The interaction of methanol with clean and oxygen-covered Pt(111) surfaces has been examined with high resolution electron loss spectroscopy (EELS) and thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS). On the clean Pt(111) surface, methanol dehydrogenated above 140 K to form adsorbed carbon monoxide and hydrogen. On a Pt(111)-p(2 × 2)O surface, methanol formed a methoxy species (CH3O) and adsorbed water. The methoxy species was unstable above 170 K and decomposed to form adsorbed CO and hydrogen. Above room temperature, hydrogen and carbon monoxide desorbed near 360 and 470 K, respectively. The instability of methanol and methoxy groups on the Pt surface is in agreement with the dehydrogenation reaction observed on W, Ru, Pd and Ni surfaces at low pressures. This is in contrast with the higher stability of methoxy groups on silver and copper surfaces, where decomposition to formaldehyde and hydrogen occurs. The hypothesis is proposed that metals with low heats of adsorption of CO and H2 (Ag, Cu) may selectively form formaldehyde via the methoxy intermediate, whereas other metals with high CO and H2 chemisorption heats rapidly dehydrogenate methoxy species below room temperature.  相似文献

The comparative chemistry of acetone adsorption on Pt(111) and Ru(001) has been studied by EELS. On the more easily oxidized Ru(001) surface, acetone bonded in a side-on, η2(O,C) configuration, whereas on the well-defined. close- packed regions of the Pt(111) surface acetone adopted a weak adduct-like, end-on, η1(O) configuration. On Pt(111), some η2(O,C) was also observed and associated with adsorption at low coordination accidental step sites.  相似文献

氢在GaAs和InP表面上的吸附可以用高分辨率电子能量损失谱(HREELS)来探测。Ga—H,As—H,In—H和P—H键的伸缩振动各自对应于不同的能量损失。但是As—H振动极容易和Ga—H振动追加声子损失相混淆,只有从损失峰的相对强度比较上来区别。实验得到吸附的氢与表面原子的成键情况取决于表面的原子结构及电子分布。对于GaAs(111)面,低暴露量时只形成Ga—H键,而高暴露量时还可以形成As—H键。而InP(111)表面由于是经过磷气氛退火处理的,在低暴露量下In—H与P—H键均可形成。InP(Ⅲ)面上只看到P—H损失峰,说明这个表面是完全以P原子结尾的。在(Ⅲ)面上出现小面的情形,则表面Ⅲ族和Ⅴ族原子均可同氢成键。 关键词:  相似文献

A first-principles study of adsorption and diffusion of OH on Pt and PtMo(111) surfaces is described. It confirms that the dissociation of water is much easier on PtMo than on pure Pt. Furthermore, we also found that OH binds most strongly at Mo atop site with adsorption energy of −3.32 eV, which is ∼1 eV stronger than binding to the pure Pt(111) surface. OH is much more localized on the PtMo alloy surface than on pure Pt. Both the stranger bond and the higher localization of OH contribute to the enhanced fuel cell performance with PtMo electrodes compared to pure Pt.  相似文献

氧原子在Pt表面的吸附和扩散是理解氧化和腐蚀等问题的基础.基于密度泛函理论和周期平板模型研究了氧原子在Pt(111)表面及次表层的吸附,通过扫描隧道显微镜(STM)的理论计算分析了吸附的结构特征.采用CI-NEB方法讨论了氧原子在Pt(111)表面和次表层的扩散过程.研究结果表明氧原子在Pt(111)表面的扩散比较容易,而氧原子向次表层的扩散相对较难,这主要是因为次表层的扩散需要经过一个Pt原子层,必须克服一定的能垒,从而说明过渡金属Pt具有很强的抗氧化性.  相似文献

The coadsorption of Li and H atoms on Pt(001), Pt(110) and Pt(111) surfaces is studied using density functional theory with generalised gradient approximation. In all calculations Li, H and the two topmost layers of the metal were allowed to relax. At coverage of 0.25 mono-layer in a p(2×2) unit cell, lithium adsorption at the hollow site for the three surfaces is favoured over top and bridge sites. The most favoured adsorption sites for H atom on the Pt(001) and Pt(110) surfaces are the top and bridge sites, while on Pt(111) surface the fcc site appears to be slightly favoured over the hcp site. The coadsorption of Li and atomic hydrogen shows that the interaction between the two adsorbates is stabilising when they are far from each other. The analysis of Li, H and Pt local density of states shows that Li strongly interacts with the Pt surfaces.  相似文献

