Two classes of synthetically useful bimetallic complexes of the form [(tpy)M(tpp)RuCl(3)](PF(6)) and [(tpy)M(tpp)Ru(tpp)](PF(6))(4) have been prepared and their spectroscopic and electrochemical properties investigated (tpy = 2,2':6',2"-terpyridine, tpp = 2,3,5,6-tetrakis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine, and M = Ru(II) or Os(II)). Synthetic methods have been developed for the stepwise construction of tpp-bridged systems using a building block approach. In all four complexes, the tpp that serves as the bridging ligand is the site of localization of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO). The nature of the HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital) varies depending upon the components present. In the systems of the type [(tpy)M(tpp)RuCl(3)](PF(6)), the ruthenium metal coordinated to tpp and three chlorides is the easiest to oxidize and is the site of localization of the HOMO. In contrast, for the [(tpy)M(tpp)Ru(tpp)](PF(6))(4) systems, the HOMO is based on the metal, M, that is varied, either Ru or Os. This gives rise to systems which possess a lowest lying excited state that is always a metal-to-ligand charge transfer state involving tpp but can be tuned to involve Os or Ru metal centers in a variety of coordination environments. The synthetic variation of the components within this framework has allowed for understanding the spectroscopic and electrochemical properties. Bimetallic systems incorporating this tpp ligand have long-lived excited states at room temperature (lifetimes of ca. 100 ns). The bimetallic system [(tpy)Ru(tpp)Ru(tpp)](PF(6))(4) has a longer excited state lifetime than the monometallic system from which it was constructed, [(tpy)Ru(tpp)](PF(6))(2). Details of the spectroscopic and electrochemical studies are reported herein.  相似文献

A series of mixed-metal complexes coupling ruthenium light absorbers to platinum reactive metal sites through polyazine bridging ligands have been prepared of the form [(tpy)RuCl(BL)PtCl(2)](PF(6)) (BL = 2,3-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine (dpp), 2,3-bis(2-pyridyl)quinoxaline (dpq), 2,3-bis(2-pyridyl)benzoquinoxaline (dpb); tpy = 2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine). These systems possess electron-rich Ru metal centers bound to five polyazine nitrogens and one chloride ligand. This leads to complexes with low-energy Ru --> BL charge-transfer bands that are tunable with BL variation occurring at 544, 632, and 682 nm for dpp, dpq, and dpb, respectively. This tuning of the charge-transfer energy results from a stabilization of the BL(pi) orbitals in this series as evidenced by the cathodic shift in the first reduction of these complexes occurring at -0.50, -0.32, and -0.20 V vs Ag/AgCl, for dpp, dpq, and dpb, respectively. The chlorides bound to the Pt(II) center are substitutionally labile giving these complexes the ability to covalently bind to DNA. All three title bimetallics, [(tpy)RuCl(BL)PtCl(2)](PF(6)), avidly bind double-stranded DNA with t(1/2) = 1-2 min, substantially reducing the migration of DNA through an agarose gel. Details of the synthetic methods, FAB MS data, spectroscopic and electrochemical properties, and DNA binding studies are presented.  相似文献

Mixed-metal supramolecular complexes that couple ruthenium or osmium based light absorbers to a central rhodium(III) core have been designed which photocleave DNA upon irradiation with visible light. The complexes [[(bpy)(2)Ru(dpp)](2)RhCl(2)](PF(6))(5), [[(bpy)(2)Os(dpp)](2)RhCl(2)](PF(6))(5), and [[(tpy)RuCl(dpp)](2)RhCl(2)](PF(6))(3), where bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, tpy = 2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine, and dpp = 2,3-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine, all exhibit intense metal to ligand charge transfer (MLCT) based transitions in the visible but possess lower lying metal to metal charge transfer (MMCT) excited states. These supramolecular complexes with low lying MMCT states photocleave DNA when excited into their intense MLCT transitions. Structurally similar complexes without this low lying MMCT state do not exhibit DNA photocleavage, establishing the role of this MMCT state in the DNA photocleavage event. Design considerations necessary to produce functional DNA photocleavage agents are presented herein.  相似文献

