In this paper, the effect of hydrostatic pressure on both the intersubband optical absorption coefficients and the refractive index changes is studied for typical GaAs/Al x  Ga1?x As cubic quantum dot. We use analytical expressions for the linear and third-order nonlinear intersubband absorption coefficients and refractive index changes obtained by the compact-density matrix formalism. The linear, third-order nonlinear, and total intersubband absorption coefficients and refractive index changes are calculated at different pressures as a function of the photon energy with known values of box length (L), the incident optical intensity (I), and Al concentration (x). According to the results obtained from the present work, we have found that the pressure plays an important role in the intersubband optical absorption coefficient and refractive index changes in a cubic quantum dot.  相似文献

Simultaneous effects of an on-center hydrogenic impurity and band edge non-parabolicity on intersubband optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes of a typical GaAs/Al x Ga 1 x As spherical quantum dot are theoretically investigated, using the Luttinger-Kohn effective mass equation. So,electronic structure and optical properties of the system are studied by means of the matrix diagonalization technique and compact density matrix approach, respectively. Finally, effects of an impurity, band edge non-parabolicity,incident light intensity and the dot size on the linear, the third-order nonlinear and the total optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes are investigated. Our results indicate that, the magnitudes of these optical quantities increase and their peaks shift to higher energies as the influences of the impurity and the band edge non-parabolicity are considered. Moreover, incident light intensity and the dot size have considerable effects on the optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes.  相似文献

The combined effects of hydrostatic pressure, presence and absence of hydrogenic donor impurity are investigated on the linear and nonlinear optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes of a GaAs/Ga1−xAlxAs nanowire superlattice. The wave functions and corresponding eigenvalues are calculated using finite difference method in the framework of effective mass approximation. Analytical expressions for the linear and third order nonlinear optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes are obtained by means of compact-density matrix formalism. The linear and third order nonlinear absorption coefficient and refractive index changes are presented as a function of photon energy for different values of hydrostatic pressure, incident photon intensity and relaxation time in the presence and absence of hydrogenic donor impurity. It is found that the linear and third order nonlinear absorption coefficients, refractive index changes and resonance energy are quite sensitive to the presence of impurity and applied hydrostatic pressure. Moreover, the saturation in optical spectrum and relaxation time can be adjusted by increasing pressure in presence of impurity whereas the effect of hydrostatic pressure is negligible in the case of absence of hydrogenic impurity.  相似文献

In this work, both the intersubband optical absorption coefficients and the refractive index changes are calculated exactly in a quantum box. Analytical expressions for the linear and nonlinear intersubband absorption coefficients and refractive index changes are obtained by using the compact-density matrix approach. Numerical results are presented for typical GaAs/AlxGa1−x As quantum box system. The linear, third-order nonlinear and total absorption and refractive index changes are investigated as a function of the incident optical intensity and structure parameters such as box-edge length and stoichiometric ratio. Our results show that both the incident optical intensity and the structure parameters have a great effect on the total absorption and refractive index changes.  相似文献

In the present work, the changes in the intersubband optical absorption coefficients and the refractive index in a modulation-doped quantum well have been investigated theoretically. Within the envelope function approach and the effective mass approximation, the electronic structure of the quantum well is calculated from the self-consistent numerical solution of the coupled Schrödinger-Poisson equations. The analytical expressions of optical properties are obtained by using the compact density-matrix approach. The numerical results GaAs/AlxGa1−xAs are presented for typical modulation-doped quantum well system. The linear, third-order nonlinear and total absorption and refractive index changes depending on the doping concentration are investigated as a function of the incident optical intensity and structure parameters, such as quantum well width and stoichiometric ratio. The results show that the doping concentration, the structure parameters and the incident optical intensity have a great effect on the optical characteristics of these structures.  相似文献

Electric field, hydrostatic pressure and conduction band non-parabolicity effects on the binding energies of the lower-lying states and the diamagnetic susceptibility of an on-center hydrogenic impurity confined in a typical GaAs/AlxGa1−xAs spherical quantum dot is theoretically investigated, by direct diagonalization of the Hamiltonian. To this end, the effect of band non-parabolicity has been performed, by means of the Luttinger-Kohn effective mass equation. Binding energies and diamagnetic susceptibility of the hydrogenic impurity are computed as a function of the dot size, external electric field strength and hydrostatic pressure, with considering the edge-band non-parabolicity. Results show that the external electric field and the hydrostatic pressure have an obvious influence on the binding energies and the diamagnetic susceptibility of the impurity.  相似文献