Hydrocarbon phases from the thermal processing of low temperature adsorption of propene on Rh(111) and those from direct adsorption at particular temperatures were characterized by HREELS and were found to show differences. The phase from direct adsorption at room temperature contains CxH species and ethylidyne which shows a better bond breaking ability than the room temperature phase produced by thermal processing which contains ethylidyne, propylidyne and di-σ adsorbed propene. The use of the phase from direct adsorption at room temperature, especially the low coverage phase, in comparison with similarly prepared phases on Ru(001), Ir(111), Ni(111), Pd(111) and Pt(111) shows a correlation on bond breaking ability that agrees with Sinfelt's correlation of the hydrogenolysis activity of the group 7–10 metals. This suggests that the room temperature phase of an alkene on a surface can be used to predict the hydrogenolysis activity of that surface.  相似文献

Epitaxial layers of copper were formed on Pt(111) and Pt(553) single crystal surfaces by condensation of copper atoms from the vapor. Surface alloys were formed by diffusing the copper atoms into the platinum substrate at temperatures above 550 K. The activation energy for this process was found to be ~ 120 kJmol. These Pt/Cu surfaces were characterized by LEED, AES, and TDS of CO. The copper grows in islands on the Pt(111) surface and one monolayer is completed before another begins. There is an apparent repulsive interaction between the copper atoms and the step sites of the Pt(553) surface which causes a second layer of copper to begin forming before the first layer is complete. Epitaxial copper atoms block CO adsorption sites on the platinum surface without affecting the CO desorption energy. When the copper is alloyed with the platinum however, the energy of desorption of CO from the platinum was reduced by as much as 20 kJmol. This reduction in the desorption energy suggests an electronic modification that weakens the Pt-CO bond.  相似文献

The adsorption position of oxygen on the clean Pt(111) surface has been determined by means of the transmission channeling technique. Oxygen adsorbs in a well ordered p(2 × 2) overlayer structure at temperatures 200 T 350 K. From an analysis of the angular scans along the [111], [110] and [100] axial directions it is concluded that the O atoms are adsorbed in the fcc three-fold hollow site exclusively at a height of 0.85 ± 0.06 Å above the Pt surface layer. From a narrowing of the [111] angular O scan, the O RMS displacement parallel to the surface is found to be 0.16 ±0.03 Å.  相似文献

本文用电荷自洽的EHT方法,研究了H原子在Al(111)和Ag(111)面上的吸附,结果指出:在Al(111)面上,H以原子状态吸附在某些对称位置上,它也能渗透到表面层中去,成为填隙原子;H2分子在表面处发生解离吸附。在Ag(111)表面上,H原子有可能以分子状态吸附,H—H键平行于表面,这与高分辨率电子能量损失谱所得到的实验结果一致;但H2分子在Ag(111)表面也可能发生解离吸附。 关键词:  相似文献

Fourier transform infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (FT-IRAS) has been used to probe the non-dissociative adsorption of N2 on an atomically clean Pt(111) single crystal. In contradiction to a previous IRAS study of nitrogen adsorption on a Pt(111) foil at 120 K, no nitrogen infrared (IR) band was observed on a fully annealed Pt(111) surface at 90 K. Following Ar+ ion bombardment, adsorption of nitrogen at 90 K produces an intense IR band at 2222 cm−1 attributed to the N---N stretching mode of molecular nitrogen adsorbed on defect sites produced by ion bombardment. Annealing the Ar+ ion sputtered surface to a temperature above 750 K completely suppresses the adsorption of nitrogen at 90 K. Based on these and other results, we postulate that nitrogen adsorbs at 90 K mainly on monovacancies on platinum. We suggest that this specific adsorption occurs by sigma donation from nitrogen to the base of monovacancy sites which possess a low d-electron density compared to surface Pt atoms.  相似文献

