Transient species formed by photoexcitation (400 nm) of [Ru(dppz)(tap)2]2+ (1) (dppz = dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine; tap=1,4,5,8-tetraazaphenanthrene) in aqueous solution and when intercalated into a double-stranded synthetic polynucleotide, [poly(dG-dC)]2, have been observed on a picosecond timescale by both visible transient absorption (allowing monitoring of the metal complex intermediates) and transient infrared (IR) absorption spectroscopy (allowing direct study of the DNA nucleobases). By contrast with its behavior when free in aqueous solution, excitation of 1 when bound to [poly(dG-dC)]2 causes a strong increase in absorbance at 515 nm due to formation of the reduced complex [Ru(dppz)(tap)2]+ (rate constant=(2.0+/-0.2) x 10(9) s(-1)). The subsequent reformation of 1 proceeds with a rate constant of (1.1+/-0.2) x 10(8) s(-1). When the process is carried out in D2O, the rates of formation and removal of [Ru(dppz)(tap)2]+ are reduced (rate constants (1.5+/-0.3) x 10(9) and (0.7+/-0.2) x 10(8) s(-1) respectively) consistent with proton-coupled electron transfer processes. Picosecond transient IR measurements in the 1540-1720 cm(-1) region in D2O solution confirm that the reduction of 1 intercalated into [poly(dG-dC)]2 is accompanied by bleaching of IR ground-state bands of guanine (1690 cm(-1)) and cytosine (1656 cm(-1)), each with similar rate constants.  相似文献

Proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) kinetics of a Zn(II) porphyrin donor noncovalently bound to a naphthalene-diimide acceptor through an amidinium-carboxylate interface have been investigated by time-resolved spectroscopy. The S1 singlet excited-state of a Zn(II) 2-amidinium-5,10,15,20-tetramesitylporphyrin chloride (ZnP-beta-AmH+) donor is sufficiently energetic (2.04 eV) to reduce a carboxylate-diimide acceptor (DeltaG degrees = -460 mV, THF). Static quenching of the porphyrin fluorescence is observed and time-resolved measurements reveal more than a 3-fold reduction in the S1 lifetime of the porphyrin upon amidinium-carboxylate formation (THF, 298 K). Picosecond transient absorption spectra of the free ZnP-beta-AmH+ in THF reveal the existence of an excited-state isosbestic point between the S1 and T1 states at lambdaprobe = 650 nm, providing an effective 'zero-kinetics' background on which to observe the formation of PCET photoproducts. Distinct rise and decay kinetics are attributed to the build-up and subsequent loss of intermediates resulting from a forward and reverse PCET reaction, respectively (kPCET(fwd) = 9 x 108 s-1 and kPCET(rev) = 14 x 108 s-1). The forward rate constant is nearly 2 orders of magnitude slower than that measured for covalently linked Zn(II) porphyrin-acceptor dyads of comparable driving force and D-A distance, establishing the importance of a proximal proton network in controlling charge transport.  相似文献

The excited-state photophysics of formylperylene (FPe) have been investigated in a series of nonpolar, polar aprotic, and polar protic solvents. A variety of experimental and theoretical methods were employed including femtosecond transient absorption (fs-TA) spectroscopy with 130 fs temporal resolution. We report that the ultrafast intramolecular charge transfer from the perylene unit to the formyl (CHO) group can be facilitated drastically by hydrogen-bonding interactions between the carbonyl group oxygen of FPe and hydrogen-donating solvents in the electronically excited state. The excited-state absorption of FPe in methanol (MeOH) is close to the reported perylene radical cation produced by bimolecular quenching by an electron acceptor. This is a strong indication for a substantial charge transfer in the S(1) state in protic solvents. The larger increase of the dipole moment change in the protic solvents than that in aprotic ones strongly supports this observation. Relaxation mechanisms including vibrational cooling and solvation coupled to the charge-transfer state are also discussed.  相似文献

