In this paper a digital holographic phase shifting interferometric method is used to characterize the graded index (GR-IN) optical fibers. Off-axis digital holographic Mach–Zehnder like arrangement in aid of phase shifting tool is applied. Numerical reconstruction of phase shifted holograms is applied to calculate the optical phase difference distribution in the image plane, and then the optical phase differences across GR-IN fibers are extracted considering image enhancement and noise reduction steps. Also, a simple algorithm is presented to modify the position of the extracted optical phase differences across the fibers to be perpendicular to x-axis, so that it becomes easy to calculate the mean optical phase differences along the fiber. The mean optical phase differences in combination with multilayer model are applied to calculate the refractive index profiles across GR-IN optical fibers. An analytical model is presented to predict the mode distribution associated with the effective indices and the propagation coefficient of the parabolic refractive index profile GR-IN fiber.  相似文献

A tutorial review of diffraction tomography is given along with an overview of recent advances of this technique in borehole geophysics, ultrasonic imaging, and optical microscopy. First, the basic principles of diffraction tomography are presented. Then, we discuss a generalized inversion algorithm, valid for irregularly spaced data and a non-uniform background, and present reconstructions based on ultrasonic water tank data and underground georadar data. Next, we discuss a hybrid filtered backpropagation algorithm for ultrasonic and optical imaging. Quantitative images, based on experimental data, are presented of objects embedded in water or in biological tissue and probed by ultrasound, and of fibers embedded in an index matching liquid and probed by laser light.  相似文献

We demonstrate experimental generation of multi-bound solitons of up to sextuple in an active FM mode-locked fiber ring laser operating under power saturation in the locking state. The ring laser consists of two booster optical amplifiers operating in saturation regime, an electro-optic phase modulator driven by a sinusoidal electrical wave and a length of dispersive fiber. The periodic phase modulation generates phase chirp of the generated lightwaves in the ring laser. The chirped phase state plays an important role in the phase matching condition for mode-locking as well as the stabilization and the determination of the bound states of multi-solitons. The formation of such high order multi-bound solitons is explained based on the chirping of the phase and the behavior of the optical pulse sequence in the near field region of the dispersive fiber. The propagation of these multi-bound solitons through single mode optical fibers is observed. Experimental and simulation results of bound solitons have been shown to follow similar trends.The propagation of these multi-bound solitons through single mode optical fibers is described. Their mutual interaction through such quadratic phase media shows the influence of the quadratic phase property on the differential phase of individual solitons of the bound group. Simulated results confirm the evolution of the bound solitons over dispersive single mode optical fibers.  相似文献

应用变分法,研究了微扰对类明孤子在光纤巾非线性传输特性的影响,导出了类明孤子脉冲参量演化的动力学方程。它统一了在单模光纤、色散缓变光纤或色散控制光纤中类明孤子脉冲参量演化的动力学方程。在此基础上,计算了色散缓变光纤中的线性高阶色散微扰。结果表明:线性高阶色散对类明孤子脉冲的位置和相位有影响,而对振幅、宽度和啁啾没有影响;光纤色散缓变对类明孤子脉冲的所有参量均有影响。  相似文献

由M-Z干涉仪组成自准直干涉装置是一种抗干扰很强的干涉法测光纤非线性科尔系数γ的装置。由于测试脉冲强度受光纤的衰减和耦合器的分流,输入段和输出段脉冲强度不一样,势必要引入系统相移扰动,造成测试相移并非完全是测试光纤SPM效应引入的相移,对准确测量光纤非线性科尔系数γ值形成误差。理论分析了这种扰动的形成机理,引入扰动相移误差量。模拟分析了影响相移误差量的参数,优化这些参数,并且找到最优参数值,使相移误差量最小,且不受输入脉冲强度变化的影响。大大地改善了该系统的性能。最后试验测试了SMF光纤,和已有测试方法比较,波动范围明显减小。  相似文献

提出并建立了一种新型的基于光纤四波混频效应和压控光脉冲源的光锁相环路(OPLL),用于光时分复用系统(OTDM)中的时钟恢复过程。从理论上分析了其工作原理,及各模块结构和功能。利用高非线性光纤中的四波混频效应实现全光鉴相器,有效缩短了光纤长度,减小了光纤色散引起的脉冲走离,鉴相器消光比超过30 dB。采用再生锁模光纤激光器实现压控光脉冲源,在保证脉冲质量的前提下,重复频率调节范围达到380 kHz。在40 Gb/s时钟恢复实验中,获得脉宽为7.2 ps、接近变换极限的时钟脉冲,时间抖动(RMS)为152 fs,超模抑制比大于60 dB。实验证明,输入信号幅度波动和码型效应对环路影响很小。  相似文献

