The critical delays of a delay‐differential equation can be computed by solving a nonlinear two‐parameter eigenvalue problem. The solution of this two‐parameter problem can be translated to solving a quadratic eigenvalue problem of squared dimension. We present a structure preserving QR‐type method for solving such quadratic eigenvalue problem that only computes real‐valued critical delays; that is, complex critical delays, which have no physical meaning, are discarded. For large‐scale problems, we propose new correction equations for a Newton‐type or Jacobi–Davidson style method, which also forces real‐valued critical delays. We present three different equations: one real‐valued equation using a direct linear system solver, one complex valued equation using a direct linear system solver, and one Jacobi–Davidson style correction equation that is suitable for an iterative linear system solver. A combination method of the Newton iteration and two‐level finite element algorithm is applied for solving numerically the steady Navier‐Stokes equations under the strong uniqueness condition. This algorithm is motivated by applying the m Newton iterations for solving the Navier‐Stokes problem on a coarse grid and computing the Stokes problem on a fine grid. Then, the uniform stability and convergence with respect to ν of the two‐level Newton iterative solution are analyzed for the large m and small H and h << H. An n×n real matrix P is said to be a symmetric orthogonal matrix if P = P?1 = PT. An n × n real matrix Y is called a generalized centro‐symmetric with respect to P, if Y = PYP. It is obvious that every matrix is also a generalized centro‐symmetric matrix with respect to I. In this work by extending the conjugate gradient approach, two iterative methods are proposed for solving the linear matrix equation and the minimum Frobenius norm residual problem over the generalized centro‐symmetric Y, respectively. By the first (second) algorithm for any initial generalized centro‐symmetric matrix, a generalized centro‐symmetric solution (least squares generalized centro‐symmetric solution) can be obtained within a finite number of iterations in the absence of round‐off errors, and the least Frobenius norm generalized centro‐symmetric solution (the minimal Frobenius norm least squares generalized centro‐symmetric solution) can be derived by choosing a special kind of initial generalized centro‐symmetric matrices. We also obtain the optimal approximation generalized centro‐symmetric solution to a given generalized centro‐symmetric matrix Y0 in the solution set of the matrix equation (minimum Frobenius norm residual problem). In this paper, an effective numerical approach based on a new two‐dimensional hybrid of parabolic and block‐pulse functions (2D‐PBPFs) is presented for solving nonlinear partial quadratic integro‐differential equations of fractional order. Our approach is based on 2D‐PBPFs operational matrix method together with the fractional integral operator, described in the Riemann–Liouville sense. The main characteristic behind this approach is to reduce such problems to those of solving systems of algebraic equations, which greatly simplifies the problem. By using Newton's iterative method, this system is solved, and the solution of fractional nonlinear partial quadratic integro‐differential equations is achieved. Convergence analysis and an error estimate associated with the proposed method is obtained, and it is proved that the numerical convergence order of the suggested numerical method is O(h3) . The validity and applicability of the method are demonstrated by solving three numerical examples. Numerical examples are presented in the form of tables and graphs to make comparisons with the exact solutions much easier.  相似文献

The r‐Laplacian has played an important role in the development of computationally efficient models for applications, such as numerical simulation of turbulent flows. In this article, we examine two‐level finite element approximation schemes applied to the Navier‐Stokes equations with r‐Laplacian subgridscale viscosity, where r is the order of the power‐law artificial viscosity term. In the two‐level algorithm, the solution to the fully nonlinear coarse mesh problem is utilized in a single‐step linear fine mesh problem. When modeling parameters are chosen appropriately, the error in the two‐level algorithm is comparable to the error in solving the fully nonlinear problem on the fine mesh. We provide rigorous numerical analysis of the two‐level approximation scheme and derive scalings which vary based on the coefficient r, coarse mesh size H, fine mesh size h, and filter radius δ. We also investigate the two‐level algorithm in several computational settings, including the 3D numerical simulation of flow past a backward‐facing step at Reynolds number Re = 5100. In all numerical tests, the two‐level algorithm was proven to achieve the same order of accuracy as the standard one‐level algorithm, at a fraction of the computational cost. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article a numerical method for solving a two‐dimensional transport equation in the stationary case is presented. Using the techniques of the variational calculus, we find the approximate solution for a homogeneous boundary‐value problem that corresponds to a square domain D2. Then, using the method of the fictitious domain, we extend our algorithm to a boundary value problem for a set D that has an arbitrary shape. In this approach, the initial computation domain D (called physical domain) is immersed in a square domain D2. We prove that the solution obtained by this method is a good approximation of the exact solution. A Legendre pseudospectral method is proposed for solving approximately an inverse problem of determining an unknown control parameter p(t) which is the coefficient of the solution u(x, y, z, t) in a diffusion equation in a three‐dimensional region. The diffusion equation is to be solved subject to suitably prescribed initial‐boundary conditions. The presence of the unknown coefficient p(t) requires an extra condition. This extra condition considered as the integral overspecification over the spacial domain. For discretizing the problem, after homogenization of the boundary conditions, we apply the Legendre pseudospectral method in a matrix based manner. As a results a system of nonlinear differential algebraic equations is generated. Then by using suitable transformation, the problem will be converted to a homogeneous time varying system of linear ordinary differential equations. Also a pseudospectral method for efficient solving of the resulted system of ordinary differential equations is proposed. The solution of this system gives the approximation to values of u and p. The matrix based structure of the present method makes it easy to implement. In this paper, an iterative algorithm is constructed for solving linear matrix equation AXB = C over generalized centro-symmetric matrix X. We show that, by this algorithm, a solution or the least-norm solution of the matrix equation AXB = C can be obtained within finite iteration steps in the absence of roundoff errors; we also obtain the optimal approximation solution to a given matrix X 0 in the solution set of which. In addition, given numerical examples show that the iterative method is efficient.  相似文献

