Explicit formulae for the finite strain and rotation measures are given, in the cases when either one of the infinitesimal tensors of strain and rotation vanishes. It is proposed to investigate the stability of a plane axisymmetric flow with an angular velocity profile (r) such that the angular velocity is constant when r < rO – L and r > rO + L but varies monotonically from 1 to 2 near the point rO, the thickness of the transition zone being small L rO, whereas the change in velocity is not small ¦21¦ 2, 1. Obviously, as L O short-wave disturbances with respect to the azimuthal coordinate (k=m/rO 1/rO) will be unstable with a growth rate-close to the Kelvin—Helmholtz growth rate. In the case L=O (i.e., for a profile with a shear-discontinuity) we find the instability growth rate O and show that where the thickness of the discontinuity L is finite (but small) the growth rate does not differ from O up to terms proportional to kL 1 and 1/m 1. Using this example it is possible to investigate the effect of rotation on the flow stability. In a previous derivation of Darcy's law, the closure problem was presented in terms of an integro-differential equation for a second-order tensor. In this paper, we show that the closure problem can be transformed to a set of Stokes-like equations and we compare solutions of these equations with experimental data. In this paper, a method using the mean velocity profiles for the buffer layer was developed for the estimation of the virtual origin over a riblets surface in an open channel flow. First, the standardized profiles of the mixing length were estimated from the velocity measurement in the inner layer, and the location of the edge of the viscous layer was obtained. Then, the virtual origins were estimated by the best match between the measured velocity profile and the equations of the velocity profile derived from the mixing length profiles. It was made clear that the virtual origin and the thickness of the viscous layer are the function of the roughness Reynolds number. Zusammenfassung Zur Berechnung turbulenter Strömungen wird das k--Modell im Ansatz für die turbulente Scheinzähigkeit erweitert, so daß es den Querkrümmungs- und Dichteeinfluß auf den turbulenten Transportaustausch erfaßt. Die dabei zu bestimmenden Konstanten werden derart festgelegt, daß die bestmögliche Übereinstimmung zwischen Berechnung und Messung erzielt wird. Die numerische Integration der Grenzschichtgleichungen erfolgt unter Verwendung einer Transformation mit dem Differenzenverfahren vom Hermiteschen Typ. Das erweiterte Modell wird auf rotationssymmetrische Freistrahlen veränderlicher Dichte angewendet und zeigt Übereinstimmung zwischen Rechnung und Experiment.
On the influence of transvers-curvature and density in inhomogeneous turbulent free jets
The prediction of turbulent flows based on the k- model is extended to include the influence of transverse-curvature and density on the turbulent transport mechanisms. The empirical constants involved are adjusted such that the best agreement between predictions and experimental results is obtained. Using a transformation the boundary layer equations are solved numerically by means of a finite difference method of Hermitian type. The extended model is applied to predict the axisymmetric jet with variable density. The results of the calculations are in agreement with measurements.

This paper presents a physics-oriented approach to approximate the continuum equations governing porous media flow by discrete analogs. To that end, the continuity equation and Darcys law are reformulated using exterior differential forms. This way the derivation of a system of algebraic equations (the discrete analog) on a finite-volume mesh can be accomplished by simple and elegant translation rules. In the discrete analog the information about the conductivities of the porous medium and the metric of the mesh are represented in one matrix: the discrete dual. The discrete dual of the block-centered finite difference method is presented first. Since this method has limited applicability with respect to anisotropy and non-rectangular grid blocks, the finite element dual is introduced as an alternative. Application of a domain decomposition technique yields the face-centered finite element method. Since calculations based on pressures in volume centers are sometimes preferable, a volume-centered approximation of the face-centered approximation is presented too.  相似文献

A mixed convection parameter=(Ra) 1/4/(Re)1/2, with=Pr/(1+Pr) and=Pr/(1 +Pr)1/2, is proposed to replace the conventional Richardson number, Gr/Re2, for combined forced and free convection flow on an isothermal vertical plate. This parameter can readily be reduced to the controlling parameters for the relative importance of the forced and the free convection,Ra 1/4/(Re 1/2 Pr 1/3) forPr 1, and (RaPr)1/2/(RePr 1/2 forPr 1. Furthermore, new coordinates and dependent variables are properly defined in terms of, so that the transformed nonsimilar boundary-layer equations give numerical solutions that are uniformly valid over the entire range of mixed convection intensity from forced convection limit to free convection limit for fluids of any Prandtl number from 0.001 to 10,000. The effects of mixed convection intensity and the Prandtl number on the velocity profiles, the temperature profiles, the wall friction, and the heat transfer rate are illustrated for both cases of buoyancy assisting and opposing flow conditions.

Zusammenfassung Für die kombinierte Zwangs- und freie Konvektion an einer isothermen senkrechten Platte wird ein Mischkonvektions-Parameter=( Ra) 1/4 (Re)1/2, mit=Pr/(1 +Pr) und=Pr/(1 +Pr)1/2 vorgeschlagen, den die gebräuchliche Richardson-Zahl, Gr/Re2, ersetzen soll. Dieser Parameter kann ohne weiteres auf die maßgebenden Kennzahlen für den relativen Einfluß der erzwungenen und der freien Konvektion reduziert werden,Ra 1/4/(Re 1/2 Pr 1/3) fürPr 1 und (RaPr)1/4/(RePr)1/2 fürPr 1. Weiterhin werden neue Koordinaten und abhängige Variablen als Funktion von definiert, so daß für die transformierten Grenzschichtgleichungen numerische Lösungen erstellt werden können, die über den gesamten Bereich der Mischkonvektion, von der freien Konvektion bis zur Zwangskonvektion, für Fluide jeglicher Prandtl-Zahl von 0.001 bis 10.000 gleichmäßig gültig sind. Der Einfluß der Intensität der Mischkonvektion und der Prandtl-Zahl auf die Geschwindigkeitsprofile, die Temperaturprofile, die Wandreibung und den Wärmeübergangskoeffizienten werden für die beiden Fälle der Strömung in und entgegengesetzt zur Schwerkraftrichtung dargestellt.