The interaction of exciton and charge transfer (CT) states plays a central role in photo-induced CT processes in chemistry, biology, and physics. In this work, we use a combination of two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy (2D-ES), pump-probe measurements, and quantum chemistry to investigate the ultrafast CT dynamics in a lutetium bisphthalocyanine dimer in different oxidation states. It is found that in the anionic form, the combination of strong CT-exciton interaction and electronic asymmetry induced by a counter-ion enables CT between the two macrocycles of the complex on a 30 fs timescale. Following optical excitation, a chain of electron and hole transfer steps gives rise to characteristic cross-peak dynamics in the electronic 2D spectra, and we monitor how the excited state charge density ultimately localizes on the macrocycle closest to the counter-ion within 100 fs. A comparison with the dynamics in the radical species further elucidates how CT states modulate the electronic structure and tune fs-reaction dynamics. Our experiments demonstrate the unique capability of 2D-ES in combination with other methods to decipher ultrafast CT dynamics.  相似文献

Iron(III)tetraphenylporphyrin chloride, excited at 353 nm, showed significant bleaching and new absorption at 445 and 55 550 nm, which relaxed in 50 ps. Ground-state recovery occurs in ?100 fs; the bottleneck is populated with 3% efficiency. The photoproduct spectrum resembles a porphyrin ππ* triplet, and provides evidence for intersystem crossing in an iron heme.  相似文献

The process of a local excitation evolving into an intramolecular charge-separated state is followed and compared for several systems by directly simulating the time propagation of the electronic wavefunction. The wavefunction and Hamiltonian are handled using the extended second-order algebraic diagrammatic construction (ADC(2)-x), which explicitly accounts for electron correlation in the dynamic many-particle state. The details of the charge separation can be manipulated according to the chemical composition of the system; atoms which dope the conjugated system with either particles or holes are shown to effect whether the particle or hole is more mobile. Initially, the charges oscillate between the ends of linear molecules (with different rates), separating periodically, but, at long times, both charges tend to spread over the whole molecule. Charge separation is also shown to occur for asymmetric systems, where it may eventually be experimentally feasible to excite a localized resonance (nonstationary state) on one end of the molecule preferentially and follow the ensuing dynamics.  相似文献

A new type of push–pull charge transfer complex, viz., a spiro-locked N-heterocycle-fused zinc porphyrin, ZnP-SQ, is shown to undergo excited state charge separation, which is enhanced by axial F binding to the Zn center. In this push–pull design, the spiro-quinone group acts as a ‘lock’ promoting charge transfer interactions by constraining mutual coplanarity of the meso-phenol-substituted electron-rich Zn(ii) porphyrin and an electron deficient N-heterocycle, as revealed by electrochemical and computational studies. Spectroelectrochemical studies have been used to identify the spectra of charge separated states, and charge separation upon photoexcitation of ZnP has been unequivocally established by using transient absorption spectroscopic techniques covering wide spatial and temporal regions. Further, global target analysis of the transient data using GloTarAn software is used to obtain the lifetimes of different photochemical events and reveal that fluoride anion complexation stabilizes the charge separated state to an appreciable extent.

Colloidal semiconductor-metal nanoheterostructures that combine the light-harvesting ability of semiconductor nanocrystals with the catalytic activity of small metal nanoparticles show promising applications for photocatalysis, including light-driven H(2) production. The exciton in the semiconductor domain can be quenched by electron-, hole-, and energy transfer to the metal particle, and the competition between these processes determines the photocatalytic efficiency of these materials. Using ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy, we show that, in CdS-Pt heterostructures consisting of a CdS nanorod with a Pt nanoparticle at one end, the excitons in the CdS domain dissociate by ultrafast electron transfer (with a half-life of ~3.4 ps) to the Pt. The charge separated state is surprisingly long-lived (with a half-life of ~1.2 ± 0.6 μs) due to the trapping of holes in CdS. The asymmetry in the charge separation and recombination times is believed to be the key feature that enables the accumulation of the transferred electrons in the Pt tip and photocatalysis in the presence of sacrificial hole acceptors.  相似文献

