High‐molecular‐weight poly(phthalazinone)s with very high glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) were synthesized via a novel N–C coupling reaction. New bisphthalazinone monomers ( 7a–e ) were synthesized from 2‐(4‐chlorobenzoyl) phthalic acid in two steps. Poly(phthalazinone)s, having inherent viscosities in the range of 0.34–0.91 dL/g, were prepared by the reaction of the bis(phthalazinone) monomers with an activated aryl halide in a dipolar aprotic solvent in the presence of potassium carbonate. The poly(phthalazinone)s exhibited Tg's greater than 230 °C. polymer 8b synthesized from diphenyl biphenol and bis(4‐flurophenyl) sulfone demonstrated the highest Tg of 297 °C. Thermal stabilities of the poly(phthalazinone)s were determined by thermogravimetric analysis. All the poly(phthalazinone)s showed a similar pattern of decomposition with no weight loss below 450 °C in nitrogen. The temperatures of 5% weight loss were observed to be about 500 °C. The poly(phthalazinone)s containing 4,4′‐isopropylidenediphenol and 4,4′‐(hexafluoroisopropylidene) diphenol and diphenyl ether linkage were soluble in chlorinated solvents such as chloroform. Other poly‐(phthalazinone)s were soluble in dipolar aprotic solvents such as N,N′‐dimethylacetamide. The soluble poly(phthalazinone)s can be cast as flexible films from solution. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 2481–2490, 2003  相似文献

Two series of novel amorphous poly(aryl ether phthalazine)s have been prepared via an intramolecular ring closure reaction of poly(aryl ether ketone)s (PAEKs) with hydrazine monohydrate. Fluorinated PAEKs, which display solubility in solvents incorporating a ketone functionality such as acetone or ethyl acetate, were converted to poly(aryl ether phthalazine)s to observe if these polymers would display similar solubility characteristics. The poly(aryl ether phthalazine)s have glass transition temperatures in the range of 278–320°C and show 5% weight loss points greater than 500°C in air and nitrogen atmospheres. The fluorinated poly(aryl ether phthalazine)s were not soluble in ketonic solvents. A series of poly(aryl ether phthalazine)s incorporating pendant 2-naphthalenyl moieties has been prepared in an attempt to produce amorphous, thermally stable polymers with high glass transition temperatures. The polymers have glass transition temperatures in the range of 287–334°C and show 5% weight loss points greater than 500°C in air and nitrogen atmospheres. Poly(aryl ether phthalazine)s undergo an exothermic reaction above the glass transition temperature. The major product of this reaction is a rearrangement of the phthalazine moieties to quiazoline moieties, however some crosslinking of the polymers occurs. Cured samples of the poly(aryl ether phthalazine)s show a small increase in the polymer Tg and are insoluble in all solvents tested. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Soluble brominated poly(arylene ether)s containing mono‐ or dibromotetraphenylphenylene ether and octafluorobiphenylene units were synthesized. The polymers were high molecular weight (weight‐average molecular weight = 115,100–191,300; number‐average molecular weight = 32,300–34,000) and had high glass‐transition temperatures (>279 °C) and decomposition temperatures (>472 °C). The brominated polymers were phosphonated with diethylphosphite by a palladium‐catalyzed reaction. Quantitative phosphonation was possible when 50 mol % of a catalyst based on bromine was used. The diethylphosphonated polymers were dealkylated by a reaction with bromotrimethylsilane in carbon tetrachloride followed by hydrolysis with hydrochloric acid. The polymers with pendant phosphonic acid groups were soluble in polar solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide and gave flexible and tough films via casting from solution. The polymers were hygroscopic and swelled in water. They did not decompose at temperatures of up to 260 °C under a nitrogen atmosphere. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of new high molecular weight poly(arylene ether)s containing the 1,2-dihydro-4-phenyl(2H)phthalazinone moiety have been synthesized. The inherent viscosities of these polymers are in the range of 0.33–0.64 dL/g. They are amorphous and readily soluble in chloroform, DMF, and DMAc. The glass transition temperatures of the polymers range from 241 to 320°C and the 5% weight loss temperatures in nitrogen atmosphere range from 473 to 517°C. The hydroxy group in the monomer 1,2-dihydro-4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)(2H)phthalazin-1-one has been selectively transformed into the N,N′-dimethylthiocarbamate group, which was then rearranged to give the