Macdonald defined an involution on symmetric functions by considering the Lagrange inverse of the generating function of the complete homogeneous symmetric functions. The main result we prove in this note is that the images of skew Schur functions under this involution are either Schur positive or Schur negative symmetric functions. The proof relies on the combinatorics of Lagrange inversion. We also present a q-analogue of this result, which is related to the q-Lagrange inversion formula of Andrews, Garsia, and Gessel, as well as the operator of Bergeron and Garsia.  相似文献

By using this decomposition we thus can obtain an estimate of ∣f(x) - L n (f,x)∣ which reflects the influence of the position of the x's and ω(f (r+1),δ)j, j = 0,1,...,s, on the error of approximation. Given an analytic function f and a Jordan curve that does not pass through any zero of f, we consider the problem of computing all the zeros of f that lie inside , together with their respective multiplicities. Our principal means of obtaining information about the location of these zeros is a certain symmetric bilinear form that can be evaluated via numerical integration along . If f has one or several clusters of zeros, then the mapping from the ordinary moments associated with this form to the zeros and their respective multiplicities is very ill-conditioned. We present numerical methods to calculate the centre of a cluster and its weight, i.e., the arithmetic mean of the zeros that form a certain cluster and the total number of zeros in this cluster, respectively. Our approach relies on formal orthogonal polynomials and rational interpolation at roots of unity. Numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of our techniques.  相似文献

We generalize the Bell polynomials in order to derive an operational tool for the differentiation of composite functions in several variables. We provide a representation in terms of certain canonical functions for a sequence of polynomials orthogonal with respect to a weight that is strictly positive and analytic on the unit circle. These formulas yield a complete asymptotic expansion for these polynomials, valid uniformly in the whole complex plane. As a consequence, we obtain some results about the distribution of zeros of these polynomials. The main technique is the steepest descent analysis of Deift and Zhou, based on the matrix Riemann-Hilbert characterization proposed by Fokas, Its, and Kitaev.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the asymptotics of the Krawtchouk polynomials KnN(z;p,q) as the degree n becomes large. Asymptotic expansions are obtained when the ratio of the parameters n/N tends to a limit c ∈ (0, 1) as n →∞. The results are globally valid in one or two regions in the complex z-plane depending on the values of c and p;in particular, they are valid in regions containing the interval on which these polynomials are orthogonal. Our method is based on the Riemann-Hilbert approach introduced by Deift and Zhou.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper is to show how the Lagrange Inversion Formula (LIF) can be applied in a straight-forward way i) to find the generating function of many combinatorial sequences, ii) to extract the coefficients of a formal power series, iii) to compute combinatorial sums, and iv) to perform the inversion of combinatorial identities. Particular forms of the LIF are studied, in order to simplify the computation steps. Here presented is a unified approach to generalized Stirling functions by using generalized factorial functions, k-Gamma functions, generalized divided difference, and the unified expression of Stirling numbers defined in [16]. Previous well-known Stirling functions introduced by Butzer and Hauss [4], Butzer, Kilbas, and Trujilloet [6] and others are included as particular cases of our generalization. Some basic properties related to our general pattern such as their recursive relations, generating functions, and asymptotic properties are discussed,which extend the corresponding results about the Stirling numbers shown in [21] to the defined Stirling functions.  相似文献

Planar functions were introduced by Dembowski and Ostrom [4] to describe projective planes possessing a collineation group with particular properties. Several classes of planar functions over a finite field are described, including a class whose associated affine planes are not translation planes or dual translation planes. This resolves in the negative a question posed in [4]. These planar functions define at least one such affine plane of order 3e for every e 4 and their projective closures are of Lenz-Barlotti type II. All previously known planes of type II are obtained by derivation or lifting. At least when e is odd, the planes described here cannot be obtained in this manner.  相似文献

We consider real analytic involutive structures 𝒱, of co-rank one, defined on a real analytic paracompact orientable manifold M. To each such structure we associate certain connected subsets of M which we call the level sets of 𝒱. We prove that analytic regularity propagates along them. With a further assumption on the level sets of 𝒱 we characterize the global analytic hypoellipticity of a differential operator naturally associated to 𝒱.

For analytic functions the remainder term of Gaussian quadrature rules can be expressed as a contour integral with kernel . In this paper the kernel is studied on elliptic contours for a great variety of symmetric weight functions including especially Gegenbauer weight functions. First a new series representation of the kernel is developed and analyzed. Then the location of the maximum modulus of the kernel on suitable ellipses is determined. Depending on the weight function the maximum modulus is attained at the intersection point of the ellipse with either the real or imaginary axis. Finally, a detailed discussion for some special weight functions is given.
