The primary objective of this paper is to examine the random response characteristics of coupled nonlinear oscillators in the presence of single and simultaneous internal resonances. A model of two coupled beams with nonlinear inertia interaction is considered. The primary beam is directly excited by a random support motion, while the coupled beam is indirectly excited through autoparametric coupling and parametric excitation. For a single one-to-two internal resonance, we used Gaussian and non-Gaussian closures, Monte Carlo simulation, and experimental testing to predict and measure response statistics and stochastic bifurcation in the mean square. The mean square stability boundaries of the coupled beam equilibrium position are obtained by a Gaussian closure scheme. The stochastic bifurcation of the coupled beam is predicted theoretically and experimentally. The stochastic bifurcation predicted by non-Gaussian closure is found to take place at a lower excitation level than the one predicted by Gaussian closure and Monte Carlo simulation. It is also found that above a certain excitation level, the solution obtained by non-Gaussian closure reveals numerical instability at much lower excitation levels than those obtained by Gaussian and Monte Carlo approaches. The experimental observations reveal that the coupled beam does not reach a stationary state, as reflected by the time evolution of the mean square response. For the case of simultaneous internal resonances, both Gaussian and non-Gaussian closures fail to predict useful results, and attention is focused on Monte Carlo simulation and experimental testing. The effects of nonlinear coupling parameters, internal detuning ratios, and excitation spectral density level are considered in both investigations. It is found that both studies reveal common nonlinear features such as bifurcations in the mean square responses of the coupled beam and modal interaction in the neighborhood of internal resonances. Furthermore, there is an upper limit for the excitation level above which the system experiences unbounded response in the neighborhood of simultaneous internal resonances.  相似文献

Under consideration of initial unstressed transverse runout, governing equation of a flexible disk rotating at periodically varying angular speed is modeled as a parametrically excited system, and steady state deflection and resonance of the disk is investigated by the harmonic balance method. The investigation shows that the initial transverse runout of a given disk mode affects the steady state deflection of the mode itself more prominently than other modes, and the deflection component fluctuating in high-frequency is weak and can be neglected in analysis. The disk resonates when the integer multiple frequency of angular speed variation around the disk natural frequency in the frame fixed on the disk. And each integer multiple frequency results in twin resonance peaks with increasing variation amplitude and constant part of the angular speed. The angular speed variation amplitude enlarges the resonance peaks.  相似文献

Based on the von Karman plate theory of large deflection, we derive the nonlinear partial differential equation for a rectangular magnetoelectroelastic thin plate under the action of a transverse static mechanical load. By employing the Bubnov-Galerkin method, the nonlinear partial differential equation is transformed to a third-order nonlinear algebraic equation for the maximum deflection where a coupling factor is introduced for determining the coupling effect on the deflection. Numerical results are carried out for the thin plate made of piezoelectric BaTiO3 and piezomagnetic CoFe2O4 materials. Some interesting results are obtained which could be useful to future analysis and design of multiphase composite plates.  相似文献

hing dynamics in a square tank are numerically investigated when the tank is subjected to horizontal, narrowband random ground excitation. The natural frequencies of the two predominant sloshing modes are identical and therefore 1:1 internal resonance may occur. Galerkin’s method is applied to derive the modal equations of motion for nonlinear sloshing including higher modes. The Monte Carlo simulation is used to calculate response statistics such as mean square values and probability density functions (PDFs). The two predominant modes exhibit complex phenomena including “autoparametric interaction” because they are nonlinearly coupled with each other. The mean square responses of these two modes and the liquid elevation are found to differ significantly from those of the corresponding linear model, depending on the characteristics of the random ground excitation such as bandwidth, center frequency and excitation direction. It is found that the direction of the excitation is a significant factor in predicting the mean square responses. The frequency response curves for the same system subjected to equivalent harmonic excitation are also calculated and compared with the mean square responses to further explain the phenomena. Changing the liquid level causes the peak of the mean square response to shift. Furthermore, the risk of the liquid overspill from the tank is discussed by showing the three-dimensional distribution charts of the mean square responses of liquid elevations.  相似文献

A Donnell type theory is developed for finite deflection of closely stiffened truncatedlaminated composite conical shells under arbitrary loads by using the variational calculusand smeared-stiffener theory. The most general bending-stretching coupling and the effectof eccentricity of stiffeners are considered. The equilibrium equations, boundary conditionsand the equation of compatibility are derived. The new equations.of the mixed-type ofstiffened laminated composite conical shells are obtained in terms of the transversedeflection and stress function. The simplified equations are also given for some commonlyencountered cases.  相似文献