The molecular and electronic structures of the four members, [Cr(tpy)(2)](PF(6))(n) (n = 3-0; complexes 1-4; tpy = 2,2':6',2″-terpyridine), of the electron transfer series [Cr(tpy)(2)](n+) have been determined experimentally by single-crystal X-ray crystallography, by their electro- and magnetochemistry, and by the following spectroscopies: electronic absorption, X-ray absorption (XAS), and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). The monoanion of this series, [Cr(tpy)(2)](1-), has been prepared in situ by reduction with KC(8) and its EPR spectrum recorded. The structures of 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, where the latter two compounds are the Mo and W analogues of neutral 4, have been determined at 100(2) K. The optimized geometries of 1-6 have been obtained from density functional theoretical (DFT) calculations using the B3LYP functional. The XAS and low-energy region of the electronic spectra have also been calculated using time-dependent (TD)-DFT. A consistent picture of the electronic structures of these octahedral complexes has been established. All one-electron transfer processes on going from 1 to 4 are ligand-based: 1 is [Cr(III)(tpy(0))(2)](PF(6))(3) (S = (3)/(2)), 2 is [Cr(III)(tpy(?))(tpy(0))](PF(6))(2) (S = 1), 3 is [Cr(III)(tpy(?))(2)](PF(6)) (S = (1)/(2)), and 4 is [Cr(III)(tpy(??))(tpy(?))](0) (S = 0), where (tpy(0)) is the neutral parent ligand, (tpy(?))(1-) represents its one-electron-reduced π radical monoanion, (tpy(2-))(2-) or (tpy(??))(2-) is the corresponding singlet or triplet dianion, and (tpy(3-))(3-) (S = (1)/(2)) is the trianion. The electronic structure of 2 cannot be described as [Cr(II)(tpy(0))(2)](PF(6))(2) (a low-spin Cr(II) (d(4); S = 1) complex). The geometrical features (C-C and C-N bond lengths) of these coordinated ligands have been elucidated computationally in the following hypothetical species: [Zn(II)Cl(2)(tpy(0))](0) (S = 0) (A), [Zn(II)(tpy(?))Cl(NH(3))](0) (S = (1)/(2)) (B), [Zn(II)(tpy(2-))(NH(3))(2)](0) (S = 0 or 1) (C), and [Al(III)(tpy(3-))(NH(3))(3)](0) (S = (1)/(2) and (3)/(2)) (D). The remarkable electronic structure of the monoanion has been calculated and experimentally verified by EPR spectroscopy to be [Cr(III)(tpy(2-))(tpy(??))](1-) (S = (1)/(2)), a complex in which the two dianionic tpy ligands differ only in the spin state. It has been clearly established that coordinated tpy ligands are redox-active and can exist in at least four oxidation levels.  相似文献

New pincer ruthenium complexes, [Ru(SCS)(tpy)]PF(6) (1) (SCS = 2,6-bis(benzylaminothiocarbonyl)phenyl), tpy = 2,2':6',2'-terpyridyl) and [Ru(SNS)(tpy)]PF(6) (2) (SNS = 2,5-bis(benzylaminothiocarbonyl)pyrrolyl), having κ(3)SCS and κ(3)SNS pincer ligands with two secondary thioamide units were synthesized by the reactions of [RuCl(3)(tpy)] with N,N'-dibenzyl-1,3-benzenedicarbothioamide (L1) and N,N'-dibenzyl-2,5-1H-pyrroledicarbothioamide (L2), respectively, and their chemical and electrochemical properties were elucidated. The structure of 1 was determined by X-ray crystallography. The complexes 1 and 2 showed a two-step deprotonation reaction by treatment with 1,8-diazabicyclo[5,4,0]undec-7-ene (DBU), and the addition of DBU led to a shift of the metal-centered redox couples to a lower potential by 720 and 550 mV, respectively. The di-deprotonated complexes were also studied by (1)H-NMR and UV-vis spectroscopy. The addition of methanesulfonic acid (MSA) to the di-deprotonated complexes enabled the recovery of 1 and 2, indicating that the thioamide moiety underwent a reversible deprotonation-protonation process, which resulted in regulating the redox potentials of the metal center. The Pourbaix diagram of 1 revealed that 1 underwent a one-proton/one-electron transfer process in the pH range of 5.83-10.35, and a two-proton/one-electron process at a pH of over 10.35, indicating that the deprotonation/protonation process of the complexes is related to proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET).  相似文献

