Three new poly(p‐phenylenevinylene)‐based polymers containing two 1,3,4‐oxadiazole moieties in the main chain per repeat unit were synthesized by Heck coupling. A single, double, or triple bond was introduced between the oxadiazoles to provide a means for modifying the polymer properties. The polymers were readily soluble in common organic solvents and showed Tg values lower than 50 °C. The color of the emissive light in both the solid state and the solution could be tuned by a change in the nature of the bond between the oxadiazole rings. The polymers emitted ultraviolet‐green light in solution with a photoluminescence (PL) emission maximum at 345–483 nm and blue‐green light at 458–542 nm in thin films. The PL quantum yields in solution were 0.36–0.43. The electrochemical properties are affected by the nature of the bond between the oxadiazoles as well. In polymers with a single bond between the oxadiazoles, a lower ionization potential was observed than in polymers with a double or triple bond. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new series of poly(ortho‐phenylazonaphthol) derivatives linked with a phenylene or fluorene repeat unit was synthesized using the Suzuki cross‐coupling reaction and characterized. The synthesized polymers can be categorized by their structures, with a free hydroxyl group and with a t‐Boc‐blocked hydroxyl group, which exhibited completely different UV‐vis absorption properties according to the allowed or forbidden tautomerism. In both cases, a pronounced color change to deep violet (bathochromic shift) was induced upon exposure to fluoride anion, presumably because of electron transfer between the hydroxyl group and the fluoride anion. Interestingly, the chromogenic pattern could be produced directly by UV irradiation through a photomask on the flexible nanofiber web electrospun from poly(methyl methacrylate) blended with t‐Boc‐protected Polymer 8 and photoinduced acid generator. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel conjugated poly[(fluorene‐2,7‐vinylene)‐alt‐(1,4‐phenylenevinylene)] derivative 2 with quaternizable tertiary amino groups was synthesized by Heck coupling of a substituted 2,7‐dibromofluorene and 1,4‐dialkoxy‐2,5‐divinylbenzene. The corresponding quaternary ammonium cationic polyelectrolyte 3 was obtained by the treatment of 2 with bromoethane. Both polymers were soluble in common organic solvents, like tetrahydrofuran, chloroform, and dichloromethane. Polymer 3 showed a limited solubility in alcohols and was insoluble in water. Photophysical and electrochemical properties of the resulting polymers were fully investigated. An intensive green photoluminescence (PL) with maxima at 550 and 545 nm was observed from thin films of 2 and 3 polymers, respectively, red‐shifted compared with the PL emission spectra measured in the solution. The electrochemical band gaps were 2.38–2.45 eV. Single‐layer and double‐layer (with poly[3,4‐(ethylenedioxy)thiophene]/poly (styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)) light‐emitting devices (LEDs) with ITO and Al electrodes were prepared and studied. They emitted a green light and their electroluminescence (EL) spectra were similar to those of PL thin films. The external EL efficiency was determined to be 0.43 and 0.32% for ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ 2 /Al and ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ 3 /Al LEDs, respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis and optical properties of polymers bearing the repeating unit of terfluorene and various organosilicon groups were investigated. Polymers with high molecular weight and good solubility could be obtained by Suzuki coupling polymerization from silylene‐containing fluorene‐based dibromo monomers and 9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐bis(trimethyleneborate). From UV spectra of polymers bearing acyclic silylene bridge, the organosilicon units not only interrupted a π‐conjugation but also contributed to an electronic communication between connected fluorenes. The emission maximum wavelengths (ca. 400 nm) blue‐shifted when compared with that of polyfluorene (418 nm) and the fluorescence quantum yields were considerably high (>0.82) in the CHCl3 solution. On the other hand, rather broad emission was observed at 480 nm and the fluorescence quantum yield was quite low (0.004) in the solution‐state PL spectrum of tetraphenylsilole‐containing polymer. The polymer emitted visible green light in the spin‐coated film. The fluorescence peak intensity at 486 nm gradually decreased when the film was illuminated with the UV light of 359 nm in air. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐vinylene‐alt‐dibenzothiophene‐2,8‐vinylene) (PS) and poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐vinylene‐alt‐dibenzothiophene‐5,5‐dioxide‐2,8‐ vinylene) (PSO) as well as corresponding model compounds were synthesized by Heck coupling. Both the polymers and model compounds were readily soluble in common organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran, dichloromethane, chloroform, and toluene. The polymers showed a decomposition temperature at ~430 °C and a char yield of about 65% at 800 °C in N2. The glass‐transition temperatures of the polymers were almost identical (75–77 °C) and higher than those of the model compounds (26–45 °C). All samples absorbed around 390 nm, and their optical band gaps were 2.69–2.85 eV. They behaved as blue‐greenish light emitting materials in both solutions and thin films, with photoluminescence emission maxima at 450–483 nm and photoluminescence quantum yields of 0.52–0.72 in solution. Organic light‐emitting diodes with an indium tin oxide/poly(ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonic acid)/polymer/Mg:Ag/Ag configuration with polymers PS and PSO as emitting layers showed green electroluminescence with maxima at 530 and 540 nm, respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new triphenylamine‐based aromatic dicarboxylic acid monomer, 4‐tert‐butyl‐4′,4″‐dicarboxytriphenylamine ( 2 ), was synthesized from the cesium fluoride mediated N,N‐diarylation reaction of 4‐tert‐butylaniline with 4‐fluorobenzonitrile and subsequent alkaline hydrolysis of the dinitrile intermediate. A series of six aromatic polyamides 4a‐4f with tert‐butyltriphenylamine groups was prepared from the newly synthesized dicarboxylic acid and various aromatic diamines. These polyamides were readily soluble in many organic solvents and could be solution‐cast into flexible and strong films. The glass‐transition temperatures of these polymers were in the range of 274–311 °C. These polymers exhibited strong UV‐vis absorption bands at 356–366 nm in NMP solution. Their photoluminescence spectra showed maximum bands around 433–466 nm in the blue region. Cyclic voltammograms of all the polyamides exhibited reversible oxidation redox couples in acetonitrile. The polyamide 4f, with tert‐butyltriphenylamine segment in both diacid and diamine residues, exhibited stable electrochromic characteristics with a color change from a colorless neutral form, through a green semioxidized form, to a deep purple fully oxidized form. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new triphenylamine‐containing diamine monomer, 4,4′‐diamino‐4″‐tert‐butyltriphenylamine, was successfully synthesized by the cesium fluoride‐mediated N,N‐diarylation of 4‐tert‐butylaniline with 4‐fluoronitrobenzene, followed by the reduction of the nitro group. The obtained diamine monomer was reacted with various aromatic dicarboxylic acids and tetracarboxylic dianhydrides to produce two series of novel triphenylamine‐based polyamides and polyimides with pendent tert‐butyl substituents. Most of the polymers were readily soluble in polar organic solvents, such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone and N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc), and could be solution cast into tough and flexible polymer films. These polymers showed high glass transition temperatures between 282 and 320 °C, and they were fairly stable up to a temperature above 450 °C (for polyamides) or 500 °C (for polyimides). These polymers exhibited UV absorption maxima around 308 to 361 nm. The photoluminescence spectra of the polyamides in DMAc exhibited a peak emission wavelength in the blue at 421–433 nm. Cyclic voltammograms of polyamides and polyimides showed an oxidation wave at 1.0–1.1 V versus Ag/AgCl in an acetonitrile solution. All the polyamides and polyimides exhibited excellent reversibility of electrochromic characteristics by continuous several cyclic scans between 0.0 and 1.1–1.3 V, with a color change from the original pale yellowish neutral form to the green or blue oxidized forms. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel blue‐emitting germanium‐containing poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) (PPV) derivatives with well‐defined conjugation lengths were synthesized via Wittig‐condensation polymerizations. The polymers can be color‐tuned by the introduction of various chromophores into the PPV‐based polymer backbones. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the polymers, GePVK (containing carbazole moieties), GeMEH (containing dialkoxybenzene moieties), and GePTH (containing phenothiazine moieties), were found to exhibit blue, greenish blue, and green emissions, respectively. GePTH produces more red‐shifted emission than GeMEH and GEPVK, resulting in green emission, and the solution and solid state PL spectra of GePVK consist of almost blue emission. The electroluminescence spectra of GeMEH and GePTH contain yellowy green and yellow colors, respectively. Interestingly, GePVK exhibits white emission with CIE coordinates of (0.33, 0.37) due to electroplex emission in the light‐emitting diodes. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel conjugated polymers containing 3,9‐ or 2,9‐linked carbazole units in the main chain were synthesized by the polycondensation of ethynyl‐ and iodo‐substituted 9‐arylenecarbazolylene monomers, and their optical and electrical properties were studied. Polymers with weight‐average molecular weights of 3400–12,000 were obtained in 76–99% yields by the Sonogashira coupling polycondensation in piperidine or tetrahydrofuran (THF)/piperidine at 30 °C for 48 h. All the 3,9‐linked polymers absorbed light around 300 nm. The para‐phenylene‐linked polymer also absorbed light around 350 nm, while meta‐phenylene‐linked one did not. The 3,9‐linked polymers absorbed light at a wavelength longer than the 2,9‐linked one. The polymers emitted blue fluorescence with high quantum yields (0.21–0.78) upon excitation at the absorption maxima. The polymers were oxidized around 0.6 V, and reduced around 0.5 V. Poly( 1 ) showed the dark conductivity of 3.7 × 10?11 S/cm (103 V/cm). © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 3506–3517, 2009  相似文献

Three new poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) derivatives—PO, POD, and POP—with oxadiazole and pyridine rings along the main chain were synthesized via Heck coupling. The polymers were amorphous and dissolved readily in common organic solvents. They showed relatively low glass‐transition temperatures (up to 42 °C) and satisfactory thermal stability. Solutions of the polymers emitted blue‐greenish light with photoluminescence (PL) emission maxima around 460 nm and PL quantum yields of 0.28–0.49. Thin films of the polymers displayed PL emission maxima at 461–521 nm, and their tendency to form aggregates was significantly influenced by the chemical structure. Light‐emitting diodes with polymers PO and POP, with an indium tin oxide/poly(ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT)/polymer/Ca configuration, emitted yellow and green light, respectively, and this could be attributed to excimer emission. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 2,6‐bis(4‐Distyrylpyridine) ( 1 ) was synthesized by the condensation of 2,6‐dimethylpyridine with 4‐bromobenzaldehyde. Two new series of soluble random or alternating polyfluorenes ( PF‐Py ) and poly‐p‐phenylenes ( PP‐Py ) with various compositions were prepared by Suzuki coupling utilizing 1 as a comonomer. These polymers showed optical band gaps of 3.00–3.07 eV and photoluminescence (PL) quantum yields in solution of 0.37–0.91 for PF‐Py and 0.29–0.38 for PP‐Py . Polymers PF‐Py emitted blue light with PL maximum at 410–424 nm in solution and 406–428 nm in thin films that was red shifted with increasing distyrylpyridine content. Polymers PP‐Py behaved as blue emitters both in solution and in solid state, with PL maximum at 416–436 nm. The optical properties of these polymers could be tuned by the reversible protonation–deprotonation process of the pyridine ring. The emitted color of the polymers in solution and thin film could be changed continuously between blue and green (PL maximum up to about 520 nm) by exposing the polymers to the acid or base environment. Thin films of PF‐Py displayed excellent color stability with a small red shift of 10 nm but without additional emission band in the long wave region of the spectrum, even after being annealed at high temperature for a long time. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new poly(p‐phenylene vinylene) derivatives OX1‐PPV and OX2‐PPV bearing two 1,3,4‐oxadiazole rings per repeat unit and a fully conjugated backbone with solubilizing dodecyloxy side groups were synthesized and investigated. The amorphous conjugated polymers had glass‐transition temperature values of 60–75 °C and emitted intense blue or greenish‐blue light in solution with photoluminescence (PL) emission maxima at 379–492 nm and PL quantum yields of 0.41–0.52. In the solid state they emitted yellowish‐green light with PL emission maxima at 533–555 nm. Cyclic voltammetry showed that both conjugated polymers had reversible reduction and irreversible oxidation, making them n‐type materials. The electron affinity of OX2‐PPV was estimated as 2.85 eV whereas that of OX1‐PPV was 2.75 eV. Yellow electroluminescence (EL) was achieved from single‐layer light‐emitting diodes of OX2‐PPV with an EL emission maximum at 555 nm and a brightness of 70 cd/m2. Polymer OX2‐PPV, which was functionalized with 2,6‐bis(1,3,4‐oxadiazole‐2‐yl)pyridine, demonstrated sensitivity to various metal ions as a fluorescence‐mode chemosensor. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the synthesis, thermal, one‐ and two‐photon properties of poly(2,6‐bis(p‐dihexylaminostyryl)anthracene‐9,10‐diyl‐altN‐octylcarbazole‐3,6‐/2,7‐diyl) ( P1/P2 ). The as‐synthesized polymers exhibit number‐average molecular weights of 1.7 × 104 for P1 and 2.1 × 104 g/mol for P2 . They emit strong one‐ and two‐photon excitation fluorescence with the peak around 502 nm, and the fluorescence quantum yields around 0.76 in chloroform. In film state, P1 and P2 show different red‐shift emission with the peaks at 512 nm and 523 nm, respectively. The DSC measurement reveals that as‐synthesized polymers are all amorphous aggregates with the glass transition temperatures of 131 °C for P1 and 152 °C for P2 . The solution two‐photon absorption (TPA) properties of P1 and P2 in chloroform are measured by the two‐photon‐induced fluorescence method using femtosecond laser pulses (120 fs). The TPA cross sections (δ) are measured over the range of 700–900 nm. The maximal δ of P1 and P2 all appear at ~800 nm and are 1010 GM and 940 GM per repeating unit, respectively. This suggests that no notable interactions among structure units that impair their fluorescence and TPA properties, and the polymers with large δ can be obtained by using the high TPA‐active units as building blocks. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Five fluorescence polymers with poly(perylene‐alt‐phenyleneethynylene)s (PPPEs) backbone and multiple side chains containing ester‐groups were synthesized via Sonogashira coupling reaction. These polymers were soluble in common organic solvents to form red‐orange solution. The polymer powders had dark red color. The absorption/emission spectra of these polymers were similar, with absorption bands between 300 and 600 nm and an emission peak between 520 and 700 nm. Furthermore, the ester groups of the side chains were partially or completely hydrolyzed, resulting in the fluorescence PPPEs with tunable density of carboxylic acid functional groups on the polymer chains as interaction/reaction sites for further applications. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new bipyridine‐functionalized dithioester was synthesized and further used as a RAFT agent in RAFT polymerization of styrene and N‐isopropylacrylamide. Kinetics analysis indicates that it is an efficient chain transfer agent for RAFT polymerization of the two monomers which produce polystyrene and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) polymers with predetermined molecular weights and low polydispersities in addition to the end functionality of bipyridine. The bipyridine end‐functionalized polymers were further used as macroligands for the preparation of star‐shaped metallopolymers. Hydrophobic polystyrene macroligand combined with hydrophiphilic poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) was complexed with ruthenium ions to produce amphiphilic ruthenium‐cored star‐shaped metallopolymers. The structures of these synthesized metallopolymers were further elucidated by UV–vis, fluorescence, size exclusion chromatography (SEC), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) as well as NMR techniques. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copolymers containing oligo(phenylene vinylene) (2.5), fluorene, and 4,4‐dihexyldithienosilole (DTS) units were synthesized and characterized. The π‐conjugated monomers were joined with the palladium(0)‐catalyzed Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reaction, thus forming either biphenyl– or phenyl–thiophene linkages. These polymers were photoluminescent, with the fluorescent quantum efficiency between 54 and 63% and with λmax for fluorescence at ~448 nm in tetrahydrofuran. The presence of 5% DTS in the copolymers had little influence on the optical absorption and emission wavelengths. Double‐layer light‐emitting‐diode devices using these polymers as emissive layers had low turn‐on voltages (3.5–4 V) and moderate external quantum efficiencies (0.14–0.30%). The results show that DTS plays a positive role in improving the charge‐injection characteristics of poly(phenylene vinylene) materials. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(p‐divinylene phenylene) derivatives bearing fluorene and carbazole units in the main chain and 5‐phenyl‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole moieties as side groups were prepared by the polycondensation of a newly synthesized monomer, [2‐(5′‐phenyl‐1′,3′,4′‐oxadiazole‐2′‐yl)‐1,4‐xylylene]bis(triphenyl phosphonium bromide) (OXAD), with 9,9‐dibutylfluorene‐2,2′‐dicarbaldehyde (DBFDA) and 9‐(2‐ethylhexyl)carbazole‐3,6‐dicarbaldehyde (EHCDA), which gave DBFDA–OXAD and EHCDA–OXAD. Analogues of these polymers without the side groups were also synthesized by the reaction of 1,4‐xylene bis(triphenyl phosphonium bromide) (PXYL) with the dicarbaldehydes, which gave DBFDA–PXYL and EHCDA–PXYL. All the synthesized polymers are soluble in organic solvents, giving films of good quality. The polymers are stable beyond 375 °C. They emit blue and blue‐green light, and their quantum yields are 38–79% in solution and 1–24% in film, depending on the fluorene and carbazole units as well as the side groups. In particular, the OXAD‐based polymers contain hole‐facilitating backbones and electron‐facilitating side groups, perhaps allowing these polymers to transport both holes and electrons. Overall, the synthesized polymers are potential candidates for the fabrication of light‐emitting devices. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 1173–1183, 2002  相似文献

Poly(phenylenevinylene‐alt‐fluorenevinylene) ( PF ) or poly(fluorenevinylene) ( F ) derivatives that carried alkyl chains with terminal tertiary amino groups were successfully synthesized via Heck coupling. They were postquaternized by reacting with bromoethane to the corresponding cationic polyelectrolytes PFQ and FQ . The neutral polymers PF and F as well as the quaternized polymer FQ were soluble in common organic solvents such as THF, chloroform, dichloromethane, and toluene. In contrast, the quaternized polymer PFQ did not dissolve in these solvents but was soluble in environmentally friendlier solvents like water and alcohols. The neutral precursors exhibited higher thermal stability and glass‐transition temperatures than the corresponding quaternized counterparts. All polymers emitted intense blue‐greenish light in solution (462–489 nm) with relatively high photoluminescence (PL) quantum yields 0.32–0.57, and as thin films (475–557 nm) with optical band gaps of 2.48–2.57 eV. The water soluble PFQ could find potential applications as chemo or biosensor. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 1481–1491, 2007  相似文献

A copolymer of 1‐(4‐fluorophenyl)‐2,5‐di(thiophen‐2‐yl)‐1H‐pyrrole (FPTP) with 3,4‐ethylene dioxythiophene (EDOT) was electrochemically synthesized and characterized. While poly(FPTP) (P(FPTP)) has only two colors in its oxidized and neutral states (blue and yellow), its copolymer with EDOT has five different colors (purple, red, light gray, green, and blue). Electrochromic devices based on P(FPTP‐co‐EDOT) and poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) were constructed and characterized. The oxidized state of the device shows blue color whereas it shows purple for the reduced state. At several potentials the device has good transparency with green and gray colors. Maximum contrast (Δ%T) and switching time of the device were measured as 23% and 1.1 s at 555 nm. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 4496–4503, 2007  相似文献
