We show that finite amplitude shearing motions superimposed on an unsteady simple extension are admissible in any incompressible isotropic elastic material. We show that the determining equations for these shearing motions admit a general reduction to a system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) in the remarkable case of generalized circularly polarized transverse waves. When these waves are standing and the underlying unsteady simple extension is composed of a harmonic perturbation of a static stretch it is possible to reduce the determining ODEs to linear or non-linear Mathieu equations. We use this property for a detailed study of the phenomenon of parametric resonance in non-linear elastodynamics.  相似文献

This investigation studies possible mechanisms by which localised disturbances in a vertically oscillating long channel undergo transition to instability. Modulated cross-waves with a carrier frequency close to natural are considered. The channel is subjected to oscillations with the frequency shifted slightly below twice the natural value. The waves are considered to be described by the Miles equation (Miles, 1984). We report here numerical investigations of the instability of various solitary wave disturbances for a range of controlling parameters. Certain mechanisms describing such transitions have been predicted theoretically by Il'ichev (1998).  相似文献

A non-linear two degrees of freedom dynamical system subjected to parametric excitation is studied. The relationship between the parametric frequency and the natural frequencies of the system are such that the first generalized coordinate is excited into parametric resonance while both generalized coordinates are excited into combination resonance at the same time. The unstable zone and response of the system under multi-resonant condition are then compared with the unstable zones and responses of the system where each type of resonance is treated on an individual basis, assuming the other type of resonance does not occur.  相似文献

The phenomena of the almost-periodic response, called combination type resonance, is analyzed in two-degree-of-freedom dissipative, non-linear systems subject to sinusoidal excitation. The problem is solved theoretically by means of the modified “small parameter technique” as well as by means of the Ritz-Galerkin method. The results are then compared and checked against an analog computer analysis. Conclusions are drawn about a range of applicability of the two methods. The theoretical investigations are completed by solving the stability problem for both methods.

The results indicate that the phenomenon of the combination resonance might occur in wide regions of initial conditions, since one of the phase angle proves to be arbitrary.  相似文献

A numerical method, based on the invariant manifold approach, is presented for constructing non-linear normal modes for systems with internal resonances. In order to parameterize the non-linear normal modes of interest, multiple pairs of system state variables involved in the internal resonance are kept as ‘seeds’ for the construction of the multi-mode invariant manifold. All the remaining degrees of freedom are then constrained to these ‘seed’, or master, variables, resulting in a system of non-linear partial differential equations that govern the constraint relationships, and these are solved numerically. The computationally-intensive solution procedure uses a combination of finite difference schemes and Galerkin-based expansion approaches. It is illustrated using two examples, both of which focus on the construction of two-mode models. The first example is based on the analysis of a simple three-degree-of-freedom example system, and is used to demonstrate the approach. An invariant manifold that captures two non-linear normal modes is constructed, resulting in a reduced order model that accurately captures the system dynamics. The methodology is then applied to a larger order system, specifically, an 18-degree-of-freedom rotating beam model that features a three-to-one internal resonance between the first two flapping modes. The accuracy of the non-linear two-mode reduced order model is verified by comparing time-domain simulations of the two DOF model and the full system equations of motion.  相似文献

Vibration of a finite Euler–Bernoulli beam, supported by non-linear viscoelastic foundation traversed by a moving load, is studied and the Galerkin method is used to discretize the non-linear partial differential equation of motion. Subsequently, the solution is obtained for different harmonics using the Multiple Scales Method (MSM) as one of the perturbation techniques. Free vibration of a beam on non-linear foundation is investigated and the effects of damping and non-linear stiffness of the foundation on the responses are examined. Internal-external resonance condition is then stated and the frequency responses of different harmonics are obtained by MSM. Different conditions of the external resonance are studied and a parametric study is carried out for each case. The effects of damping and non-linear stiffness of the foundation as well as the magnitude of the moving load on the frequency responses are investigated. Finally, a thorough local stability analysis is performed on the system.  相似文献

A method of obtaining a full three-dimensional non-linear Hadamard stability analysis of inhomogeneous deformations of arbitrary, unconstrained, hyperelastic materials is presented. The analysis is an extension of that given by Chen and Haughton (Proc. Roy. Soc. London A 459 (2003) 137) for two-dimensional incompressible problems. The process that we present replaces the second variation condition expressed as an integral involving a quadratic in three arbitrary perturbations, with an equivalent sixth-order system of ordinary differential equations. The positive definiteness condition is thereby reduced to the simple numerical evaluation of zeros of a well-behaved function. The general theory is illustrated by applying it to the problem of the inflation of a thick-walled spherical shell. The present analysis provides a simpler alternative approach to bifurcation problems approached by using the incremental equations of non-linear elasticity.  相似文献