The catalytic activity of [Ru(tpy)(bpy)OH(2)](2+) (tpy = 2,2':6',2'-terpyridine and bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) increased by a 4'-substituted ethoxy group on the tpy ligand by more than one order of magnitude to give 1.1 × 10(-1) s(-1) of catalyst turnover frequency, which is comparable with the hitherto-reported champion data.  相似文献

Supramolecular bimetallic Ru(II)/Pt(II) complexes [(tpy)Ru(PEt(2)Ph)(BL)PtCl(2)](2+) and their synthons [(tpy)Ru(L)(BL)](n)()(+) (where L = Cl(-), CH(3)CN, or PEt(2)Ph; tpy = 2,2':6',2'-terpyridine; and BL = 2,2'-bipyrimidine (bpm) or 2,3-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine (dpp)) have been synthesized and studied by cyclic voltammetry, electronic absorption spectroscopy, mass spectral analysis, and (31)P NMR. The mixed-metal bimetallic complexes couple phosphine-containing Ru chromophores to a reactive Pt site. These complexes show how substitution of the monodentate ligand on the [(tpy)RuCl(BL)](+) synthons can tune the properties of these light absorbers (LA) and incorporate a (31)P NMR tag by addition of the PEt(2)Ph ligand. The redox potentials for the Ru(III/II) couples occur at values greater than 1.00 V versus the Ag/AgCl reference electrode and can be tuned to more positive potentials on going from Cl(-) to CH(3)CN or PEt(2)Ph (E(1/2) = 1.01, 1.55, and 1.56 V, respectively, for BL = bpm). The BL(0/-) couple at -1.03 (bpm) and -1.05 V (dpp) for [(tpy)Ru(PEt(2)Ph)(BL)](2+) shifts dramatically to more positive potentials upon the addition of the PtCl(2) moiety to -0.34 (bpm) and -0.50 V (dpp) for the [(tpy)Ru(PEt(2)Ph)(BL)PtCl(2)](2+) bridged complex. The lowest energy electronic absorption for these complexes is assigned as the Ru(d pi) --> BL(pi*) metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) transition. These MLCT transitions are tuned to higher energy in the monometallic synthons when Cl(-) is replaced by CH(3)CN or PEt(2)Ph (516, 452, and 450 nm, for BL = bpm, respectively) and to lower energy when Pt(II)Cl(2) is coordinated to the bridging ligand (560 and 506 nm for BL = bpm or dpp). This MLCT state displays a broad emission at room temperature for all the dpp systems with the [(tpy)Ru(PEt(2)Ph)(dpp)PtCl(2)](2+) system exhibiting an emission centered at 750 nm with a lifetime of 56 ns. These supramolecular complexes [(tpy)Ru(PEt(2)Ph)(BL)PtCl(2)](2+) represent the covalent linkage of TAG-LA-BL-RM assembly (TAG = NMR active tag, RM = Pt(II) reactive metal).  相似文献

