A novel super-hydrophobic coating was prepared by chemical modification on the anodized aluminum alloy surface. The surface structure was characterized by water contact angle measurement, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the composition was measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The corrosion behavior of the super-hydrophobic coating was evaluated by the polarization curve and the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). It was found that the static water contact angle on the surface of super-hydrophobic coating was as high as 167.7 ± 1.2°, and the sliding angle was 5°. The super-hydrophobic coating resulted in excellent corrosion resistance property and the super-hydrophobic coating showed a good stability.  相似文献

Nano-structured polyurethane/organoclay composite films were fabricated by dispersing moisture-curable polyurethanes and fatty amine/amino-silane surface modified montmorillonite clay (organoclay) in cyclomethicone-in-water emulsions. Cyclomethicone Pickering emulsions were made by emulsifying decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5), dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6) and aminofunctional siloxane polymers with water using montmorillonite particles as emulsion stabilizers. Polyurethane and organoclay dispersed emulsions were spray coated on aluminum surfaces. Upon thermosetting, water repellent self-cleaning coatings were obtained with measured static water contact angles exceeding 155° and low contact angle hysteresis (<8°). Electron microscopy images of the coating surfaces revealed formation of self-similar hierarchical micro- and nano-scale surface structures. The surface morphology and the coating adhesion strength to aluminum substrates were found to be sensitive to the relative amounts of dispersed polyurethane and organoclay in the emulsions. The degree of superhydrophobicity was analyzed using static water contact angles as well as contact angle hysteresis measurements. Due to biocompatibility of cyclomethicones and polyurethane, developed coatings can be considered for specific bio-medical applications.  相似文献

Wetting characteristics of micro-nanorough substrates of aluminum and smooth silicon substrates have been studied and compared by depositing hydrocarbon and fluorinated-hydrocarbon coatings via plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) technique using a mixture of Ar, CH4 and C2F6 gases. The water contact angles on the hydrocarbon and fluorinated-hydrocarbon coatings deposited on silicon substrates were found to be 72° and 105°, respectively. However, the micro-nanorough aluminum substrates demonstrated superhydrophobic properties upon coatings with fluorinated-hydrocarbon providing a water contact angle of ∼165° and contact angle hysteresis below 2° with water drops rolling off from those surfaces while the same substrates showed contact angle of 135° with water drops sticking on those surfaces. The superhydrophobic properties is due to the high fluorine content in the fluorinated-hydrocarbon coatings of ∼36 at.%, as investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), by lowering the surface energy of the micro-nanorough aluminum substrates.  相似文献

An attempt was made to study the effect of plasma surface activation on the adhesion of UV-curable sol-gel coatings on polycarbonate (PC) and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) substrates. The sol was synthesized by the hydrolysis and condensation of a UV-curable silane in combination with Zr-n-propoxide. Coatings deposited by dip coating were cured using UV-radiation followed by thermal curing between 80 °C and 130 °C. The effect of plasma surface treatment on the wettability of the polymer surface prior to coating deposition was followed up by measuring the water contact angle. The water contact angle on the surface of as-cleaned substrates was 80° ± 2° and that after plasma treatment was 43° ± 1° and 50° ± 2° for PC and PMMA respectively. Adhesion as well as mechanical properties like scratch resistance and taber abrasion resistance were evaluated for coatings deposited over plasma treated and untreated surfaces.  相似文献

A superhydrophobic and icephobic surface were investigated on aluminum alloy substrate. Anodizing was used first to create a micro-nanostructured aluminum oxide underlayer on the alloy substrate. In a second step, the rough surface was coated with RF-sputtered polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE or Teflon®). Scanning electron microscopy images showed a “bird's nest”-like structure on the anodized surface. The RF-sputtered PTFE coating exhibited a high static contact angle of ∼165° with a very low contact angle hysteresis of ∼3°. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results showed high quantities of CF3 and CF2 groups, which are responsible for the hydrophobic behavior of the coatings. The performance of this superhydrophobic film was studied under atmospheric icing conditions. These results showed that on superhydrophobic surfaces ice-adhesion strength was 3.5 times lower than on the polished aluminum substrate.  相似文献

