An inverse mapping theorem for H-differentiable set-valued maps

Taking advantage of recent developments in the theory of generalized differentiation, we present an inverse mapping theorem for set-valued maps and prove its stability under small linear perturbations. Using variational convergences of set-valued mappings, we present as well an approximate version of our inverse theorem.     

Generalized semi-inner products with applications to regularized learning

We propose a definition of generalized semi-inner products (g.s.i.p.). By relating them to duality mappings from a normed vector space to its dual space, a characterization for all g.s.i.p. satisfying this definition is obtained. We then study the Riesz representation of continuous linear functionals via g.s.i.p. As applications, we establish a representer theorem and characterization equation for the minimizer of a regularized learning from finite or infinite samples in Banach spaces of functions.     

Minimax theorems for scalar set-valued mappings with nonconvex domains and applications

In this paper, by virtue of the separation theorem of convex sets, we prove a minimax theorem, a cone saddle point theorem and a Ky Fan minimax theorem for a scalar set-valued mapping under nonconvex assumptions of its domains, respectively. As applications, we obtain an existence result for the generalized vector equilibrium problem with a set-valued mapping. Simultaneously, we also obtain some generalized Ky Fan minimax theorems for set-valued mappings, in which the minimization and the maximization of set-valued mappings are taken in the sense of vector optimization.     

On the existence of generalized solutions and the convergence of difference methods for nonlinear initial-value problems

In the present paper we prove new results for a general perturbation theory for nonlinear mappings between metric spaces. Using these results we are able to establish new principles for the treatment of nonlinear initial-value problems by difference methods. The main results are the characterization of the existence of discrete limits of sequences of mappings and the characterization of the existence of generalized solutions of nonlinear initial-value problems which are limits of solutions of difference equations. As conclusions one obtains generalizations of Lax's equivalence theorem for nonlinear and linear initial-value problems and a convergence theorem for a concrete hyperbolic equation.     

Common fixed point theorem for noncommuting mappings satisfying a generalized asymptotically nonexpansive condition

We present a common fixed point theorem for generalized asymptotically nonexpansive and noncommuting mappings in normed linear spaces.

Fuzzy mappings and fixed point theorems

We extend Heilpern's fixed point theorem for fuzzy contraction mappings to a pair of generalized fuzzy contraction mappings. Also we prove a fixed point theorem for nonexpansive fuzzy mappings on a compact star-shaped subset of a Banach space.     

Weighted best local approximation in Orlicz space

We present a common fixed point theorem for generalized asymptotically nonexpansive and noncommuting mappings in normed linear spaces.      

Fixed point theorems for generalized weakly contractive mappings

We prove a fixed point theorem for a generalized weakly contractive mapping and a fixed point theorem for a pair of weakly contractive mappings. We also show that these mappings satisfy properties P and Q.     

Automatic continuity of generalized local linear operators

In this note, we present a general automatic continuity theory for linear mappings between certain topological vector spaces. The theory applies, in particular, to local operators between spaces of functions and distributions, to algebraic homomorphisms between certain topological algebras, and to linear mappings intertwining generalized scalar operators.     

On a conjecture of S. Reich

Simeon Reich (1974) proved that the fixed point theorem for single-valued mappings proved by Boyd and Wong can be generalized to multivalued mappings which map points into compact sets. He then asked (1983) whether his theorem can be extended to multivalued mappings whose range consists of bounded closed sets. In this note, we provide an affirmative answer for a certain subclass of Boyd-Wong contractive mappings.

Best proximity points: global minimization of multivalued non-self mappings

In this article, we give a best proximity point theorem for generalized contractions in metric spaces with appropriate geometric property. We also, give an example which ensures that our result cannot be obtained from a similar result due to Amini-Harandi (Best proximity points for proximal generalized contractions in metric spaces. Optim Lett, 2012). Moreover, we prove a best proximity point theorem for multivalued non-self mappings which generalizes the Mizoguchi and Takahashi’s fixed point theorem for multivalued mappings.     

Minimax Problems for Set-Valued Mappings

In this article, by virtue of the Fan-Browder fixed point theorem, we first obtain a minimax theorem and establish an equivalent relationship between the minimax theorem and a cone saddle point theorem for scalar set-valued mappings. Then, by using scalarization functions, we investigate an existence theorem of the cone saddle point for set-valued mappings. Simultaneously, we also establish a minimax theorem for set-valued mappings.     

Analysis and optimization of Lipschitz continuous mappings

In this paper, four fundamental theorems for continuously differentiable mappings (the multiplier rule for equality constraints of Carathéodory, the inverse mapping theorem, the implicit mapping theorem, and the general multiplier rule for inequality and equality constraints of Mangasarian and Fromovitz) are shown to have natural extensions valid when the mappings are only Lipschitz continuous. Involved in these extensions is a compact, convex set of linear mappings called the generalized derivative, which can be assigned to any Lipschitz continuous mapping and point of its (open) domain and which reduces to the usual derivative whenever the mapping is continuously differentiable. After a brief calculus for this generalized derivative is presented in Part I, the connection between the ranks of the linear mappings in the generalized derivative and theinteriority of the given mapping is explored in Parts II and IV; this relationship is used in Parts III and IV to prove the extensions of the theorems mentioned above.This paper is lovingly dedicated to the author's wife, Nancy Arneson Pourciau.Each section of this paper has benefited from the consistently accurate advice and unflagging enthusiasm of the author's teacher, Professor Hubert Halkin.     

Gap Functions and Existence of Solutions to Set-Valued Vector Variational Inequalities

The variational inequality problem with set-valued mappings is very useful in economics and nonsmooth optimization. In this paper, we study the existence of solutions and the formulation of solution methods for vector variational inequalities (VVI) with set-valued mappings. We introduce gap functions and establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a solution of the VVI. It is shown that the optimization problem formulated by using gap functions can be transformed into a semi-infinite programming problem. We investigate also the existence of a solution for the generalized VVI with a set-valued mapping by virtue of the existence of a solution of the VVI with a single-valued function and a continuous selection theorem.     

On the Bartle-Graves theorem

The Bartle-Graves theorem extends the Banach open mapping principle to a family of linear and bounded mappings, thus showing that surjectivity of each member of the family is equivalent to the openness of the whole family. In this paper we place this theorem in the perspective of recent concepts and results, and present a general Bartle-Graves theorem for set-valued mappings. As applications, we obtain versions of this theorem for mappings defined by systems of inequalities, and for monotone variational inequalities.

Convergence theorems for a finite family of generalized nonexpansive multivalued mappings in CAT(0) spaces

We establish △-convergence and strong convergence theorems for an iterative process for a finite family of generalized nonexpansive multivalued mappings in a CAT(0) space. Moreover, we present a fixed point theorem for a pair consisting of a finite family of generalized nonexpansive single valued mappings, and a generalized nonexpansive multivalued mapping in CAT(0) spaces.
