A new synthesis of fervenulin 4-oxide

The reaction of 1,3-dimethyl-6-hydrazino-5-nitrosouracil (1) with Vilsmeier reagent (dimethylformamide-phosphorus oxychloride) afforded fervenulin 4-oxide (II) in good yield.

A new synthesis of cytotoxic ( )-7-epi-Goniofufurone

Cytotoxic styryl lactone, ( )-7-epi-Gonioftifurone (1), has been prepared with a new route from 3-O-benzyl-1,2-O-iso-propylidene-5-C-phenyl-β-L-ido-pentofuranose (6), a derivative of ( )-glucose. Treatment of 14 with HCl solution cleaved TBDMS and isopropylidene and simultaneously caused ring closure to afford 1 while treatment of 14 with Sc(OTf)3 only removed TBDMS to give 15.     

1,3-Dimethoxy-1,3-dimethyl-1,3-diphenyl- and 1,3-dimethoxy-1,3-tetraphenyldisiloxanes: synthesis and structure

A spectroscopic study of 1,3-dimethyl-2-(trimethylstannyl)-1,3-diaza-2-boracycloakanes

The vibrational spectra of 1,3-dimethyl-2-(trimethylstannyl)-1,3-diaza-2-boracyclopentane and the corresponding diazacyclohexane derivatives as well as those of some other 1,3-diaza-2-boracycloalkanes have been recorded. Boron-nitrogen valence vibrations are observed in the 1500±10 cm^?1 frequency region and boron-tin stretching is assigned near 760 cm^?1. These data are discussed in conjunction with the ¹¹B and ¹H NMR spectra of the various heterocycles and the tin Mössbauer spectra of the two boron-tin species.

A stereocontrolled route to the synthesis of (±)-3-amino-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-diphenylpropan-1-ol

Both the diastereomers of (±)-3-amino-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-diphenylpropan-1-ol were synthesized starting from a common intermediate, namely, β-hydroxy oxime 6. Diastereoselective reduction with NaBH₄/TiCl₄ and H₂-Pd/C provided syn- and anti-isomers, respectively. Good overall yield and selectivity were realized using a simple protocol.     

A new,unexpected synthesis of 1,3-dithietanones

Treatment of a geminal pivaloxy xanthate, prepared by an intermolecular radical addition of a xanthate to vinyl pivalate, gives a 1,3-dithietanone, a little known class of compounds.     

Dithiaindenes: Synthesis of 6-thia-7H-benzo [b] thiophene (1,6-dithiaindene) and 1,3-dimethyl-5-thia-4H-benzo [c] thiopene (1,3-dimethyl-2,5-dithiaindene) and attempted synthesis of 5-thia-4H-benzo [b] thiophene (1,5-dithiaindene)

Synthesis of the heteroaromatic systems 6-thia-7H-benzo [b] thiophene (3) and 1,3-dimethyl-5-thia-4H-benzo [c] thiopbene (5) have been achieved by reduction and dehydration of 1,6-dithiaindan-4-one (4) and 1,3-dimethyl-2,5-dithiaindan-7-one (8) respectively. A similar attempt to synthesise 5-thia-4H-benzo [b] thiophene (4) by dehydration of 7-hydroxy-1,5-dithiaindane (16) resulted in the formation of 7,7′-bis (1,5-dithiaindanyl) ether.