Control on the wettability of solid materials by liquid is a classical and key issue in surface engineering. Optically transparent water-repellent silica films have been spin-deposited on glass substrates at room temperature (∼27 °C). The wetting behavior of silica films was controlled by surface silylation method using dimethylchlorosilane (DMCS) as a silylating reagent. A coating sol was prepared by keeping the molar ratio of methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) precursor, methanol (MeOH) solvent, water (H2O) constant at 1:8.8:2.64 respectively, with 4 M NH4OH as a catalyst throughout the experiments and the amount of DMCS in hexane was varied from 0 to 12 vol.%. It was found that with an increase in vol.% of DMCS, the water contact angle values of the films increased from 78° to 136°. At 12 vol.% of DMCS, the film shows static water contact angle as high as 136° and water sliding angle as low as 18°. The hydrophobic silica films retained their water repellency up to a temperature 295 °C and above this temperature the films show superhydrophilic behavior. These results are compared with our earlier research work done on silylation of silica surface using hexamethyldisilazane (HMDZ) and trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS). The hydrophobic silica films were characterized by taking into consideration the Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, thermo gravimetric-differential thermal (TG-DT) analyses, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), % of optical transmission, thermal and chemical aging tests, humidity tests, static and dynamic water contact angle measurements.  相似文献

Hydrophobic properties are of interest in fabric and textile manufacture. We have used radio-frequency inductively coupled SF6plasma to modify the surface of Thai silk fabrics for the enhancement of the hydrophobic property. The water contact angle of fabrics increased from 0°up to 145°after SF6 plasma treatment. The measured water absorption time was found to depend upon the treatment time and RF power, for SF6 pressures lower than 0.05 Torr. At higher SF6 pressures, all samples achieved absorption times in excess of 200 min, regardless of the treatment time and RF power. The morphology changes of fabrics after plasma treatment were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. After plasma treatment, the RMS surface roughness of the fibres increased from about 10 to 30 nm. From X-ray photoelectron microscopy analysis, we found that the hydrophobicity of the fabrics is the highest when the fluorine/carbon ratio at the surface increases. A small decrease of the oxygen/carbon ratio was also observed on the fabrics that showed the longest absorption times.  相似文献

A superhydrophobic ZnO oriented nanorods coating on brocade substrate was prepared by a low-temperature wet chemical route, and the corresponding waterproof properties were evaluated. From wetting measurement, the modified brocades have a water contact angle of ∼152° and roll-off angle of 9° to a 10 μL water-droplet. A direct immersion of the modified brocades in water gives a strongly water-repellent behavior. The obtained waterproof brocades offer an opportunity for fabricating some special and protective drygoods.  相似文献

Low temperature process to prepare titanium oxide film on the surface of PET was investigated in this study. The substrates were pre-treated by oxygen plasma activated procedure, and then spin coating of Ti(OR)4 precursor solution was carried out to prepare Ti-containing organic films. Finally, O2 plasma was employed to decompose organic compounds and oxidize Ti to form oxides. Oxygen plasma post treatment can oxidize the organic compounds to form titanium oxide carbon subsequently. From the IR and ESCA analysis could be observed that -CH bond decreases and Ti-O, C-O bonds increase after O2 plasma treatment. Their surface hydrophilicity was enhanced by UV-irradiation, the degree of water contact angle decreased from 60° to 10°.  相似文献

Fluorination of polymer surfaces has technological applications in various fields such as microelectronics, biomaterials, textile, packing, etc. In this study PMMA surfaces were fluorinated using DC glow discharge plasma. Tetrafluoroethane was used as the fluorinating agent. On the fluorinated PMMA surface, static water contact angle, surface energy, optical transmittance (UV-vis), XPS and AFM analyses were carried out. After the fluorination PMMA surface becomes hydrophobic with water contact angle of 107° without losing optical transparency. Surface energy of fluorine plasma-treated PMMA decreased from 35 mJ/cm2 to 21.2 mJ/cm2. RMS roughness of the fluorinated surface was 4.01 nm and XPS studies revealed the formation of C-CFx and CF3 groups on the PMMA surface.  相似文献

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were modified by corona discharge and then heat treated in the air. The influences of corona discharge parameters such as treatment time and processing power were investigated. The results of energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) indicated the introduction of oxygen-containing functional groups onto the surface of the MWCNTs after heat treatment. The water contact angle tests showed that the hydrophobicity of the MWCNTs was decreased to some extent. The static water contact angle was reduced from 146° to 122° when the time of the corona discharge treatment reached 3 min at the processing power of 200 W. The enhanced thermomechanical and mechanical properties of epoxy nanocomposites filled with the corona discharge treated MWCNTs were observed. The modified MWCNTs conferred better properties on the composites than the pristine MWCNTs because of the improved dispersion of MWCNTs in matrix and the enhanced interfacial interaction between the treated MWCNTs and epoxy.  相似文献