The behavior of supersonic mixing layers under three conditions has been examined by schlieren photography and laser Doppler velocimetry. In the schlieren photographs, some large-scale, repetitive patterns were observed within the mixing layer; however, these structures do not appear to dominate the mixing layer character under the present flow conditions. It was found that higher levels of secondary freestream turbulence did not increase the peak turbulence intensity observed within the mixing layer, but slightly increased the growth rate. Higher levels of freestream turbulence also reduced the axial distance required for development of the mean velocity. At higher convective Mach numbers, the mixing layer growth rate was found to be smaller than that of an incompressible mixing layer at the same velocity and freestream density ratio. The stress-strain isothermal hysteresis loops due to the incomplete martensitic transformation are analysed for Ti-Ni shape memory alloys. Experiments show the existence of two distinct yield lines for phase transition; one for the forward transformation austenitemartensite (AM), the other for the reverse transformation MA. The tensile behaviour of single crystals with only one yield line (AM) [1] can be considered as an ideal case. An extension of a thermodynamic model for pseudoelasticity [2] allows these two yield lines to be taken into account.

Il comportamento a trazione di un singolo cristallo con una sola linea di snervamento (AM) [1], può essere considerato un caso ideale. L'estensione ad un modello termodinamico pseudo-elastico [2] consente di analizzare queste due linee di snervamento.

The results of laboratory observations of the deformation of deep water gravity waves leading to wave breaking are reported. The specially developed visualization technique which was used is described. A preliminary analysis of the results has led to similar conclusions than recently developed theories. This paper presents some test and analysis results for a spot welded joint subjected to tensile and alternate load. The effect of sheet rigidity on the tensile strength and fatigue life of the spot welded joint is studied by using the stress intensity factorsK I,K II,K III and an effective stress intensity factor Kmax calculated by the finite element method for crack around the nugget. The results show that the effective stress intensity factor Kmax is an essential parameter for estimating the fatigue life of the spot welded joint.  相似文献

An analysis is presented for the primary resonance of a clamped-hinged beam, which occurs when the frequency of excitation is near one of the natural frequencies,n . Three mode interaction (2 31 and 3 1 + 22) is considered and its influence on the response is studied. The case of two mode interaction (2 31) is also considered to compare it with the case of three mode interaction. The straight beam experiencing mid-plane stretching is governed by a nonlinear partial differential equation. By using Galerkin's method the governing equation is reduced to a system of nonautonomous ordinary differential equations. The method of multiple scales is applied to solve the system. Steady-state responses and their stability are examined. Results of numerical investigations show that there exists no significant difference between both modal interactions' influences on the responses.  相似文献

The wedge subjected to tractions: a paradox resolved   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
The classical two-dimensional solution provided by Lévy for the stress distribution in an elastic wedge, loaded by a uniform pressure on one face, becomes infinite when the opening angle 2 of the wedge satisfies the equation tan 2 = 2. Such pathological behavior prompted the investigation in this paper of the stresses and displacements that are induced by tractions of O(r ) as r0. The key point is to choose an Airy stress function which generates stresses capable of accommodating unrestricted loading. Fortunately conditions can be derived which pre-determine the form of the necessary Airy stress function. The results show that inhomogeneous boundary conditions can induce stresses of O(r ), O(r ln r), or O(r ln2 r) as r0, depending on which conditions are satisfied. The stress function used by Williams is sufficient only if the induced stress and displacement behavior is of the power type. The wedge loaded by uniform antisymmetric shear tractions is shown in this paper to exhibit stresses of O(ln r) as r0 for the half-plane or crack geometry. At the critical opening angle 2, uniform antisymmetric normal and symmetric shear tractions also induce the above type of stress singularity. No anticipating such stresses, Lévy used an insufficiently general Airy stress function that led to the observed pathological behavior at 2.  相似文献

In this paper we continue the geometrical studies of computer generated two-phase systems that were presented in Part IV. In order to reduce the computational time associated with the previous three-dimensional studies, the calculations presented in this work are restricted to two dimensions. This allows us to explore more thoroughly the influence of the size of the averaging volume and to learn something about the use of anon-representative region in the determination of averaged quantities.

The character of stability loss of the circular Couette flow, when the Reynolds number R passes through the critical value R0, is investigated within a broad range of variation of the wave numbers. The Lyapunov-Schmidt method is used [1, 2]; the boundary-value problems for ordinary differential equations arising in the case of its realization are solved numerically on a computer. It is shown that the branching character substantially depends on the wave number . For all a, excluding a certain interval (1, 2), the usual postcritical branching takes place: at a small supercriticality the circular flow loses stability and is softly excited into a secondary stationary flow — stable Taylor vortices. For wave numbers from the interval (1,2) a hard excitation of Taylor vortices takes place: at a small subcriticality R=R02 the secondary mode is unstable and merges with the Couette flow for 0; however, for a small supercriticality in the neighborhood of a circular flow there exist no stationary modes which are different.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 3, pp. 132–135, May–June, 1976.  相似文献