A new bridging ligand 1,3,6,8-tetrakis(1-butyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)pyrene (ttapyr) was designed and synthesized by "click" chemistry. This ligand was used to construct a linear dimetallic biscyclometalated Ru(II) complex [(tpy)Ru(ttapyr)Ru(tpy)](2+) and a monometallic complex [(tpy)Ru(ttapyr)](+), where tpy is 2,2':6',2″-terpyridine. The electronic properties of these complexes were studied and compared by electrochemical and spectroscopic methods with the aid of DFT calculations. One-electron oxidation of [(tpy)Ru(ttapyr)Ru(tpy)](2+) with cerium ammonium nitrate produced a mixed-valent complex [(tpy)Ru(ttapyr)Ru(tpy)](3+). The intramolecular electronic coupling between individual metal centers was quantified by the intervalence charge transfer transition analysis. Mixed-valent complex [(tpy)Ru(ttapyr)Ru(tpy)](3+) exhibits a metal-centered rhombic EPR signal at 77 K with an average g factor of 2.203.  相似文献

Six new inorganic-organic salts, all containing iodobismuthate anions and d-metal coordination cations, were synthesized solvothermally from reactions of bismuth iodide, a transition metal (M) nitrate salt (M = Co, Fe or Zn), and a heterocyclic, chelating organic ligand: 1,10-phenanthroline (1,10-phen), 3,4,7,8-tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (TMphen), or 2,2':6',2'-terpyridine (tpy). All six compounds were structurally analyzed by single crystal X-ray diffraction, including variable temperature crystallographic analysis to monitor for structural changes. Furthermore, those containing novel anions and achieved in high yield were additionally characterized by solid-state UV visible spectroscopy at room temperature. [Co(1,10-phen)(3)][Bi(3)I(11)] (1), [Fe(1,10-phen)(3)][Bi(3)I(11)] (2), and [Zn(1,10-phen)(3)][Bi(3)I(11)] (3) are isostructural. They crystallize in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n and contain the unprecedented iodobismuthate anion, [Bi(3)I(11)](2-), which exhibits near D(3h) symmetry and has an unusual arrangement of three cis face-sharing BiI(6) octahedra. [Co(TMPhen)(3)](2)[Bi(2)I(9)][I] (4), which crystallizes in the trigonal space group P-31c, and [Co(tpy)(2)](2)[Bi(2)I(9)][I] (5) and [Zn(tpy)(2)](2)[Bi(2)I(9)][I] (6), which are isostructural and crystallize in the monoclinic space group C2/c, contain the discrete binuclear [Bi(2)I(9)](3-) anion, common in previously reported iodobismuthate compounds. In addition they contain unusual isolated I(-) anions, which are rarely encountered in iodobismuthate phases. Compounds 1-6 show constitutional similarities while utilizing different organic ligands and illustrate the sensitive dependence of reaction conditions on the identity of the halometalate anion formed. Additionally, all six compounds and the starting material BiI(3) are thermochromic; the origin of this behavior is spectroscopically and crystallographically investigated.  相似文献

In mononitrosyl complexes of transition metals two long-lived metastable states corresponding to linkage isomers of the nitrosyl ligand can be induced by irradiation with appropriate wavelengths. Upon irradiation, the N-bound nitrosyl ligand (ground state, GS) turns into two different conformations: isonitrosyl O bound for the metastable state 1 (MS1) and a side-on nitrosyl conformation for the metastable state 2 (MS2). Structural and spectroscopic investigations on [RuCl(NO)py(4)](PF(6))(2)·1/2H(2)O (py = pyridine) reveal a nearly 100% conversion from GS to MS1. In order to identify the factors which lead to this outstanding photochromic response we study in this work the influence of counteranions, trans ligands to the NO and equatorial ligands on the conversion efficiency: [RuX(NO)py(4)]Y(2)·nH(2)O (X = Cl and Y = PF(6)(-) (1), BF(4)(-) (2), Br(-)(3), Cl(-) (4); X = Br and Y = PF(6)(-) (5), BF(4)(-) (6), Br(-)(7)) and [RuCl(NO)bpy(2)](PF(6))(2) (8), [RuCl(2)(NO)tpy](PF(6)) (9), and [Ru(H(2)O)(NO)bpy(2)](PF(6))(3) (10) (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine; tpy = 2,2':6',2"-terpyridine). Structural and infrared spectroscopic investigations show that the shorter the distance between the counterion and the NO ligand the higher the population of the photoinduced metastable linkage isomers. DFT calculations have been performed to confirm the influence of the counterions. Additionally, we found that the lower the donating character of the ligand trans to NO the higher the photoconversion yield.  相似文献