The method of multiple time scales is used to study the non-linear oscillations of impulsively forced systems under conditions of internal resonance. A partial analytical solution is obtained. The method is illustrated by an example in which the internal resonance effects are shown to be significant.  相似文献

The non-linear interaction of the in-plane and out-of-plane motions of a suspended cable in the neighbourhood of 2:1 internal resonance under random loading is studied. The random loading acts externally on the in-plane mode, while the out-of-plane mode is non-linearly coupled with the in-plane mode. Any non-trivial motion of the out-of-plane mode is mainly due to this non-linear coupling, which becomes significant in the neighbourhood of internal resonance. The response statistics are estimated by employing the Fokker-Planck equation together with Gaussian and non-Gaussian closures. Monte-Carlo simulation is also used for numerical verification. Away from the internal resonance condition, the response is governed by the inplane motion, and the non-Gaussian closure solution is found to be in good agreement with numerical simulation results. The stochastic bifurcation of the out-of-plane mode is predicted by Gaussian and non-Gaussian closures, and by Monte-Carlo simulation. The non-Gaussian closure can only predict bounded solutions within a limited region. The on-off intermittency of the second mode is observed in the Monte-Carlo simulation over a small range of excitation level. The influence on response statistics of excitation level and cable parameters, such as internal detuning, damping ratios, and sag-to-span ratio, is reported.  相似文献

Helicopter Ground Resonance is a dynamic instability involving the coupling of the blades motion in the rotational plane (i.e. the lag motion) and the motion of the fuselage. This paper presents a study of the capacity of a Non-linear Energy Sink to control a Helicopter Ground Resonance. A model of helicopter with a minimum number of degrees of freedom that can reproduce Helicopter Ground Resonance instability is obtained using successively Coleman transformation and binormal transformation. A theoretical/numerical analysis of the steady-state responses of this model when a Non-linear Energy Sink is attached on the fuselage in an ungrounded configuration is performed. The analytic approach is based on complexification-averaging method together with geometric singular perturbation theory. Four steady-state responses are highlighted and explained analytically: complete suppression, partial suppression through strongly modulated response, partial suppression through periodic response and no suppression of the Helicopter Ground Resonance. A systematic method based on simple analytical criterions is proposed to predict the steady-state response regimes. The method is finally validated numerically.  相似文献

This method is suitable for the systems with even non-linearities as well as with odd non-linearities. It can be viewed as a generalization of the two-variable expansion procedure. Using the present method we obtained a modified Krylov-Bogoliubov method. Four numerical examples are presented which served to demonstrate the effectiveness of the present method.  相似文献

The transition to chaos in non-linear mechanics can be characterized by the divergency of trajectories in configuration space with the kinematic line-element. Geometrical interpretation of this transition allows us to express the criteria of chaos in terms of the curvature of the configuration space and the geodesic curvature of the trajectories. In this work analytical criteria of chaos based upon the concept of orbital instability in the configuration space are derived.  相似文献

Consider a one-mass system with two degrees of freedom, non-linearly coupled, with parametric excitation in one direction. Assuming the internal resonance 1:2 and parametric resonance 1:2 we derive conditions for stability of the trivial solution by using both the harmonic balance method and the normal form method of averaging. If the trivial solution becomes unstable, a stable periodic solution may emerge, there are also cases where the trivial solution is stable and co-exists with a stable periodic solution; if both the trivial solution and the periodic solution(s) are unstable, we find an attracting torus with large amplitudes by a Neimark-Sacker bifurcation. The results of the harmonic balance method and averaging are compared, as well as the results on the Neimark-Sacker bifurcation obtained by the numerical software package CONTENT and by averaging. In all cases we have good agreement.  相似文献

In Hamiltonian theory, Noether's theorem commonly is used to show the conservation of linear momentum and energy as a consequence of symmetry properties. The possibility of enclosing Hamiltonian theory in a wider context by use of Gibbs-Falkian thermodynamical methods, offering the opportunity to cover mechanical and thermodynamical systems with the same mathematical tools, is considered. Consequently it is shown how Noether's identity can be extended for dissipative systems which are appropriate to describe real life phenomena. By use of the principle of least action an extended version of Noether's theorem is calculated, from which the conservation of linear momentum and total energy can be derived. Additionally, the condition of absolute invariance is shown to be too restrictive for physical applications.  相似文献

Viscoelastic constitutive equations are constructed by assuming that the stress is a nonlinear function of the current strain and of a set of internal variables satisfying relaxation equations of fractional order. The dependence of the relaxation equations on the strain can also be nonlinear. The resulting constitutive equations are examined as mapping between appropriate Sobolev spaces. The proposed formulation is easier to implement numerically than history-based formulations.   相似文献