We investigate with femtosecond mid-infrared spectroscopy the vibrational-mode characteristics of the electronic states involved in the excited-state dynamics of pyranine (HPTS) that ultimately lead to efficient proton (deuteron) transfer in H2O (D2O). We also study the methoxy derivative of pyranine (MPTS), which is similar in electronic structure but does not have the photoacidity property. We compare the observed vibrational band patterns of MPTS and HPTS after electronic excitation in the solvents: deuterated dimethylsulfoxide, deuterated methanol and H2O/D2O, from which we conclude that for MPTS and HPTS photoacids the first excited singlet state appears to have charge-transfer (CT) properties in water within our time resolution (150 fs), whereas in aprotic dimethylsulfoxide the photoacid appears to be in a non-polar electronic excited state, and in methanol (less polar and less acidic than water) the behaviour is intermediate between these two extremes. For the fingerprint vibrations we do not observe dynamics on a time scale of a few picoseconds, and with our results obtained on the O-H stretching vibration we argue that the dynamic behaviour observed in previous UV/Vis pump-probe studies is likely to be related to solvation dynamics.  相似文献

A meso,meso-linked porphyrin dimer [(ZnP)(2)] as a light-harvesting chromophore has been incorporated into a photosynthetic multistep electron-transfer model for the first time, including ferrocene (Fc), as an electron donor and fullerene (C(60)) as an electron acceptor to construct the ferrocene-meso,meso-linked porphyrin dimer-fullerene system (Fc-(ZnP)(2)-C(60)). Photoirradiation of Fc-(ZnP)(2)-C(60) results in photoinduced electron transfer from the singlet excited state of the porphyrin dimer [(1)(ZnP)(2)] to the C(60) moiety to produce the porphyrin dimer radical cation-C(60) radical anion pair, Fc-(ZnP)(2)(*+)-C(60)(*-). In competition with the back electron transfer from C(60)(*-) to (ZnP)(2)(*+) to the ground state, an electron transfer from Fc to (ZnP)(2)(*+) occurs to give the final charge-separated (CS) state, that is, Fc(+)-(ZnP)(2)-C(60)(*-), which is detected as the transient absorption spectra by the laser flash photolysis. The quantum yield of formation of the final CS state is determined as 0.80 in benzonitrile. The final CS state decays obeying first-order kinetics with a lifetime of 19 micros in benzonitrile at 295 K. The activation energy for the charge recombination (CR) process is determined as 0.15 eV in benzonitrile, which is much larger than the value expected from the direct CR process to the ground state. This value is rather comparable to the energy difference between the initial CS state (Fc-(ZnP)(2)(*+)-C(60)(*-)) and the final CS state (Fc(+)-(ZnP)(2)-C(60)(*-)). This indicates that the back electron transfer to the ground state occurs via the reversed stepwise processes, that is, a rate-limiting electron transfer from (ZnP)(2) to Fc(+) to give the initial CS state (Fc-(ZnP)(2)(*+)-C(60)(*-)), followed by a fast electron transfer from C(60)(*-) to (ZnP)(2)(*+) to regenerate the ground state, Fc-(ZnP)(2)-C(60). This is in sharp contrast with the extremely slow direct CR process of bacteriochlorophyll dimer radical cation-quinone radical anion pair in bacterial reaction centers.  相似文献

We report the spin state photo-switching dynamics in two polymorphs of a spin-crossover molecular complex triggered by a femtosecond laser flash, as determined by combining femtosecond optical pump-probe spectroscopy and picosecond X-ray diffraction techniques. The light-driven transformations in the two polymorphs are compared. Combining both techniques and tracking how the X-ray data correlate with optical signals allow understanding of how electronic and structural degrees of freedom couple and play their role when the switchable molecules interact in the active crystalline medium. The study sheds light on crossing the border between femtochemistry at the molecular scale and femtoswitching at the material scale.  相似文献

