Electrocatalytic carbon dioxide reduction holds great promise for reducing the atmospheric CO2 level and alleviating the energy crisis. High‐performance electrocatalysts are often required in order to lower the high overpotential and expedite the sluggish reaction kinetics of CO2 electroreduction. Copper is a promising candidate metal. However, it usually suffers from the issues of poor stability and low product selectivity. In this work, bimetallic Cu‐Bi is obtained by reducing the microspherical copper bismuthate (CuBi2O4) for selectively catalyzing the CO2 reduction to formate (HCOO). The bimetallic Cu‐Bi electrocatalyst exhibits high activity and selectivity with the Faradic efficiency over 90% in a wide potential window. A maximum Faradaic efficiency of ~95% is obtained at –0.93 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode. Furthermore, the catalyst shows high stability over 6 h with Faradaic efficiency of ~95%. This study provides an important clue in designing new functional materials for CO2 electroreduction with high activity and selectivity.  相似文献

Two-dimensional (2D) monometallic pnictogens (antimony or Sb, and bismuth or Bi) nanosheets demonstrate potential in a variety of fields, including quantum devices, catalysis, biomedicine and energy, because of their unique physical, chemical, electronic and optical properties. However, the development of general and high-efficiency preparative routes toward high-quality pnictogen nanosheets is challenging. A general method involving a molten-salt-assisted aluminothermic reduction process is reported for the synthesis of Sb and Bi nanosheets in high yields (>90 %). Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction was investigated on the Bi nanosheets, and high catalytic selectively to formate was demonstrated with a considerable current density at a low overpotential and an impressive stability. Bi nanosheets continuously convert CO2 into formate in a flow cell operating for one month, with a yield rate of 787.5 mmol cm−2 h−1. Theoretical results suggest that the edge sites of Bi are far more active than the terrace sites.  相似文献

To reveal the nature of CO2 reduction to formate with high efficiency by in situ hydrogen produced from hydrothermal reactions with iron, DFT calculations were used. A reaction pathway was proposed in which the formate was produced through the key intermediate species, namely iron hydride, produced in situ in the process of hydrogen gas production. In the in situ hydrogenation of CO2, the charge of H in the iron hydride was −0.135, and the Fe–H bond distance was approximately 1.537 Å. A C-H bond was formed as a transition state during the attack of Hδ− on Cδ+. Finally, a HCOO species was formed. The distance of the C-H bond was 1.107 Å. The calculated free energy barrier was 16.43 kcal/mol. This study may provide new insight into CO2 reduction to formate in hydrothermal reactions with metal.  相似文献

Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction is great promising in alleviating the excessive CO2 emission and the conversion to valuable productions. Herein we report the in-situ controlled growth of Bismuth nanoflower/graphdiyne heterostructures(Bi/GDY) for efficient CO2 conversion toward formate. Based on GDY, the obtained electrocatalyst exhibits a partial current density of 19.2 mA/cm2 and high reaction selectivity towards formate with a high Faradic efficiency of 91.7% at ‒1.03 V vs. RHE, and an energy efficiency of 58.8%. The high formate yield rates could be maintained at around 300 μmol/(cm2·h) over a wide potential range. Detailed characterizations show that the unique interface structures between GDY and Bi can enhance the charge transfer ability, increase the number of active sites, and improve the long-term stability, and finally reach high-performance electrocatalytic conversion of CO2 to formate.  相似文献

Carbon dioxide (CO2) conversion is promising in alleviating the excessive CO2 level and simultaneously producing valuables. This work reports the preparation of carbon nanorods encapsulated bismuth oxides for the efficient CO2 electroconversion toward formate production. This resultant catalyst exhibits a small onset potential of ?0.28 V vs. RHE and partial current density of over 200 mA cm?2 with a stable and high Faradaic efficiency of 93 % for formate generation in a flow cell configuration. Electrochemical results demonstrate the synergistic effect in the Bi2O3@C promotes the rapid and selective CO2 reduction in which the Bi2O3 is beneficial for improving the reaction kinetics and formate selectivity, while the carbon matrix would be helpful for enhancing the activity and current density of formate production. This work provides effective bismuth‐based MOF derivatives for efficient formate production and offers insights in promoting practical CO2 conversion technology.  相似文献

Electroreduction of CO2 into formic acid (HCOOH) is of particular interest as a hydrogen carrier and chemical feedstock. However, its conversion is limited by a high overpotential and low stability due to undesirable catalysts and electrode design. Herein, an integrated 3D bismuth oxide ultrathin nanosheets/carbon foam electrode is designed by a sponge effect and N-atom anchor for energy-efficient and selective electrocatalytic conversion of CO2 to HCOOH for the first time. Benefitting from the unique 3D array foam architecture for highly efficient mass transfer, and optimized exposed active sites, as confirmed by density functional theory calculations, the integrated electrode achieves high electrocatalytic performance, including superior partial current density and faradaic efficiency (up to 94.1 %) at a moderate overpotential as well as a high energy conversion efficiency of 60.3 % and long-term durability.  相似文献

Electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) into value‐added chemicals is a promising strategy to reduce CO2 emission and mitigate climate change. One of the most serious problems in electrocatalytic CO2 reduction (CO2R) is the low solubility of CO2 in an aqueous electrolyte, which significantly limits the cathodic reaction rate. This paper proposes a facile method of catholyte‐free electrocatalytic CO2 reduction to avoid the solubility limitation using commercial tin nanoparticles as a cathode catalyst. Interestingly, as the reaction temperature rises from 303 K to 363 K, the partial current density (PCD) of formate improves more than two times with 52.9 mA cm?2, despite the decrease in CO2 solubility. Furthermore, a significantly high formate concentration of 41.5 g L?1 is obtained as a one‐path product at 343 K with high PCD (51.7 mA cm?2) and high Faradaic efficiency (93.3 %) via continuous operation in a full flow cell at a low cell voltage of 2.2 V.  相似文献

One of the most effective ways to cope with the problems of global warming and the energy shortage crisis is to develop renewable and clean energy sources. To achieve a carbon-neutral energy cycle, advanced carbon sequestration technologies are urgently needed, but because CO2 is a thermodynamically stable molecule with the highest carbon valence state of +4, this process faces many challenges. In recent years, electrochemical CO2 reduction has become a promising approach to fix and convert CO2 into high-value-added fuels and chemical feedstock. However, the large-scale commercial use of electrochemical CO2 reduction systems is hindered by poor electrocatalyst activity, large overpotential, low energy conversion efficiency, and product selectivity in reducing CO2. Therefore, there is an urgent need to rationally design highly efficient, stable, and scalable electrocatalysts to alleviate these problems. This minireview also aims to classify heterogeneous nanostructured electrocatalysts for the CO2 reduction reaction (CDRR).  相似文献

In addition, the latest applications of several of the above-mentioned metal aerogels in electrocatalytic CO2 reduction are discussed. Finally, considering the possibility of future applications of electrocatalytic CO2 reduction technology, a vision for industrialization and directions that can be optimized are proposed.  相似文献

As electron transfer to CO2 is generally considered to be the critical step during the activation of CO2, it is important to develop approaches to engineer the electronic properties of catalysts to improve their performance in CO2 electrochemical reduction. Herein, we developed an efficient strategy to facilitate CO2 activation by introducing oxygen vacancies into electrocatalysts with electronic‐rich surface. ZnO nanosheets rich in oxygen vacancies exhibited a current density of ?16.1 mA cm?2 with a Faradaic efficiency of 83 % for CO production. Based on density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the introduction of oxygen vacancies increased the charge density of ZnO around the valence band maximum, resulting in the enhanced activation of CO2. Mechanistic studies further revealed that the enhancement of CO production by introducing oxygen vacancies into ZnO nanosheets originated from the increased binding strength of CO2 and the eased CO2 activation.  相似文献

Solar CO2 reduction into hydrocarbons helps to solve the global warming and energy crisis. However, conventional semiconductors usually suffer from low photoactivity and poor photostability. Here, atomically‐thin oxide‐based semiconductors are proposed as excellent platforms to overcome this drawback. As a prototype, single‐unit‐cell Bi2WO6 layers are first synthesized by virtue of a lamellar Bi‐oleate intermediate. The single‐unit‐cell thickness allows 3‐times larger CO2 adsorption capacity and higher photoabsorption than bulk Bi2WO6. Also, the increased conductivity, verified by density functional theory calculations and temperature‐dependent resistivities, favors fast carrier transport. The carrier lifetime increased from 14.7 to 83.2 ns, revealed by time‐resolved fluorescence spectroscopy, which accounts for the improved electron‐hole separation efficacy. As a result, the single‐unit‐cell Bi2WO6 layers achieve a methanol formation rate of 75 μmol g?1 h?1, 125‐times higher than that of bulk Bi2WO6. The catalytic activity of the single‐unit‐cell layers proceeds without deactivation even after 2 days. This work will shed light on designing efficient and robust photoreduction CO2 catalysts.  相似文献

Electrochemically reducing CO2 to valuable fuels or feedstocks is recognized as a promising strategy to simultaneously tackle the crises of fossil fuel shortage and carbon emission. Sn-based catalysts have been widely studied for electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) to make formic acid/formate, which unfortunately still suffer from low activity, selectivity and stability. In this work, halogen (F, Cl, Br or I) was introduced into the Sn catalyst by a facile hydrolysis method. The presence of halogen was confirmed by a collection of ex situ and in situ characterizations, which rendered a more positive valence state of Sn in halogen-incorporated Sn catalyst as compared to unmodified Sn under cathodic potentials in CO2RR and therefore tuned the adsorption strength of the key intermediate (*OCHO) toward formate formation. As a result, the halogen-incorporated Sn catalyst exhibited greatly enhanced catalytic performance in electrochemical CO2RR to produce formate.  相似文献