The application of quantitative phase microscopy to refractive-index profiling of optical fibers is demonstrated. Phase images of axially symmetric optical fibers immersed in index-matching fluid are obtained, and the inverse Abel transform is used to obtain the radial refractive-index profile. This technique is straightforward, nondestructive, repeatable, and accurate. Excellent agreement, to within approximately 0.0005, between this method and the index profile obtained with a commercial profiler is obtained.  相似文献

Polarization dispersion characteristics of microstructure optical fibers were analyzed. A significant difference between the spectral dependences of the phase and group birefringence of microstructure fibers and the polarization characteristics of a standard fiber having birefringence of the same order of magnitude is found. A new method for direct measurement of the phase birefringence is proposed and tested. The applicability of the technique for determining the phase birefringence with the use of the approximation known in the literature is analyzed.  相似文献

Effect of a pure binary phase filter on the three-dimensional light intensity distributions in focal region is theoretically investigated in this paper. The results show that the proposed binary phase filter may induce flat top profile with large depth of focus and reduced focal spot by properly adjusting the geometrical parameters of the binary phase filter of incident radially polarized hollow Gaussian beam (HGB) beam. On the other hand, the HGB beam benefits the most from the use of an annulus. Such kind of system is potentially useful for lithography, imaging, optical data storage, optical trapping, optical excitation of molecules, or coupling to optical fibers.  相似文献

传统的沿z轴光纤传输光线的轨道角动量(orbital angular momentum,OAM)光束的制备方法共同之处都是从内部结构着想,光束的主光线基本上不变,只是波面在变.但要获得携带高mh的光有一定的难度.针对上述问题,本文建立以波面不变,光束主光线变化为基础的理论框架,利用微分几何理论验证不沿z轴圆柱型光纤螺线圈传输的光线可以携带高mh OAM的理论设想.研究发现:利用流动坐标(α,β,γ)计算光线在绕圆柱体的光纤中传输时光纤截面的衍射分布图呈现涡旋特征,有高阶OAM模式.当θ=θ0时,圆柱形轨道光纤过渡到直线轨道光纤.计算光线沿直线传输时光纤截面的衍射分布图是Airy斑,即圆孔衍射斑,无高阶OAM模式.  相似文献

The dynamics of optical solitons propagating through birefringent optical fibers in a strong-dispersion managed system with damping and amplification is studied. A multiple-scale perturbation expansion method is used to analyze the vector nonlinear Schro¨dinger's equation. The pulse is decomposed into a rapidly varying phase and a slowly varying amplitude. The fast phase is calculated exactly and the coupled nonlocal evolution equation of the amplitude is derived.  相似文献

We predict dramatically reduced switching thresholds for nonlinear optical devices incorporating fiber ring resonators. The circulating power in such a resonator is much larger than the incident power; also, the phase of the transmitted light varies rapidly with the single-pass phase shift. The combined action of these effects leads to a finesse-squared reduction in the switching threshold, allowing for photonic switching devices that operate at milliwatt power levels in ordinary optical fibers.  相似文献

Two-mode optical fibers in which the refractive index varies periodically along the axis are considered. The effect of the imaginary part of a complex refractive index on the transformation and dispersion of a propagating optical pulse is studied theoretically. This paper presents a direct implementation scheme of the non-local multi-qubit controlled phase gate by using optical fibres and adiabatic passage. The smaller operation number for implementing the multi-qubit controlled phase gate and needlessness for addressing individually save physical resource and lower the difficulties of experiment. Mean- while, the scheme is immune from some decoherence effects such as the atomic spontaneous emission and fibre loss. In principle, it is scalable.  相似文献

The characterization of medium- to low-energy shaped pulses at 1.55 7m through frequency-resolved optical gating (FROG) is illustrated. This capability enables the study of ultrafast pulse propagation through optical fibers. The phase dynamics detected furnishes insight on pulse evolution, specifically on soliton formation - a subject of great importance for telecommunication applications. The combination of shaping and propagation of ultrafast pulses in fibers is examined theoretically using an adaptive pulse-shaping model, based on genetic algorithms, that furnishes optimized pulse shapes for fiber propagation.  相似文献

Accurate nondestructive refractive-index profiling is needed in the modeling, design, and manufacturing of optical fibers and fiber devices. Most profile measurement techniques cannot correctly characterize fibers with small or irregular refractive-index variations over their cross sections. Microinterferometric optical phase tomography (MIOPT) is a technique that allows measurement of fiber refractive-index profiles exhibiting such variations. We present the first demonstration, to our knowledge, of MIOPT. The profile of a polarization-maintaining fiber is measured by MIOPT and shown to be in agreement with (destructive) fiber end-face measurements. MIOPT is also applied to the limiting case of a symmetric single-mode fiber.  相似文献