We present a combined experimental (STM/scanning tunneling spectroscopy) and theoretical (density functional theory) study on the deposition of Au and Pd metal atoms on FeO/Pt(111) ultrathin films. We show that while the Pd atoms are only slightly oxidized, the Au atoms form positive ions upon deposition, at variance to a charge transfer into the Au atoms as observed for MgO/Ag(100). The modulation of the adsorption properties within the surface Moiré cell and the charging induce the formation a self-assembled array of gold adatoms on FeO/Pt(111), whereas Pd atoms are randomly distributed.  相似文献

Thermal desorption spectroscopy and LEED have been used to investigate the interaction of CO and hydrogen with a Pd0.75Cu0.25(111) single crystal surface with surface composition of about Pd0.7Cu0.3. The main objective was to make a comparison with the previously studied Pd0.67Ag0.33(111) (surface composition Pd0.1Ag0.9) and Pd(111) surfaces. In addition, the effect of preadsorbed H on subsequent CO dosage and the effect of adsorbed CO on postdosed hydrogen are described. Marked differences were found in the adsorption behaviour of the three surfaces towards CO and hydrogen. The maximum amount of H and CO that can be adsorbed at 250 K and pressures below 10−9 mbar is much lower on the PdCu surface than expected on the basis of the surface composition. This effect appears to be caused by a low heat of adsorption of hydrogen and CO and Pd singlet sites. Arguments are presented that singlet Pd sites or isolated Pd atoms in a Cu or Ag matrix are able to trap and dissociate the hydrogen molecule at 250 K. The CO desorption spectra are not influenced by pre- or postexposed hydrogen. Adsorbed CO hampers the uptake of hydrogen upon subsequent exposure to hydrogen. Postdosed CO causes adsorbed H adatoms to move to the bulk (adsorbed H). CO exposure at 250 K results in a very broad desorption plateau between 310 and 425 K with hardly discernable maxima. The results can be explained in terms of the size and relative concentration of the various Pd sites present on the surface (triplet, doublet and singlet sites). It can be concluded that for Pd (111) the heat of adsorption of both CO and H differ appreciably for the triplet, doublet and singlet sites. The effect of site has a larger contribution to the decrease of the heat of adsorption with coverage than the effect of lateral interaction in the adlayer. For Pd(111), PdCu(111) and PdAg(111) the effect of the available Pd sites is the major effect that determines the heat of adsorption, followed by the effect of lateral interaction and for the alloy surfaces the electronic or ligand effect.  相似文献

Using a linear optical diffraction technique, we have systematically investigated the defect effects on quantum surface diffusion of hydrogen on Pt(111) surfaces. The quantum tunneling effect was clearly observed for hydrogen diffusion at low temperatures as manifested by a leveling off of the diffusion coefficient on flat surfaces. The strong influence of surface defects on the quantum diffusion is in good agreement with the creation of an inhomogeneous surface with adsorption sites of different binding energies.  相似文献

The adsorption of L-alanine on Cu(111) surface is studied by means of scanning tunnelling microscopy under ultra-high vacuum conditions. The results show that the adsorbates are chemisorbed on the surface, and can form a two-dimensional gas phase, chain phase and solid phase, depending on deposition rate and amount. The adsorbed molecules can be imaged as individual protrusions and parallel chains in gas and chain phases respectively. It is also found that alanine can form (2 × 2) superstructure on Cu(111) and copper step facet to (110) directions in solid phase. On the basis of our scanning tunnelling microscopic images, a model is proposed for the Cu(111)(2 ×2)-alanine superstructure. In the model, we point out the close link between (110)-direction hydrogen bond chains with the same direction copper step faceting.  相似文献