We present a study of photoinduced interfacial electron transfer (ET) dynamics of SnO2 nanocrystalline thin films sensitized by polythiophene derivatives (regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and regiorandom poly(3-undecyl-2,2'-bithiophene) (P3UBT)). ET dynamics were measured by following the dynamics of injected electrons in SnO2 and polarons in the conjugated polymer using ultrafast mid-IR transient absorption spectroscopy. The rate of electron transfer from P3HT and P3UBT to SnO2 films was determined to occur on sub-picosecond time scale (120 +/- 20 fs). In P3HT/SnO2 composite, interchain charge transfer was found to compete with and reduce the quantum efficiency of interfacial electron transfer at high polymer loading. This interchain charge separation processes can be reduced in non-regioregular polymer or at low polymer loading levels.  相似文献

Vibrational cooling rate of the first excited singlet (S(1)) state of trans-stilbene and bulk thermal diffusivity are measured for seven room temperature ionic liquids, C(2)mimTf(2)N, C(4)mimTf(2)N, C(4)mimPF(6), C(5)mimTf(2)N, C(6)mimTf(2)N, C(8)mimTf(2)N, and bmpyTf(2)N. Vibrational cooling rate measured with picosecond time-resolved Raman spectroscopy reflects solute-solvent and solvent-solvent energy transfer in a microscopic solvent environment. Thermal diffusivity measured with the transient grating method indicates macroscopic heat conduction capability. Vibrational cooling rate of S(1) trans-stilbene is known to have a good correlation with bulk thermal diffusivity in ordinary molecular liquids. In the seven ionic liquids studied, however, vibrational cooling rate shows no correlation with thermal diffusivity; the observed rates are similar (0.082 to 0.12 ps(-1) in the seven ionic liquids and 0.08 to 0.14 ps(-1) in molecular liquids) despite large differences in thermal diffusivity (5.4-7.5 × 10(-8) m(2) s(-1) in ionic liquids and 8.0-10 × 10(-8) m(2) s(-1) in molecular liquids). This finding is consistent with our working hypothesis that there are local structures characteristically formed in ionic liquids. Vibrational cooling rate is determined by energy transfer among solvent ions in a local structure, while macroscopic thermal diffusion is controlled by heat transfer over boundaries of local structures. By using "local" thermal diffusivity, we are able to simulate the vibrational cooling kinetics observed in ionic liquids with a model assuming thermal diffusion in continuous media. The lower limit of the size of local structure is estimated with vibrational cooling process observed with and without the excess energy. A quantitative discussion with a numerical simulation shows that the diameter of local structure is larger than 10 nm. If we combine this lower limit, 10 nm, with the upper limit, 100 nm, which is estimated from the transparency (no light scattering) of ionic liquids, an order of magnitude estimate of local structure is obtained as 10 nm < L < 100 nm, where L is the length or the diameter of the domain of local structure.  相似文献

We report here a real-time study of interactions induced phase separation between β-lactoglobulin (BLG) and Acacia gum (AG) by analyzing the localized surface plasmon resonance of silver nanoparticles. We showed that the binding of BLG to AG is accompanied by refractive index changes, in relation with optical properties and structural changes of the complexes formed.  相似文献

Electron-transfer reactions are fundamental to many practical devices, but because of their complexity, it is often very difficult to interpret measurements done on the complete device. Therefore, studies of model systems are crucial. Here the rates of charge separation and recombination in donor-acceptor systems consisting of a series of butadiyne-linked porphyrin oligomers (n = 1-4, 6) appended to C(60) were investigated. At room temperature, excitation of the porphyrin oligomer led to fast (5-25 ps) electron transfer to C(60) followed by slower (200-650 ps) recombination. The temperature dependence of the charge-separation reaction revealed a complex process for the longer oligomers, in which a combination of (i) direct charge separation and (ii) migration of excitation energy along the oligomer followed by charge separation explained the observed fluorescence decay kinetics. The energy migration is controlled by the temperature-dependent conformational dynamics of the longer oligomers and thereby limits the quantum yield for charge separation. Charge recombination was also studied as a function of temperature through measurements of femtosecond transient absorption. The temperature dependence of the electron-transfer reactions could be successfully modeled using the Marcus equation through optimization of the electronic coupling (V) and the reorganization energy (λ). For the charge-separation rate, all of the donor-acceptor systems could be successfully described by a common electronic coupling, supporting a model in which energy migration is followed by charge separation. In this respect, the C(60)-appended porphyrin oligomers are suitable model systems for practical charge-separation devices such as bulk-heterojunction solar cells, where conformational disorder strongly influences the electron-transfer reactions and performance of the device.  相似文献

