We study the nonlinear eigenvalue problem F(x,) = L()x +R(x,) = 0 where F : X × R X with X a Hilbert space. IfL() is a polynomial in , then it is shown that 0> 0 is a global bifurcation point of the eigenvalue problem provided astandard transversality condition is satisfied, the dimension of the nullspace of L(0) is an odd number and L() is composed of asequence of positive operators on the finite dimensional null space ofL(0).  相似文献

Let T- S, be a family of not necessarily bounded semi-Fredholm operators, where T and S are operators acting between Banach spaces X and Y, and where S is bounded with D(S) D(T). For compact sets , as well as for certain open sets , we investigate existence and minimal rank of bounded feedback perturbations of the form F=BE such that min.ind (T-S+F)=0 for all . Here B is a given operator from a linear space Z to Y and E is some operator from X to Z.We give a simple characterization of that situation, when such regularizing feedback perturbations exist and show that for compact sets the minimal rank never exceeds max { min.ind (T-S) }+1. Moreover, an example shows that the minimal rank, in fact, may increase from max {...} to max {...}+1, if the given B enforces a certain structure of the feedbachk perturbation F.However, the minimal rank is equal to max { min.ind (T-S) }, if is an open set such that min.ind (T-S) already vanishes for all but finitely many points . We illustrate this result by applying it to the stabilization of certain infinite-dimensional dynamical systems in Hilbert space.  相似文献

We develop a method for extending results about ultrafilters into a more general setting. In this paper we shall be mainly concerned with applications to cardinality logics. For example, assumingV=L, Gödel's Axiom of Constructibility, we prove that if > then the logic with the quantifier there exist many is (,)-compact if and only if either is weakly compact or is singular of cofinality<. As a corollary, for every infinite cardinals and , there exists a (,)-compact non-(,)-compact logic if and only if either < orcf<cf or < is weakly compact.Counterexamples are given showing that the above statements may fail, ifV=L is not assumed.However, without special assumptions, analogous results are obtained for the stronger notion of [,]-compactness.  相似文献

Under minimal requirements on the coefficients and the boundary of the domain it is proved that the spectrum of the first boundary-value problem for an elliptic operator of second order always lies in the half-plane Re , where is the leading eigenvalue to which there corresponds a nonnegative eigenfunction. Summary We study the equation (A – ) x + (B–)x=y, with unknown x, in a Banach space X. y Xis the datum, > 0, A and B are linear closed unbounded operators in X with domains DA, DB. In the non commutative case, under assumptions already considered in the literature (see [7]), we show that for large values of any solution x DA DB satisfies an a priori estimate ¦|x¦|c–1¦|y||and we prove that for any y X there exists a unique strong solution x, i.e. there exist xnDA DB such that xn x, (A–) xn+(B–) xny in X. We also study regularity properties of strong solutions and we show that they belong to suitable interpolation spaces between DA (or DB) and X.  相似文献

This article reveals the topological impact of fully--bases in locally convex spaces where carries either the traditional normal topology or the fairly generalized-topology of Ruckle. It has been established that the generalized nuclearity of plays a significant role in influencing the topology of the space. A proof of the following conjecture of Jungnickel and Tonchev on quasi-multiple quasi-symmetric designs is given: Let D be a design whose parameter set (v,b,r,k,) equals (v,sv,sk,k, s) for some positive integer s and for some integers v,k, that satisfy (v-1) = k(k-1) (that is, these integers satisfy the parametric feasibility conditions for a symmetric (v,k,)-design). Further assume that D is a quasi-symmetric design, that is D has at most two block intersection numbers. Let m , 0 m+ in Kato's class. We investigate the spectral function s( + m) where s( + m) denotes the upper bound of the spectrum of the Schrödinger operator + m. In particular, we determine its derivative at 0. If m- is sufficiently large, we show that there exists a unique 1 > 0 such that s( + 1m) = 0. REF is the statement that every stationary subset of a cardinal reflects, unless it fails to do so for a trivial reason. The main theorem, presented in Sect. 0, is that under suitable assumptions it is consistent that REF and there is a which is +n -supercompact. The main concepts defined in Sect. 1 are PT, which is a certain statement about the existence of transversals, and the bad stationary set. It is shown that supercompactness (and even the failure of PT) implies the existence of non-reflecting stationary sets. E.g., if REF then for many PT(, 1). In Sect. 2 it is shown that Easton-support iteration of suitable Levy collapses yield a universe with REF if for every singular which is a limit of supercompacts the bad stationary set concentrates on the right cofinalities. In Sect. 3 the use of oracle c.c. (and oracle proper—see [Sh-b, Chap. IV] and [Sh 100, Sect. 4]) is adapted to replacing the diamond by the Laver diamond. Using this, a universe as needed in Sect. 2 is forced, where one starts, and ends, with a universe with a proper class of supercompacts. In Sect. 4 bad sets are handled in ZFC. For a regular {<+ : cf<} is good. It is proved in ZFC that if=cf>1 then {<+ : cf<} is the union of sets on which there are squares.  相似文献