First principles calculations for the coadsorption of hydrogen with sulphur and chlorine on Pd(111) are presented. Individually, both sulphur and chlorine poison hydrogen adsorption, sulphur being the more efficient poison. The observed sulphur poisoning is a structural effect. The adsorption energy decreases and the diffusion barrier increases for hydrogen atoms in the vicinity of sulphur adatoms. A sulphur coverage of 0.33 ML is sufficient to completely poison hydrogen adsorption on Pd(111). The presence of chlorine adatoms on the sulphur-poisoned surface is found to stabilise localised hydrogen adsorption. The possible promotional effects of chlorine on sulphur-poisoned catalysts are discussed.  相似文献

采用密度泛函理论和slab模型,研究NH3在Ni单原子层覆盖的Pt(111)和WC(001)表面上的物理与化学行为,计算了Ni单原子覆盖表面的电子结构以及NH3的吸附与分解.表面覆盖的单原子层中,Ni原子的性质与Ni(111)面上的Ni原子明显不同.与Ni(111)相比,Ni/Pt(111)和Ni/WC(001)表面上Ni原子dz2轨道上的电子更多地转移到了其它位置,该轨道上电荷密度降低有利于NH3吸附.在Ni/Pt(111)和Ni/WC(001)面上NH3吸附能均大于Ni(111),NH3分子第一个N-H键断裂的活化能则明显比Ni(111)面上低,有利于NH3的分解,吸附能增大使NH3在Ni/Pt(111)和Ni/WC(001)面上更倾向于分解,而不是脱附.N2分子的生成是NH3分解的速控步骤,该反应能垒较高,说明N2分子只有在较高温度下才能生成.WC与Pt性质相似,但Ni/Pt(111)和Ni/WC(001)的电子结构还是有差异的,与Ni(111)表面相比,NH3在Ni/Pt(111)表面上分解速控步骤的能垒降低,而在Ni/WC(001)上却升高.要获得活性好且便宜的催化剂,需要对Ni/WC(001)表面做进一步改进,降低N2分子生成步骤的活化能.  相似文献

The adsorption and reactions of ethylene adsorbed in UHV on Pt(111) have been studied as a function of temperature by STM. The STM images taken at 160K show an ordered structure of adsorbed ethylene. Annealing to 300 K produces ethylidyne (C-CH3) irreversibly, as has been demonstrated by a wide variety of surface science techniques. The ethylidyne on Pt(111) is not visible to the STM at room temperature. Cooling the sample allows direct observation of the ethylidyne ordered structure by STM. Annealing above 430 K results in further dehydrogenation, eventually leaving only carbon on the surface. The decomposition products appear as small clusters which are localized and uniformly distributed over the surface. Further annealing to temperatures >800 K results in the growth of graphite islands on the Pt(111) surface. The annealed graphite islands exhibit several supersturctures with lattice parameters of up to 22 Å, which are thought to result from the higher order commensurability with the Pt(111) substrate at different relative rotations.  相似文献

We investigate the adsorptions of Ar on Al (111) and Ir (111) surfaces at the four high symmetry sites, i.e., top, bridge, fcc- and hcp-hollow sites at the coverage of 0.25 monolayer (ML) using the density functional theory within the generalized gradient approximation of Perdew, Burke and Ernzerhof functions. The geometric structures, the binding energies, the electronic properties of argon atoms adsorbed on Al (111) and Ir (111) surfaces, the difference in electron density between on the Al (111) surface and on the Ir (111) surface and the total density of states are calculated. Our studies indicate that the most stable adsorption site of Ar on the Al (111) surface is found to be the fcc-hollow site for the (2 × 2) structure. The corresponding binding energy of an argon atom at this site is 0.538 eV/Ar atom at a coverage of 0.25 ML. For the Ar adsorption on Ir (111) surface at the same coverage, the most favourable site is the hcp-hollow site, with a corresponding binding energy of 0.493 eV. The total density of states (TDOS) is analysed for Ar adsorption on Al (111) surface and it is concluded that the adsorption behaviour is dominated by the interaction between 3s, 3p orbits of Ar atom and the 3p orbit of the base Al metal and the formation of sp hybrid orbital. For Ar adsorption on Ir (111) surface, the conclusion is that the main interaction in the process of Ar adsorption on Ir (111) surface comes from the 3s and 3p orbits of argon atom and 5d orbit of Ir atom.  相似文献