The purpose of this investigation was to obtain experimental stress and deflection data for thick, circular, simply supported plates, containing circular transverse perforations in square motif, under uniform lateral loading. The stress-concentration factor and the deflection-multiplier factor, the ratio of the maximum principal stress and the maximum deflection of the perforated plate to that of the solid-plate specimen, respectively, were obtained for each perforated specimen. These factors can be conveniently used for the design of tube sheets, perforated heads, or other similar structural components.  相似文献

A pure tone phenomenon has been observed at 460 Hz in a piping steam line. The acoustical energy has been identified to be generated in an open gate valve and to be of cavity noise type. This energy is then transmitted to the main pipe by fluid/structure coupling. The objectives here are to display the mechanism of the flow acoustic coupling in the cavity and in the duct through an aeroacoustical analysis and to understand the way of energy transfer from the fluid to the main pipe through a vibroacoustical analysis. Concerning the first objective, an experimental study by means of 2/7 scale models in air is analysed by means of numerical flow simulation. The flow acoustic phenomena are modelled by computing the Euler equations. Two different computations are carried out: in the first one, a pure Euler modelling is used, in the second one, a boundary layer obtained from experimental data is introduced in the computation in order to have a realistic flow profile upstream the cavity. The boundary layer flow profile appears to be essential to recover the experimentally observed coupling between the shear-layer instability and the acoustical transverse mode of the pipe. The numerical results confirm that the second aerodynamic mode is responsible for the oscillation. While the predicted frequency agrees about 1% with the scale model experiments, the predicted amplitude is approximately 15 dB too low. For the second objective, fluid/structure coupling in the main pipe is studied using two fully coupled methods. The first method consists in a modal analysis of the line using a fluid–structure finite element model. The second one is based on the analysis of dispersion diagrams derived from the local equations of cylindrical shells filled with fluid. The way of energy transfer in transverse acoustical waves coupled with flexion-ovalization deformations of the pipe is highlighted using both methods. The dispersion diagrams allow a fast and accurate analysis. The modal analysis using a finite-element model may complete the first one with quantitative data. The link between the fluid/acoustic and the fluid/structure analysis is then the excitation of the transverse acoustical mode of the duct.  相似文献

An analytical–numerical method involving a small number of generalized coordinates is presented for the analysis of the nonlinear vibration and dynamic stability behaviour of imperfect anisotropic cylindrical shells. Donnell-type governing equations are used and classical lamination theory is employed. The assumed deflection modes approximately satisfy simply supported boundary conditions. The axisymmetric mode satisfying a relevant coupling condition with the linear, asymmetric mode is included in the assumed deflection function. The shell is statically loaded by axial compression, radial pressure and torsion. A two-mode imperfection model, consisting of an axisymmetric and an asymmetric mode, is used. The static-state response is assumed to be affine to the given imperfection. In order to find approximate solutions for the dynamic-state equations, Hamiltons principle is applied to derive a set of modal amplitude equations. The dynamic response is obtained via numerical time-integration of the set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The nonlinear behaviour under axial parametric excitation and the dynamic buckling under axial step loading of specific imperfect isotropic and anisotropic shells are simulated using this approach. Characteristic results are discussed. The softening behaviour of shells under parametric excitation and the decrease of the buckling load under step loading, as compared with the static case, are illustrated.

The potential of harvesting vibratory energy via a bistable beam subjected to subharmonic parametric excitations is investigated. The vibrating structure is a buckled beam with two stable equilibria separated by a potential barrier. The beam is subjected to a superposition of a static axial load beyond its buckling load and a harmonic axial excitation whose frequency is around twice the frequency of the buckled beam’s first vibration mode. A macro-fiber composite patch is attached to one side of the beam to convert the strain energy resulting from the beam’s oscillation into electricity. The study considers two regimes of excitations: an amplitude sweep and a frequency sweep. In the first regime, the amplitude of excitation is quasi-statically varied while the excitation frequency is tuned at twice the natural frequency of the first vibration mode. In the second regime, the excitation frequency is swept forward and backward around the subharmonic resonant frequency while the amplitude of excitation is kept constant. A theoretical model which governs the electromechanical coupling of the transverse vibrations of the beam and the output voltage is used to monitor the response as the excitation parameters are changed. An experimental setup is also built and a series of tests is performed to validate the theoretical findings. It is shown that, depending on the amplitude and frequency of excitation, the harvester can perform small-amplitude periodic intra-well motion, intra- and inter-well chaotic motions, as well as periodic inter-well motions. Experimental results also show that, as compared to the classical linear resonance, utilizing the sub-harmonic resonance of a bistable energy harvesters can result in a broadband frequency response.  相似文献

