The propagation of optical wave packets in the atomic medium that is placed inside the cavity is considered under the conditions for the strong coupling of atoms and the quantized field. Primary attention is paid to the mechanisms for the formation of coherent polaritons determined by the bound state of the optical field and atomic medium at the lower branch of the dispersion curves of these states. Significant variations (slowing) in the group velocity of the optical wave packets under quasi-condensation (or true condensation) conditions of polaritons are analyzed. An algorithm for the spatially distributed quantum recording, storage, and readout of the information related to the wave packet propagation is proposed.  相似文献

We discuss the evolution dynamics of a quantum system consisting of two two-level atoms separately embedded within two strongly coupled photonic crystal cavities.Although the quantum system is subjected to dissipation and decoherence from the cavity leakage and the atomic decay,it does allow for eigenstates that are not influenced by one of the two dissipation channels and results in dissipation-inhibition quantum states.These dissipationfree quantum states can help to achieve an extremely long photon and atom storage lifetime and provide a new perspective to realize efficient quantum information storage via reducing the negative influence of the dissipation from the environment.  相似文献

A potentially practical scheme is proposed to realize optical quantum simulation of artificial Abelian gauge field in a scalable architecture consisting of cold atomic ensembles with optical cavities.In the present model,the collective excitations of cold atomic ensembles can be converted to the bosonic modes within the low-excitation limit,where the structure of two-dimension(2D)square plaquette enables the polaritons to move like a charged particle subjected to an external magnetic field.We find that the energy spectrum of this hybrid system exhibits a shape of Hofstadter buttery.Our work provides a different perspective to the quantum simulation of condensed matter and many-body physics in the context of cavity quantum electrodynamics.The experimental feasibility are justified using the existing techniques.  相似文献

We present a scheme for the quantum storage of single photons using electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a low-finesse optical cavity, assisted by state-selected spontaneous atomic emission. Mediated by the dark mode of cavity EIT, the destructive quantum interference between the cavity input-output channel and state-selected atomic spontaneous emission leads to strong absorption of single photons with unknown arrival time and pulse shapes. We discuss the application of this phenomenon to photon counting using stored light.  相似文献

The principle of complementarity refers to the ability of quantum entities to behave as particles or waves under different experimental conditions. We present a proposal for the experimental observation of the ultrafast all-optical control of the wave-particle duality of light. The device is constituted by a three-level quantum emitter strongly coupled to a microcavity (MC) and can be realized by exploiting a great variety of systems, ranging from atomic physics and semiconductor quantum dots to intersubband polaritons and Cooper pair boxes. The wavelike or particlelike behavior of MC photons can be probed by simply measuring the cavity output photon rate after excitation with pairs of phase-locked weak pulses with precise arrival times.  相似文献

We consider a new approach to the problem of Bose–Einstein condensation (BEC) of polaritons for atom–field interaction under the strong coupling regime in the cavity. We investigate the dynamics of two macroscopically populated polariton modes corresponding to the upper and lower branch energy states coupled via Kerr-like nonlinearity of atomic medium. We found out the dispersion relations for new type of collective excitations in the system under consideration. Various temporal regimes like linear (nonlinear) Josephson transition and/or Rabi oscillations, macroscopic quantum self-trapping (MQST) dynamics for population imbalance of polariton modes are predicted. We also examine the switching properties for time-averaged population imbalance depending on initial conditions, effective nonlinear parameter of atomic medium and kinetic energy of low-branch polaritons. We investigate the effect of the dipole–dipole interaction(DDI) on the photon statistics with two atoms trapped in an optical cavity driven by a laser field and subjected to cooperative emission. By means of the quantum trajectory analysis and the second-order correlation functions, we show that the photon statistics of the cavity transmission can be flexibly modulated by the DDI while the incoming coherent laser selectively excites the atom–cavity system's nonlinear Jaynes–Cummings ladder of excited states. Finally, we find that the effect of the cooperatively atomic emission can also be revealed by the numerical simulations and can be explained with a simplified picture. The DDI induced nonlinearity gives rise to highly nonclassical photon emission from the cavity that is significant for quantum information processing and quantum communication.  相似文献

We propose an efficient quantum memory scheme with natural inhomogeneous broadening in an asymmetric optical cavity. The scheme uses the strong rephasing pulses like traditional photon echo techniques rather than spectral holeburning, which enables us to have the potential implementation in a much broader range of material systems. In the condition of impedance matching to an optical cavity, we find that the input light pulse can be completely absorbed by an atomic ensemble. We also show that the quantum memory efficiency can be equal to unity even for a small optical depth of the atomic system.  相似文献

We develop an analytical approach for calculating the scattering and bound states of two polaritons in a one-dimensional (1D) infinite array of coupled cavities, with each cavity coupled to a two-level system. We find that in such a system a contact interaction between two polaritons is induced by the non-linearity of the Jaynes–Cummigs Hamiltonian. We then solve the two-polariton problem with zero center-of-mass momentum, and find 1D scattering resonances. Our results are relevant to the transport of two polaritons, and are helpful for the investigation of many-body physics in a dilute gas of polaritons in a 1D cavity array.  相似文献