Compared to earlier single site catalysts, greatly enhanced rates of electrocatalytic water oxidation by the Ru carbene catalyst [Ru(tpy)(Mebim-py)(OH(2))](2+) (tpy = 2,2':6',2'-terpyridine; Mebim-py = 3-methyl-1-pyridylbenzimidazol-2-ylidene) have been observed. The mechanism appears to be the same with proton coupled electron transfer (PCET) activation to Ru(V)=O(3+) followed by O-O coupling and further oxidation. An important factor in the enhanced reactivity of the carbene complex may come from increased driving force for the O-O bond forming step.  相似文献

We describe the synthesis and characterization of 4'-tert-butyl-2,2':6',2'-terpyridine (4'-(t)Butpy, 1), a convergent tpy ligand that exhibits both a sterically demanding and solubilizing 4'-substituent. In the solid state, molecules of 1 pack with alternating tpy and tert-butyl domains, and the bulky alkyl substituents prevent the molecules from engaging in the face-to-face π-interactions which are typical of simple tpy ligands. Instead, the predominant packing forces involve CH···N hydrogen bonds and weak CH···π contacts. The syntheses of the homoleptic complexes [M(1)(2)][PF(6)](2) (M = Fe, Co, Zn and Ru) and the heteroleptic [Ru(tpy)(1)][PF(6)](2) are described. The complexes have been fully characterized in solution, including the (1)H NMR spectroscopic characterization of the paramagnetic [Co(1)(2)][PF(6)](2). Cyclic voltammetric data are consistent with the tert-butyl substituent being slightly electron releasing. The single crystal structures of [Zn(1)(2)][PF(6)](2) and [Ru(1)(2)][PF(6)](2) have been determined; the compounds are essentially isomorphous. The packing of the cations is such that the tert-butyl substituents are accommodated in pockets between the tpy domains of adjacent cations, and as a consequence, the {M(tpy)(2)}-embrace that is a ubiquitous feature of many related structures is not observed.  相似文献