The effect of electric field on the binding energy, interband emission energy and the non-linear optical properties of exciton as a function of dot radius in an InSb/InGaxSb1?x quantum dot are investigated. Numerical calculations are carried out using single band effective mass approximation variationally to compute the exciton binding energy and optical properties are obtained using the compact density matrix approach. The dependence of the nonlinear optical processes on the dot sizes is investigated for various electric field strength. The linear, third order non-linear optical absorption coefficients, susceptibility values and the refractive index changes of electric field induced exciton as a function of photon energy are obtained. It is found that electric field and the geometrical confinement have great influence on the optical properties of dots.  相似文献

The optical refractive index changes and absorption coefficients of quantum wells (QWs) are theoretically investigated with considering exciton effects within the framework of the fractional-dimensional space approach. The exciton wave functions and bound energies are obtained as a function of spatial dimensionality, and the dimension increases with the well width increasing. Then optical properties are obtained by using the compact-density matrix approach and an iterative method. Numerical results are presented for wurtzite ZnO/MgxZn1−xO QWs. The calculated results show that the changes of refractive index and absorption coefficients are greatly enhanced due to the quantum confinement of exciton. And the smaller the QW width (dimension) is, the larger influence of exciton on the optical properties will be. Furthermore, the exciton effects make the resonant peaks move to a lower energy. In addition, the optical properties are related to the QW width, the incident optical intensity and carrier density.  相似文献

The present paper reports the effect of Bi addition on the optical behavior (optical band gap and refractive index) of Ge20Te80?x Bi x (where x=0, 1.5, 2.5, 5.0) glassy alloys by analyzing the transmission and reflection spectra of their thin films in the 900–2400 nm range. Films are deposited on glass substrate using a thermal evaporation technique under vacuum. Various optical parameters viz. refractive index, extinction coefficient, absorption coefficient, optical band gap, etc. are determined and the effect of Bi incorporation on these parameters is studied. The refractive index has been found to increase with increasing Bi content over the entire spectral range and this behavior is due to the increased polarizability of the larger Bi atomic radius (1.46 Å) compared to Te atomic radius (1.36 Å). Dispersion energy, E d , average energy gap, E 0 and static refractive index, n 0 is calculated using Wemple–DiDomenico model. Optical band gap is estimated using Tauc’s extrapolation and is found to decrease from 0.86 to 0.73 eV with the Bi addition. This behavior of the optical band gap is interpreted in terms of the electronegativity difference of the atoms involved and the cohesive energy of the system.  相似文献

The linear and the third-order nonlinear optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes in a modulation-doped asymmetric double quantum well are studied theoretically. The electron energy levels and the envelope wave functions in this structure are calculated by the Schrödinger and Poisson equations self-consistently in the effective mass approximation. The analytical expressions of optical properties are obtained by using the compact density-matrix approach. In this regard, the linear, nonlinear and total intersubband absorption coefficients and refractive index changes are investigated as a function of right-well width (Lw2) of asymmetric double quantum well. Our results show that the total absorption coefficients and refractive index changes shift toward higher energies as the right-well width decreases. In addition, the total optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes is strongly dependent on the incident optical intensity.  相似文献

Anisotropy of the refractive index and electro-optical effect in Tl1–xAgxGaSe2 crystals (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.025) is studied. It is shown that the refractive indices increase as they approach the intrinsic absorption band. It is established that when light and an external electric field are directed along a selected c crystallographic axis, the electro-optical effect is quadratic; if the field is oriented perpendicular to the c axis and light propagates along the latter, the electro-optical effect is linear.  相似文献

(Na1−xKx)0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (NKBT) (x = 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3) thin films with good surface morphology and rhombohedral perovskite structure were fabricated on quartz substrates by a sol-gel process. The fundamental optical constants (the band gaps, linear refractive indices and absorption coefficients) of the films were obtained through optical transmittance measurements. The nonlinear optical properties were investigated by Z-scan technique performed at 532 nm with a picosecond laser. A two-photon absorption effect closely related with potassium-doping content was found in thin films, and the nonlinear refractive index n2 increases evidently with potassium-doping. The real part of the third-order nonlinear susceptibility χ(3) is much larger than its imaginary part, indicating that the third-order optical nonlinear response of the NKBT films is dominated by the optical nonlinear refractive behavior. These results show that NKBT thin films have potential applications in nonlinear optics.  相似文献

Chalcogenide glasses are interesting materials due to their infrared transmitting properties and photo induced effects exhibited by them. Thin films with thickness of 3000 Å of the glasses Se75S25−xCdx with x=6, 8 and 10 at% prepared by melt quench technique were evaporated by thermal evaporation onto glass substrates under a vacuum of 10−6 Torr. The optical constants (absorption coefficient, refractive index and extinction coefficient) of as-prepared and annealed films have been studied as a function of photon energy in the wave length region 400-1000 nm. Analysis of the optical absorption data shows that the rule of non-direct transitions predominates. It has been found that the absorption coefficient and optical band gap increase with increasing annealing temperatures. The refractive index (n) and the extinction coefficient (k) were observed to decrease with increasing annealing temperature.  相似文献