S-(N,N′-dimethylcarbamate) group via the Newman–Kwart rearrangement reaction. A series of poly(arylene thioether)s containing the 1,2-dihydro-4-phenyl(2H)phthalazinone moiety have also been synthesized via two types of reactions, a N C coupling reaction and a one-pot reaction between the S-(N,N′-dimethylcarbamate) and activated dihalo compounds, in diphenyl sulfone in the presence of a cesium carbonate and calcium carbonate mixture. These poly(arylene thioether)s also have high glass transition temperatures (ranging from 217–303°C) and high thermal stabilities. Compared with their poly(ether) analogs, the poly(arylene thioether)s have glass transition temperatures several degrees lower, which is attributed to the more flexible C S C bonds. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Novel poly(arylene ether)s with sulfonic acid containing pendent groups were successfully synthesized by the nucleophilic displacement of aromatic dihalides with bisphenols in an aprotic solvent in the presence of excess potassium carbonate followed by sulfonation with chlorosulfonic acid. The sulfonation took place only at the controlled positions on the phenyl rings due to the novel bisphenol structures designed. The sulfonic acid group containing polymers were very soluble in common organic solvents, such as dimethyl sulfoxide, N,N′‐dimethylacetamide, and dimethylformamide, but swelled only slightly in water. These sulfonic acid group containing polymers were readily cast into tough and smooth films from organic solvents. The synthesized polymers had high glass‐transition temperatures of 171.0–240.7 °C and high molecular weights of 15,600–33,000 Da. These films could potentially be used as proton‐exchange membranes for fuel cells. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 1779–1788, 2004  相似文献

Polyhydrazides and poly(amide‐hydrazide)s were prepared from two ether‐sulfone‐dicarboxylic acids, 4,4′‐[sulfonylbis(1,4‐phenylene)dioxy]dibenzoic acid and 4,4′‐[sulfonylbis(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene)dioxy]dibenzoic acid, or their diacyl chlorides with terephthalic dihydrazide, isophthalic dihydrazide, and p‐aminobenzhydrazide via a phosphorylation reaction or a low‐temperature solution polycondensation. All the hydrazide polymers were found to be amorphous according to X‐ray diffraction analysis. They were readily soluble in polar organic solvents such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone and N,N‐dimethylacetamide and could afford colorless, flexible, and tough films with good mechanical strengths via solvent casting. These hydrazide polymers exhibited glass‐transition temperatures of 149–207 °C and could be thermally cyclodehydrated into the corresponding oxadiazole polymers in the solid state at elevated temperatures. Although the oxadiazole polymers showed a significantly decreased solubility with respect to their hydrazide prepolymers, some oxadiazole polymers were still organosoluble. The thermally converted oxadiazole polymers had glass‐transition temperatures of 217–255 °C and softening temperatures of 215–268 °C and did not show significant weight loss before 400 °C in nitrogen or air. For a comparative study, related sulfonyl polymers without the ether groups were also synthesized from 4,4′‐sulfonyldibenzoic acid and the hydrazide monomers by the same synthetic routes. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of novel soluble pyridazinone‐ or pyridazine‐containing poly(arylene ether)s were prepared by a polycondensation reaction. The pyridazinone monomer, 6‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)pyridazin‐3(2H)‐one ( 1 ), was synthesized from the corresponding acetophenone and glyoxylic acid in a simple one‐pot reaction. The pyridazinone monomer was successfully copolymerized with bisphenol A (BPA) or 1,2‐dihydro‐4‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)phthalazin‐1(2H)‐one (DHPZ) and bis(4‐fluorophenyl)sulfone to form high‐molecular‐weight polymers. The copolymers had inherent viscosities of 0.5–0.9 dL/g. The glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) of the copolymers synthesized with BPA increased with increasing content of the pyridazinone monomer. The Tg's of the copolymers synthesized from DHPZ with different pyridazinone contents were similar to those of the two homopolymers. The homopolymers showed Tg's from 202 to 291 °C by differential scanning calorimetry. The 5% weight loss temperatures in nitrogen measured by thermogravimetric analysis were in the range of 411–500 °C. 4‐(6‐Chloropyridazin‐3‐yl)phenol ( 2 ) was synthesized from 1 via a simple one‐pot reaction. 2 was copolymerized with 4,4′‐isopropylidenediphenol and bis(4‐fluorophenyl)sulfone to form high‐Tg polymers. The copolymers with less than 80 mol % pyridazinone or chloropyridazine monomers were soluble in chlorinated solvents such as chloroform. The copolymers with higher pyridazinone contents and homopolymers were not soluble in chlorinated solvents but were still soluble in dipolar aprotic solvents such as N‐methylpyrrolidinone. The soluble polymers could be cast into flexible films from solution. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 44: 3328–3335, 2006  相似文献

