This paper investigates strain measured on the inside of an agricultural tyre with large tread-blocks during a series of static tests using a novel measuring system. The full field strain measurements may be used in the development of a tyre which is capable of estimating tyre forces from strain measurements. The strain measurement system makes use of a calibrated stereo camera system on a mechanical stabilizing system that keeps the cameras pointed at the inside surface of the tyre in contact with the road while the wheel rotates. A static tyre test rig is used to displace the road surface relative to the tyre in the vertical and longitudinal direction. The large tread-blocks caused strain concentrations on the inner surface as the tyre deforms to comply with the road surface. Vertical and longitudinal tests each produce unique strain patterns in the contact patch region. Relationships between the applied forces and strain measurements were developed and showed that these relationships are near linear with R2 values above 0.97. The strain measurements also show that the location where strain gauges, for single point strain measurements, are placed inside the tyre is very important on large lugged tyres.  相似文献

Motion resistance of tyres directly contribute to the operational costs of all vehicles. Advances in the design and simulation of large off-road vehicles (construction, mining, agriculture etc.) have increased the need for accurate models of large off-road tyres. Vehicle OEMs use coast down and drawbar pull tests to determine the motion resistance of tyres used. Drum test rigs and motion resistance test trailers can also be used to determine motion resistance. Most research on motion resistance to date have been conducted on passenger car tyres with on-road truck tyres coming into focus. Motion resistance studies on agricultural tyres traversing over deformable terrain have been conducted in the past. However as more off-road vehicle are being used on-road OEMs of off-road vehicle are infesting in motion resistance measurements on non-deformable terrain. This paper compares different methods used to measure the motion resistance of a large lug tyre, as used in agricultural applications, on non-deformable terrain. Some basic considerations that need to be taken into account are the very low longitudinal forces that need to be measured compared to the large vertical load carried by the tyre and tyre operating conditions.  相似文献

Every mathematical model used in a simulation is an idealization and simplification of reality. Vehicle dynamic simulations that go beyond the fundamental investigations require complex multi-body simulation models. The tyre–road interaction presents one of the biggest challenges in creating an accurate vehicle model. Many tyre models have been proposed and developed but proper validation studies are less accessible. These models were mostly developed and validated for passenger car tyres for application on relatively smooth roads. The improvement of ride comfort, safety and structural integrity of large off-road vehicles, over rough terrain, has become more significant in the development process of heavy vehicles. This paper investigates whether existing tyre models can be used to accurately describe the vertical behaviour of large off road tyres while driving over uneven terrain. [1] Presented an extensive set of experimentally determined parameterization and validation data for a large off-road tyre. Both laboratory and field test are performed for various loads, inflation pressures and terrain inputs. The parameterization process of four tyre models or contact models are discussed in detail. The parameterized models are then validated against test results on various hard but rough off-road terrain and the results are discussed.  相似文献

Due to their many economic and ecological implications the possibility to predict tyre wear is of major importance to tyre manufacturers, fleet owners and governments. Based on these observations, in 2000 a three-year project named Tyre and Road Wear and Slip assessment (TROWS) was started. One of the TROWS objectives was to provide a tool able to numerically predict tyre global wear as well as to qualitatively determine the wear distribution. The proposed methodology combines a mathematical model of the tyre with an experimentally determined local friction and wear law. Thus, tyre abrasion due to each single manoeuvre can be determined. Full-scale experimental tests were carried out with two Peugeot 406 cars on a public road course in Italy. Each car was equipped with a different set of tyres: one car was equipped with four all-season tyres (from now on called A tyres) and the other car was equipped with four winter tyres (from now on called B tyres). Both sets of tyres had a 195/65 R15 size. The collected data was used to validate the model. The methodology proved to give qualitatively good tyre wear predictions.  相似文献

