In multiple objective linear programming (MOLP) problems the extraction of all the efficient extreme points becomes problematic as the size of the problem increases. One of the suggested actions, in order to keep the size of the efficient set to manageable limits, is the use of bounds on the values of the objective functions by the decision maker. The unacceptable efficient solutions are screened out from further investigation and the size of the efficient set is reduced. Although the bounding of the objective functions is widely used in practice, the effect of this action on the size of the efficient set has not been investigated. In this paper, we study the effect of individual and simultaneous bounding of the objective functions on the number of the generated efficient points. In order to estimate the underlying relationships, a computational experiment is designed, in which randomly generated multiple objective linear programming problems of various sizes are systematically examined.  相似文献

Various difficulties have been encountered in using decision set-based vector maximization methods to solve a multiple objective linear programming problem (MOLP). Motivated by these difficulties, some researchers in recent years have suggested that outcome set-based approaches should instead be developed and used to solve problem (MOLP). In this article, we present a finite algorithm, called the Outer Approximation Algorithm, for generating the set of all efficient extreme points in the outcome set of problem (MOLP). To our knowledge, the Outer Approximation Algorithm is the first algorithm capable of generating this set. As a by-product, the algorithm also generates the weakly efficient outcome set of problem (MOLP). Because it works in the outcome set rather than in the decision set of problem (MOLP), the Outer Approximation Algorithm has several advantages over decision set-based algorithms. It is also relatively easy to implement. Preliminary computational results for a set of randomly-generated problems are reported. These results tangibly demonstrate the usefulness of using the outcome set approach of the Outer Approximation Algorithm instead of a decision set-based approach. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We consider sensitivity analysis of the objective function coefficients in multiple objective linear programming (MOLP). We focus on the properties of the parameters set for which a given extreme solution is efficient. Moreover, we compare two approaches: the standard sensitivity analysis (changing only one coefficient) and the additive tolerance approach (changing all coefficients). We find the connections between these two approaches by giving a theorem describing the upper bound on the maximal additive tolerance.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a modification of Benson’s algorithm for solving multiobjective linear programmes in objective space in order to approximate the true nondominated set. We first summarize Benson’s original algorithm and propose some small changes to improve computational performance. We then introduce our approximation version of the algorithm, which computes an inner and an outer approximation of the nondominated set. We prove that the inner approximation provides a set of -nondominated points. This work is motivated by an application, the beam intensity optimization problem of radiotherapy treatment planning. This problem can be formulated as a multiobjective linear programme with three objectives. The constraint matrix of the problem relies on the calculation of dose deposited in tissue. Since this calculation is always imprecise solving the MOLP exactly is not necessary in practice. With our algorithm we solve the problem approximately within a specified accuracy in objective space. We present results on four clinical cancer cases that clearly illustrate the advantages of our method.  相似文献

We propose a decomposition algorithm for a special class of nonconvex mixed integer nonlinear programming problems which have an assignment constraint. If the assignment decisions are decoupled from the remaining constraints of the optimization problem, we propose to use a column enumeration approach. The master problem is a partitioning problem whose objective function coefficients are computed via subproblems. These problems can be linear, mixed integer linear, (non-)convex nonlinear, or mixed integer nonlinear. However, the important property of the subproblems is that we can compute their exact global optimum quickly. The proposed technique will be illustrated solving a cutting problem with optimum nonlinear programming subproblems.  相似文献

Several algorithms are available in the literature for finding the entire set of Pareto-optimal solutions of Multiobjective Linear Programmes (MOLPs). However, all of them are based on active-set methods (simplex-like approaches). We present a different method, based on a transformation of any MOLP into a unique lifted Semidefinite Program (SDP), the solutions of which encode the entire set of Pareto-optimal extreme point solutions of any MOLP. This SDP problem can be solved, among other algorithms, by interior point methods; thus unlike an active set-method, our method provides a new approach to find the set of Pareto-optimal solutions of MOLP.  相似文献

This paper suggests a method for finding efficient hyperplanes with variable returns to scale the technology in data envelopment analysis (DEA) by using the multiple objective linear programming (MOLP) structure. By presenting an MOLP problem for finding the gradient of efficient hyperplanes, We characterize the efficient faces. Thus, without finding the extreme efficient points of the MOLP problem and only by identifying the efficient faces of the MOLP problem, we characterize the efficient hyperplanes which make up the DEA efficient frontier. Finally, we provide an algorithm for finding the efficient supporting hyperplanes and efficient defining hyperplanes, which uses only one linear programming problem.  相似文献

The geometric duality theory of Heyde and Löhne (2006) defines a dual to a multiple objective linear programme (MOLP). In objective space, the primal problem can be solved by Benson’s outer approximation method (Benson 1998a,b) while the dual problem can be solved by a dual variant of Benson’s algorithm (Ehrgott et al. 2007). Duality theory then assures that it is possible to find the (weakly) nondominated set of the primal MOLP by solving its dual. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to solve the dual MOLP approximately but within specified tolerance. This approximate solution set can be used to calculate an approximation of the weakly nondominated set of the primal. We show that this set is a weakly ε-nondominated set of the original primal MOLP and provide numerical evidence that this approach can be faster than solving the primal MOLP approximately.  相似文献

