Ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of (L,L)‐lactide (LA) has been initiated by dibutyltin dimethoxide in supercritical carbon dioxide (sc CO2). Polymerization is controlled and proceeds at quasi the same rate as in toluene, which indicates that the reactivity of the propagating species is not impaired by parasitic carbonation reaction. Random copolymerization of LA with ?‐caprolactone (CL) has also been studied in sc CO2, and the reactivity ratios have been determined as 5.8 ± 0.5 for LA and 0.7 ± 0.25 for CL. These values have to be compared to 0.7 ± 0.25 for LA and 0.15 ± 0.05 for CL in toluene. Good control on ROP of CL and LA in sc CO2 has been confirmed by the successful synthesis of diblock copolymers by sequential polymerization of CL and LA. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cationic copolymerization of racemic‐β‐butyrolactone (β‐BL) with l,l ‐lactide (LA) initiated by alcohol and catalyzed by trifluoromethanesulfonic acid proceeding by activated monomer (AM) mechanism was investigated. Although both comonomers were present from the beginning in the reaction mixture, polymerization proceeded in sequential manner, with poly‐BL formed at the first stage acting as a macroinitiator for the subsequent polymerization of LA. Such course of copolymerization was confirmed by following the consumption of both comonomers throughout the process as well as by observing the changes of growing chain‐end structure using 1H NMR. 13C NMR analysis and thermogravimetry revealed the block structure of resulting copolymers. The proposed mechanism of copolymerization was confirmed by the studies of changes of 1H NMR chemical shift of acidic proton in the course of copolymerization, providing an indication that indeed protonated species and hydroxyl groups are present throughout the process, as required for AM mechanism. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Seven magnesium complexes ( 1–7 ) were synthesized by reaction of new ( L 3 ‐H – L 5 ‐H ) and previously reported ketoimine pro‐ligands with dibutyl magnesium and were isolated in 59–70% yields. Complexes 1–7 were characterized fully and consisted of bis‐ligated homoleptic ketoiminates coordinated in distorted octahedral geometry around the magnesium centers. The complexes were investigated for their ability to initiate the ring opening polymerization (ROP) of l ‐lactide (L‐LA) to poly‐lactic acid (PLA) and ?‐caprolactone (?CL) to poly‐caprolactone in the presence of 4‐fluorophenol co‐catalyst. For L‐LA polymerization, complexes containing ligand electron‐donating groups ( 1–5 ) achieved >90% conversion in 2 h at 100 °C, while the presence of CF3 groups in 6 and 7 slowed or resulted in no PLA detected. With ?CL, ROP initiated with 1–7 resulted in lower percentage conversion with similar electronic effects. Moderate molecular weight PLA polymeric material (14.3–21.3 kDa) with low polydispersity index values (1.23–1.56) was obtained, and ROP appeared to be living in nature. Copolymerization of L‐LA and ?CL yielded block copolymers only from the sequential polymerization of ?CL followed by L‐LA and not the reverse sequence of monomers or the simultaneous presence of both monomers. Polymers and copolymers were characterized with NMR, gel permeation chromatography, and differential scanning calorimetry. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. The cationic ring‐opening polymerization of 3,3‐bis(hydroxymethyl)oxetane (BHMO) and the copolymerization of BHMO with 3‐ethyl‐3‐(hydroxymethyl)oxetane (EOX) were studied. Medium molecular weight polymers (number‐average molecular weight ≈ 2 × 103) were obtained in bulk polymerization. Poly[3,3‐bis(hydroxymethyl)oxetane], as highly insoluble, was only characterized by gel permeation chromatography and NMR methods in the esterified form. Copolymers of BHMO and EOX that were slightly soluble in organic solvents were characterized in more detail. In a copolymerization from a 1:1 mixture, the comonomers were consumed at equal rates. Matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight analysis confirmed that a random 1:1 copolymer was formed. 13C NMR analysis indicated that in contrast to previously described homopolymers of EOX in which the degree of branching was limited, the homopolymers of BHMO were highly branched. This pattern was preserved in the copolymers; EOX units were predominantly linear, whereas BHMO units were predominantly branched. The copolymerization of BHMO with EOX provides, therefore, a route to multihydroxyl branched‐polyethers with various degrees of branching containing ? OH groups exclusively as ≡C? CH2? OH units. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 1991–2002, 2002  相似文献