In general, all primary as well as disturbing forces acting on a vehicle (with the exception of aerodynamic forces) are generated at the tyre–road interface. The small size pneumatic tyres presented in this work are mostly used in lightweight vehicles like scooters, motor cycles and 3-wheelers that are extensively used for intercity transportation applications in India and other developing countries. Analytical approach is more advantage than experimental work due to many factors like it involves less cost, minimum time and little effort. Hence, Analytical tyre models are developed based on various normal pressure distributions with tyre contact patch as rectangle at the middle with part of circles at the ends. The tyre longitudinal and lateral force characteristic equations for proposed tyre models are developed. In addition, the equations for self – aligning moment and overturning moment characteristics for all tyre models are also derived. Results of proposed tyre models in the present study are compared with well-established earlier tyre models [4], [5], [6]. From the force and moment characteristics of all tyre models, unsymmetrical trapezoidal pressure distribution tyre model gives better performance than other models due to which better lateral stability of the vehicle can be obtained.  相似文献

The problem of off-road vehicle tyre-terrain interaction is that it is difficult to model accurately. For an off-road vehicle over medium to firm terrain, the tyre load may be entirely supported by the tips of the lugs, or with a minimum carcass contact with the terrain. In this case, the effect of the lugs should be taken into consideration. The forces at the interface between lugged tyre and the soil, including normal and shear stresses, are discussed in this paper. The multi-spoke tyre model was developed to study the effect of tyre lugs on the forces between tyre and terrain and it has been extended to predict the tyre forces and moments in the case of combined lateral and longitudinal slip for a cambered tyre. The influence of slip angle, camber angle and soil hardness on off-road tyre performance has been investigated. A computer program was developed using MATLAB software. The results were derived as tyre forces and moments in the three directions along the tyre contact length. A comparison between the results of the multi-spoke tyre model of a smooth off-road tyre and an off-road tyre with straight lugs, in the cambered case, has been made. The results indicated that slip angle, camber angle and soil characteristics have a strong effect on off-road tyre performance. The modified mathematical model results help the off-road tyre engineering designers to predict accurate values of tyre forces and moments in this complex case.  相似文献

Bigger tyres with lower inflation pressure at equivalent wheel loads are expected to reduce the stresses transmitted to the soil. We measured the contact area and the vertical stress distribution near the soil-tyre interface for five agricultural implement tyres at 30 and 60 kN wheel load and rated inflation pressures. Seventeen stress transducers were installed at 0.1 m depth in a sandy soil at a water content slightly lower than field capacity and covered with loose soil. The recently developed model FRIDA was successfully fitted to the experimental stress data across the footprint. The contact area reflected the size of the tyres. The small tyres had identical contact area at the two loads, while it increased with load for the two biggest tyres. The small tyres presented uneven stress distributions with high peak stresses. Across the tests, the tyre inflation pressure described well the measured peak stress as well as the modelled maximum stress. The latter seems to be appropriate in evaluating vehicle trafficability. We found significant differences among tyres for the slope of a linear regression between the mean ground pressure and the inflation pressure, while the tyres displayed the same interception on the mean ground pressure axis. Our results therefore suggest that the slope of this relation is the most sensitive expression of tyres’ ability to deflect and transfer stresses to the soil. The two small tyres performed poorer in this respect than the larger tyres. Tests were limited to one soil strength, with future research directed toward a broader spectrum of soil strengths.  相似文献

Driving on ice is still a risky activity. Research has investigated the factors contributing to the friction mechanism and has reported experimental studies of pneumatic tyres on ice in order to develop models that predict tractive and braking performance on ice/snow. Therefore, developing testing methods to obtain relevant experimental data for the validation of models is equally important. There are agricultural and industrial vehicles which are also designed for pulling but there are no specific studies reporting experimental tests on traction force of such machines in snowy conditions. However, this issue is very topical, as demonstrated by the appearance on the market of winter tyres for such vehicles. This study presents a method for testing winter tyres in outdoor test facilities with a focus on traction performance. The conclusions will serve in future investigations as a concise knowledge source to develop improved testing facilities and tyre–ice interaction models, aiding the development of better tyre designs and improved vehicle safety systems. The functional tests hereafter described have been carried out with the aim of evaluating the possibility of measuring the influences of different technique solutions on the performance of certain 17.5 R25 sized industrial tyres.  相似文献

