The present study examines the crack problems in a functionally graded material (FGM) whose upper and bottom surfaces are fully bonded with dissimilar homogeneous materials. A so-called generalized Kelvin solution based boundary element method is used in the numerical examination. The multi-region method and the eight-node traction-singular boundary elements are used for the crack evaluation. The layer discretization technique is utilized to approximate the depth material non-homogeneity of the FGM layer. The proposed method can deal with any depth variations in both the shear modulus and the Poisson ratio of the FGMs. Results of the present analysis are compared very well with the exact analytical solutions available in the literature, which demonstrates that the proposed method can accurately evaluate the stress intensity factors (SIFs) for cracks in FGMs. The paper further evaluates the effect of the functionally graded variations in the Poisson ratio on the stress intensity factors. The paper also assesses the elliptical cracks in the FGM system. The paper presents the influence of both the non-homogeneity and the thickness of the FGM layer on the three SIFs associated with the elliptical cracks.  相似文献

This paper investigates the edge crack problem for a coating/substrate system with a functionally graded interfacial zone under the condition of antiplane deformation. With the interfacial zone being modeled by a nonhomogeneous interlayer having the continuously varying shear modulus between the dissimilar, homogeneous phases of the coated medium, the coating is assumed to contain an edge crack at an arbitrary angle to the interfacial zone. The Fourier integral transform method is used in conjunction with the coordinate transformations of basic field variables. Formulation of the proposed crack problem is then reduced to solving a singular integral equation with a generalized Cauchy kernel. The mode III stress intensity factors are defined and evaluated in terms of the solution to the integral equation. In the numerical results, the values of the stress intensity factors are plotted, illustrating the effects of the crack orientation angle for various material and geometric combinations of the coating/substrate system with the graded interfacial zone.  相似文献

An internal crack located within a functionally graded material (FGM) strip bonded with two dissimilar half-planes and under an anti-plane load is considered. The crack is oriented in an arbitrary direction. The material properties of strip are assumed to vary exponentially in the thickness direction and two half-planes are assumed to be isotropic. Governing differential equations are derived and to reduce the difficulty of the problem dealing with solution of a system of singular integral equations Fourier integral transform is employed. Semi closed form solution for the stress distribution in the medium is obtained and mode III stress intensity factor (SIF), at the crack tip is calculated and its validity was verified. Finally, the effects of nonhomogeneous material parameter and crack orientation on the stress intensity factor are studied.  相似文献

This paper contains a theoretical formulations and solutions of multiple cracks sub- jected to an anti-plane time-harmonic point load in a functionally graded strip. The distributed dislocation technique is used to construct integral equations for a functionally graded material strip weakened by several cracks under anti-plane time-harmonic load. These equations are of Cauchy singular type at the location of dislocation, which are solved numerically to obtain the dislocation density on the faces of the cracks. The dislocation densities are employed to evaluate the stress intensity factor and strain energy density factors (SEDFs) for multiple cracks with differ- ent configurations. Numerical calculations are presented to show the effects of material properties and the crack configuration on the dynamic stress intensity factors and SEDFs of the functionally graded strip with multiple curved cracks.  相似文献

