Free-radical copolymerization of methyl methacrylate with methyl α-p-chlorobenzylacrylate and methyl methacrylate with methyl α-p-methoxybenzylacrylate have been studied in benzene solution at 40°C. Although a simple copolymerization model fits the composition data, the kinetic behavior of both copolymerization systems are analyzed from simple and reversible copolymerization models, taking into account the relatively low ceiling temperature of both methyl α-(p-substituted benzyl)acrylates and considering that the overall rate of copolymerization drastically decreases with the increase of the corresponding methyl α-(p-substituted benzyl)acrylate molar fraction in the feed.  相似文献

Copolymerization of binary mixtures of alkyl (meth)acrylates has been initiated in toluene by a mixed complex of lithium silanolate  (s-BuMe2SiOLi) and s-BuLi (molar ratio > 21) formed in situ by reaction of s-BuLi with hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane (D3). Fully acrylate and methacrylate copolymers, i.e., poly(methyl acrylate-co-n-butyl acrylate), poly(methyl methacrylate-co-ethyl methacrylate), poly(methyl methacrylate-co-n-butyl methacrylate), poly(methyl methacrylate-co-n-butyl methacrylate), poly(isobornyl methacrylate-co-n-butyl methacrylate), poly(isobornyl methacrylate-co-n-butyl methacrylate) of a rather narrow molecular weight distribution have been synthesized. However, copolymerization of alkyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate pairs has completely failed, leading to the selective formation of homopoly(acrylate). As result of the isotactic stereoregulation of the alkyl methacrylate polymerization by the s-BuLi/s-BuMe2SiOLi initiator, highly isotactic random and block copolymers of (alkyl) methacrylates have been prepared and their thermal behavior analyzed. The structure of isotactic poly(ethyl methacrylate-co-methyl methacrylate) copolymers has been analyzed in more detail by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Bisbenzimidazole copper dichloride complexes (CuBBIMs), when activated with methylaluminoxane, catalyze the random copolymerization of ethylene with acrylates to produce highly linear functional copolymers. To probe the sensitivity of the copolymerization to the catalyst structure, a series of CuBBIM catalysts with various steric, electronic, and geometric ligand characteristics was prepared, including CuBBIMs having benzimidazole ring substituents and ligand backbones of various lengths. Four different acrylates were also evaluated as comonomers (t‐butyl acrylate, methyl acrylate, t‐butyl methacrylate, and methyl methacrylate). Although no obvious ligand‐based influences on copolymerization were identified, the structure of the acrylate comonomer was found to exert significant effects. Copolymers prepared with t‐butyl methacrylate comonomer exhibited the highest ethylene contents (31–63%), whereas those prepared with methyl acrylate contained only minor amounts of ethylene (<15%). Copolymerizations carried out at lowered acrylate feed levels generally had increased ethylene contents but showed smaller yields, lowered molecular weights, and increased branching. Unusual ketoester structures were also observed in the methyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate containing copolymers, suggesting that the acrylate ester group size may be an important controlling factor for copolymerization. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The organometallic monomers styrenetricarbonylchromium and p‐methylstyrenetricarbonylchromium were copolymerized in ethyl acetate solutions with methyl methacrylate and butyl acrylate using azobisisobutyronitrile at 50 °C and a binary system including di‐tert‐butylperoxytriphenylantimony at 30 °C as the free‐radical initiators. Comonomers are proposed to form a molecular complex based on the results of ultraviolet and electron spin resonance spectroscopy. A kinetic study shows that chromium‐containing monomers at high concentrations in the mixture reduce the rate of copolymerization. The addition of styrenetricarbonylchromium to butyl acrylate significantly slows down the autoacceleration. The reactivity ratios of the comonomer pairs, namely, styrenetricarbonylchromium–methyl methacrylate, styrenetricarbonylchromium–butyl acrylate and p‐methylstyrenetricarbonylchromium–methyl methacrylate, were determined using the method of Kelen–Tudos for low conversion polymerizations.Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Free-radical copolymerization of methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, and methyl methacrylate with 9-vinylanthracene was studied, and the reactivity ratios r 1 and r2 were calculated. In the light of earlier data on copolymerization of 9-vinylanthracene with styrene results show that the difference in polarity of the monomers participating in the copolymerization has an insignificant influence compared with that of the steric factors involved in the reaction.  相似文献

The mode of termination in the vinyl acetate–isobutyl methacrylate (VA–IBMA) and methyl methacrylate–methyl acrylate (MMA–MA) copolymerization systems has been investigated at 60°C. by using the dye-interaction technique for functional endgroup estimation. The results show that pairs of poly(vinyl acetate) radicals interact almost exclusively through a disproportionation mechanism. In the homopolymerization of methyl methacrylate and methyl acrylate, about 1.16 and 1.22 carboxyl-containing endgroups per polymer molecule have been estimated, which shows the predominance of disproportionation over combination in these termination reactions. In poly(isobutyl methacrylate) about 1.55 tagged initiator fragments per chain indicate that 29% of the total radicals terminate through the disproportionation mechanism. Cross termination in the (VA–IBMA) copolymerization system occurs almost entirely through combination for monomer feeds richer in isobutyl methacrylate content while for the MMA–MA system, combination is more important at intermediate monomer feed ratios. These results have been discussed in the light of different explanations for the reaction mechanism.  相似文献

