This paper reports that the ground-state energy of polaron was obtained with strong electron-LO-phonon coupling by using a variational method of the Pekar type in a parabolic quantum dot. Quantum transition is occurred in the quantum system due to the electron-phonon interaction and the influence of temperature. That is the polaron transit from the ground-state to the first-excited state after absorbing a LO-phonon and it causes the change of the polaron lifetime. Numerical calculations are performed and the results illustrate that the ground-state lifetime of the polaron will increase with increasing the ground-state energy of polaron and decrease with increasing the electron-LO-phonon coupling strength, the confinement length of the quantum dot and the temperature.  相似文献

采用线性组合算符法和幺正变换法研究温度对抛物型量子阱中极化子基态能和基态结合能的影响. 通过理论推导得到极化子基态能和基态结合能的表达式. 结合量子统计力学中平均声子数的表达式, 得到极化子基态能量和基态结合能与温度的函数关系. 在不同温度下, 分别讨论了极化子基态能量和基态结合能与电子-声子耦合强度和阱宽的关系, 阱深取不同值时讨论了极化子基态能和基态结合能随温度的变化规律. 计算结果表明, 极化子的基态能量和基态结合能都是温度的递增函数.  相似文献

We have studied the dynamics and transport relaxation of a large polaron in a one-dimensional (1-D) system with an acoustic- (Debye) type phonon spectrum and a deformation potential electron-phonon interaction. The dynamics is treated in a collective coordinate formalism which shows that such a polaron moves as a heavy quasi-particle that carries energy and (crystal) momentum. For thermal energies less than the polaron binding energy, its transport relaxation is dominated by collision processes wherein a thermal phonon is reflected off the polaron with a momentum transfer that is small compared to the thermal polaron momentum. The phonon reflectivity is estimated and found to exhibit a maximum (resonance) for phonon wavelengths that match the polaron size. Furthermore, the reflectivity is largely independent of the polaron momentum. We incorporate these results into a semi-classical (Boltzmann) kinetic theory and obtain a polaron mobility that is independent of the polaron effective mass and decreases monotonically with increasing temperature. These results are compared to and found to be substantially different from those obtained recently for the large polaron in the 1-D molecular cystal model wherein the underlying phonon spectrum has optical (Einstein) character.To study the effects of three-dimensional (3-D) coupling on the 1-D polaron, we propose a simple 3-D extension of the 1-D acoustic model which includes both electronic and elastic interchain interactions. We briefly discuss the question of polaron stability in the presence of 3-D coupling and the criteria of validity for the purely 1-D treatment.  相似文献

Effect of temperature on the polaron stability in a one-dimensional organic lattice is investigated within the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model. The temperature effect is simulated by introducing random forces to the equation of the lattice motion. It is found that the localized polaron state becomes delocalized even at low temperatures. The time of polaron keeping localized depends on the magnitude of temperatures. By taking into account the thermal effect, we find that the dissociation field is weaker as compared with earlier works.  相似文献

We investigate the effect of plasmon screening on the polaron characteristics following the Feynman variational method and find that the screening considerably reduces the polaron characteristics, as plasmon density increases. We establish that the factor contributing to this screening not only depends on the concentration, but also on the anisotropy of the dielectric permittivities, the temperature, and charge as well as on the layer width. The contribution of the surface effects to the total polaron characteristics are exceedingly small and can therefore be safely neglected. The characteristics are found to be strongly dependent on the screen function referred to as the F-function, and when screening parameters vanish this F-function vanishes and the polaron characteristics reduce to the familiar non-screen ones. The decrease of the polaron characteristics with an increase of the screening parameter is not exactly exponential but mimics that of a pseudoatom which has a much more slow decrease.  相似文献

The crossover of large to small radius polaron is studied in terms of the inverse-relaxation time and temperature.It is found that the small radius polaron exists at higher temperature than the large radius polaron.A formula which relates the inverse-relaxation time to the ratio of arbitrary temperature and Debye temperature of the crystal is derived.The polaron crossover temperatures in NaCl and KBr are found from plotted graphs.The straight line emerging at the Debye temperature T_d of a graph reflects the increase of the inverse relaxation time for increasing temperature up to the collapse of the small radius polaron.The relationship between the small and large radius polarons is found and known ratios of the effective and the bare masses of the electrons for the two substances are used to validate our results.The small radius polaron's mass is later compared with the mass obtained from the hopping formula and is found to be approximately equal.Finally,we point out that the crossover temperature is material-specific since it depends on the Debye and the effective dielectric function.  相似文献