Plane thermoelasticity solutions are presented for the problem of a crack in bonded materials with a graded interfacial zone. The interfacial zone is treated as a nonhomogeneous interlayer having spatially varying thermoelastic moduli between dissimilar, homogeneous half-planes. The crack is assumed to exist in one of the half-planes at an arbitrary angle to the graded interfacial zone, disturbing uniform steady-state heat flows. The Fourier integral transform method is employed in conjunction with the coordinate transformations of field variables in the basic thermoelasticity equations. Formulation of the current nonisothermal crack problem lends itself to the derivation of two sets of Cauchy-type singular integral equations for heat conduction and thermal stress analyses. The heat-flux intensity factors and the thermal-stress intensity factors are defined and evaluated in order to quantify the singular characters of temperature gradients and thermal stresses, respectively, in the near-tip region. Numerical results include the variations of such crack-tip field intensity factors versus the crack orientation angle for various combinations of material and geometric parameters of the dissimilar media bonded through the thermoelastically graded interfacial zone. The dependence of the near-tip thermoelastic singular field on the degree of crack-surface partial insulation is also addressed.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the study of the influence of a mixed-mode crack on the coupled response of a functionally graded magnetoelectroelastic material (FGMEEM). The crack is embedded at the center of a 2D infinite medium subjected to magnetoelectromechanical loads. The material is graded in the direction orthogonal to the crack plane and is modeled as a nonhomogeneous medium with anisotropic constitutive laws. Using Fourier transform, the resulting plane magnetoelectroelasticity equations are converted analytically into singular integral equations which are solved numerically to yield the crack-tip mode I and II stress intensity factors, the electric displacement intensity factors and the magnetic induction intensity factors. The main objective of this paper is to study the influence of material nonhomogeneity on the fields’ intensity factors for the purpose of gaining better understanding on the behavior of graded magnetoelectroelastic materials.  相似文献

We study the deformation of a crack between a soft elastomer and a rigid substrate with finite interfacial slippage. It is assumed that slippage occurs when the interfacial shear traction exceeds a threshold. This leads to a slip zone ahead of the crack tip where the shear traction is assumed to be equal to the constant threshold. We perform asymptotic analysis and determine closed-form solutions describing the near-tip crack opening displacement and the corresponding stress distributions. These solutions are consistent with numerical results based on finite element analysis. Our results reveal that slippage can significantly affect the deformation and stress fields near the tip of the interface crack. Specifically, depending on the direction of slippage, the crack opening profile may appear more blunted or sharpened than the parabola arising from for the case of zero interfacial shear traction or free slippage. The detailed crack opening profile is determined by the constant shear traction in the slip zone. More importantly, we find that the normal stress perpendicular to the interface can increase or decrease when slippage occurs, depending on the direction of slippage and the shear traction in the slip zone.  相似文献

This paper presents a transient dynamic crack analysis for a functionally graded material (FGM) by using a hypersingular time-domain boundary integral equation method. The spatial variations of the material parameters of the FGM are described by an exponential law. A numerical solution procedure is developed for solving the hypersingular time-domain traction BIE. To avoid the use of time-dependent Green’s functions which are not available for general FGM, a convolution quadrature formula is adopted for approximating the temporal convolution, while a Galerkin method is applied for the spatial discretization of the hypersingular time-domain traction BIE. Numerical results for the transient dynamic stress intensity factors for a finite crack in an infinite and linear elastic FGM subjected to an impact anti-plane crack-face loading are presented and discussed. The effects of the material gradients of the FGM on the transient dynamic stress intensity factors and their dynamic overshoot over the corresponding static stress intensity factors are analyzed.  相似文献

In this paper, the mixed-mode penny-shaped crack problem for a functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM) strip is considered. It is assumed that the electroelastic properties of the strip vary continuously along the thickness of the strip, and that the strip is under in-plane electromechanical loadings. The problem is formulated in terms of a system of singular integral equations. The stress and electric displacement intensity factors are presented for various values of dimensionless parameters representing the crack size, the crack location, and the material nonhomogeneity.  相似文献

In this paper, a two dimensional functionally graded material (2D-FGM) under an anti-plane load with an internal crack is considered. The crack is oriented in an arbitrary direction. The material properties are assumed to vary exponentially in two planar directions. The problem is analyzed and solved by two different methods namely Fourier integral transforms with singular integral equation technique, and then by the finite element method. The effects of crack orientation, material non-homogeneity, and other parameters on the value of stress intensity factor (SIF) are studied. Finally, the obtained results for Mode III stress intensity factor of different methods are compared.  相似文献

