Stingless bee honey has a distinctive flavor and sour taste compared to Apis mellifera honey. Currently, interest in farming stingless bees is growing among rural residents to meet the high demand for raw honey and honey-based products. Several studies on stingless bee honey have revealed various therapeutic properties for wound healing applications. These include antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing properties related to wound healing. The development of stingless bee honey for wound healing applications, such as incorporation into hydrogels, has attracted researchers worldwide. As a result, the effectiveness of stingless bee honey against wound infections can be improved in the future to optimize healing rates. This paper reviewed the physicochemical and therapeutic properties of stingless bee honey and its efficacy in treating wound infection, as well as the incorporation of stingless bee honey into hydrogels for optimized wound dressing.  相似文献

In recent years, chitosan has been applied for wound management due to its properties of biocompatibility, biodegradability, antimicrobial activity, and low immunogenicity. But the poor water solubility in neutral pH limited its further application in clinical wound healing. To overcome this problem, acetate chitosan was developed and approved as commercial products for wound healing. However, the acidity of acetate chitosan was potentially allergenic, and the poor mechanical properties of its formed hydrogels also hindered the therapeutic efficacy in wound care. In this study, CaCO3 was simply doped into acetate chitosan to form the wound dressing. After absorbing water, the H+ of acetate chitosan reacted with CaCO3 to release Ca2+, resulting in acidity decreased. The production of Ca2+ and residue of CaCO3 cross‐linked with chitosan to form a tough hydrogel by electrostatic interaction. The physical characteristics, swelling, mechanical testing, and blood clotting were evaluated. The results in vitro demonstrated that after doping CaCO3 into acetate chitosan, the mechanical properties and blood clotting of the formed hydrogel were increased. Then, the evaluation of hydrogels in vivo revealed that it can also accelerate the wound healing by promoting re‐epithelization and collagen deposition. This simple way by doping CaCO3 into acetate chitosan can increase wound healing, and it can also broad the application of acetate chitosan in clinical use.  相似文献

As a representative of chronic wounds, the long-term high levels of oxidative stress and blood sugar in chronic diabetic wounds lead to serious complications, making them the biggest challenge in the research on wound healing. Many edible natural biomaterials rich in terpenes, phenols, and flavonoids can act as efficient antioxidants. In this study, okra extract was selected as the main component of a wound dressing. The okra extracts obtained via different methods comprehensively maintained the bioactivity of multiple molecules. The robust antioxidant properties of okra significantly reduced intracellular reactive oxygen species production, thereby accelerating the wound healing process. The results showed that okra extracts and their hydrogel dressings increased cell migration, angiogenesis, and re-epithelization of the chronic wound area, considerably promoting wound remodeling in diabetic rats. Therefore, okra-based hydrogels are promising candidates for skin regeneration and wider tissue engineering applications.  相似文献

Wound healing poses a serious therapeutic problem. Methods which accelerate tissue regeneration and minimize or eliminate complications are constantly being sought. This paper is aimed at evaluation of the potential use of biodegradable polymer nonwovens releasing propolis as wound healing dressings, based on the literature data. Propolis is honeybee product with antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and regenerative properties. Controlled release of this substance throughout the healing should promote healing process, reduce the risk of wound infection, and improve aesthetic effect. The use of biodegradable aliphatic polyesters and polyester carbonates as a propolis carrier eliminates the problem of local drug administration and dressing changes. Well-known degradation processes and kinetics of the active substance release allows the selection of the material composition appropriate to the therapy. The electrospinning method allows the production of nonwovens that protect the wound against mechanical damage. Moreover, this processing technique enables adjusting product properties by modifying the production parameters. It can be concluded that biodegradable polymer dressings, releasing a propolis, may find potential application in the treatment of complicated wounds, as they may increase the effectiveness of treatment, as well as improve the patient’s life quality.  相似文献