Vehicle tyres are anisotropic inhomogeneous fibre-reinforced shells which undergo finite elastic deformations. Calculation of their stress and deformation fields is a difficult task and is normally performed using the finite element technique. In this paper an attempt is made to provide an approximate analysis of the deformation field modelling the tyre as an ideal fibre-reinforced material. Radial-ply tyres are reinforced by a belt of fibres running around the wheel in the circumferential direction under the tread of the tyre. A second set of fibres lies in each radial cross-section, of the tyre and runs from the bead wire which seats against one wheel rim to the bead wire at the other wheel rim. We shall assume each radial cross-section of the tyre is in a state of plane strain and is formed from an arch of fibre-reinforced composite material which is reinforced in the hoop direction. This composite is assumed to be an ideal material which is inextensible in the fibre-direction and is incompressible. The plane-strain deformations of this section are examined and then used to analyse the deformation of the tyre as a whole.  相似文献

A machine has been developed which is capable of measuring the suspension properties of agricultural tyres under a variety of conditions. The results produced are in agreement with those produced by other workers when these are available, showing clearly that the characteristics of rolling tyres are significantly different from those of stationary tyres. Tyre characteristics are found to have an almost linear relationship with tyre inflation pressure. Various methods of measuring tyre stiffness and tyre damping are used and the results compared.  相似文献

The NIAE single-wheel test vehicle was used to compare the tractive performance of a 67 × 34.00-25 tyre at 0.34 bar inflation pressure with that of 20.8–38 radial tyre at 0.6 bar inflation pressure and a similar 18.4–34 tyre at 0.8 bar inflation pressure. All tyres had similar tread patterns and were tested at the same vertical load of 2250 kg. The best performance was achieved by the 20.8–38 tyre. There was little difference in performance between the other two tyres. When compared with empirical predictions of performance derived from previous work, the two narrower tyres were found to perform approximately as predicted, but the performance of the wide, low-pressure tyre was considerably worse than predicted. This was thought to be due to bulldozing, because of the great width and increased wheel-slip caused by deformation of the soft side-wall and also due to the relatively short ground contact area. It was concluded that wide, low-pressure tyres are only suitable for fitting to vehicles requiring a very low draught capability.  相似文献

This publication series describes the development of the Hohenheim Tyre Model – an approach that considers the properties of high volume, agricultural tyres. The research project was conducted in accordance with the V-Model, which proposes a standardised development methodology for mechatronic systems. The previous publication described amongst others the model structure and parameterisation. This paper elucidates the validation, which is an essential part of the V-Model. Validation received special attention and is divided into three parts. First, three-dimensional tyre behaviour on level surfaces was investigated. Within the second step, single tyre behaviour is validated during obstacle passages. Similar obstacles were then used in the final step that shows up the correlation between measured and simulated whole vehicle behaviour. Throughout the validation a very high level of accuracy is achieved.  相似文献

Measurement of tyre longitudinal slip-ratio is often estimated from three independent measurements devices namely wheel rotation speed, vehicle speed and tyre rolling radius. This produces an expensive measurement system to indirectly determine the slip-ratio. This paper presents a method by which the slip-ratio is determined from a video camera using digital image correlation techniques. The camera, mounted in such a way that the contact patch region is captured, enables the system to measure the tyre tread speed and ground speed at the contact patch. The slip-ratio is then determined from these two measurements.  相似文献

The desirable weight-to-axle power ratio for agricultural tractors is determined by the necessity for the optimum utilisation of the available axle power to produce the required drawbar pull at a preselected slip. For a vehicle designed to operate in a given speed range, the weight-to-axle power ratio should be within a particular limit, so that a specific level of conversion efficiency can be maintained. In this paper attempts have been made to select suitable tyres for Indian two-wheel drive tractors operating in sandy clay loam soils on the basis of weight-to-power utiisation and maximum pull-to-optimum weight ratio at a preselected slip using the developed traction prediction equations. A comparison has also been made between the desired and actual weight on a single traction wheel and suitable tyre and tyre normally fitted in Indian two wheel drive tractors up to 35 kW.  相似文献