This paper deals with the antiplane magnetoelectroelastic problem of an internal crack normal to the edge of a functionally graded piezoelectric/piezomagnetic half plane. The properties of the material such as elastic modulus, piezoelectric constant, dielectric constant, piezomagnetic coefficient, magnetoelectric coefficient and magnetic permeability are assumed in exponential forms and vary along the crack direction. Fourier transforms are used to reduce the impermeable and permeable crack problems to a system of singular integral equations, which is solved numerically by using the Gauss-Chebyshev integration technique. The stress, electric displacement and magnetic induction intensity factors at the crack tips are determined numerically. The energy density theory is applied to study the effects of nonhomogeneous material parameter β, edge conditions, location of the crack and load ratios on the fracture behavior of the internal crack.  相似文献

The dynamic fracture problem for a functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM) strip containing a crack parallel to the free boundaries is considered in this study. It is assumed that the electroelastic properties of the strip vary continuously along the thickness direction of the strip, and that the strip is under the in-plane mechanical and electric impact. Integral transform techniques and dislocation density functions are employed to reduce the problem to the solutions of a system of singular integral equations. The dynamic stress and electric displacement intensity factors versus time are presented for various values of dimensionless parameters representing the crack size, the crack location, the material nonhomogeneity and the loading combination.  相似文献

Summary A finite crack propagating at constant speed in a functionally graded piezoelectric strip (FGPS) bonded to a homogeneous piezoelectric strip is considered. It is assumed that the electroelastic material properties of the FGPS vary exponentially across the thickness of the strip, and that the bimaterial strip is under combined anti-plane mechanical shear and in-plane electrical loads. The analysis is conducted for the electrically unified crack boundary condition, which includes both the traditional permeable and the impermeable ones. By using the Fourier transform, the problem is reduced to the solution of Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. Numerical results for the stress intensity factor and the crack sliding displacement are presented to show the influences of the crack propagation speed, electric loads, FGPS gradation, crack length, electromechanical coupling coefficient, properties of the bonded homogeneous piezoelectric strip and crack location.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the elasto-static problem of an embedded crack in a graded orthotropic coating bonded to a homogeneous substrate subject to statically applied normal and tangential surface loading. The crack direction is parallel to the free surface. The coating is graded in the thickness direction and is orthogonal to the crack direction. This coating is modelled as a non-homogeneous medium with an orthotropic stress–strain law. The equivalent crack surface stresses are first obtained and substituted in the plane elasticity equations. Using integral transforms, the governing equations are converted into singular integral equations which are solved numerically to yield the displacement field as well as the crack-tip stress intensity factors. This study presents a complete theoretical formulation for the problem in the static case. A numerical predictive capability for solving the singular integral equations and computing the crack-tip stress intensity factors is proposed. Since the loading is compressive, a previously developed crack-closure algorithm is applied to avoid interpenetration of the crack faces. The main objective of the paper is to investigate the effects of the material orthotropy and non-homogeneity of the graded coating on the crack-tip stress intensity factors, with and without using the crack-closure algorithm, for the purpose of gaining better understanding on the behavior and design of graded coatings.  相似文献

Three-dimensional enriched finite elements are used to compute mixed-mode stress intensity factors (SIFs) for three-dimensional cracks in elastic functionally graded materials (FGMs) that are subject to general mixed-mode loading and constraint conditions. The method, which advantageously does not require special mesh configuration/modifications and post-processing of finite element results, is an enhancement of previous developments applied so far on isotropic homogeneous and isotropic interface cracks. The spatial variation of FGM material properties is taken into account at the level of element integration points. To validate the developed method, two- and three-dimensional mixed-mode fracture problems are selected from the literature for comparison. Two-dimensional cases include: inclined central crack in a large FGM medium under uniform tensile strain and stress loadings, a slanted crack in a finite-size FGM plate under exponentially varying tensile stress loading and an edge crack in a finite-size plate under shear traction load. The three-dimensional example models a deflected surface crack in a finite-size FGM plate under uniform tensile stress loading. Comparisons between current results and those from analytical and other numerical methods yield good agreement. Thus, it is concluded that the developed three-dimensional enriched finite elements are capable of accurately computing mixed-mode fracture parameters for cracks in FGMs.  相似文献