We propose a column generation based exact decomposition algorithm for the problem of scheduling n jobs with an unrestrictively large common due date on m identical parallel machines to minimize total weighted earliness and tardiness. We first formulate the problem as an integer program, then reformulate it, using Dantzig–Wolfe decomposition, as a set partitioning problem with side constraints. Based on this set partitioning formulation, a branch and bound exact solution algorithm is developed for the problem. In the branch and bound tree, each node is the linear relaxation problem of a set partitioning problem with side constraints. This linear relaxation problem is solved by column generation approach where columns represent partial schedules on single machines and are generated by solving two single machine subproblems. Our computational results show that this decomposition algorithm is capable of solving problems with up to 60 jobs in reasonable cpu time.  相似文献

Various difficulties have been encountered in using decision set-based vector maximization methods to solve a multiple-objective linear programming problem (MOLP). Motivated by these difficulties, Benson recently developed a finite, outer-approximation algorithm for generating the set of all efficient extreme points in the outcome set, rather than in the decision set, of problem (MOLP). In this article, we show that the Benson algorithm also generates the set of all weakly efficient points in the outcome set of problem (MOLP). As a result, the usefulness of the algorithm as a decision aid in multiple objective linear programming is further enhanced.  相似文献

Finding an efficient or weakly efficient solution in a multiobjective linear programming (MOLP) problem is not a difficult task. The difficulty lies in finding all these solutions and representing their structures. Since there are many convenient approaches that obtain all of the (weakly) efficient extreme points and (weakly) efficient extreme rays in an MOLP, this paper develops an algorithm which effectively finds all of the (weakly) efficient maximal faces in an MOLP using all of the (weakly) efficient extreme points and extreme rays. The proposed algorithm avoids the degeneration problem, which is the major problem of the most of previous algorithms and gives an explicit structure for maximal efficient (weak efficient) faces. Consequently, it gives a convenient representation of efficient (weak efficient) set using maximal efficient (weak efficient) faces. The proposed algorithm is based on two facts. Firstly, the efficiency and weak efficiency property of a face is determined using a relative interior point of it. Secondly, the relative interior point is achieved using some affine independent points. Indeed, the affine independent property enable us to obtain an efficient relative interior point rapidly.  相似文献

In the multiple container loading cost minimization problem (MCLCMP), rectangular boxes of various dimensions are loaded into rectangular containers of various sizes so as to minimize the total shipping cost. The MCLCMP can be naturally modeled as a set cover problem. We generalize the set cover formulation by introducing a new parameter to model the gross volume utilization of containers in a solution. The state-of-the-art algorithm tackles the MCLCMP using the prototype column generation (PCG) technique. PCG is an effective technique for speeding up the column generation technique for extremely hard optimization problems where their corresponding pricing subproblems are NP-hard. We propose a new approach to the MCLCMP that combines the PCG technique with a goal-driven search. Our goal-driven prototype column generation (GD-PCG) algorithm improves the original PCG approach in three respects. Computational experiments suggest that all three enhancements are effective. Our GD-PCG algorithm produces significantly better solutions for the 350 existing benchmark instances than all other approaches in the literature using less computation time. We also generate two new set instances based on industrial data and the classical single container loading instances.  相似文献

Various difficulties arise in using decision set-based vector maximization methods to solve a multiple-objective linear programming problem (MOLP). Motivated by these difficulties, some researchers in recent years have begun to develop tools for analyzing and solving problem (MOLP) in outcome space, rather than in decision space. In this article, we present and validate a new hybrid vector maximization approach for solving problem (MOLP) in outcome space. The approach systematically integrates a simplicial partitioning technique into an outer approximation procedure to yield an algorithm that generates the set of all efficient extreme points in the outcome set of problem (MOLP) in a finite number of iterations. Some key potential practical and computational advantages of the approach are indicated.  相似文献

