Almost uniform wide-angle laser irradiation, for use in medical applications, is achieved by roughening chemically the output end of an optical fibre. The angular distribution of the scattered light is studied theoretically using perturbation theory. The theoretical results evaluated from a simple method of calculation are in sufficiently good agreement with experiment.  相似文献

Cirrus clouds play an important role in the climate through their optical and microphysical properties. The problem with measuring optical properties of these clouds can be partially addressed by using lidar systems. This paper presents a new model for describing the multiple scattering contribution to the backscatter signal measured by the lidar system. The new lidar equation introduced this way, expresses the backscatter signal in terms of a polynomial function of the cloud scattering coefficient. Cloud optical properties such as the extinction coefficient and lidar ratio can be deduced from the new proposed lidar equation. Moreover, some cloud microphysical properties can also be inferred from these optical properties. The method is applied to lidar data collected by the micropulsed lidar operating at Nauru under the auspices of the US Department of Energy ARM program.  相似文献

An optical fibre interferometer can be made to phase-stabilize by simply attaching a short length of one arm of the interferometer to a straight copper track and heating the track with an electric current. This feedback thermal stabilization scheme works well even for relatively short fibre lengths and there is no need to treat or unjacket the fibre. A fibre-optic Michelson interferometer stabilized by this method successfully provided object and reference beams for real-time holographic interferometric measurements of the distortion of heated test objects.  相似文献

This paper reviews the theoretical analysis of light propagation we have carried out on multimode multi‐step index (MSI) optical fibres. Starting from the Eikonal equation, we derive the analytical expressions that allow calculating the ray trajectories inside these fibres. We also analyse the effects of leaky rays on the transmission properties of MSI fibres. For this purpose, a single analytical expression for the evaluation of the ray power transmission coefficient is calculated. Afterwards, we investigate the effects of extrinsic and intrinsic coupling losses on the performance of MSI fibres, providing analytical expressions to calculate the coupling loss and, also, determining the most critical parameters. Finally, we carry out a comprehensive numerical analysis of the fibre bandwidth under different source configurations.  相似文献

Based on the practical situation of nondestructive examination, the calculation model of the composite scattering is established by using a three-dimensional half-space finite difference time domain, and the Monte Carlo method is used to solve the problem of the optical surface with roughness in the proposed scheme. Moreover, the defect particles are observed as periodic particles for a more complex situation. In order to obtain the scattering contribution of defects inside the optical surface, a difference radar cross section is added into the model to analyze the selected calculations on the effects of numbers, separation distances, different depths and different materials of defects. The effects of different incident angles are also discussed. The numerical results are analyzed in detail to demonstrate the best position to find the defects in the optical surface by detecting in steps of a fixed degree for the incident angle.  相似文献

把雪崩电离模型引入受激布里渊散射模型中,数值模拟了无光学击穿和有光学击穿时受激布里渊散射能量反射率随输入光功率密度的变化规律.实验上选取净化和未净化的CCl4作为散射介质,在Nd:YAG调Q激光系统中进行了验证,理论与实验符合得很好.结果表明:当无光学击穿时,随着输入光功率密度的增大,能量反射率先是非线性增大,然后缓慢增大趋于饱和;而当有光学击穿时,随着输入光功率密度的增大,能量反射率先是非线性增大,达到最高值之后开始下降,最终趋于零.无光学击穿时的能量反射率及其稳定度明显高于有光学击穿时的情况. 关键词: 受激布里渊散射 光学击穿 雪崩电离  相似文献

Optical waveguide theory is an established part of optical physics. Yet only recently have fundamental phenomena such as spatial eigenmodes and principal modes been demonstrated experimentally. This work leverages recently developed techniques enabling detailed spatiotemporal characterisation of multimode fibre to provide new insights into the fundamentals of fibre propagation. This paper presents detailed analysis of all 420 of a fibre's principal modes and spatial eigenmodes and compares the similarity and differences between these two phenomena. It was found that even over very short lengths, the principal modes can not only significantly suppress modal dispersion but are also a more physically meaningful basis than spatial eigenmodes.