The present work investigates Ca2+‐crosslinked nanofibrillated cellulose hydrogels as potential hemostatic wound dressings by studying core interactions between the materials and a central component of wounds and wound healing—the blood. Hydrogels of wood‐derived anionic nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) and NFC hydrogels that incorporate kaolin or collagen are studied in an in vitro whole blood model and with platelet‐free plasma assays. The evaluation of thrombin and factor XIIa formation, platelet reduction, and the release of activated complement system proteins, shows that the NFC hydrogel efficiently triggered blood coagulation, with a rapid onset of clot formation, while displaying basal complement system activation. By using the NFC hydrogel as a carrier of kaolin, the onset of hemostasis is further boosted, while the NFC hydrogel containing collagen exhibits blood activating properties comparable to the anionic NFC hydrogel. The herein studied NFC hydrogels demonstrate great potential for being part of advanced wound healing dressings that can be tuned to target certain wounds (e.g., strongly hemorrhaging ones) or specific phases of the wound healing process for optimal wound management.  相似文献

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease affecting the globe and its incidence is increasing pandemically. The use of plant-derived natural products for diabetes management is of great interest. Polar fraction of Artemisia annua L. leaves has shown antidiabetic activity in vivo. In the present study, three major compounds were isolated from this polar fraction; namely, 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid (1); 4,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid (2), and 3,4- dicaffeoylquinic acid methyl ester (3), using VLC-RP-18 and HPLC techniques. The potential protective effects of these compounds against diabetes and its complications were investigated by employing various in vitro enzyme inhibition assays. Furthermore, their antioxidant and wound healing effectiveness were evaluated. Results declared that these dicaffeoylquinic acids greatly inhibited DPPIV enzyme while moderately inhibited α-glucosidase enzyme, where compounds 1 and 3 displayed the most prominent effects. In addition, compound 3 showed pronounced inhibition of α-amylase enzyme. Moreover, these compounds markedly inhibited aldose reductase enzyme and exerted powerful antioxidant effects, among which compound 3 exhibited the highest activity implying a notable potentiality in impeding diabetes complications. Interestingly, compounds 2 and 3 moderately accelerated scratch wound healing. Our findings suggest that these dicaffeoylquinic acids can be promising therapeutic agents for managing diabetes and its complications.  相似文献

Surgical suture is commonly used in clinic due to its action in accelerating the process of wound healing. However, difficultly handling in minimally invasive surgery and bacteria-induced infection usually limit its use in a wide range of applications. Here,we report a facile scalable strategy to fabricate surgical sutures with shape memory function and antibacterial activity for wound healing.Specifically,a shape memory polyurethane(SMPU) with a transition temperature(T_(trans)) at 41.3℃ was synthesized by adjusting the mole ratio of the hard/soft segment, and then the shape memory surgical sutures containing polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride(PHMB) as a model drug for antibacterial activity were fabricated by a facile scalable one-step wet-spinning approach,in which PHMB was directly dissolved in the coagulation bath that enable its loading into the sutures through the dual diffusion during the phase separation. The prepared sutures were characterized by their morphology, mechanical properties, shape memory, antibacterial activity,as well as biocompatibility before the wound healing capability was tested in a mouse skin suture-wound model. It was demonstrated that the optimized suture is capable of both shape memory function and antibacterial activity, and promote wound healing, suggesting that the facile scalable one-step wet-spinning strategy provides a promising tool to fabricate surgical sutures for wound healing.  相似文献

Wound healing is a complex physiological procedure that includes diverse stages, comprising hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling to reconstruct the skin and subcutaneous tissue's integrity. As reported, various coexisting diseases (diabetes, vascular diseases, etc.) substantially impact wound healing. Factors like recurring injury, age, or hypertrophic scarring also affect wound healing. The management of wound care depends primarily on the advancement of novel and efficient wound dressing substances, and it persists to be a vivid research area in chronic wound healing. Over the past years, the investigation and advancement of wound dressing biomaterials have registered a new standard level, and superior knowledge based on chronic wound pathogenesis has been achieved. Recently, nanotechnology has presented an excellent method to accelerate acute and chronic wound healing via stimulating appropriate movement through the diverse healing stages. Among various nanomaterials, nanoparticles (NPs) have been spotlighted as an efficient treatment strategy for wound healing due to their ability to act as both a therapeutic and carrier system. Their small size and high surface area to volume ratio enhance the probability of bio-interaction and penetration at the wound area aiding cell–cell interactions, the proliferation of cells, cell signaling, and vascularization. This review endeavored to throw light on different aspects of wounds and the latest advances in nanoparticle-based biomaterials for effective wound healing. Further, challenges and future potentialities have been addressed.  相似文献