A novel biodegradable aliphatic poly(L ‐lactide‐co‐carbonate) bearing pendant acetylene groups was successfully prepared by ring‐opening copolymerization of L ‐lactide (LA) with 5‐methyl‐5‐propargyloxycarbonyl‐1,3‐dioxan‐2‐one (PC) in the presence of benzyl alcohol as initiator with ZnEt2 as catalyst in bulk at 100 °C and subsequently used for grafting 2‐azidoethyl β‐D ‐glucopyranoside and 2‐azidoethyl β‐lactoside by the typical “click reaction,” that is Cu(I)‐catalyzed cycloaddition of azide and alkyne. The density of acetylene groups in the copolymer can be tailored by the molar ratio of PC to LA during the copolymerization. The aliphatic copolymers grafted with sugars showed low cytotoxicity to L929 cells, improved hydrophilic properties and specific recognition and binding ability with lectins, that is Concanavalin A (Con A) and Ricinus communis agglutinin (RCA). Therefore, this kind of sugar‐grafted copolymer could be a good candidate in variety of biomedical applications. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The cationic homopolymerization and copolymerization of L,L ‐lactide and ε‐caprolactone in the presence of alcohol have been studied. The rate of homopolymerization of ε‐caprolactone is slightly higher than that of L,L ‐lactide. In the copolymerization, the reverse order of reactivities has been observed, and L,L ‐lactide is preferentially incorporated into the copolymer. Both the homopolymerization and copolymerization proceed by an activated monomer mechanism, and the molecular weights and dispersities are controlled {number‐average degree of polymerization = ([M]0 ? [M]t)/[I]0, where [M]0 is the initial monomer concentration, [M]t is the monomer concentration at time t, and [I]0 is the initial initiator concentration; weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight ~1.1–1.3}. An analysis of 13C NMR spectra of the copolymers indicates that transesterification is slow in comparison with propagation, and the microstructure of the copolymers is governed by the relative reactivity of the comonomers. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The bowl‐shaped aluminum alkoxide complexes bearing N2O2 bis(phenolate)‐amine ligands having different side arms as pyridine ( 1 ), dimethyl amine ( 2 ), and diethyl amine ( 3 ) were shown to be highly efficient and well behaved in the homopolymerization and copolymerization of l ‐lactide (LA) and ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) at 100 °C. The rates of copolymerization are similar for Complexes 1 – 3 where nearly full conversions were achieved in 60 h for [LA]:[CL]:[Al] ratio of 50:50:1. The minor adjustment of the side arms of the Catalysts 1 – 3 gave profound differences in the LA/ε‐CL copolymer sequences where tapered, gradient, and highly random structures were obtained in one system, respectively. The chelation of LA to Al metal after ring‐opening process and suitable steric hindrance of the side arms were believed to participate and saturate the aluminum metal centers giving different copolymer structures. The random LA/ε‐CL copolymer structure was confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance and differential scanning calorimetry analysis. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A series of novel aluminum complexes containing bulky aryl‐βketiminato ligands [ArNCH C10H7C6H5O]Al(CH3)2 ( 3a , Ar = C6F5; 3b , Ar = C6H5; 3c , Ar = 2,6‐iPr2C6H3) have been synthesized in high yields. These complexes were identified by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and Xray structural analysis. All the aluminum complexes could efficiently catalyze the ROP of ɛ‐caprolactone (ɛ‐CL) and Lactide (LA) in a controlled manner. It was found that the steric effect of the ligand has less effect on the ROP of CL, while the polymerization rate of L‐LA was suppressed significantly. More interestingly, this kind of catalysts can promote the random copolymerization of ɛ‐CL and L‐LA. The transesterification side reaction and the polymer composition could be adjusted by modulating the electronic and steric effects of the ligand. In paticular, compound 3c could produce quasi‐random copolymers without transesterification side reactions, as indicated by both the values of the reactivity ratios of the two monomers (rLA = 1.31; rCL = 0.99) and the similar average lengths of the caproyl and lactidyl sequences (LCL = 2.34; LLA = 2.44). Finally, a drug‐random copolymer conjugates could be easily prepared by using 3c , indicating a potential application of 3c in pharmacutical and biomedical field. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. The random copolymers poly(LA‐ran‐CL) have improved properties of degradability, mechanical strength, elasticity, and permeability over the PLA and PCL homopolymers. However, the synthesis of such copolymers is still a great challenge in polymer chemistry. In this contribution, we develop a simple but well‐designed phenoxyimine Al complex ( 4 ) with bulky Ph2CH groups, which achieves controlled random copolymerization of rac‐LA and ɛ‐CL in a living manner (Ð = 1.06–1.09). The reactivity ratios of rac‐LA and ɛ‐CL (rLA and rCL) are 1.09 and 1.05 and the average sequence lengths of the lactidyl unit (LLA) and the caproyl unit (LCL) are in the range of 1.9–2.0 at different stages of conversion. In marked contrast, Al complexes ( 1–3 ) having less bulky substituents on the ligands only produce gradient copolymers. Furthermore, this strategy of catalyst design would be readily extended to other catalytic systems including β‐ketiminato Al complex ( 5 ). © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. The synthesis, characterization, and ring‐opening polymerization of a new cyclic carbonate monomer containing an allyl ester moiety, 5‐methyl‐5‐allyloxycarbonyl‐1,3‐dioxan‐2‐one (MAC), was performed for the first time. MAC was synthesized in five steps in good yield beginning from the starting material, 2,2‐bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid. Subsequent polymerization and copolymerizations of the new cyclic carbonate with rac‐lactide (rac‐LA) and ?‐caprolactone (CL) were attempted. Rac‐LA copolymerized well with MAC, but CL copolymerizations produced insoluble products. Oligomeric macroinitiators of MAC and rac‐LA were synthesized from stannous ethoxide, and both macroinitiators were used for the controlled ring‐opening polymerization of rac‐LA. The polymerization kinetics were examined by monitoring the disappearance of the characteristic C? O ring stretch of the monomer at 1240 cm?1 with real‐time in situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Postpolymerization oxidation reactions were conducted to epoxidize the unsaturated bonds of the MAC‐functionalized polymers. Epoxide‐containing polymers may allow further organic transformations with various nucleophiles, such as amines, alcohols, and carboxylic acids. NMR was used for microstructure identification of the polymers, and size exclusion chromatography and differential scanning calorimetry were used to characterize the new functionalized poly(ester‐carbonates). © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Star‐shaped homo‐ and copolymers were synthesized in a controlled fashion using two different initiating systems. Homopolymers of ε‐caprolactone, L ‐lactide, and 1,5‐dioxepan‐2‐one were firstly polymerized using (I) a spirocyclic tin initiator and (II) stannous octoate (cocatalyst) together with pentaerythritol ethoxylate 15/4 EO/OH (coinitiator), to give polymers with identical core moieties. Our gained understanding of the versatile and controllable initiator systems kinetics, the transesterification reactions occurring, and the role which the reaction conditions play on the material outcome, made it possible to tailor the copolymer microstructure. Two strategies were used to successfully synthesize copolymers of different microstructures with the two initiator systems, i.e., a more multiblock‐ or a block‐structure. The correct choice of the monomer addition order enabled two distinct blocks to be created for the copolymers of poly(DXO‐co‐LLA) and poly(CL‐co‐LLA). In the case of poly(CL‐co‐DXO), multiblock copolymers were created using both systems whereas longer blocks were created with the spirocyclic tin initiator. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A pure unsaturated cyclic ester, 6,7‐dihydro‐2(3H)‐oxepinone (DHO2), was prepared by a new synthetic route. The copolymerization of DHO2 with ?‐caprolactone (?CL) was initiated by aluminum isopropoxide [Al(OiPr)3] at 0 °C as an easy way to produce unsaturated aliphatic polyesters with nonconjugated C?C double bonds in a controlled manner. The chain growth was living, as certified by the agreement between the experimental molecular weight at total monomer conversion and the value predicted from the initial monomer/initiator molar ratio. The polydispersity was reasonably low (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight ≤ 1.2). The homopolymerization of DHO2 was, however, not controlled because of fast intramolecular transesterification. Copolymers of DHO2 and ?CL were quantitatively oxidized with the formation of epoxides containing chains. The extent of the epoxidation allowed the thermal properties and thermal stability of the copolyesters to be modulated. The epoxidized copolyesters were successfully converted into thioaminated chains, which were then quaternized into polycations. No degradation occurred during the chemical modification. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 2286–2297, 2002  相似文献