Anchoring transition metal (TM) atoms on suitable substrates to form single-atom catalysts (SACs) is a novel approach to constructing electrocatalysts. Graphdiyne with sp−sp2 hybridized carbon atoms and uniformly distributed pores have been considered as a potential carbon material for supporting metal atoms in a variety of catalytic processes. Herein, density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed to study the single TM atom anchoring on graphdiyne (TM1−GDY, TM=Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co and Cu) as the catalysts for CO2 reduction. After anchoring metal atoms on GDY, the catalytic activity of TM1−GDY (TM=Mn, Co and Cu) for CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) are significantly improved comparing with the pristine GDY. Among the studied TM1−GDY, Cu1−GDY shows excellent electrocatalytic activity for CO2 reduction for which the product is HCOOH and the limiting potential (UL) is −0.16 V. Mn1−GDY and Co1−GDY exhibit superior catalytic selectivity for CO2 reduction to CH4 with UL of −0.62 and −0.34 V, respectively. The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) by TM1−GDY (TM=Mn, Co and Cu) occurs on carbon atoms, while the active sites of CO2RR are the transition metal atoms . The present work is expected to provide a solid theoretical basis for CO2 conversion into valuable hydrocarbons.  相似文献

Two‐dimensional (2D) engineering of materials has been recently explored to enhance the performance of electrocatalysts by reducing their dimensionality and introducing more catalytically active ones. In this work, controllable synthesis of few‐layer bismuth subcarbonate nanosheets has been achieved via an electrochemical exfoliation method. These nanosheets catalyse CO2 reduction to formate with high faradaic efficiency and high current density at a low overpotential owing to the 2D structure and co‐existence of bismuth subcarbonate and bismuth metal under catalytic turnover conditions. Two underlying fast electron transfer processes revealed by Fourier‐transformed alternating current voltammetry (FTacV) are attributed to CO2 reduction at bismuth subcarbonate and bismuth metal. FTacV results also suggest that protonation of CO2.? is the rate determining step for bismuth catalysed CO2 reduction.  相似文献

Electrochemical reduction of CO2 into various chemicals and fuels provides an attractive pathway for environmental and energy sustainability. It is now shown that a FeP nanoarray on Ti mesh (FeP NA/TM) acts as an efficient 3D catalyst electrode for the CO2 reduction reaction to convert CO2 into alcohols with high selectivity. In 0.5 m KHCO3, such FeP NA/TM is capable of achieving a high Faradaic efficiency (FE ) up to 80.2 %, with a total FE of 94.3 % at ?0.20 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the FeP(211) surface significantly promotes the adsorption and reduction of CO2 toward CH3OH owing to the synergistic effect of two adjacent Fe atoms, and the potential‐determining step is the hydrogenation process of *CO.  相似文献

Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction to value-added products provides a viable alternative to the use of carbon sources derived from fossil fuels. Carrying out these transformations at reasonable energetic costs, for example, with low overpotential, remains a challenge. Molecular catalysts allow fine control of activity and selectivity via tuning of their coordination sphere and ligand set. Herein we investigate a series of cobalt(III) pyridine-thiolate complexes as electrocatalysts for CO2 reduction. The effect of the ligands and proton sources on activity was examined. We identified bipyridine bis(2-pyridinethiolato) cobalt(III) hexaflurophosphate as a highly selective catalyst for formate production operating at a low overpotential of 110 mV with a turnover frequency (TOF) of 10 s−1. Electrokinetic analysis coupled with density functional theory (DFT) computations established the mechanistic pathway, highlighting the role of metal hydride intermediates. The catalysts deactivate via the formation of stable cobalt carbonyl complexes, but the active species could be regenerated upon oxidation and release of coordinated CO ligands.  相似文献

Closing the anthropogenic carbon cycle by converting CO2 into reusable chemicals is an attractive solution to mitigate rising concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere. Herein, we prepared Ni metal catalysts ranging in size from single atoms to over 100 nm and distributed them across N-doped carbon substrates which were obtained from converted zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF). The results show variance in CO2 reduction performance with variance in Ni metal size. Ni single atoms demonstrate a superior Faradaic efficiency (FE) for CO selectivity (ca. 97 % at −0.8 V vs. RHE), while results for 4.1 nm Ni nanoparticles are slightly lower (ca. 93 %). Further increase the Ni particle size to 37.2 nm allows the H2 evolution reaction (HER) to compete with the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). The FE towards CO production decreases to under 30 % and HER efficiency increase to over 70 %. These results show a size-dependent CO2 reduction for various sizes of Ni metal catalysts.  相似文献

The renewable-electricity-driven CO2 reduction to formic acid would contribute to establishing a carbon-neutral society. The current catalyst suffers from limited activity and stability under high selectivity and the ambiguous nature of active sites. Herein, we report a powerful Bi2S3-derived catalyst that demonstrates a current density of 2.0 A cm−2 with a formate Faradaic efficiency of 93 % at −0.95 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode. The energy conversion efficiency and single-pass yield of formate reach 80 % and 67 %, respectively, and the durability reaches 100 h at an industrial-relevant current density. Pure formic acid with a concentration of 3.5 mol L−1 has been produced continuously. Our operando spectroscopic and theoretical studies reveal the dynamic evolution of the catalyst into a nanocomposite composed of Bi0 clusters and Bi2O2CO3 nanosheets and the pivotal role of Bi0−Bi2O2CO3 interface in CO2 activation and conversion.