The theoretical and experimental status of the Bose–Einstein Condensation (BEC) of trapped quantum well (QW) polaritons in a microcavity is presented. The results of recent experiments that have shown the possibility to create an in-plane harmonic potential trap for a two-dimensional (2D) exciton polaritons in a cavity are discussed. We report the theory of BEC and of the trapped QW exciton polaritons in a microcavity. In addition, we study the BEC of trapped magnetoexciton polaritons in a graphene layer (GL) embedded in an optical microcavity in high magnetic field. In both cases the polaritons are considered to be in a harmonic potential trap. We compare the theoretical results with the existing experiments and discuss the experimental observation of predicted phenomena.  相似文献

We present a quantum-theoretical treatment of cavity linewidth narrowing with intracavity electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT). By means of intracavity EIT, the photons in the cavity are in the form of cavity polaritons:bright-state polariton and dark-state polariton. Strong coupling of the bright-state polariton to the excited state induces an effect known as vacuum Rabi splitting, whereas the dark-state polariton decoupled from the excited state induces a narrow cavity transmission window. Our analysis would provide a quantum theory of linewidth narrowing with a quantum field pulse.  相似文献

We investigate a double-Λ atomic ensemble trapped in a cavity and deduce the five species of polaritons. By analysing the analytic expression, we show the exchange of the two mode fields as well as frequency conversion. By studying the entanglement between the two mode fields, we exhibit the role of the five species of polaritons in entanglement creation. A three-level atom in a Λ configuration trapped in an optical cavity forms a basic unit in a number of proposed protocols for quantum information processing. This system allows for efficient storage of cavity photons into long-lived atomic excitations, and their retrieval with high fidelity, in an adiabatic transfer process through the ‘dark state’ by a slow variation of the control laser intensity. We study the full quantum mechanics of this transfer process with a view to examine the non-adiabatic effects arising from inevitable excitations of the system to states involving the upper level of Λ, which is radiative. We find that the fidelity of storage is better, the stronger the control field and the slower the rate of its switching off. On the contrary, unlike the adiabatic notion, retrieval is better with faster rates of switching on of an optimal control field. Also, for retrieval, the behaviour with dissipation is non-monotonic. These results lend themselves to experimental tests. Our exact computations, when applied to slow variations of the control intensity for strong atom–photon couplings, are in very good agreement with Berry’s superadiabatic transfer results without dissipation.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a scheme for transferring an unknown atomic entangled state via cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED). This scheme, which has a successful probability of 100 percent, does not require Bell-state measurement and performing any operations to reconstruct an initial state. Meanwhile, the scheme only involves atom--field interaction with a large detuning and does not require the transfer of quantum information between the atoms and cavity. Thus the scheme is insensitive to the cavity field states and cavity decay. This scheme can also be extended to transfer ring an entangled state of $n$-atom.  相似文献

We study the -atoms ensemble based quantum memory for the quantum information carried by a probe light field. Two atomic Rabi transitions of the ensemble are coupled to the quantum probe field and classical control field respectively with a same detuning. Our analysis shows that the dark states and dark-state polaritons can still exist for the present case of two-photon resonance EIT. Starting from these dark states we can construct a complete class of eigen-states of the total system. Quantum optics phenomena, including light absorbtion and atomic states entanglement, are discussed for carbon nanotubes doped with atoms (ions). It has been shown that, similar to semiconductor microcavities and photonic band-gap materials, carbon nanotubes may qualitatively change the character of the atom-electromagnetic-field interactions, yielding strong atom-field coupling regime with the formation of quasi-one-dimensional atomic polaritons. These may be observed experimentally via the effect of the absorption line splitting (Rabi splitting) in the frequency range close to the atomic transition frequency. A scheme for entangling atomic polaritons is investigated using the photon Green function formalism for quantizing electromagnetic fields in the presence of quasi-one-dimensional absorbing and dispersing media. Small-diameter metallic nanotubes are shown to result in sizable amounts of the two-qubit atomic entanglement with no damping for sufficiently long times, thus challenging novel applications of atomically doped carbon nanotubes in quantum information science. We present a new scheme of quantum memory for optical images (spatially multimode light fields) that allows mapping the quantum state of the signal onto the long-lived coherence of the ground state of an ensemble of stationary atoms or impurity centers. The memory medium is embedded in an optical cavity with degenerate transverse modes, which increases the effective optical thickness of the medium and allows one, in principle, to store information in optically thin atomic layers. Since, in reality, storage and retrieval of limited-duration signals, including signals shorter than the lifetime of the field in the cavity, is of interest, we do not use the low-Q cavity approximation. The influence of losses due to partial reflection of the nonstationary signal field incident on a coupling mirror on the storage efficiency is considered. We used the method of approximate impedance matching, wherein losses due to reflection can be minimized by controlling the coupling parameter of the light field with memory medium in time, thus creating conditions for destructive interference of the signal and local fields on the coupling mirror. The influence of diffraction on the transverse resolution of memory at the writing and readout stages is investigated, and the number of effectively stored transverse spatial modes of the signal is estimated.  相似文献