We investigate the effect of temperature on polaron dynamics in the framework of a tight-binding model. The dissociation of a polaron will become fast with the increase of temperature. There exists a crossover of the charge localization time from strong to weak temperature-dependence. Instead of the uniform motion at zero temperature, a polaron moves un-uniformly under a driven field at a finite temperature, which indicates a discrete hopping between base pairs. It is also found that the polaron motion is thermally activated. A high temperature will result in a fast movement of a polaron under a deriving field.  相似文献

The problem of the polaron spectrum is studied in a superlattice having narrow quantum wells and relatively wide potential barriers. A δ-like superlattice potential is chosen to solve the problem. This model is adequate, if the penetration depth of the electron wave function into the barrier region is much greater than the width of the quantum well. A weak-coupling polaron at low temperature is studied. Only volume phonons are considered. Expressions are obtained for the polaron mass and the shift of the polaron energy under these assumptions. To test the model, numerical calculations were performed for an InAs-GaSb superlattice, whose quantum wells are quite deep (the energy offset of the conduction bands in InAs and GaSb equals 830 meV), narrow (the width of a quantum well corresponds to the width of an InAs monolayer 6 Å), and the barrier width corresponding to the thickness of the GaSb layers equals 150 Å. The assumption that the penetration depth of the wave function is much greater than the barrier width holds well.  相似文献

By using the dispersion theory instead of the Fröhlich Hamiltonian, the polaron energy in a quantum dot with a parabolic confinement potential is investigated at finite temperatures. It is found that the self-trapping energy of the polaron decreases with the increasing temperature, and the temperature effect is more obvious in quantum dots with weaker confinement.  相似文献

A theory is developed for the formation of a nuclear spin polaron under optical cooling of nuclear spins in the vicinity of donor centers. It is shown that the polaron does not form above a certain limiting nuclear-spin temperature. For a shallow donor in GaAs, this temperature is about 10−7 K. The formation of a nuclear spin polaron should manifest itself in an anomalous increase of the spin relaxation time of the total spin of its component nuclei. Fiz. Tverd. The problem of a Pekar-Fröhlich polaron in a magnetic field is considered for weak electron-phonon interaction. A diagrammatic technique for zero temperature is developed. Previously obtained results for two dimensions are reproduced. For three dimensions the polaron ground-state energy and the longitudinal effective mass are derived in the first orders of the electron-phonon coupling constant for non-zero values of a magnetic field. In a strong magnetic field the bulk polaron is shown to be equivalent to a one-dimensional polaron with a renormalized electron-phonon coupling constant. This leads to exact results in the strong-coupling limit.  相似文献

The dynamics of a system for different types of polarons, i.e., in polythymine nucleotides (large-radius polaron), in polyadenine fragments (small-radius polaron), and in polyguanine DNA (intermediate case) at different thermostat temperatures are calculated using the semi-classical Holstein model. The temperature dependences of the thermodynamic equilibrium values of the total energy, the energy of an excess charge, and the electronic heat capacity have been obtained. For all polaron types, the peak of the electronic heat capacity dependence on temperature separates two modes (polaron and delocalized state). The electronic part of the energy is estimated in the high-temperature limit. In all cases, the electron heat capacity at high temperatures decreases in inverse proportion to the square of the temperature.  相似文献

Employing variational method of Pekar type(VMPT), this paper investigates the first-excited state energy(FESE), excitation energy and transition frequency of the strongly-coupled polaron in the Cs I quantum pseudodot(QPD)with electric field. The temperature effects on the strong-coupling polaron in electric field are calculated by using the quantum statistical theory(QST). The results from the present investigation show that the FESE, excitation energy and transition frequency increase(decrease) firstly and then at lower(higher) temperature regions. We investigate the electric field effect on the ground state (GS), the first-excited state (FES) and the excitation energies of a strong-coupled polaron in an asymmetric Gaussian potential (AGP) quantum well (QW) by using a variational method of the Pekar type (VMPT). By employing the quantum statistics theory (QST), we also study the temperature effects on the state energies (SE). It is found that the SE of polaron are an increasing function of temperature. With hydrogen-like impurity(HLI) located in the center of Cs I quantum pseudodot(QPD) and by using the variational method of Pekar type(VMPT), we investigate the first-excited state energy(FESE), excitation energy and transition frequency of the strongly-coupled bound polaron in the present paper. Temperature effects on bound polaron properties are calculated by employing the quantum statistical theory(QST). According to the present work's numerical results, the FESE, excitation energy and transition frequency decay(amplify) with raising temperature in the regime of lower(higher)temperature.