Summary A method to generate an accurate approximation to a singular solution of a system of complex analytic equations is presented. Since manyreal systems extend naturally tocomplex analytic systems, this porvides a method for generating approximations to singular solutions to real systems. Examples include systems of polynomials and systems made up of trigonometric, exponential, and polynomial terms. The theorem on which the method is based is proven using results from several complex variables. No special conditions on the derivatives of the system, such as restrictions on the rank of the Jacobian matrix at the solution, are required. The numerical method itself is developed from techniques of homotopy continuation and 1-dimensional quadrature. A specific implementation is given, and the results of numerical experiments in solving five test problems are presented.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we propose new subgradient extragradient methods for finding a solution of a strongly monotone equilibrium problem over the solution set of another monotone equilibrium problem which usually is called monotone bilevel equilibrium problem in Hilbert spaces. The first proposed algorithm is based on the subgradient extragradient method presented by Censor et al. [Censor Y, Gibali A, Reich S. The subgradient extragradient method for solving variational inequalities in Hilbert space. J Optim Theory Appl. 2011;148:318–335]. The strong convergence of the algorithm is established under monotone assumptions of the cost bifunctions with Lipschitz-type continuous conditions recently presented by Mastroeni in the auxiliary problem principle. We also present a modification of the algorithm for solving an equilibrium problem, where the constraint domain is the common solution set of another equilibrium problem and a fixed point problem. Several fundamental experiments are provided to illustrate the numerical behaviour of the algorithms and to compare with others.  相似文献

In this paper, an inverse complementarity power iteration method (ICPIM) for solving eigenvalue complementarity problems (EiCPs) is proposed. Previously, the complementarity power iteration method (CPIM) for solving EiCPs was designed based on the projection onto the convex cone K. In the new algorithm, a strongly monotone linear complementarity problem over the convex cone K is needed to be solved at each iteration. It is shown that, for the symmetric EiCPs, the CPIM can be interpreted as the well‐known conditional gradient method, which requires only linear optimization steps over a well‐suited domain. Moreover, the ICPIM is closely related to the successive quadratic programming (SQP) via renormalization of iterates. The global convergence of these two algorithms is established by defining two nonnegative merit functions with zero global minimum on the solution set of the symmetric EiCP. Finally, some numerical simulations are included to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed algorithms.  相似文献