This paper modifies the affine-scaling primal algorithm to multiobjective linear programming (MOLP) problems. The modification is based on generating search directions in the form of projected gradients augmented by search directions pointing toward what we refer to as anchoring points. These anchoring points are located on the boundary of the feasible region and, together with the current, interior, iterate, define a cone in which we make the next step towards a solution of the MOLP problem. These anchoring points can be generated in more than one way. In this paper we present an approach that generates efficient anchoring points where the choice of termination solution available to the decision maker at each iteration consists of a set of efficient solutions. This set of efficient solutions is being updated during the iterative process so that only the most preferred solutions are retained for future considerations. Current MOLP algorithms are simplex-based and make their progress toward the optimal solution by following an exterior trajectory along the vertices of the constraints polytope. Since the proposed algorithm makes its progress through the interior of the constraints polytope, there is no need for vertex information and, therefore, the search for an acceptable solution may prove less sensitive to problem size. We refer to the resulting class of MOLP algorithms that are based on the affine-scaling primal algorithm as affine-scaling interior multiobjective linear programming (ASIMOLP) algorithms.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a decomposition-based branch-and-bound (DBAB) algorithm for solving two-stage stochastic programs having mixed-integer first- and second-stage variables. A modified Benders' decomposition method is developed, where the Benders' subproblems define lower bounding second-stage value functions of the first-stage variables that are derived by constructing a certain partial convex hull representation of the two-stage solution space. This partial convex hull is sequentially generated using a convexification scheme such as the Reformulation-Linearization Technique (RLT) or lift-and-project process, which yields valid inequalities that are reusable in the subsequent subproblems by updating the values of the first-stage variables. A branch-and-bound algorithm is designed based on a hyperrectangular partitioning process, using the established property that any resulting lower bounding Benders' master problem defined over a hyperrectangle yields the same objective value as the original stochastic program over that region if the first-stage variable solution is an extreme point of the defining hyperrectangle or the second-stage solution satisfies the binary restrictions. We prove that this algorithm converges to a global optimal solution. Some numerical examples and computational results are presented to demonstrate the efficacy of this approach.  相似文献

Linearly constrained minimax optimization   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We present an algorithm for nonlinear minimax optimization subject to linear equality and inequality constraints which requires first order partial derivatives. The algorithm is based on successive linear approximations to the functions defining the problem. The resulting linear subproblems are solved in the minimax sense subject to the linear constraints. This ensures a feasible-point algorithm. Further, we introduce local bounds on the solutions of the linear subproblems, the bounds being adjusted automatically, depending on the quality of the linear approximations. It is proved that the algorithm will always converge to the set of stationary points of the problem, a stationary point being defined in terms of the generalized gradients of the minimax objective function. It is further proved that, under mild regularity conditions, the algorithm is identical to a quadratically convergent Newton iteration in its final stages. We demonstrate the performance of the algorithm by solving a number of numerical examples with up to 50 variables, 163 functions, and 25 constraints. We have also implemented a version of the algorithm which is particularly suited for the solution of restricted approximation problems. This work has been supported by the Danish Natural Science Research Council, Grant No. 511-6874.  相似文献

We present a Dantzig–Wolfe procedure for the ship scheduling problem with flexible cargo sizes. This problem is similar to the well-known pickup and delivery problem with time windows, but the cargo sizes are defined by intervals instead of by fixed values. The flexible cargo sizes have consequences for the times used in the ports because both the loading and unloading times depend on the cargo sizes. We found it computationally hard to find exact solutions to the subproblems, so our method does not guarantee to find the optimum over all solutions. To be able to say something about how good our solution is, we generate a bound on the difference between the true optimal objective and the objective in our solution. We have compared our method with an a priori column generation approach, and our computational experiments on real world cases show that our Dantzig–Wolfe approach is faster than the a priori generation of columns, and we are able to deal with larger or more loosely constrained instances. By using the techniques introduced in this paper, a more extensive set of real world cases can be solved either to optimality or within a small deviation from optimality.  相似文献

The sales force deployment problem arises in many selling organizations. This complex planning problem involves the concurrent resolution of four interrelated subproblems: sizing of the sales force, sales representatives locations, sales territory alignment, and sales resource allocation. The objective is to maximize the total profit. For this, a well-known and accepted concave sales response function is used. Unfortunately, literature is lacking approaches that provide valid upper bounds. Therefore, we propose a model formulation with an infinite number of binary variables. The linear relaxation is solved by column generation where the variables with maximum reduced costs are obtained analytically. For the optimal objective function value of the linear relaxation an upper bound is provided. To obtain a very tight gap for the objective function value of the optimal integer solution we introduce a Branch-and-Price approach. Moreover, we propose explicit contiguity constraints based on flow variables. In a series of computational studies we consider instances which may occur in the pharmaceutical industry. The largest instance comprises 50 potential locations and more than 500 sales coverage units. We are able to solve this instance in 1273 seconds with a gap of less than 0.01%. A comparison with Drexl and Haase (1999) shows that we are able to halve the solution gap due to tight upper bounds provided by the column generation procedure.  相似文献

In this paper an algorithm is developed to generate all nondominated extreme points and edges of the set of objective values of a multiple objective linear program. The approach uses simplex tableaux but avoids generating unnecessary extreme points or bases of extreme points. The procedure is based on, and improves, an algorithm Dauer and Liu developed for this problem. Essential to this approach is the work of Gal and Kruse on the neighborhood problem of determining all extreme points of a convex polytope that are adjacent to a given (degenerate) extreme point of the set. The algorithm will incorporate Gal's degeneracy graph approach to the neighborhood problem with Dauer's objective space analysis of multiple objective linear programs.  相似文献