The bisphenol 4,4″‐dihydroxy‐5′‐phenyl‐m‐terphenyl ( 4 ), containing a 1,3,5‐triphenylbenzene moiety, was synthesized from a pyrylium salt obtained by the reaction of benzaldehyde with p‐methoxyacetophenone with boron trifluoride etherate as a condensing agent. Polymers were obtained from 4 by a nucleophilic displacement reaction with various activated difluoro monomers and with K2CO3 as a base. A series of new poly(arylene ether)s ( 8a – 8f ) were obtained that contained phenyl‐substituted m‐terphenyl segments in the polymer chain. Polymers with inherent viscosities of 0.41–0.99 dL/g were obtained in yields greater than 96%. The polymers were soluble in a variety of organic solvents, including nonpolar solvents such as toluene. Clear, transparent, and flexible films cast from CHCl3 showed high glass‐transition temperatures (Tg = 198–270 °C) and had excellent thermal stability, as shown by temperatures of 5% weight loss greater than 500 °C. 4 was converted via N,N‐dimethyl‐O‐thiocarbamate into the masked dithiol 4,4″‐bis(N,N′‐dimethyl‐S‐thiocarbamate)‐5′‐phenyl‐m‐terphenyl and was polymerized with activated difluoro compounds in the presence of a mixture of Cs2CO3 and CaCO3 as a base in diphenyl sulfone as a solvent. A series of new poly(arylene thioether)s ( 9a – 9e ) were obtained with Tg values similar to those of 8a – 8e . 9a – 9e were further oxidized into poly(arylene sulfone)s with Tg values 40–80 °C higher than those for 8a – 8e and 9a – 9e . These polymers also had good solubility in organic solvents. A sulfonic acid group was selectively introduced onto the pendent phenyl group of polymers 8a and 8f by reaction with chlorosulfonic acid. The polymers were soluble in dipolar aprotic solvents and formed films via casting from dimethylformamide. Polymers 8a – 8f , 11a , and 11f showed blue and red fluorescence under ultraviolet–visible light with emission maxima at 380–440 nm. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Self-crosslinkable poly(arylene ether)s 6 , and 8 , containing pendent triazene groups were prepared by nucleophilic substitution reaction of poly(arylene ether)s 5 , and 7 , respectively, with 1-[4-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)phenylene]triazenes, 4 , in the presence of potassium carbonate in N,N-dimethylacetamide. A series of triazenes 4 containing various substituents have been synthesized. Self-crosslinkable polymer 6e containing phenyl-substituted triazene pendants can be crosslinked at 215°C, which is about 40°C lower than the glass transition temperature of the virgin base polymer 5 . The degree of crosslinking can be tailored by varying the concentration of the pendent phenylenetriazene groups in the polymer. After curing, the flexible polymer films (ca. 10 μm thick) exhibit high gel contents, increased glass transition temperatures, improved resistance to organic solvents, and little change in dielectric constant and thermal stability. These self-crosslinkable poly(arylene ether)s are potential candidates for electronic applications. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Fluorinated dihydroxy phosphine oxide monomers were synthesized via chlorination, Grignard, and demethylation techniques. The prepared monomer was successfully polymerized with each of the three perfluorinated monomers (decafluorobiphenyl, decafluorobenzophenone, and pentafluorophenylsulfide) by nucleophilic aromatic substitution. The average molecular weight ranged between 7800 and 14,900 g/mol. The glass‐transition temperatures of the polymers were registered in the range of 185–235 °C, and all the polymers exhibited high thermal stability up to 326–408 °C. The results of the refractive‐index measurements indicated control of the refractive index between 1.5181 and 1.5536 and an optical loss of 0.53 dB/cm at 1550 nm. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Three new bis(ether‐acyl chloride) monomers, 1,1‐bis[4‐(4‐chloroformylphenoxy)phenyl]cyclohexane ( 1a ), 5,5‐bis[4‐(4‐chloroformylphenoxy)phenyl]‐4,7‐methanohexahydroindan ( 1b ), and 9,9‐bis[4‐(4‐chloroformylphenoxy)phenyl]fluorene ( 1c ), were synthesized from readily available compounds. Aromatic polybenzoxazoles bearing ether and cardo groups were obtained by the low‐temperature solution polycondensation of the bis(ether‐acyl chloride)s with three bis(aminophenol)s and the subsequent thermal cyclodehydration of the resultant poly(o‐hydroxy amide)s. The intermediate poly(o‐hydroxy amide)s exhibited inherent viscosities in the range of 0.35–0.71 dL/g. All of the poly(o‐hydroxy amide)s were amorphous and soluble in many organic polar solvents, and most of them could afford flexible and tough films by solvent casting. The poly(o‐hydroxy amide)s exhibited glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) in the range of 141–169 °C and could be thermally converted into the corresponding polybenzoxazoles approximately in the region of 240–350 °C, as indicated by the DSC thermograms. Flexible and tough films of polybenzoxazoles could be obtained by thermal cyclodehydration of the poly(o‐hydroxy amide) films. All the polybenzoxazoles were amorphous and showed an enhanced Tg but a dramatically decreased solubility as compared with their poly(o‐hydroxy amide) precursors. They exhibited Tg's of 215–272 °C by DSC and showed insignificant weight loss before 500 °C in nitrogen or air. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Two new extended self‐polymerizable AB monomers, N‐(4‐fluorobenzoyl)‐4‐amino‐4′‐hydroxydiphenylether and N‐(4‐fluorobenzoyl)‐4‐amino‐4′‐hydroxybiphenyl, were prepared. The monomers were homopolymerized and copolymerized to high‐molecular‐weight, linear poly(arylether amides) in N‐methylpyrrolidone (NMP)/toluene in the presence of potassium carbonate at elevated temperature. The polymers retained NMP up to 200 °C. Samples containing small amounts of the solvent (5–10 wt %) were soluble in polar aprotic solvents. However, after complete removal of the NMP, the polymers were only soluble in strong acids such as sulfuric acid and methanesulfonic acid (MSA). The polymers, which had intrinsic viscosities of 0.57–1.49 dL/g (30.1 ± 0.1 °C in MSA), were semicrystalline with melting temperatures above 400 °C. Two new self‐polymerizable AB2 amide monomers, N,N′‐bis(4‐fluorobenzoyl)‐3,4‐diamino‐4′‐hydroxydiphenylether and N,N′‐bis(4‐fluorobenzoyl)‐3,5‐diamino‐4′‐hydroxybenzophenone, were also prepared and polymerized to give a hyperbranched poly(arylether amide) and a hyperbranched poly(aryletherketone) amide. The arylfluoride‐terminated, amorphous polymers had intrinsic viscosities of 0.34 and 0.24 dL/g (30.0 ± 0.1 °C in m‐cresol), glass‐transition temperatures of 210–269 °C, and were soluble in a wide variety of organic solvents. Matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight analysis indicated that the components of the low‐molecular‐weight fractions contained cyclic structures. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐vinylene‐alt‐dibenzothiophene‐2,8‐vinylene) (PS) and poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐vinylene‐alt‐dibenzothiophene‐5,5‐dioxide‐2,8‐ vinylene) (PSO) as well as corresponding model compounds were synthesized by Heck coupling. Both the polymers and model compounds were readily soluble in common organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran, dichloromethane, chloroform, and toluene. The polymers showed a decomposition temperature at ~430 °C and a char yield of about 65% at 800 °C in N2. The glass‐transition temperatures of the polymers were almost identical (75–77 °C) and higher than those of the model compounds (26–45 °C). All samples absorbed around 390 nm, and their optical band gaps were 2.69–2.85 eV. They behaved as blue‐greenish light emitting materials in both solutions and thin films, with photoluminescence emission maxima at 450–483 nm and photoluminescence quantum yields of 0.52–0.72 in solution. Organic light‐emitting diodes with an indium tin oxide/poly(ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonic acid)/polymer/Mg:Ag/Ag configuration with polymers PS and PSO as emitting layers showed green electroluminescence with maxima at 530 and 540 nm, respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of new poly(amide–imide)s (PAIs, series III ) with good processability and characteristics was synthesized by utilizing organosoluble polyimide (PI, 6FDA–PI series) to improve poor‐solubility polyamide (PA, PTPA series), which used terephthalic acid (TPA) as a monomer. The III series PAIs were synthesized starting from the 2 : 1 molar ratio of aromatic diamines ( I ) and 6FDA to prepare imide ring‐preformed diamines ( II ) and then reacted with equimolar amount of TPA by direct polycondensation. Furthermore, by adjustment of the stoichiometry of the I , II, and TPA monomers, PAIs IV having various components were prepared. Most of the resulting PAIs having inherent viscosities between 0.70 and 1.74 dL/g were obtained in quantitative yields, and they were readily soluble in polar solvents such as N,N‐dimethylacetamide, N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone, dimethylformamide, and dimethyl sulfoxide. All of the soluble PAIs afforded transparent, flexible, and tough films. The glass‐transition temperatures of PAIs III were in the range of 236–256 °C, and the 10% weight loss temperatures were recorded at 522–553 °C in nitrogen. The char yields of the III series polymers in nitrogen atmosphere were all higher than 56% even at 800 °C. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 39: 93–104, 2001  相似文献

