Controllability and observability of a heat equation with hyperbolic memory kernel

The exact controllability and observability for a heat equation with hyperbolic memory kernel in anisotropic and nonhomogeneous media are considered. Due to the appearance of such a kind of memory, the speed of propagation for solutions to the heat equation is finite and the corresponding controllability property has a certain nature similar to hyperbolic equations, and is significantly different from that of the usual parabolic equations. By means of Carleman estimate, we establish a positive controllability and observability result under some geometric condition. On the other hand, by a careful construction of highly concentrated approximate solutions to hyperbolic equations with memory, we present a negative controllability and observability result when the geometric condition is not satisfied.     

Controllability results for nondensely defined evolution differential inclusions with nonlocal conditions

In this paper we prove controllability results for some semilinear nondensely defined evolution differential inclusions in Banach spaces with nonlocal conditions.

Controllability of the wave equation with moving point control

This paper deals with approximate and exact controllability of the wave equation in finite time with interior point control acting along a curve specified in advance in the system's spatial domain. The structure of the control input is dual to the structure of the observations which describe the measurements of velocity and gradient of the solution of the dual system, obtained from the moving point sensor. A relevant formalization of such a control problem is discussed, based on transposition. For any given timeinterval [0,T] the existence of the curves providing approximate controllability inH _D ^–[n/2]–1 ()×H _D ^–[n/2]–1 () (wheren stands for the space dimension) is established with controls fromL ²(0,T; R ⁿ +1). The same curves ensure exact controllability inL ²() × H^–1() if controls are allowed to be selected in [L (0,T; R ⁿ+1)]. Null Controllability of Some Reaction-Diffusion Systems with Only One Control Force in Moving Domains

In this article, the authors establish the local null controllability property for semilinear parabolic systems in a domain whose boundary moves in time by a single control force acting on a prescribed subdomain. The proof is based on Kakutani's fixed point theorem combined with observability estimates for the associated linearized system.     

Controllability for neutral stochastic functional differential inclusions with infinite delay in abstract space

In this paper, sufficient conditions are given for the controllability of a class of partial stochastic functional differential inclusions with infinite delay in an abstract space with the help of the Leray-Schauder nonlinear alternative. An example is provided to illustrate the theory.     

Controllability of the second-order differential inclusion in Banach spaces

The purpose of this paper is to study the controllability for the second-order differential inclusion in Banach spaces. We rely on a fixed point theorem for condensing maps due to Martelli. We consider the damping term x′(·) and find a control u such that the solution satisfies x(T)=x¹ and x′(T)=y¹.     

Quantitative unique continuation for the semilinear heat equation in a convex domain

In this paper, we study certain unique continuation properties for solutions of the semilinear heat equation t_∂u−△u=g(u), with the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition, over Ω×(0,T_∗). Ω is a bounded, convex open subset of Rd, with a smooth boundary for the subset. The function g:R→R satisfies certain conditions. We establish some observation estimates for (u−v), where u and v are two solutions to the above-mentioned equation. The observation is made over ω×{T}, where ω is any non-empty open subset of Ω, and T is a positive number such that both u and v exist on the interval [0,T]. At least two results can be derived from these estimates: (i) if ‖(u−v)(⋅,T)_‖L²(ω)=δ, then ‖(u−v)(⋅,T)_‖L²(Ω)?Cδα where constants C>0 and α∈(0,1) can be independent of u and v in certain cases; (ii) if two solutions of the above equation hold the same value over ω×{T}, then they coincide over Ω×[0,Tm). Tm indicates the maximum number such that these two solutions exist on [0,Tm).     

Lipschitz continuity and duality for dynamic oligopolistic market equilibrium problem with memory term

We are concerned with an infinite dimensional variational inequality which is connected with the dynamic oligopolistic market equilibrium problem. We will provide existence theorems and show, under minimal assumptions on the data, the Lipschitz continuity of the solution. Moreover a general duality theory is provided overcoming the difficulty of the voidness of the interior of the ordering cone which defines the cone constraints.     

Controllability of semilinear boundary problems with nonlocal initial conditions

The main purpose of this paper is the existence of solutions and controllability for semilinear boundary problems with nonlocal initial conditions. We show that the solutions are given by a variation of constants formula which allows us to study the exact controllability for this kind of problems with control and nonlinear terms at the boundary. The included application to a size structured population equation provides a motivation for abstract results.     

Travelling waves for reaction-diffusion equations with time depending nonlinearities

The existence of travelling wave with given end points for parabolic system of nonlinear equations is proven. The nonlinear term depends also on a·x−ct where x is the multidimensional space variable, t—time, c—the speed of the wave and a—the direction of travel.     

Existence and Controllability Results for First-and Second-Order Functional Semilinear Differential Inclusions with Nonlocal Conditions

In this paper, we prove existence and controllability results for first- and second-order semilinear differential inclusions in Banach spaces with nonlocal conditions.

An error is pointed out in the paper [J.R. Kang, Y.C. Kwun, J.Y. Park, Controllability of second order differential inclusion in Banach spaces, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 285 (2003) 537-550]. By an additional condition the considered system is controllable.

Controllability for noninstantaneous impulsive semilinear functional differential inclusions without compactness

The first part of this paper considers the controllability for a functional semilinear differential inclusion governed by a family of operators $\{A\left(t\right):t\in [0,b]\}$ generating an evolution operator in a Banach space in the presence of noninstantaneous impulse effects. In the second part of this paper we study the controllability for a fractional noninstantaneous impulsive semilinear differential inclusion with delay, where the linear part is an infinitesimal generator of a $C_0?$semigroup. Using a weakly convergent criterion in the space of piecewise continuous functions and weak topology theory (for weak sequentially closed graph operators) we establish sufficient conditions to guarantee controllability results. Examples are given to illustrate the abstract results.     

Controllability properties for some semilinear parabolic PDE with a quadratic gradient term

We study several controllability properties for some semilinear parabolic PDE with a quadratic gradient term. For internal distributed controls, it is shown that the system is approximately and null controllable. The proof relies on the Cole–Hopf transformation. The same approach is used to deal with initial controls.