The effect of conduction band nonparabolicity on the linear and nonlinear optical properties such as absorption coefficients, and changes in the refractive index are calculated in the Al0.3Ga0.7As/GaAs heterostructure-based symmetric rectangular quantum well under applied hydrostatic pressure and electric field. The electron envelope functions and energies are calculated in the effective mass equation including the conduction band nonparabolicity. The linear and nonlinear optical properties have been calculated in the density matrix formalism with two-level approximation. The conduction band nonparabolicity shifts the positions of the optical properties and decreases their strength compared to those without this correction. Both the optical properties are enhanced with the applied hydrostatic pressure. While the absorption coefficients are bleached under the combined effect of high pressure and electric field, the bleaching effect is reduced when nonparabolicity is included.  相似文献

In this paper, the effects of hydrostatic pressure, temperature and intense laser field on the linear and nonlinear optical processes in the conduction band of a square quantum well are numerically investigated in the effective mass approximation. The analytical expressions of optical properties are obtained by using the compact density-matrix approach. The numerical results are presented for typical square GaAs/AlxGa1?xAs single quantum well system. The nonlinear optical absorption and refractive index changes depending on the hydrostatic pressure and intense laser field are investigated for two different temperature values. The results show that the intense laser field, the hydrostatic pressure and the temperature have a significant effect on the optical characteristics of these structures.  相似文献

Binding energy, interband emission energy and the non-linear optical properties of exciton in an InSb/InGaxSb1−x quantum dot are computed as functions of dot radius and the Ga content. Optical properties are obtained using the compact density matrix approach. The dependence of non-linear optical processes on the dot sizes is investigated for different Ga concentrations. The linear, third order non-linear optical absorption coefficients, susceptibility values and the refractive index changes of the exciton are calculated for different concentrations of gallium content. It is found that gallium concentration has great influence on the optical properties of InSb/InGaxSb1−x dots.  相似文献

Different compositions of GexAs10Te90−x (x=5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 at%) chalcogenide glasses were prepared by the usual melt quench technique. Amorphous GexAs10Te90−x thin films were deposited onto cleaned glass substrates using the thermal evaporation method. Transmission spectra, T(λ), of the films at normal incidence were measured in the wavelength range 400-2500 nm. A straightforward analysis proposed by Swanepoel based on the use of the maxima and minima of the interference fringes has been used to drive the film thickness, d, the complex index of refraction, n, and the extinction coefficient, k. It was found that, the addition of Ge content at the expense of Te atoms shifts the optical band gap to the short wavelength side (blue shift of the optical band gap) while the refractive index are found to decreases. The obtained results of the refractive index were discussed in terms of the electronic polarizability and the single-oscillator Wemple and DiDomenico model (WDD). The optical absorption is due to the allowed non-direct optical transitions. The observed increase in the optical band gap with the increase in Ge content was discussed in terms of the width of the tail states in the gap and the covalent bond approach.  相似文献

Glasses with compositions 25Li2O-(75−x)Bi2O3-x B2O3, with 0?x?30 mol%, have been prepared using the melt quenching technique. The density and the molar volume have been determined. IR spectroscopy is used as a structural probe of the nearest neighbor environment in the glass network. The optical transmittance and reflectance spectrum of the glasses have been recorded in the wavelength range 400-1100 nm. The values of the optical band gap Egopt for indirect transition and refractive index have been determined for 0?x?30 mol%. The average electronic polarizability of the oxide ion αo2− and the optical basicity have been estimated from the calculated values of the refractive indices. Variations in the different physical parameters such as the density, molar volume, optical band gap, refractive index, average electronic polarizability of the oxide ion and optical basicity with B2O3 content have been analyzed and discussed in terms of the changes in the glass structure.  相似文献

Amorphous As x Se70Te30?x thin films with (0≤x≤30 at.%) were deposited onto glass substrates by using thermal evaporation method. The transmission spectra T(λ) of the films at normal incidence were measured in the wavelength range 400–2500 nm. A straightforward analysis proposed by Swanepoel based on the use of the maxima and minima of the interference fringes has been used to drive the film thickness, d, the complex index of refraction, n, and the extinction coefficient, k. The dispersion of the refractive index is discussed in terms of the single-oscillator Wemple and DiDomenico model (WDD). Increasing As content is found to affect the refractive index and the extinction coefficient of the As x Se70Te30?x films. With increasing As content the optical band gap increases while the refractive index decreases. The optical absorption is due to allowed indirect transition. The chemical bond approach has been applied successfully to interpret the increase of the optical gap with increasing As content.  相似文献