Wound infections slow down the healing process and lead to complications such as septicemia, osteomyelitis, and even death. Although traditional methods relying on antibiotics are effective in controlling infection, they have led to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Hydrogels with antimicrobial function become a viable option for reducing bacterial colonization and infection while also accelerating healing processes. Chitosan is extensively developed as antibacterial wound dressings due to its unique biochemical properties and inherent antibacterial activity. In this review, the recent research progress of chitosan-based hydrogels for infected wound treatment, including the fabrication methods, antibacterial mechanisms, antibacterial performance, wound healing efficacy, etc., is summarized. A concise assessment of current limitations and future trends is presented.  相似文献

The concept of macromolecules, which is applied to synthetic and natural polymers, allows for various contemporary polymeric materials and inventive uses. A dynamic structure of macromolecules called the extracellular matrix (ECM) maintains tissues and organs functioning. The cell therapy procedure known as wound healing involves depositing ECM components such as collagen, fibronectin, and laminin. The clinical assessment and management of wounds remain challenging despite the introduction of numerous therapeutic regimens because of their laboriously prolonged treatment requirements and complex wound-healing mechanisms using macromolecules of a specific type, such as proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids. Additionally, proteins affect the wound site's mechanical characteristics, such as tensile strength, elasticity, and permeability, which impact the effectiveness and success of wound healing. The main goal of this article is to give a current overview of how therapeutic alternatives have evolved using cutting-edge innovative techniques for the healing and treatment of wounds. In this article, we have covered different types of macromolecules, how diet affects the wound, what causes wounds, and how macromolecules can help, and how to treat wounds.  相似文献

One of the most common problems in wounds is delayed healing and complications such as infection. Therefore, the need for novel materials accelerates the healing of wounds especially abdominal wounds after surgery besides high efficiency and safety is mandatory. The rate of wound healing, anti-inflammatory and biocompatibility of Zn-Al LDH (Zn-Al layer double hydroxide) alone and loaded with Curcumin (Zn-Al LDH/Curcumin) was screened via in-vivo assays through intramuscular implantation in rat abdominal wall with intact peritoneum cavity. The implanted drugs were formed through Curcumin loaded into LDH of Zn-Al with drug release of 56.78 ± 1.51% within 24 h. The synthesized nanocomposite was characterized by (TGA/DTA) thermal analysis, (XRD) X-ray diffraction, (FESEM) Field emission scanning electron microscopy, (HRTEM) high resolution transmission electron microscope, energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and low-temperature N2 adsorption, pore volume and average pore size distribution. The integrity of blood circulation, inflammatory signs, wound healing rate, capacity of tissue integration, antigenicity and composite biocompatibility, auto fluorescence ability of collagen bundles and the tensile strength of the muscle were assessed histopathologically after 7 and 30 days’ post-implantation. Excellent wound healing ability was achieved with shortest length between the wound gap edges and higher tensile strength of the muscle. Besides emit florescence very well followed by good healing and tensile muscles strength in Curcumin while very low strength with scar formation in Zn-Al LDH/Curcumin in both acute and chronic wound. No signs of inflammation in Curcumin & Zn-Al LDH. No vessels obstruction or bleeding observed in both Zn-Al LDH and Curcumin more than Zn-Al LDH/Curcumin and control which examined through candling. Good healing & infiltrated immune cells in same groups through histopathological examination. This work supports the anti-inflammatory, wound healing and biocompatibility of both LDH and Curcumin with living matter, increasing their biomedical applications in this era with safety and increasing efficacy with prolonged drug release.  相似文献

