We introduce the notion of tight homomorphism into a locally compact group with nonvanishing bounded cohomology and study these homomorphisms in detail when the target is a Lie group of Hermitian type. Tight homomorphisms between Lie groups of Hermitian type give rise to tight totally geodesic maps of Hermitian symmetric spaces. We show that tight maps behave in a functorial way with respect to the Shilov boundary and use this to prove a general structure theorem for tight homomorphisms. Furthermore, we classify all tight embeddings of the Poincaré disk.  相似文献

Lie groups with two different root lengths allow two ‘mixed sign’ homomorphisms on their corresponding Weyl groups, which in turn give rise to two families of hybrid Weyl group orbit functions and characters. In this paper we extend the ideas leading to the Gaussian cubature formulas for families of polynomials arising from the characters of irreducible representations of any simple Lie group, to new cubature formulas based on the corresponding hybrid characters. These formulas are new forms of Gaussian cubature in the short root length case and new forms of Radau cubature in the long root case. The nodes for the cubature arise quite naturally from the (computationally efficient) elements of finite order of the Lie group.  相似文献

The way the additive semigroup [0, ∞) carrying the usual topology can act as a semigroup of homomorphisms on a compact group is studied in this paper. It is shown that such actions of [0, ∞) on a compact group G can be completely described in terms of continuous homomorphisms from [0, ∞) into G. Furthermore, it is proven that each such action of [0, ∞) on a compact group G has a unique extension to an action of the additive group of all real numbers endowed with the usual topology on G so that a similar characterization is also valid for actions of the real numbers on a compact group.  相似文献

In this article we study the behavior of harmonic maps from compact connected Lie groups with bi-invariant metrics into a Hilbert orthogonal group. In particular, we will demonstrate that any such harmonic map always has image contained within someO(n),n<∞. Since homomorphisms are a special subset of the harmonic maps we get as a corollary an extension of the Peter-Weyl theorem, namely, that every representation of a connected compact Lie group is finite dimensional. We focus on two topics that are related to moduli of elements in partially ordered vector spaces. First, we relate operators that preserve moduli to generalized notions of lattice homomorphisms, such as Riesz homomorphisms, Riesz* homomorphisms, and positive disjointness preserving operators. We also consider complete Riesz homomorphisms, which generalize order continuous lattice homomorphisms. Second, we characterize elements with a modulus by means of disjoint elements and apply this result to obtain moduli of functionals and operators in various settings. On spaces of continuous functions, we identify those differences of Riesz* homomorphisms that have a modulus. Many of our results for pre-Riesz spaces of continuous functions lead to results on order unit spaces, where the functional representation is used.

We show that two module homomorphisms for groups and Lie algebras established by Xi can be generalized to the setting of quasi-triangular Hopf algebras. These module homomorphisms played a key role in his proof of a conjecture of Yau (1998). They will also be useful in the problem of decomposition of tensor products of modules. We prove a generalized implicit function theorem for Banach spaces, without the usual assumption that the subspaces involved being complemented. Let Σ be a compact connected oriented surface with one boundary component. We extend each of Johnson’s and Morita’s homomorphisms to the Ptolemy groupoid of Σ. Our extensions are canonical and take values into finitely generated free abelian groups. The constructions are based on the 3-dimensional interpretation of the Ptolemy groupoid, and a chain map introduced by Suslin and Wodzicki to relate the homology of a nilpotent group to the homology of its Malcev Lie algebra.  相似文献

This paper starts with some examples and quick results on the topological entropy of continuous functions. It discusses the topological entropy on Lie groups and proves their shift properties. It proves Fried's conjecture h(φγ) <- h(φ)+h(γ) for affine maps on Lie groups. Moreover, φ and γ do not have to commute. As a corollary, it proves that entropy is invariant with isometric endomorphisms of Lie groups. Also, it discusses algebraic entropy on elementary Abelian groups and Lie groups. It proves that the topological entropy is preserved when projected from Lie group lib to its quotient space compact Lie group S1 for continuous functions lifted from the quotient space and shows that algebraic entropy in general is strictly less than topological entropy.  相似文献

We introduce the notions of causal paths and causal homotopies, modifications of the traditional notions of paths and homotopies, as more suitable for certain basic constructions in (Lie) semigroup theory. The major result is the construction in this causal context of an analogue of the universal covering semigroup and the demonstration that local homomorphisms on the given semigroup extend to global homomorphisms on it.