Oligomer samples obtained by the anionic copolymerization of a bis(γ‐lactone), 2,8‐dioxa‐1‐methylbicyclo[3.3.0]octane‐3,7‐dione ( 1 ), and glycidyl phenyl ether with potassium tert‐butoxide have been analyzed by matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight (MALDI‐TOF) mass spectrometry. The MALDI‐TOF mass spectra of these cooligomers show well‐resolved signals that can be reliably assigned to linear, alternating cooligomers that have carboxylate chain ends or alkoxide chain ends and cyclic ones. The formation of these three series of cooligomers suggests that the polymerization process involves concomitant intermolecular transesterification and intramolecular back‐biting. The intramolecular back‐biting reaction causes the formation of cyclic cooligomers, whereas the intermolecular transesterification causes the reduction of the molecular weight and the transformation of the alkoxide active chain end into a carboxylate chain end. The MALDI‐TOF mass spectrometry study has shown that an excess of monomer 1 enhances the selectivity of propagation by increasing the probability of the attack of the alkoxide chain end to 1 . © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of di‐ and triblock copolymers [poly(L ‐lactide‐b‐ε‐caprolactone), poly(D,L ‐lactide‐b‐ε‐caprolactone), poly(ε‐caprolactone‐b‐L ‐lactide), and poly(ε‐caprolactone‐b‐L ‐lactide‐b‐ε‐caprolactone)] have been synthesized successfully by sequential ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) and lactide (LA) either by initiating PCL block growth with living PLA chain end or vice versa using titanium complexes supported by aminodiol ligands as initiators. Poly(trimethylene carbonate‐b‐ε‐caprolactone) was also prepared. A series of random copolymers with different comonomer composition were also synthesized in solution and bulk of ε‐CL and D,L ‐lactide. The chemical composition and microstructure of the copolymers suggest a random distribution with short average sequence length of both the LA and ε‐CL. Transesterification reactions played a key role in the redistribution of monomer sequence and the chain microstructures. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis of the copolymer also evidenced the random structure of the copolymer with a unique Tg. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Divalent samarocene complex [(C5H9C5H4)2Sm(tetrahydrofuran)2] was prepared and characterized and used to catalyze the ring‐opening polymerization of L ‐lactide (L‐LA) and copolymerization of L‐LA with caprolactone (CL). Several factors affecting monomer conversion and molecular weight of polymer, such as polymerization time, temperature, monomer/catalyst ratio, and solvent, were examined. The results indicated that polymerization was rapid, with monomer conversions reaching 100% within 1 h, and the conformation of L‐LA was retained. The structure of the block copolymer of CL/L‐LA was characterized by NMR and differential scanning calorimetry. The morphological changes during crystallization of poly(caprolactone) (PCL)‐b‐P(L‐LA) copolymer were monitored with real‐time hot‐stage atomic force microscopy (AFM). The effect of temperature on the morphological change and crystallization behavior of PCL‐b‐P(L‐LA) copolymer was demonstrated through AFM observation. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The ionic [Ti33‐OPri)2(µ‐OPri)3(OPri)6][FeCl4] halo‐alkoxide ( A ) was investigated for its activity towards the bulk polymerization of rac‐lactide (rac‐LA) and ?‐caprolactone (?‐CL) in various temperatures, monomer/ A molar proportions, and reaction times. The reactivity of A in the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of both monomers is mainly due to the cationic [Ti3(OPri)11]+ unity and proceeds through the coordination–insertion mechanism. Molecular weights ranging from 6,379 to 13,950 g mol?1 and PDI values varying from 1.22 to 1.52 were obtained. Results of ROP kinetic studies for both ?