Surgical procedures are susceptible to the cause of infections, which could induce delayed wound healing, oxidative stress and tissue ischemia. Multifunctional wound dressings (e.g., hydrogels) without the induction of antibiotics is promising for the elimination of surgical site infections and the associated complications. Herein, we report a reductionism approach for the fabrication of bioactive hydrogels to recapitulate antibacterial functions as well as antioxidant, pro-angiogenic and hemostatic properties in surgical infection treatments. The hydrogels composed of naturally derived Cirsium setosum extracts (CE, a traditional medicinal herb) and carboxymethyl chitosan (CS) show their capacity for surgical anti-infections on three different models (i.e., infectious random skin flap model, infectious skin defect model and infectious femur fracture model). Due to the innate bioactivities of CE and CS, CECS hydrogels can also reduce the bleeding loss (85% reduction) on a hemorrhaging liver model and improve the vascularization for skin flap regeneration. Overall, bioactive CECS hydrogels integrated with the ease and scalability of assembly process and biological activities without the addition of antibiotics is promising to act as multifunctional wound dressings for surgical anti-infections.  相似文献

Since ancient times, wound dressings have evolved with persistent and substantial changes. Several efforts have been made toward the development of new dressing materials, which can meet the demanding conditions for the treatment of skin wounds. Currently, many studies have been focused on the production and designing of herb‐incorporated wound dressings. Herb‐derived constituents are more effective than conventional medicines because of their nontoxic nature and can be administered over long periods. Herbal medicines in wound healing provide a suitable environment for aiding the natural course of healing. This review mainly focuses on the diverse approaches that have been developed to produce a wound dressing material, which can deliver herb‐derived bioactive constituents in a controlled manner. This review also discusses the common wound‐dressing materials available, basic principles of wound healing, and wound‐healing agents from medicinal plants.  相似文献

Uncontrollable hemorrhage remains staple trouble in surgical procedures and a leading cause after major trauma. The bleeding issue may trigger various pathologic scenarios that can lead to tissue morbidities and mortalities, and currently available on-site hemostatic agents are confined to a narrow therapeutic index and may carry the risk of immunogenicity. Inspired by the crucial role of platelets in the process of thrombus, a platelet-mimetic plateletsome with wound targeting and blood coagula...  相似文献

Wound healing, one of the most complex processes of the body involving the cooperation of several important biomolecules and pathways, is one of the major therapeutic and economic issues in regenerative medicine. The present study aimed to introduce a novel electrospun curcumin (Cur)‐incorporated chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol/carbopol/polycaprolactone nanofibrous composite for concurrent delivery of the buccal fat pad‐derived mesenchymal stem cells (BFP‐MSCs) and Cur to a full‐thickness wound on the mouse model. Scaffolds were characterized structurally using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), fluorescence microscopy imaging and Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, and toxicity of the scaffolds was also evaluated after BFP‐MSC seeding by SEM imaging and 3‐(4,5 dimethyiazol‐2‐1)‐2‐5‐diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Then, its influence on the wound‐healing process was investigated as a wound dressing for a full‐thickness skin defect in mouse model. Results demonstrated that the designed composite scaffolds have the capability for cell seeding and support their growth and proliferation. Macroscopic and histopathological characteristics were evaluated at the end of the 7 and 14 days after surgery, and their results showed that our designed scaffold groups accelerated the wound‐healing process compared with the control group. Among those, scaffold/Cur, scaffold/Cur/BFP‐MSC and scaffold/BFP‐MSC groups demonstrated more wound repair efficacy. These results indicated that the combined grafts can be used to improve the wound‐healing process, and therefore, the electrospun nanofibers presented in this study, Cur and BFP‐MSC together, were demonstrated to have promising potential for wound‐dressing applications.  相似文献

Plasma medicine
Different aspects of plasma medicine, the new branch interdisciplinary between plasma chemistry and medicine, are considered. It was shown that complex biological processes in living tissues and bodies can be controlled, stimulated, catalyzed, and diagnosed with the use of low-temperature, atmospheric-pressure air plasma. It was found that discharge plasma can produce the desired therapeutic effect in wound sterilization and healing, as well as in treatment of some skin diseases. The action of plasma is harmless for the human body under definite conditions and exerts a targeted, nondestructive therapeutic effect.  相似文献