A series of new poly(aryl ether)s containing the pyrimidine moiety were prepared by a nucleophilic aromatic substitution polymerization reaction in an aprotic solvent (DMAc) in the presence of excess potassium carbonate. These polymers are high molecular weight, amorphous, and soluble in common solvents at room temperature. The polymers are easily cast from solution into flexible, colorless, and transparent films. A novel phosphonic acid containing bisphenol was successfully synthesized from phenolphthalein and m‐aminophenylphosphonic acid. A series of homo‐ and copoly‐(arylene ether)s containing phosphonic acid groups were prepared by solution nucleophilic polycondensation. These phosphonic acid containing polymers can readily be dissolved in common organic solvents, such as dimethyl sulfoxide, N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone, and N‐cyclohexylpyrrolidinone, and can be cast into tough and smooth films. The presence of phosphonic acid pendants in the poly‐(arylene ether)s was confirmed by NMR, matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry, and conductivity measurements. This is the first report on the attachment of phenylphosphonic acid groups as side chains to aromatic polyethers. These poly‐(arylene ether)s had very high glass‐transition temperatures ranging from 254 to >315 °C and high molecular weights. The conductivities of the synthesized polymers were analyzed by the Cole–Cole method, and they ranged from 10?5 to 10?6 Scm?1. A novel series of colorless and highly organosoluble poly(ether imide)s were prepared from 3,3‐bis[4‐(3,4‐dicarboxyphenoxy)phenyl]phthalide dianhydride with various fluorinated aromatic bis(ether amine)s via a conventional two‐stage process that included ring‐opening polyaddition to form the poly(amic acid)s followed by cyclodehydration to produce the polymer films. The poly(ether imide)s showed excellent solubility, with most of them dissoluble at a concentration of 10 wt % in amide polar solvents, in ether‐type solvents, and even in chlorinated solvents. Their films had a cutoff wavelength between 358 and 373 nm, and the yellowness index ranged from 3.1 to 9.5. The glass‐transition temperatures of the poly(ether imide) series were recorded between 237 and 297 °C, the decomposition temperatures at 10% weight loss were all above 494 °C, and the residue was more than 54% at 800 °C in nitrogen. These films showed high tensile strength and also were characterized by higher solubility, lighter color, and lower dielectric constants and moisture absorption than an analogous nonfluorinated polyimide series. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new one‐pot procedure for imide–acid monomer synthesis and polymerization is reported for four new poly(amide–imide)s. Bisphenol A dianhydride (BPADA) was reacted with twice the molar amount of 3‐aminobenzoic acid (3ABA) or 3‐amino‐4‐methylbenzoic acid (3A4MBA) in 1‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone (NMP) and toluene mixture, and the amic acid intermediates cyclized in solution to give two diimide‐containing dicarboxylic acid monomers. Without isolation, the diacid monomers were then polymerized with either 1,3‐diaminomesitylene (DAM) or 1,5‐diaminonaphthalene (1,5NAPda) using triphenyl phosphite‐activation to give a series of four soluble poly(amide–imide)s, PAI. Isolation and purification of the dicarboxylic acid monomers was not necessary for formation of high molecular weight polymers as indicated by intrinsic viscosities of 0.64–1.04 dL/g determined in N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc). All of the PAI were soluble in polar aprotic solvents such as NMP, DMAc, and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Glass transition temperatures ranged from 243 to 279°C by DSC, and 5% weight loss temperatures were above 400°C in both air and nitrogen. Flexible films cast from DMAc were light yellow, transparent, and tough. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 37: 1183–1188, 1999  相似文献
