also efficient exciton formation due to improved charge balance. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Six heterometallic Zn(II) coordination polymers, Zn(H2O)3(FNA) (1), [NH4]2[Zn(H2O)2(FNA)2] (2), [ZnNa2(FNA)2]·3H2O (3), [ZnK2(FNA)2]·H2O (4), [ZnRb2(FNA)2]·2H2O (5) and [ZnMg(FNA)2]·4H2O (6) (H2FNA = 4-nitrobenzene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid), were synthesised by introducing different alkali/alkaline earth (AeI/AeII) metals. These complexes exhibit diverse structures with the different AeI/AeII metals used and distinct ligand coordination modes the ions provide. For 1 and 2, the Zn(II) centres with distorted octahedra are connected by FNA to form 1-D chain structures. The Zn(II) centres in 36 with distorted tetrahedra are linked by FNA to form 2-D anionic grid layers. For 35, these 2-D anionic grid layers are connected by alkali metal (Na, K and Rb) with the O–AeI–O connectivity to exhibit 3-D framework structures, while 6 features a 2-D Zn–Mg network. High selective molecularly imprinted polymers(MIPs) for tetracycline have been prepared by precipitation polymerization. Effects of monomer and solvent,the ratio of monomer and template and the characterization of the polymer were investigated by frontal chromatography and selectivity experiment.The results clearly indicated that the polymer,which had the highest molecular recognition abilities for tetracycline antibiotics,had been received.  相似文献

High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) has been used to complement size-exclusion (gel permeation) chromatography (SEC) for the characterization of functional polymers. Whereas SEC is unable to detect compositional changes, HPLC in an appropriate interacting medium can provide detailed information on compositional changes occurring during chemical modification of a polymer. The method has been demonstrated using a normal-phase column consisting of porous monodisperse 10 μm poly(2,3-dihydroxypropyl methacrylate-co-ethylene dimethacrylate) beads that have a homogeneous coverage of aliphatic hydroxyl groups for the analysis of brominated poly(isobutylene-co-4-methylstyrene). Intrinsic viscosities and gel permeation chromatography data were used to evaluate the Mark–Houwink constants of the soluble electronically conducting polymer, poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT):K and a are 2.28 × 10-3 cm3/g and 0.96, respectively, in tetrahydrofuran (THF) at 25°C. Mark–Houwink constants were used to calibrate gel permeation chromatography (GPC) columns for P3HT. Number-average molecular weights of P3HT determined with modified calibration curves agreed well with those determined by an absolute method, embulliometry. Molecular weights estimated using unmodified polystyrene calibration procedures were significantly larger than true values.  相似文献

This article explores the feasibility of poly(pentafluorophenyl methacrylate) (PPFMA) prepared by reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization as a platform for the preparation of diverse libraries of functional polymers via postpolymerization modification with primary amines. Experiments with a broad range of functional amines and PPFMA precursors of different molecular weights indicated that the postpolymerization modification reaction proceeds with good to excellent conversion for a diverse variety of functional amines and is essentially independent of the PPFMA precursor molecular weight. The RAFT end group, which was well preserved throughout the polymerization, is cleaved during postpolymerization modification to generate a thiol end group that provides possibilities for further orthogonal chain‐end modification reactions. The degree of postpolymerization modification can be controlled by varying the relative amount of primary amine that is used and random polymethacrylamide copolymers can be prepared via a one‐pot/two‐step sequential addition procedure. Cytotoxicity experiments revealed that the postpolymerization modification strategy does not lead to any additional toxicity compared with the corresponding polymer obtained via direct polymerization, which makes this approach also of interest for the synthesis of biologically active polymers. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two synthesis routes for the preparation of novel base‐modified polysulfones (PSUs; Udel®) were investigated: (1) the addition of the basic aromatic ketones 2,2′‐dipyridylketone and 4,4′‐bis‐(diethylamino)benzophenone and the basic aromatic aldehydes N,N‐dimethylamino‐benzaldehyde, pyridine‐2‐aldehyde, pyridine‐3‐aldehyde, and pyridine‐4‐aldehyde to lithiated PSU and (2) the reaction of lithiated PSU with basic aromatic carboxylic acid esters such as 4‐N,N‐dimethylaminobenzoic acid ethylester, pyridine‐2‐carboxylic acid ethylester, pyridine‐3‐carboxylic acid ethylester, and pyridine‐4‐carboxylic acid ethylester. Both synthesis routes lead to a high degree of conversion, without the occurrence of crosslinking. This is remarkable, especially for the reaction of lithiated PSU with the ester compounds, because the ? (C?O)? Ar groups formed by the reaction of the ester with PSU–Li are not further converted with the remaining PSU–Li sites to (crosslinked) PSU? C(? OLi)? Ar? PSU alcoholates, as normally observed when esters are reacted with Li‐organic compounds. Starting with dilithiated PSU, we obtained degrees of substitution of 0.8–2 groups per PSU repeating unit. The structures and compositions of the modified PSU polymers were confirmed with NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The modified polymers were also characterized via thermogravimetric analysis (thermal stability). Interestingly, the product of the reaction of lithiated PSU with 4,4′‐bis‐(diethylamino)benzophenone could be oxidized to a deep blue polymeric dye that showed proton self‐conductivity. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Well‐defined pyridyl disulfide (PDS) end‐functionalized polymer‐dendritic carbohydrate scaffolds are reported as novel precursors for the attachment of biomolecules. This synthetic approach combines reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization and “click” reactions. Poly(N‐(2‐hydroxypropyl) methacrylamide) (PHPMA) with 2‐mercaptothiozalidine end‐groups was prepared by RAFT polymerization yielding molecular weights of Mn = 4300 and 9900, both with a polydispersity of less than 1.2. These polymers were then attached to dendritic mannose scaffolds preconstructed via consecutive “click” reactions. Finally, the ω‐dithiobenzoate RAFT end‐group of PHPMA was modified to yield PDS functionality, by aminolysis in the presence of 2,2′‐dithiodipyridine. This PDS end‐functionalized PHPMA‐dendritic carbohydrate scaffold is a versatile precursor for bioconjugations, as the synthetic procedure can easily accommodate a range of sugar functionalities. In addition, the PDS groups can be used to react with any thiol present in a biomolecule (e.g., cysteine residue in proteins, or ? SH terminal nucleotides). In this work, a benzenedinitrile functionalized monomer, 2‐methyl‐acrylic acid 6‐(3,4‐dicyano‐phenoxy)‐hexyl ester, was successfully polymerized via the reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer method. The polymerization behavior conveyed the characteristics of “living”/controlled radical polymerization: the first‐order kinetics, linear increase of number‐average molecular weight with monomer conversion, narrow molecular weight distribution, and successful chain‐extension experiment. The soluble Zn(II) phthalocyanine (Pc)‐containing (ZnPc) polymers were achieved by post‐polymerization modification of the obtained polymers. The Zn(II) phthalocyanine‐functionalized polymer was characterized by FTIR, UV–vis, fluorescence, atomic absorption spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The potential application of above ZnPc‐functionalized polymer as electron donor material in bulk heterojunction organic solar cell was studied. The device with ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ZnPc‐Polymer/PC61BM/LiF/Al structure provided a power conversion efficiency of 0.014%, fill factor of 0.24, open circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.21 V, and short‐circuit current (Jsc) of 0.28 mA/cm2. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel hexafunctional discotic initiator, 2,3,6,7,11,12‐hexakis(2‐bromobutyryloxy)triphenylene (HBTP), was synthesized by the esterification of 2,3,6,7,11,12‐hexahydroxytriphenylene with 2‐bromobutyryl chloride. Atom transfer radical polymerizations of styrene, methyl acrylate, and n‐butyl acrylate were carried out in 50 vol % tetrahydrofuran with HBTP/copper(I) bromide/2,2′‐bipyridyl as an initiation system. The polymers produced had well‐controlled molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions (<1.2). On the basis of 1H NMR spectra of the star polymer and its hydrolyzed products, we can conclude that the initiator quantitatively initiated the polymerization of vinyl monomers and that a star polymer with a discotic core was obtained. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) composite membranes with surface properties designed by either a chemical modification with ethylenediamine (EDA), or layer‐by‐layer (LbL) polyelectrolyte adsorption were investigated in this paper. Fourier‐transformed infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and streaming potential measurements showed that the first step of the reaction with EDA in gas phase was the formation of ammonium salts with the reactive carboxylic groups present on the surface of the starting membrane. Part of the ammonium carboxylate groups was transformed in secondary amide linkages by a heat‐induced reaction. Poly(sodium styrenesulfonate) (NaPSS) and a polycation containing about 95 mol % of N,N‐dimethyl‐2‐hydroxypropyleneammonium chloride units in the backbone (PCA5) were used as opposite polyions in the LbL film construction. The adsorbed polyion amount per every layer was controlled by the nature and concentration of the supporting electrolyte in polyelectrolyte deposition solution (NaBr and KBr). An almost linear increase of the adsorbed polyion amount versus the layer pair number was observed. The swelling degree (SD) in pure alcohols of the LbL‐modified PAN composite membrane decreased with the increase of the solvent polarity and with the decrease of the pore volume by pore filling with polyelectrolyte complex multilayer. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New poly(arylene ether amide)s with trifluoromethyl pendent groups were prepared via nucleophilic nitro displacement reaction of AB‐type monomers. 4‐Nitro‐3‐trifluoromethyl‐[N‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)]benzamide ( 3 ) and 4‐nitro‐3‐trifluoro‐methyl‐[N‐(3‐hydroxyphenyl)]benzamide ( 4 ) gave polymers with weight‐average molecular weights over 42 000 g/mol and glass transition temperatures of 269°C and 213°C, respectively. Both polymers were soluble in common organic solvents including THF, and formed transparent films upon casting.  相似文献

In this study, donor‐acceptor type thiophene‐perylene‐thiophene monomers were synthesized and polymerized by both oxidative polymerization using FeCl3 as catalyst and the electrochemical process. UV–vis, FTIR, 1H NMR, and elemental analysis techniques were used for structural characterization. Thermal behaviors of these compounds were determined by using TGA system. The highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels and electrochemical and optical band gap values were calculated by using the results of cyclic voltammetry and UV–vis measurements, respectively. The number–average molecular weight (Mn), weight–average molecular weight (Mw), and polydispersity index (PDI) values of synthesized polymers were determined by size exclusion chromatography. Conductivity measurements of these polymers were carried out by electrometer by using a four‐point probe technique. Four new coordination polymers of cobalt(II) and nickel(II) with functionalized dicarboxylate ligands, namely, [CoIIL1(2,2′-bpy)(H2O)] (1), [NiIIL1(2,2′-bpy)(H2O)]·H2O (2), [CoII2(L2)2(2,2′-bpy)2(H2O)] (3) and [NiII2(L2)2(2,2′-bpy)2(H2O)] (4), where H2L1 = 2,5-dibenzoylterephthalic acid, H2L2 = 4,6-bis(4-methylbenzoyl)isophthalic acid and 2,2′-bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine, were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra and thermogravimetric analysis. Complex 1 exhibits a zigzag chain with a C–Hπ interaction between the phenyl ring proton and the phenyl ring of an adjacent chains to form a 2D supramolecular sheet. Complex 2 contains two helical chains which extend into 2D via a C–Hπ interaction between the pyridine ring proton and the pyridine ring. Complexes 3 and 4 are isomorphous with helical chains that extend in the same direction and further link to one another by supramolecular forces into a 2D structure. Moreover, magnetic and luminescence properties have been investigated for 1 and 2, respectively.  相似文献