Intrapolymer electron transfer from the higher excited to the neighbouring ground states of pyrenyl chromophores occurs rapidly in polyesters. This charge separation process is characteristic of polymers and was not observed in the studies on bichromophoric model compounds. Relative geometrical structures of the relevant chromophores are discussed by comparing the results with those of polypeptides having the same chromophore.  相似文献

Physical and chemical properties of liquid water are dominated by hydrogen bond structure and dynamics. Recent studies on nonlinear vibrational spectroscopy of intramolecular motion provided new insight into ultrafast hydrogen bond dynamics. However, our understanding of intermolecular dynamics of water is still limited. We theoretically investigated the intermolecular dynamics of liquid water in terms of two-dimensional infrared (2D IR) spectroscopy. The 2D IR spectrum of intermolecular frequency region (<1000 cm(-1)) is calculated by using the equilibrium and nonequilibrium hybrid molecular dynamics method. We find the ultrafast loss of the correlation of the libration motion with the time scale of approximately 110 fs. It is also found that the energy relaxation from the libration motion to the low frequency motion takes place with the time scale of about 180 fs. We analyze the effect of the hindered translation motion on these ultrafast dynamics. It is shown that both the frequency modulation of libration motion and the energy relaxation from the libration to the low frequency motion significantly slow down in the absence of the hindered translation motion. The present result reveals that the anharmonic coupling between the hindered translation and libration motions is essential for the ultrafast relaxation dynamics in liquid water.  相似文献

Picosecond time-resolved surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (SEIRAS) has been used for the first time to examine the potential jump at the electrochemical interface induced by a visible pulse irradiation. The potential dependent shift of the C-O stretching vibration of CO adsorbed on a Pt electrode was utilized to monitor the potential jump. A 6-cm(-1) red-shift was observed with a time delay of approximately 200 ps with respect to a visible pump-pulse irradiation (532 nm, 35 ps duration, 3 mJ cm(-2)). The observed red-shift is ascribed to the heating of the in-plane frustrated translational mode of CO and the negative shift of potential. These two contributions can be separated with the aid of the transient of the background reflectivity of the electrode surface. The heating of water layers near the surface is mainly responsible for the potential jump through the orientation change of water molecules. This method is promising as a tool to examine ultrafast electrode dynamics.  相似文献

Condensation of 3,4,5-tris(n-dodecyloxy)aniline with the green chromophore 1,7-bis(N-pyrrolidinyl)perylene-3,4;9,10-tetracarboxylic dianhydride yields N,N'-bis(3,4,5-tris(n-dodecyloxy)phenyl)-1,7-bis(N-pyrrolidinyl)perylene-3,4;9,10-bis(dicarboximide), 5PDI-TAP, which absorbs light strongly from 550 to 750 nm. 5PDI-TAP dissolves readily in methylcyclohexane (MCH), resulting in self-assembly into H-aggregates. Small-angle X-ray scattering data obtained on 10(-4) M solutions of 5PDI-TAP in MCH show that the aggregates are pi-stacked monodisperse pentamers. Femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy on solutions of (5PDI-TAP)5 in MCH shows evidence of charge separation occurring with tau < or = 150 fs between adjacent stacked members of 5PDI-TAP within the pentamer followed by charge recombination with tau = 860 ps. Transmission electron microscopy of 5PDI-TAP films cast from solution show isolated bundles of columnar aggregates. (5PDI-TAP)n is a potentially useful material for organic photovoltaics because efficient photoinduced charge generation is an intrinsic property of the assembly.  相似文献