Two novel alkynyl-bridged symmetric bis-tridentate ligands 1,2-bis(1'-[4'-(2,2':6',2'-terpyridinyl)]ferrocenyl)ethyne (; tpy-Fc-C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-Fc-tpy; Fc = ferrocenyl; tpy = terpyridyl) and 1,4-bis(1'-[4'-(2,2':6',2'-terpyridinyl)]ferrocenyl)-1,3-butadiyne (; tpy-Fc-C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-Fc-tpy) and their Ru(2+) complexes and have been synthesized and characterized by cyclic voltammetry, UV-vis and luminescence spectroscopy, and in the case of by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Cyclic voltammograms of both compounds, and , display two severely overlapping ferrocene-based oxidative peaks with only one reductive peak. The redox behavior of and is dominated by the Ru(2+)/Ru(3+) redox couple (E(1/2) from 1.33 to 1.34 V), the Fe(2+)/Fe(3+) redox couples (E(1/2) from 0.46 to 0.80 V), and the tpy/tpy(-)/tpy(2-) redox couples (E(1/2) from -1.19 to -1.48 V). The UV-vis spectra of and show absorption bands assigned to the (1)[(d(π)(Fe))(6)] → (1)[(d(π)(Fe))(5)(π*(tpy)(Ru))(1)] MMLCT transition at ~555 nm. The cationic achiral and chiral terpyridine diphosphine ruthenium complexes [RuCl(PP)(tpy)]Cl (PP=dppp ( 1 ), (R,R)-Skewphos ( 2 ) and (S,S)-Skewphos ( 3 )) are easily obtained in 85–88 % yield through a one-pot synthesis from [RuCl2(PPh3)3], the diphosphine and 2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine (tpy) in 1-butanol. Treatment of 1 – 3 with NaPF6 in methanol at RT affords quantitatively the corresponding derivatives [RuCl(PP)(tpy)]PF6 (PP=dppp ( 1 a ), (R,R)-Skewphos ( 2 a ) and (S,S)-Skewphos ( 3 a )). Reaction of [RuCl2(PPh3)3] with (S,R)-Josiphos or (R)-BINAP in toluene, followed by treatment with tpy in 1-butanol and finally with NaPF6 in MeOH gives [RuCl(PP)(tpy)]PF6 (PP=(S,R)-Josiphos ( 4 a ), (R)-BINAP ( 5 a )) isolated in 78 % and 86 % yield, respectively. The chiral derivatives have been isolated as single stereoisomers and 3 a , 4 a have been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The tpy complexes with NaOiPr display high photocatalytic activity in the transfer hydrogenation (TH) of carbonyl compounds using 2-propanol as the only hydrogen donor and visible light at 30 °C, at remarkably high S/C (up to 5000) and TOF values up to 264 h−1. The chiral enantiomers 2 , 2 a and 3 , 3 a induce the asymmetric photocatalytic TH of acetophenone, affording (S)- and (R)-1-phenylethanol with 51 and 52 % ee, respectively, in a MeOH/2-propanol mixture.  相似文献

The dinuclear complex [(tpy)RuII(PCP-PCP)RuII(tpy)]Cl2 (bridging PCP-PCP = 3,3',5,5'-tetrakis(diphenylphosphinomethyl)biphenyl, [C6H2(CH2PPh2)2-3,5]22-) was prepared via a transcyclometalation reaction of the bis-pincer ligand [PC(H)P-PC(H)P] and the Ru(II) precursor [Ru(NCN)(tpy)]Cl (NCN = [C6H3(CH2NMe2)2-2,6]-) followed by a reaction with 2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine (tpy). Electrochemical and spectroscopic properties of [(tpy)RuII(PCP-PCP)RuII(tpy)]Cl2 are compared with those of the closely related [(tpy)RuII(NCN-NCN)RuII(tpy)](PF6)2 (NCN-NCN = [C6H2(CH2NMe2)2-3,5]22-) obtained by two-electron reduction of [(tpy)RuIII(NCN-NCN)RuIII(tpy)](PF6)4. The molecular structure of the latter complex has been determined by single-crystal X-ray structure determination. One-electron reduction of [(tpy)RuIII(NCN-NCN)RuIII(tpy)](PF6)4 and one-electron oxidation of [(tpy)RuII(PCP-PCP)RuII(tpy)]Cl2 yielded the mixed-valence species [(tpy)RuIII(NCN-NCN)RuII(tpy)]3+ and [(tpy)RuIII(PCP-PCP)RuII(tpy)]3+, respectively. The comproportionation equilibrium constants Kc (900 and 748 for [(tpy)RuIII(NCN-NCN)RuIII(tpy)]4+ and [(tpy)RuII(PCP-PCP)RuII(tpy)]2+, respectively) determined from cyclic voltammetric data reveal comparable stability of the [RuIII-RuII] state of both complexes. Spectroelectrochemical measurements and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy were employed to further characterize the different redox states with special focus on the mixed-valence species and their NIR bands. Analysis of these bands in the framework of Hush theory indicates that the mixed-valence complexes [(tpy)RuIII(PCP-PCP)RuII(tpy)]3+ and [(tpy)RuIII(NCN-NCN)RuII(tpy)]3+ belong to strongly coupled borderline Class II/Class III and intrinsically coupled Class III systems, respectively. Preliminary DFT calculations suggest that extensive delocalization of the spin density over the metal centers and the bridging ligand exists. TD-DFT calculations then suggested a substantial MLCT character of the NIR electronic transitions. The results obtained in this study point to a decreased metal-metal electronic interaction accommodated by the double-cyclometalated bis-pincer bridge when strong sigma-donor NMe2 groups are replaced by weak sigma-donor, pi-acceptor PPh2 groups.  相似文献