‐CL and rac‐LA confirm that the reaction rates are first‐order with respect to monomers. The production of poly(?‐caprolactone) shows a higher sensitivity of the reaction rate to temperature, while the polymerization of rac‐LA is slower and more dependent on the thermal stability of the active species during the propagation step. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We investigated the mechanism of the ring‐opening copolymerization of ?‐caprolactam (?‐CL) with glycidyl phenyl ether (GPE) to afford poly(?‐CL‐co‐GPE) as a model reaction of the thermal curing of certain epoxy resins with ?‐CL. The reaction of ?‐CL and GPE proceeded efficiently in the presence of 1,8‐diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec‐7‐ene (DBU) at 170°C for 2 h. The monomer reactivities r1 of ?‐CL and r2 of GPE calculated according to the Fineman‐Ross method and the Kelen‐Tüdös method were 0.58 and 5.52, respectively. These values indicate that poly(?‐CL‐co‐GPE) has a pseudo‐block gradient copolymer. Based on these results, we examined the thermal curing reactions of certain epoxy resins with ?‐CL. The corresponding novel cured products were obtained quantitatively, and each of them showed a high glass transition temperature and high thermal stability, presumably due at least in part to a pseudo‐block gradient primary structure resembling that of poly(?‐CL‐co‐GPE). © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, the synthesis of isotactic polypropylenes (i‐PP) modified with ? OH groups in sides (iPP‐OH), by combination of polyinsertion ansa‐metallocene catalysis and ring opening of propene oxide (PO), is described. i‐PP sequences interrupted by isolated ethylene/p‐methylstyrene units forms the backbone. This enchainment is obtained by controlled copolymerization of propene with ethylene and p‐methylstyrene comonomers in the presence of rac‐ethylenebis(1‐indenyl)zirconiumdichloride/methylalumoxane system. The metallation reaction of the p‐methyl group with sec‐BuLi generates an anionic center that can be reacted with PO. The iPP‐OH is the result of the monoaddition reaction of PO followed by hydrolysis with acidified methanol. By changing experimental conditions in the backbone synthesis, a tuned number of the functionalizable sites as well as polypropylene sequence lengths can be obtained. As a consequence, iPP samples with a different number of ? OH groups for the backbone can be synthesized after the PO monoaddition reaction. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copolymers of 2‐methylene‐1,3‐dioxepane (MDO) and methyl acrylate (MA) containing ester units both in the backbone and as pendant groups were synthesized by free‐radical copolymerization. The influence of reaction conditions such as the polymerization time, temperature, initiator concentration, and comonomer feed ratio on the yield, molecular weight, and copolymer composition was investigated. The structure of the copolymers was confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and IR spectroscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry indicated that the copolymers had a random structure. An NMR study showed that hydrogen transfer occurred during the copolymerization. The reactivity ratios of the comonomers were rMDO = 0.0235 and rMA = 26.535. The enzymatic degradation of the copolymers obtained was carried out in the presence of proteinase K or a crude enzyme extracted from earthworms. The experimental results showed that the higher ester molar percentage in the backbone caused a faster degradation rate. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper aims at reporting on the synthesis of a heterograft copolymer by combining the “grafting onto” process based on atom transfer radical addition (ATRA) and the “grafting from” process by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The statistical copolymerization of ε‐caprolactone (εCL) and α‐chloro‐ε‐caprolactone (αClεCL) was initiated by 2,2‐dibutyl‐2‐stanna‐1,3‐dioxepane (DSDOP), followed by ATRA of parts of the chlorinated units of poly(αClεCL‐co‐εCL) on the terminal double bond of α‐MeO,ω‐CH2?CH? CH2? CO2‐poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO). The amphiphilic poly(εCL‐g‐EO) graft copolymer collected at this stage forms micelles as supported by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The unreacted pendant chloro groups of poly(εCL‐g‐EO) were used to initiate the ATRP of styrene with formation of copolymer with two populations of randomly distributed grafts, that is PEO and polystyrene. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