Non-wettable surfaces with high contact angles and facile sliding angle of water droplets have received tremendous attention in recent years. The present paper describes the room temperature (∼27 °C) synthesis of dip coated water repellent silica coatings on glass substrates using iso-butyltrimethoxysilane (iso-BTMS) as a co-precursor. Emphasis is given to the influence of the hydrophobic reagent (iso-BTMS) on the water repellent properties of the silica films. Silica sol was prepared by keeping the molar ratio of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) precursor, methanol (MeOH) solvent, water (H2O) constant at 1:16.53:8.26 respectively, with 0.01 M NH4F throughout the experiment and the molar ratio of iso-BTMS/TEOS (M) was varied from 0 to 0.965. The effect of M on the surface structure and hydrophobicity has been researched. The static water contact angle values of the silica films increased from 65° to 140° and water sliding angle values decreased from 42° to 16° with an increase in the M value from 0 to 0.965. The water repellent silica films are thermally stable up to a temperature of 280 °C and above this temperature the film shows hydrophilic behavior. The water repellent silica films were characterized by the Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), % of optical transmission, thermal and chemical aging tests, humidity tests, static and dynamic water contact angle measurements.  相似文献

The effectiveness of improving the wettability of HDPE powders within less than 0.1 s by plasma surface modification in a Plasma Downer Reactor is investigated. A correlation is revealed between the XPS results (O/C-ratio) and the wettability (contact angle, polar surface tension by capillary rise method). The O2-content in the plasma feed gas has been adjusted for best wettability properties. XPS results indicate the formation of CO and COOH functional groups on the powder surface. The O/C-ratio increased from 0.0 (no oxygen on the non-treated powder) up to 0.15 for the plasma treated HDPE powder surface. With pure O2-plasma treatment, a water contact angle reduction from >90° (no water penetration into the untreated PE powder) down to 65° was achieved. The total surface free energy increased from 31.2 to 45 mN/m. Ageing of treated powders occurs and proceeds mostly within the first 7 days of storage. Contact angle measurements and O1s/O2s intensity ratio data support that ageing is mainly a diffusion-controlled process. Nevertheless, XPS results show the presence of oxygen functional groups even after 40 days, which explains why the powder is still dispersible in water without any addition of surfactants.  相似文献

Owing to excellent electric properties, silicone rubber (SIR) has been widely employed in outdoor insulator. For further improving its hydrophobicity and service life, the SIR samples are treated by CF4 radio frequency (RF) capacitively coupled plasma. The hydrophobic and oleophobic properties are characterized by static contact angle method. The surface morphology of modified SIR is observed by atom force microscope (AFM). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) is used to test the variation of the functional groups on the SIR surface due to the treatment by CF4 plasma. The results indicate that the static contact angle of SIR surface is improved from 100.7° to 150.2° via the CF4 plasma modification, and the super-hydrophobic surface of modified SIR, which the corresponding static contact angle is 150.2°, appears at RF power of 200 W for a 5 min treatment time. It is found that the super-hydrophobic surface ascribes to the coaction of the increase of roughness created by the ablation action and the formation of [-SiFx(CH3)2−x-O-]n (x = 1, 2) structure produced by F atoms replacement methyl groups reaction, more importantly, the formation of [-SiF2-O-]n structure is the major factor for super-hydrophobic surface, and it is different from the previous studies, which proposed the fluorocarbon species such as C-F, C-F2, C-F3, CF-CFn, and C-CFn, were largely introduced to the polymer surface and responsible for the formation of low surface energy.  相似文献

A novel approach was investigated to obtain the superhydrophobicity on surfaces of boron nitride films. In this method boron nitride films were deposited firstly on Si(1 0 0) and quartz substrate using a radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering system, and then using CF4 plasma treatment, the topmost surface area can be modified systematically. The results have shown that the water contact angle on such surfaces can be tuned from 67° to 159°. The films were observed to be uniform. The surfaces of films consist of micro-features, which were confirmed by Atomic Force Micrograph. The chemical bond states of the films were determined by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy, which indicate the dominance of B-N binding. According to the X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy analysis, the surface of film is mainly in BN phase. The micro-feature induced surface roughness is responsible for the observed superhydrophobic nature. The water contact angles measured on these surfaces can be modeled by the Cassie's formulation.  相似文献