This paper presents a novel method for capturing the 3D profile of the inside of a rolling off-road vehicle tyre at the tyre-road contact region. This method captures the contact region at all times as the vehicle negotiates obstacles. The system uses a pair of inexpensive digital cameras (capable of capturing up to 300 frames per second) and features a purely mechanical stabilisation system to ensure that the cameras capture the contact region at any wheel speed or vehicle acceleration. The captured images are processed using 3D computer vision techniques using an open source computer vision library called OpenCV. Stereo image pairs are used to create clouds of 3D points showing the profile of the inside surface with good accuracy. Various obstacles were traversed with the deformed tyre profile being compared to the undeformed profile. The system improves on current measurement techniques used to measure the contact patch by capturing a large region of the contact patch, providing full 3D surface geometry, as well as remaining centred on the contact patch irrespective of wheel rotation. The system also enables other imaging techniques to be used such as digital image correlation to determine velocity profiles as well as strain measurements.  相似文献

UPM indoor tyre traction testing facility   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) tyre traction testing facility was designed and developed to spearhead fundamental research on traction mechanics with high-lug agricultural tyres on tropical soils. This available facility consists of a moving carriage with a cantilever-mounted tyre that moves in either forward or reverse directions on rails well above a soil tank. The present facility set-up was able to operate in either: (a) towing test mode for tyre motion resistance studies, or (b) driving test mode for tyre net traction and tractive efficiency studies. The test tyre on the moving carriage under the towing test mode was made to rotate and engage onto the soil surface in the tank through a chain drive system. Under the driving test mode, the test tyre on the moving carriage was powered to rotate by a motor and a gearbox system with an additional pull provided by a cable-pulley mechanism connected to a tower with hanging dead weights. All controls on the moving carriage were activated from the main control console. Respective transducers were positioned at various localities within and interfaced to a data acquisition system to measure tyre horizontal and vertical forces, tyre sinkage, tyre speed and motion carriage speed. The data acquisition system was able to receive the measured signals in real time, display on the monitor screen and record into its CPU storage memory. Static calibration tests on various associated transducers showed excellent linearity with coefficients of determination (r2) of close to 1. The developed facility was successfully tested to determine motion resistance and net traction ratios for high-lug agricultural tyre at the recommended inflation pressure on sandy clay loam soil.  相似文献

Four tyres (18.4-38, 18.4R38, 14.9-28, 14.9R28) were tested using the UCD single wheel traction tester. Each tyre was tested at two different inflation pressures and three different vertical loads at each inflation pressure. All tests were conducted in a well tilled Yolo loam soil. A dimensional analysis procedure was used to design and analyse the experiment. Two models were considered: (A) using inflation pressure as a variable, and (B) using tyre deflection as a variable. The effect of tyre type, tyre size, tyre inflation pressure and dynamic load on (1) net traction ratio at 20% slip and (2) average tractive efficiency in the 0–30% slip range were investigated using an ANOVA technique. An estimate of the possible energy savings due to the use of radial ply tyres instead of bias ply tyres in California agriculture was made.  相似文献

The radial damping of agricultural tractor tyres   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The damping coefficients of rolling agricultural tractor tyres in the radial (or vertical) direction have been measured. Six different tyres ranging in age from 1 to 16 years have been measured. Factors which most affect the apparent radial damping of the tyre are the inflation pressure, the tyre age, and the surface over which it rolls. The effects of rolling speed, load, torque, amplitude, frequency, ply rating and lug length are also discussed.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the parameterisation, validation and implementation of an FTire model of a Michelin LTX A/T2 235/85R16 tyre. This tyre is designed for both on- and off-road use and is commonly used on all wheel drive SUVs. Quasi-static laboratory and dynamic field tests were conducted to acquire parameterisation and validation test data for the FTire model. Quasi-static parameterisation tests include acquiring vertical tyre stiffness over a flat plate and cleats, tyre footprint sizes and shapes, longitudinal, lateral and torsional tyre stiffness for various tyre normal loads, as well as vibrational tyre responses. Dynamic parameterisation tests include dynamic cleat test data. An Adams model of the tyre testing equipment is implemented to simulate the FTire model and validate it against dynamic validation test results. Finally, the model is implemented on a fully nonlinear multi-body dynamics model of a Land Rover Defender. It is found that the FTire model is able to predict the lateral tyre behaviour well on a smooth road surface. The vertical and longitudinal tyre behaviour on a smooth road surface and on a rough surface are predicted accurately.  相似文献
