Poly(benzyl‐L ‐glutamate) (PBLG) macromonomers were synthesized by N‐carboxyanhydride (NCA) polymerization initiated with 4‐vinyl benzylamine. MALDI‐ToF analysis confirmed the presence of styrenic end‐groups in the PBLG. Free‐radical and RAFT polymerization of the macromonomer in the presence of divinyl benzene produced star polymers of various molecular weights, polydispersity, and yield depending on the reaction conditions applied. The highest molecular weight (Mw) of 10,170,000 g/mol was obtained in a free‐radical multibatch approach. It was shown that the PBLG star polymers can be deprotected to obtain poly(glutamic acid) star polymers, which form water soluble pH responsive nanoparticles. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyisobutylene‐based UV cured networks potentially useful as sealants were synthesized by photopolymerization of well‐defined polyisobutylene methacrylate (PIB‐MA), acrylate (PIB‐A) and vinyl ether (PIB‐VE) di‐ and trifunctional macromonomers. The kinetics of photocrosslinking were measured using an optical pyrometer apparatus and optimized with respect to different experimental parameters. PIB‐MA/A macromonomers displayed enhanced reactivity in radical photopolymerization in the presence of a bis(acylphosphine) oxide photoinitator. PIB‐VE macromonomers exhibited a high rates of photopolymerization with (4‐n‐octyloxyphenyl)phenyliodonium hexafluroantimonate as the photoinitiator. The rates as well as the ultimate monomer conversions were increased by increasing the irradiation light intensity. The inherent induction period associated with oxygen inhibition in the photopolymerization of PIB‐MA was significantly reduced by optimizing the choice of photoinitiator. A detailed investigation of the concentration of MA/A/VE end groups revealed the presence of a prominent saturation effect in the photopolymerization of PIB‐A, which was absent with PIB‐MA and PIB‐VE. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of dendritic building blocks (dendrons) of the first generation (G1) and the second generation, which carry differently protected amine groups in the periphery, is reported. The dendrons are used for the synthesis of the corresponding acrylic and methacrylic macromonomers. Their polymerization behavior under radical conditions is investigated. The G1 dendronized polymers are decorated at their peripheral amino groups, that is, with the chiral amino acid L -phenylalanine by the attach-to approach. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Highly efficient syntheses of poly(alkyl methacrylate)-based brush polymers were accomplished via a facile group transfer polymerization (GTP) and a consecutive grafting-through ring-opening metathesis polymerization. The GTP system, composed of the norbornenyl-methyl trimethylsilyl ketene acetal initiator and the N-(trimethylsilyl) bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide catalyst, rapidly and quantitatively generates norbornenyl-terminated poly(alkyl methacrylate) macromonomers with very narrow polydispersities (Mw/Mn < 1.10). The ring-opening metathesis polymerization of methacrylate macromonomers using Grubbs third generation catalyst successfully generated a group of methacrylate-based brush polymers, which assured the high quality of the macromonomers obtained from GTP.  相似文献

A trifunctional initiator, 2‐phenyl‐2‐[(2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl)‐1‐piperidinyloxy] ethyl 2,2‐bis[methyl(2‐bromopropionato)] propionate, was synthesized and used for the synthesis of miktoarm star AB2 and miktoarm star block AB2C2 copolymers via a combination of stable free‐radical polymerization (SFRP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) in a two‐step or three‐step reaction sequence, respectively. In the first step, a polystyrene (PSt) macroinitiator with dual ω‐bromo functionality was obtained by SFRP of styrene (St) in bulk at 125 °C. Next, this PSt precursor was used as a macroinitiator for ATRP of tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA) in the presence of Cu(I)Br and pentamethyldiethylenetriamine at 80 °C, affording miktoarm star (PSt)(PtBA)2 [where PtBA is poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)]. In the third step, the obtained St(tBA)2 macroinitiator with two terminal bromine groups was further polymerized with methyl methacrylate by ATRP, and this resulted in (PSt)(PtBA)2(PMMA)2‐type miktoarm star block copolymer [where PMMA is poly(methyl methacrylate)] with a controlled molecular weight and a moderate polydispersity (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight < 1.38). All polymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography and 1H NMR. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 2542–2548, 2003  相似文献

Poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) macromonomers capped by a polymerizable norbornene end-group have been synthesized and (co)polymerized by ring-opening metathesis with formation of graft copolymers and polymacromonomers. α-Norbornenyl PCL macromonomers have been synthesized by ring opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone (εCL) initiated by 2-diethylaluminoxymethyl-5-norbornene. Copolymerization of these PCL macromonomers with norbornene and polymerizable derivatives has been catalyzed by the [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 PCy3/(trimethylsilyl)diazomethane complex yielding a series of poly(norbornene)-graft-poly(ε-caprolactone) copolymers. These new graft copolymers have been characterized by a set of analytical methods, i.e., SEC, 1H-NMR, FTIR, DSC, and TGA. Furthermore, PCL macromonomers have been polymerized into high molecular weight comb chains of narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn = 1.10) within high yields (90%). © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The synthesis of 4-arm methyl methacrylate star polymer had been achieved successfully by atom transfer radical polymerization using CuCl as catalyst, 2, 2′-bipyridyl as ligand and pentaerythritol tetrakis (2-bromoisobutyrate) as the initiator. The star polymer was characterized by 1H-NMR and GPC, by which the precise 4-arm structure of the PMMA was confirmed. __________ Translated from Journal of Shaanxi Normal University (Natural Science Edition), 2008, 36(2) (in Chinese)  相似文献

An asymmetric difunctional initiator 2‐phenyl‐2‐[(2,2,6,6 tetramethylpiperidino)oxy] ethyl 2‐bromo propanoate ( 1 ) was used for the synthesis of ABC‐type methyl methacrylate (MMA)‐tert‐butylacrylate (tBA)‐styrene (St) triblock copolymers via a combination of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and stable free‐radical polymerization (SFRP). The ATRP‐ATRP‐SFRP or SFRP‐ATRP‐ATRP route led to ABC‐type triblock copolymers with controlled molecular weight and moderate polydispersity (Mw/Mn < 1.35). The block copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography and 1H NMR. The retaining chain‐end functionality and the applying halide exchange afforded high blocking efficiency as well as maintained control over entire routes. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Radical copolymerizations of 2‐isothiocyanatoethyl methacrylate (ITEMA) and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) or methacrylic acid (MAA) were examined, and fundamental properties of the obtained copolymers were investigated. The copolymerizations of various ITEMA/HEMA or ITEMA/MAA compositions proceeded effectively in THF or DMF by using 2,2′‐azobisbutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator, keeping the isothiocyanato groups and hydroxyl or carboxyl groups unchanged. Glass transition temperatures (Tg)s of poly(ITEMA‐co‐HEMA)s ranged from 68 to 100 °C, and they were thermally stable up to 200 °C. Meanwhile, Tgs of poly(ITEMA‐co‐MAA)s (ITEMA/MAA = 91/9, 76/24) were determined to be 91 and 109 °C, respectively. However, poly(ITEMA‐co‐MAA)s were thermally unstable, and significant weight loss was observed around 180 °C, which may be due to an addition of carboxyl groups to isothiocyanato groups followed by an elimination of COS to form amide structure in the copolymers. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(methyl methacrylate)‐b‐polystyrene (PMMA‐b‐PS) containing a benzo‐15‐crown‐5 unit at the junction point was prepared by combining atom transfer radical polymerization and nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization. For this purpose, 6,7,9,10,12,13,15,16‐octahydro‐5,8,11,14,17‐pentaoxa‐benzocyclopentadecene‐2‐carboxylic acid 3‐(2‐bromo‐2‐methyl‐propionyloxy)‐2‐methyl‐2‐[2‐phenyl‐2‐(2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl‐piperidin‐1‐yloxy)‐ethoxycarbonyl]‐propyl ester ( 3 ) was synthesized and used as an initiator in atom transfer radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate in the presence of CuCl and pentamethyldiethylenetriamine at 60°C. A linear behavior was observed in both plots of ln([M]0/[M]) versus time and Mn,GPC versus conversion indicating that the polymerization proceeded in a controlled/living manner. Thus obtained PMMA precursor was used as a macroinitiator in nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization of styrene (St) at 125°C to give well‐defined PMMA‐b‐PS with crown ether per chain. Kinetic data were also obtained for copolymerization. Moreover, potassium picrate (K+ picrate) complexation of 3 and PMMA‐b‐PS copolymer was studied. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Comb‐branched polyelectrolytes with polyacrylamide backbones and poly[(2‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate methylsulfate] (polyDMAEMA‐DMS) side chains were prepared by free‐radical macromonomer polymerization. PolyDMAEMA‐DMS macromonomers bearing terminal styrenic moieties were synthesized by living anionic polymerization with lithium 4‐vinylbenzylamide (LiVBA) and lithium N‐isopropyl‐4‐vinylbenzylamide (LiPVBA) as initiators. In the presence of LiCl, LiPVBA initiated a living polymerization of 2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) and produced polymers with well‐controlled molecular weights and low polydispersities. LiVBA could not directly initiate DMAEMA polymerization. After being capped with two units of dimethylacrylamide, DMAEMA polymerized with an initiator efficiency of 63%. The quaternization of the poly[(2‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] macromonomer with dimethyl sulfate yielded the cationic polyDMAEMA‐DMS macromonomer. The polyDMAEMA‐DMS macromonomer had a much higher reactivity than acrylamide in free‐radical polymerization. This might have been due to the formation of polyDMAEMA‐DMS micelles in the polymerization system. The high macromonomer reactivity caused composition drift in a batch process. A semibatch method with a constant polyDMAEMA‐DMS feed rate was used to control the copolymer composition. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 2394–2405, 2002  相似文献

Novel macromonomers of polystyrene and poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) containing a methacryloyl group as a polymerizable unit and two chains of the same length were prepared in two steps: the synthesis of the precursors through the atom transfer radical polymerization of styrene and tert‐butyl acrylate initiated by 1‐hydroxymethyl‐1,1‐di[(2‐bromoisobutyryloxy)methyl] ethane and the esterification of the hydroxyl group in the precursors with methacryloyl chloride. The molecular weight and polydispersity of the macromonomers were controllable because of the living nature of the atom transfer radical polymerization. Gel permeation chromatography, matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry, and hydrolysis confirmed the structure of the novel macromonomers. The homopolymerization and copolymerization of the macromonomers were investigated to prepare branched copolymers in which two chains were grafted from every repeating unit. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymeric forms of ionic liquids may have many potential applications because of their high thermal stability and ionic nature. They are generally synthesized by conventional free‐radical polymerization. Here we report a living/controlled free‐radical polymerization of an ionic liquid monomer, 2‐(1‐butylimidazolium‐3‐yl)ethyl methacrylate tetrafluoroborate (BIMT), via atom transfer radical polymerization. Copper bromide/bromide based initiator systems polymerized BIMT very quickly with little control because of fast activation but slow deactivation. With copper chloride as the catalyst and trichloroacetate, CCl4, or ethyl α‐chlorophenylacetate as the initiator, BIMT was polymerized at 60 °C in acetonitrile with first‐order kinetics with respect to the monomer concentration. The molecular weight was linearly dependent on the conversion. The monomer concentration strongly affected the polymerization: a low monomer concentration caused the polymerization to be incomplete, probably because of catalyst disproportionation in polar solvents. The addition of a small amount of pyridine suppressed such disproportionation, but a further increase in the amount of pyridine greatly slowed the polymerization. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An easy and novel approach to the synthesis of functionalized nanostructured polymeric particles is reported. The surfactant‐free emulsion polymerization of methyl methacrylate in the presence of the crosslinking reagent 2‐ethyl‐2‐(hydroxy methyl)‐1,3‐propanediol trimethacrylate was used to in situ crosslink colloid micelles to produce stable, crosslinked polymeric particles (diameter size ~ 100–300 nm). A functionalized methacrylate monomer, 2‐methacryloxyethyl‐2′‐bromoisobutyrate, containing a dormant atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) living free‐radical initiator, which is termed an inimer (initiator/monomer), was added to the solution during the polymerization to functionalize the surface of the particles with ATRP initiator groups. The surface‐initiated ATRP of different monomers was then carried out to produce core–shell‐type polymeric nanostructures. This versatile technique can be easily employed for the design of a wide variety of polymeric shells surrounding a crosslinked core while keeping good control over the sizes of the nanostructures. The particles were characterized with scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, optical microscopy, dynamic light scattering, and Raman spectroscopy. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The macroinitiator of a copolymer (PMDBTM) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and 2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DAMA) with 4‐benzyloxy‐2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl‐1‐piperidinyloxy (BTEMPO) pendant groups was prepared by the photochemical reaction of tertiary amine groups of the copolymer with benzophenone in the presence of BTEMPO. The radical copolymerization of MMA and DAMA was carried out first with azo‐bis‐isobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator; then, the dimethylamine groups of the copolymer constituted a charge‐transfer complex with benzophenone under UV irradiation, and the methylene of ternary amine and diphenyl methanol radicals were produced. The former was capped by BTEMPO, and the nitroxide (BTEMPO) was attached to the polymeric backbone. The amount of pendant BTEMPO on PMDBTM was measured by 1H NMR. PMDBTM initiated the graft polymerization of styrene via a controlled radical mechanism, and the molecular weight of the PMD‐g‐polystyrene increased with the polymerization time. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Dendritic multifunctional macroinitiators having six and 12 TIPNO‐based alkoxyamines, TIPNO‐6 and TIPNO‐12 , were synthesized and used in the living radical polymerization of styrene (St), methyl acrylate (MA), N,N‐dimethylacrylamide (DMAAm), and isoprene (IP). The polymerizations of St initiated with TIPNO‐6 gave 6‐arm star polymers with narrow polydispersities of 1.14–1.18. In the polymerizations of MA initiated with TIPNO‐6 and TIPNO‐12 , the influences of added TIPNO on the polydispersity indexes (PDIs) of the resulting star polymers were first investigated, and this led to the successful formation of poly(MA) star polymers with narrow polydispersities (1.10–1.18). Moreover, the polymerizations of DMAAm and IP from TIPNO‐6 in the presence or absence of TIPNO were briefly investigated. The benzyl ether bonds of the poly(St) and poly(MA) star polymers were cleaved by treating with Me3SiI or Pd/C, and the resulting arm's parts were analyzed with SEC. The PDIs of the resulting arm parts were low (1.19–1.23), and the Mns agreed with the Mn,theor, indicating that the poly(St) and poly(MA) star polymers had well‐controlled arms. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A class of [5,5′]‐diphenyl‐[5,5′]‐dithiophene (PTTP)‐modified methacrylates has been synthesized and free radically polymerized to form graft polymethacrylates with the conducting PTTP segments as pendant side chains. Both the terminal alkyl side chain and spacer between the PTTP segments and polymer backbone could be varied to study fundamental structure–property relationships for this class of materials. Specifically, a group of three different PTTP graft polymethacrylates has been successfully synthesized with the alkyl side chain varying from hexyl to dodecyl. For the dodecyl‐terminated poly(4‐(5′‐(4‐dodecylphenyl)‐[2,2′‐bithiophen]‐5‐yl)phenethyl methacrylate), p(DPTTPEM), a counterpart, poly(4‐(5′‐(4‐dodecylphenyl)‐[2,2′‐bithiophen]‐5‐yl)phenbutyl methacrylate), p(DPTTPBM), where the ethyl spacer was replaced by a butyl group, was synthesized. The experimental results indicated that both the alkyl side chain and spacer significantly affected the reactivity of the PTTP‐modified methacrylates during free radical polymerization as well as the physical properties of the resultant graft polymers including solubility, morphology, and electrochemical and electrical properties. Typical field‐effect mobilities on the order of 10?5 cm2 V?1 s?1 were observed for all the PTTP monomers in air, which was attributed to their crystalline phase as revealed by differential scanning calorimetry and X‐ray diffraction studies. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