In computer graphics, in the radiosity context, a linear system Φx=b must be solved and there exists a diagonal positive matrix H such that H Φ is symmetric. In this article, we extend this property to complex matrices: we are interested in matrices which lead to Hermitian matrices under premultiplication by a Hermitian positive‐definite matrix H. We shall prove that these matrices are self‐adjoint with respect to a particular innerproduct defined on ?n. As a result, like Hermitian matrices, they have real eigenvalues and they are diagonalizable. We shall also show how to extend the Courant–Fisher theorem to this class of matrices. Finally, we shall give a new preconditioning matrix which really improves the convergence speed of the conjugate gradient method used for solving the radiosity problem. This paper presents an iterative method for solving the matrix equation AXB + CYD = E with real matrices X and Y. By this iterative method, the solvability of the matrix equation can be determined automatically. And when the matrix equation is consistent, then, for any initial matrix pair [X0, Y0], a solution pair can be obtained within finite iteration steps in the absence of round‐off errors, and the least norm solution pair can be obtained by choosing a special kind of initial matrix pair. Furthermore, the optimal approximation solution pair to a given matrix pair [X?, ?] in a Frobenius norm can be obtained by finding the least norm solution pair of a new matrix equation AX?B + C?D = ?, where ? = E ? The aim of this paper is to propose mixed two‐grid finite difference methods to obtain the numerical solution of the one‐dimensional and two‐dimensional Fitzhugh–Nagumo equations. The finite difference equations at all interior grid points form a large‐sparse linear system, which needs to be solved efficiently. The solution cost of this sparse linear system usually dominates the total cost of solving the discretized partial differential equation. The proposed method is based on applying a family of finite difference methods for discretizing the spatial and time derivatives. The obtained system has been solved by two‐grid method, where the two‐grid method is used for solving the large‐sparse linear systems. Also, in the proposed method, the spectral radius with local Fourier analysis is calculated for different values of h and Δt. The numerical examples show the efficiency of this algorithm for solving the one‐dimensional and two‐dimensional Fitzhugh–Nagumo equations. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A sub‐Stiefel matrix is a matrix that results from deleting simultaneously the last row and the last column of an orthogonal matrix. In this paper, we consider a Procrustes problem on the set of sub‐Stiefel matrices of order n. For n = 2, this problem has arisen in computer vision to solve the surface unfolding problem considered by R. Fereirra, J. Xavier and J. Costeira. An iterative algorithm for computing the solution of the sub‐Stiefel Procrustes problem for an arbitrary n is proposed, and some numerical experiments are carried out to illustrate its performance. For these purposes, we investigate the properties of sub‐Stiefel matrices. In particular, we derive two necessary and sufficient conditions for a matrix to be sub‐Stiefel. We also relate the sub‐Stiefel Procrustes problem with the Stiefel Procrustes problem and compare it with the orthogonal Procrustes problem. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

本文提出了对粘性阻尼线性振动系统的复模态二次广义特征值问题进行高效近似求解的一种新的矩阵摄动分析方法,即先将阻尼矩阵分解为比例阻尼部分和非比例阻尼部分之和,并求得系统的比例阻尼实模态特征解;然后以此为初始值,将阻尼矩阵的非比例部分作为对其比例部分的小量修改,利用摄动分析方法简捷地得到系统的复模态特征值问题的近似解.这一新方法适用于振系阻尼分布不十分偏离比例阻尼情况的问题,因此对大阻尼(非过阻尼)振动系统也有效.这是它优于以前提出的基于无阻尼实模态特征解的类似摄动分析方法的重要特点.文中建立了复模态特征值和特征向量的二阶摄动解式,并通过算例证实了其有效性.此外还讨论了利用比例阻尼假定估计阻尼系统固有振动的复特征值的可行性.  相似文献

Efficient and accurate structure exploiting numerical methods for solving the periodic Riccati differential equation (PRDE) are addressed. Such methods are essential, for example, to design periodic feedback controllers for periodic control systems. Three recently proposed methods for solving the PRDE are presented and evaluated on challenging periodic linear artificial systems with known solutions and applied to the stabilization of periodic motions of mechanical systems. The first two methods are of the type multiple shooting and rely on computing the stable invariant subspace of an associated Hamiltonian system. The stable subspace is determined using either algorithms for computing an ordered periodic real Schur form of a cyclic matrix sequence, or a recently proposed method which implicitly constructs a stable deflating subspace from an associated lifted pencil. The third method reformulates the PRDE as a convex optimization problem where the stabilizing solution is approximated by its truncated Fourier series. As known, this reformulation leads to a semidefinite programming problem with linear matrix inequality constraints admitting an effective numerical realization. The numerical evaluation of the PRDE methods, with focus on the number of states (n) and the length of the period (T) of the periodic systems considered, includes both quantitative and qualitative results.  相似文献

The paper addresses the problem of solving linear algebraic systems the elements of which are, in the general case, nonlinear functions of a given set of independent parameters taking on their values within prescribed intervals. Three kinds of solutions are considered: (i) outer solution, (ii) interval hull solution, and (iii) inner solution. A simple direct method for computing a tight outer solution to such systems is suggested. It reduces, essentially, to inverting a real matrix and solving a system of real linear equations whose size n is the size of the original system. The interval hull solution (which is a NP-hard problem) can be easily determined if certain monotonicity conditions are fulfilled. The resulting method involves solving n+1 interval outer solution problems as well as 2n real linear systems of size n. A simple iterative method for computing an inner solution is also given. A numerical example illustrating the applicability of the methods suggested is solved.  相似文献

The inverse problem of determining an unknown source term depending on space variable in a parabolic equation is considered. A numerical algorithm is presented for recovering the unknown function and obtaining a solution of the problem. As this inverse problem is ill‐posed, Tikhonov regularization is used for finding a stable solution. For solving the direct problem, a Galerkin method with the Sinc basis functions in both the space and time domains is presented. This approximate solution displays an exponential convergence rate and is valid on the infinite time interval.