A nonlinear vibration analysis of a simply supported functionally graded rectangular plate with a through-width surface crack is presented in this paper. The plate is subjected to a transverse excitation force. Material properties are graded in the thickness direction according to exponential distributions. The cracked plate is treated as an assembly of two sub-plates connected by a rotational spring at the cracked section whose stiffness is calculated through stress intensity factor. Based on Reddy’s third-order shear deformation plate theory, the nonlinear governing equations of motion for the FGM plate are derived by using the Hamilton’s principle. The deflection of each sub-plate is assumed to be a combination of the first two mode shape functions with unknown constants to be determined from boundary and compatibility conditions. The Galerkin’s method is then utilized to convert the governing equations to a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system including quadratic and cubic nonlinear terms under the external excitation, which is numerically solved to obtain the nonlinear responses of cracked FGM rectangular plates. The influences of material property gradient, crack depth, crack location and plate thickness ratio on the vibration frequencies and transient response of the surface-racked FGM plate are discussed in detail through a parametric study.  相似文献

The stochastic bifurcation and response statistics of nonlinear modal interaction under parametric random excitation are studied analytically, numerically and experimentally. Two basic definitions of stochastic bifurcation are first introduced. These are bifurcation in distribution and bifurcation in moments. bifurcation in moments is examined for the case of a coupled oscillator subjected to parametric filtered white noise. The center frequency of the excitation is selected to be close to either twice the first mode or second mode natural frequencies or the sum of the two. The stochastic bifurcation in moments is predicted using the Fokker-Planck equation together with gaussian and non-Gaussian closures and numerically using the Monte Carlo simulation. When one mode is parametrically excited it transfers energy to the other mode due to nonlinear modal interaction. The Gaussian closure solution gives close results to those predicted numerically only in regions well remote from bifurcation points. However, bifurcation points predicted by the non-Gaussian closure are in good agreement with those estimated by numerical simulation. Depending on the excitation level, the probability density of the excited mode is strongly non-Gaussian and exhibits multi-maxima as predicted by Monte Carlo simulation. Experimental tests are carried out at relatively low excitation levels. In the neighborhood of stochastic bifurcation in mean square the measured results exhibit different regimes of response characteristics including zero motion and occasional small random motion regimes. These two regimes are characterized by the phenomenon of on-off intermittency. Both regimes overlap and thus it is difficult to locate experimentally the bifurcation point.  相似文献

The effect of the narrow-band random excitation on the non-linear response of sandwich plates with an incompressible viscoelastic core is investigated. To model the core, both the transverse shear strains and rotations are assumed to be moderate and the displacement field in the thickness direction is assumed to be linear for the in-plane components and quadratic for the out-of-plane components. In connection to the moderate shear strains considered for the core, a non-linear single-integral viscoelastic model is also used for constitutive modeling of the core. The fifth-order perturbation method is used together with the Galerkin method to transform the nine partial differential equations to a single ordinary integro-differential equation. Converting the lower-order viscoelastic integral term to the differential form, the fifth-order method of multiple scale is applied together with the method of reconstitution to obtain the stochastic phase-amplitude equations. The Fokker–Planck–Kolmogorov equation corresponding to these equations is then solved by the finite difference method, to determine the probability density of the response. The variation of root mean square and marginal probability density of the response amplitude with excitation deterministic frequency and magnitudes are investigated and the bimodal distribution is recognized in narrow ranges of excitation frequency and magnitude.  相似文献

In offshore engineering long slender risers are simultaneously subjected to both axial and transverse excitations. The axial load is the fluctuating top tension which is induced by the floater’s heave motion, while the transverse excitation comes from environmental loads such as waves. As the time-varying axial load may trigger classical parametric resonance, dynamic analysis of a deepwater riser with combined axial and transverse excitations becomes more complex. In this study, to fully capture the coupling effect between the planar axial and transverse vibrations, the nonlinear coupled equations of a riser’s dynamic motion are formulated and then solved by the central difference method in the time domain. For comparison, numerical simulations are carried out for both linear and nonlinear models. The results show that the transverse displacements predicted by both models are similar to each other when only the random transverse excitation is applied. However, when the combined axial dynamic tension and transverse wave forces are both considered, the linear model underestimates the response because it ignores the coupling effect. Thus the coupled model is more appropriate for deep water. It is also found that the axial excitation can significantly increase the riser’s transverse response and hence the bending stress, especially for cases when the time-varying tension is located at the classical parametric resonance region. Such time-varying effects should be taken into account in fatigue safety assessment.  相似文献