Free radical copolymerization of styrene/methyl methacrylate (S/MMA) and butyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate (BA/MMA) in the presence of n-dodecanthiol (DDT) has been studied at 60°C in a 3 mol/L benzene solution using 2,2′-azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN) as initiator. Overall chain transfer constant to DDT has been determined for both copolymerization systems, as a function of monomer feed composition using complete molecular weight distribution and the Mayo method. Overall transfer coefficients have values which are dependent on both monomer feed composition and individual comonomer transfer values. Composition, sequence distribution, and stereoregularity of copolymers obtained are, in our experimental conditions, independent of copolymer molecular weight. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. An approach for monitoring both the overall conversion and the cumulative copolymer composition in emulsion copolymerization systems via calorimetric measurements was developed. The approach was checked by carrying out batch emulsion copolymerizations of methyl methacrylate/n-butyl acrylate, n-butyl acrylate/vinyl acetate, and methyl methacrylate/vinyl acetate and comparing calorimetric based estimations with off-line determinations of both the overall conversion and the cumulative copolymer composition. The course and kinetics of the isothermal bulk polymerization of ethyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, and methyl methacrylate and their copolymerization in different mol ratios were studied by differential scanning calorimetry at 363 K. The initiator used was 2,2′-azoisobutyronitrile. The kinetics of radical polymerization of phenyl, ortho-chlorophenyl, and para-chlorophenyl acrylates, as well as their copolymerization with methyl methacrylate, have been studied dilatometrically. The results obtained indicate that the overall rate of polymerization is affected by the flexibility of the growing radicals. However, the copolymerization of these monomers with methyl methacrylate gives overall rates rather similar for all three systems, being fundamentally regulated by the formation of reversible π complexes between the donor aromatic rings and the acceptor methacrylic double bonds. Dilatometric methods for the study of the copolymerization reactions have been tested and the corresponding binary bonding frequencies Bij and conversion factors Kij have been calculated for the copolymerization of ortho- and para-chlorophenyl acrylates with methyl methacrylate.  相似文献

Monomer reactivity ratios and copolymerization parameters were determined for n-octadecyl acrylate and N-n-octadecylacrylamide with several monomers not previously reported. Values of Q and e for the long-chain acrylate now agreed more closely than before with the average of values for the lower acrylate homologs. The average polarity parameter for N-n-octadecylacrylamide still showed more electron withdrawal from the double bond (e = 0.42) than was expressed by the average literature value (e = ?0.10) for N-n-octylacrylamide. Because penultimate effects were absent in this work, the reason for the discrepancy seems to reside in the copolymer analysis. Reactivity ratios for oleyl and octadecyl acrylate with methyl methacrylate were similar. Coefficients for the relation between overall rates of copolymerization and composition were obtained on some systems by curve fitting with a computer. Using our Monte Carlo model of binary copolymerization, one studies the sequence distribution in methyl methacrylate/chloroprene and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate/alkyl acrylate copolymers. Our study points out incontestably that the copolymerization of methyl methacrylate is explainable through ultimate group effect (Ebdon has stated a penultimate group effect). In the case of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate/alkyl acrylate copolymers the agreement between computed and experimental data is satisfactory.  相似文献

Isotactic polypropylene-based graft copolymers linking poly(methyl methacrylate), poly(n-butyl acrylate) and polystyrene were successfully synthesized by a controlled radical polymerization with isotactic polypropylene (iPP) macroinitiator. The hydroxylated iPP, prepared by propylene/10-undecen-1-ol copolymerization with a metallocene/methyl-aluminoxane/triisobutylaluminum catalyst system, was treated with 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide to produce a Br-group containing iPP (PP-g-Br). The resulting PP-g-Br could initiate controlled radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate, n-butyl acrylate and styrene by using a copper catalyst system, leading to a variety of iPP-based graft copolymers with a different content of the corresponding polar segment. These graft copolymers demonstrated unique mechanical properties dependent upon the kind and content of the grafted polar segment.  相似文献

Radical copolymerization of 2,2-diallyl-1,1,3,3-tetraethylguanidinium chloride with methyl methacrylate and allyl methacrylate in the bulk and methanol solution in the presence of azobis-isobutyric acid dinitryle at 70–90°C has been studied. Copolymerization of 2,2-diallyl-1,1,3,3-tetraethylguanidinium chloride with methyl methacrylate or allyl methacrylate in the bulk proceeds with formation of random copolymers enriched in methacrylate units; in the copolymerization of 2,2-diallyl-1,1,3,3-tetraethylguanidiny chloride with methyl methacrylate in methanol, the copolymerization constants of the monomers become close. The kinetic parameters of the reaction have been studied, the relative activities of the monomers have been determined. It has been found that 2,2-diallyl-1,1,3,3-tetraethylguanidinium chloride is copolymerized with allyl methacrylate or methylmethacrylate to form pyrrolidinium structures in the cyclolinear polymer chain. At high degrees of conversion of the copolymerization of 2,2-diallyl-1,1,3,3-tetraethylguanidinium chloride with allyl methacrylate, the viscosity increases and the side polymer chains are crosslinked by “allyl bonds” to form insoluble copolymers, swelling in benzene and DMSO.  相似文献