The electronic absorption spectra, luminescence spectra and lifetimes (in MeCN at room temperature and in frozen n-C3H7CN at 77 K), and electrochemical potentials (in MeCN) of the novel dinuclear [(tpy)Ru(3)Os(tpy)]4+ and trinuclear [(tpy)Ru(3)Os(3)Ru(tpy)]6- complexes (3 = 2,5-bis(2,2':6',2'-terpyridin-4-yl)thiophene) have been obtained and are compared with those of model mononuclear complexes and homometallic [(tpy)Ru(3)Ru(tpy)]4+, [(tpy)Os(3)Os(tpy)]4+ and [(tpy)Ru(3)Ru(3)Ru(tpy)]6+ Complexes. The bridging ligand 3 is nearly planar in the complexes, as seen from a preliminary X-ray determination of [(tpy)Ru(3)Ru(tpy)][PF6]4, and confers a high degree of rigidity upon the polynuclear species. The trinuclear species are rod-shaped with a distance of about 3 nm between the terminal metal centres. For the polynuclear complexes, the spectroscopic and electrochemical data are in accord with a significant intermetal interaction. All of the complexes are luminescent (phi in the range 10(-4)-10(-2) and tau in the range 6-340 ns, at room temperature), and ruthenium- or osmium-based luminescence properties can be identified. Due to the excited state properties of the various components and to the geometric and electronic properties of the bridge, Ru --> Os directional transfer of excitation energy takes place in the complexes [(tpy)Ru(3)Os(tpy)]4+ (end-to-end) and [(tpy)Ru(3)Os(3)Ru(tpy)]6+ (periphery-to-centre). With respect to the homometallic case, for [(tpy)Ru(3)Os(3)Ru(tpy)]6+ excitation trapping at the central position is accompanied by a fivefold enhancement of luminescence intensity.  相似文献

A strategy for designing cooperative outer-sphere two-electron platinum reagents is demonstrated. The novel platinum(II) complex, [Pt(tpy)(pip2NCN)][BF4] (1(BF4-)) (tpy = 2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine, pip2NCN- = 2,6-(CH2N(CH2)5)2-C6H3-), in which the metal is bonded to two pincer type ligands, has been prepared. Treatment of 1 with protic acid results in protonation of the pendant piperdyl groups, allowing for the isolation of [Pt(tpy)(pip2NCNH2)][PF6]3 (2(PF6-)3). 1H NMR spectra of 1 and 2 establish that in each complex the terpyridyl ligand is tridentate, whereas the piperdyl ligand is monodentate, bonded to platinum through the phenyl ring. The structure of the protonated complex was confirmed by an X-ray crystallographic study of crystals of 2(Cl-)3.4H2O. The cyclic voltammagram of 1 exhibits two reversible one-electron reduction waves at E degrees ' = -0.98 V and E degrees ' = -1.50 V (E degrees ' = (Epc + Epa)/2), with a DeltaEp of 65 and 61 mV, respectively. In contrast to other Pt(II) complexes, including 2, this complex also undergoes a nearly reversible two-electron oxidation process at E degrees ' = 0.40 V (DeltaEp = 43 mV, 0.01 V/s). The accumulated data are consistent with the unusual ligand architecture of 1 being capable of stabilizing and allowing for facile interconversion between the Pt(II) and Pt(IV) oxidation states.  相似文献