Control on the wettability of solid state materials is a classical and key issue in surface engineering. Optically transparent methyltriethoxysilane (MTES)-based silica films with water sliding angle as low as 9° were successfully prepared by two-step sol-gel co-precursor method. The emphasis is given to the effect of trimethylethoxysilane (TMES) as a co-precursor on water sliding behavior of silica films. The coating sol was prepared with molar ratio of methyltriethoxysilane (MTES), methanol (MeOH), acidic water (0.01 M, oxalic acid) and basic water (12 M, NH4OH) kept constant at 1:12.73:3.58:3.58 respectively, and the molar ratio of TMES/MTES (M) was varied from 0 to 0.22. The static water contact angle as high as 120° and the water sliding angle as low as 9° was obtained by keeping the molar ratio (M) of TMES/MTES at 0.22. When the modified films were cured at temperature higher than 280 °C, the films became superhydrophilic. Further, the humidity study was carried out at a relative humidity of 90% at 30 °C over 60 days. We characterized the water repellent silica films by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), % of optical transmission, humidity tests and static and dynamic water contact angle (CA) measurements.  相似文献

A superhydrophobic surface originated from quincunx-shape composite particles was obtained by utilizing the encapsulation and graft of silica particles to control the surface chemistry and morphology of the hybrid film. The composite particles make the surface of film form a composite interface with irregular binary structure to trap air between the substrate surface and the liquid droplets which plays an essential role in obtaining high water contact angle and low water contact angle hysteresis. The water contact angle on the hybrid film is determined to be 154 ± 2° and the contact angle hysteresis is less than 5°. This is expected to be a simple and practical method for preparing self-cleaning hydrophobic surfaces on large area.  相似文献

For further prolonging the serve life of silicone rubber (SIR) for outdoor insulation and increasing its resistance of pollution flashover, surface modifications of SIR were carried out via CF4 capacitively coupled plasma at radio frequency (RF) power of 60, 100 and 200 W for a treatment time up to 20 min under CF4 flow rate of 20 sccm. Static contact angle measurement was employed to estimate the change of hydrophobicity of the modified SIR. The variation of the surface functional groups of the modified SIR was observed by attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectrum and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The surface topography was observed by atom force microscopy (AFM). The results indicate that the static contact angle of SIR surface is improved from 100.7° to 150.2° via the CF4 plasma modification, and the super-hydrophobic surface of modified SIR, which corresponds to a static contact angle of 150.2°, appears at RF power of 200 W for a 5-min treatment time. According to the results, it is suggested that the formation of super-hydrophobic surface is ascribed to the co-action of the increase of roughness created by the ablation reaction of CF4 plasma and the formation of [SiFx(CH3)2−xO]n (x = 1, 2) structure produced by the direct attachment of F atoms to Si.  相似文献

The graft polymerization of acrylic acid (AAc) was carried out onto poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) films that had been pretreated with remote argon plasma and subsequently exposed to oxygen to create peroxides. Peroxides are known to be the species responsible for initiating the graft polymerization when PTFE reacts with AAc. We chose different parameters of remote plasma treatment to get the optimum condition for introducing maximum peroxides (2.87 × 10−11 mol/cm2) on the surface. The influence of grafted reaction conditions on the grafting degree was investigated. The maximum grafting degree was 25.2 μg/cm2. The surface microstructures and compositions of the AAc grafted PTFE film were characterized with the water contact angle meter, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Contact angle measurements revealed that the water contact angle decreased from 108° to 41° and the surface free energy increased from 22.1 × 10−5 to 62.1 × 10−5 N cm−1 by the grafting of the AAc chains. The hydrophilicity of the PTFE film surface was greatly enhanced. The time-dependent activity of the grafted surface was better than that of the plasma treated film.  相似文献

A superhydrophobic surface was prepared by consecutive immersion in boiling water and sputtering of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE or Teflon®) on the surface of an aluminum alloy substrate. Immersion in boiling water was used to create a micro-nanostructure on the alloy substrate. Then, the rough surface was coated with RF-sputtered Teflon film. The immersion time in boiling water plays an important role in surface morphology and water repellency of the deposited Teflon coating. Scanning electron microscopy images showed a “flower-like” structure in first few minutes of immersion. And as the immersion time lengthened, a “cornflake” structure appeared. FTIR analyses of Teflon-like coating deposited on water treated aluminum alloy surfaces showed fluorinated groups, which effectively reduce surface energy. The Teflon-like coating deposited on a rough surface achieved with five-minute immersion in boiling water provided a high static contact angle (~164°) and low contact angle hysteresis (~4°).  相似文献