Supramolecular trimetallic complexes [((tpy)RuCl(BL))(2)RhCl(2)](3+) where tpy = 2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine and BL = dpp or bpm [dpp = 2,3-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine and bpm = 2,2'-bipyrimidine] have been synthesized and characterized. The mixed-metal complexes couple a reactive rhodium(III) center to two ruthenium(II) light absorbers to form a light absorber-electron collector-light absorber triad. The variation of the bridging (dpp and bpm) and terminal (tpy in lieu of bpy) ligands has some profound effects on the properties of these complexes, and they are remarkably different from the previously reported [((bpy)(2)Ru(bpm))(2)RhCl(2)](5+) system. The electrochemical data for both title trimetallics consist of overlapping Ru(III/II) couples for both terminal metals at 1.12 V versus the Ag/AgCl reference electrode. Cathodically an irreversible Rh(III/I) reduction followed by bridging ligand reductions is seen. This is indicative of highest occupied molecular orbitals (HOMO) localized on the terminal ruthenium metal centers and a lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) residing on the rhodium. This rhodium-based LUMO is in contrast to the bpy analogue [((bpy)(2)Ru(bpm))(2)RhCl(2)](5+), which has a bpm(pi) localized LUMO. This orbital inversion by terminal ligand variation illustrates the similar energy of these Rh(dsigma) and bpm(pi) orbitals within this structural motif. Both title trimetallics possess broad, low-energy Ru --> BL charge transfer absorbances at 540 nm (dpp) and 656 nm (bpm). A comparison of the spectroscopic, electrochemical, and spectroelectrochemical properties of these trimetallic complexes is presented.  相似文献

Aiming at highly efficient molecular catalysts for water oxidation, a mononuclear ruthenium complex Ru(II)(hqc)(pic)(3) (1; H(2)hqc = 8-hydroxyquinoline-2-carboxylic acid and pic = 4-picoline) containing negatively charged carboxylate and phenolate donor groups has been designed and synthesized. As a comparison, two reference complexes, Ru(II)(pdc)(pic)(3) (2; H(2)pdc = 2,6-pyridine-dicarboxylic acid) and Ru(II)(tpy)(pic)(3) (3; tpy = 2,2':6',2"-terpyridine), have also been prepared. All three complexes are fully characterized by NMR, mass spectrometry (MS), and X-ray crystallography. Complex 1 showed a high efficiency toward catalytic water oxidation either driven by chemical oxidant (Ce(IV) in a pH 1 solution) with a initial turnover number of 0.32 s(-1), which is several orders of magnitude higher than that of related mononuclear ruthenium catalysts reported in the literature, or driven by visible light in a three-component system with [Ru(bpy)(3)](2+) types of photosensitizers. Electrospray ionization MS results revealed that at the Ru(III) state complex 1 undergoes ligand exchange of 4-picoline with water, forming the authentic water oxidation catalyst in situ. Density functional theory (DFT) was employed to explain how anionic ligands (hqc and pdc) facilitate the 4-picoline dissociation compared with a neutral ligand (tpy). Electrochemical measurements show that complex 1 has a much lower E(Ru(III)/Ru(II)) than that of reference complex 2 because of the introduction of a phenolate ligand. DFT was further used to study the influence of anionic ligands upon the redox properties of mononuclear aquaruthenium species, which are postulated to be involved in the catalysis cycle of water oxidation.  相似文献

A highly efficient domino reaction starting from tetrahydroquinolinone and a series of bisiminium salts provides the corresponding bis(U-terpyridines). These ligands have been treated with [(tpy)RuCl3] to afford novel dinuclear complexes [(tpy)Ru(L)Ru(tpy)]4+. The protocol is also applied for the synthesis of a star-shaped tris(U-terpyridine) and the trinuclear complex [{(tpy)Ru}3(L)]6+. In view of potential applications in the fields of metallopolymers and molecular devices, the electronic spectra, as well as the electrochemical potentials of all the complexes have been obtained. According to these data, no significant intermetal interaction has been observed for the ruthenium complexes presented here.  相似文献