We have carried out a theoretical calculation of the differential cross section for the electron Raman scattering process associated with the surface optical phonon modes in a semiconductor quantum disc.electron states are considered to be confined within a quantum disc with infinite potential barriers.The optical phonon modes we have adopted are the slab phonon modes by taking into consideration the Frohlich interaction between an electron and a phonon.The selection rules for the Raman process are given.Numerical results and a discussion are also presented for various radii and thicknesses of the disc,and different incident radiation energies.  相似文献

由于大气衰减的影响,非视线散射大气光通信需要使用光学天线以提高对光信号的采集能力,进而增加通信距离。针对非视线大气光通信的需求,利用ZEMAX软件对半球透镜、复合抛物面聚光器(CPC)和卡塞格伦望远镜等光学天线进行了性能分析。分析表明:半球透镜和CPC视场较大,增益值高。利用蒙特卡罗法模拟计算了一定条件下,非视线散射光通信在有无半球透镜或CPC作光学天线时到达探测元件的能量随通信距离的变化。结果表明:CPC聚光能力更强,适合作为非视线散射光通信的光学天线。  相似文献

The atmospheric scattering optical transfer function (OTF) is solved by applying the multi-coupled single scattering (MCSS) method to the three-dimensional radiative transfer equation (RTE) under the periodic ground condition. This approach is a direct hit to the atmospheric scattering OTF using the same original context of modulation transfer function (MTF) measurement, i.e., images of sinusoidal grating at different spatial frequencies. Both the amplitude and phase shift of the OTF at various zenith and azimuth angles can be obtained at an arbitrary spatial frequency.  相似文献

Theoretical analysis of a recently experimentally demonstrated erbium-doped twin-core (ErTCF) fibre saturable-absorber-based narrow-band tracking filter is presented. Basic qualitative characteristics of the filter are deduced from an analogy with an ideally inhomogeneously broadened saturable absorber while the effect of wide band saturation of absorption due to spatial overlap of individual spectral components of the radiation is studied in detail using a numerical model based on coupled mode theory, resolved in space and frequency. The effect of the input power, twin-core fibre length and laser operating wavelength on the spectral characteristics of the filter is investigated.  相似文献

利用Mie理论模型对不同粒径分布和复折射率的浮游植物吸收和散射特性进行了模拟计算。在550nm波长处,直径<10μm的颗粒对总的散射系数贡献最大,单位体积浓度的散射系数随着折射率实部n的增大呈有规律的地增加。对给定的n值来说,随着微分粒径分布参数j值的增大而增加,折射率实部n对单位色素浓度的吸收系数ap*(λ)的影响很小,对bp*(λ)影响相对较大。折射率虚部n′对单位色素浓度的吸收系数ap*(λ)的影响很大,对bp*(λ)的影响相对较小。微分粒径分布参数j对ap*(λ)和bp*(λ)的影响都很大,ap*(λ)随j值的减小而减小的主要原因是因为大颗粒“打包效应”引起的吸收减弱,而bp*(λ)随j值的增大而增大的主要原因是因为小粒径颗粒对散射的贡献。  相似文献

The integrodifferential equation method is used to study the spectrum of a nanoparticle colloid for the example of interaction of three arbitrarily arranged dielectric particles made up of nonresonant atoms (the eigenfrequency of the transition is far from the emission frequency) with incorporated barium atoms in an external optical radiation field. The effect on the light-scattering properties of a nanosphere in the ensemble of its distant “neighbors” is studied; an additional peak associated with them is observed as a frequency close to the resonance for an isolated nanosphere, which under certain conditions has higher intensity than the main peak corresponding to optical near-field resonance in a two-particle system. New techniques for measuring and analysing the strength characteristics of optical waveguide fibres have evolved as the strength of the optical fibres improved. A recent life-fatigue experiment is described and the results analysed in terms of the most commonly used theoretical model which results in the power law V = AKn. Ten m long fibre samples were tensilely stressed in a high humidity environment by both fixed (static fatigue) and constant rate (dynamic fatigue) loads. The respective test values for the power law exponent, the fatigue constant ‘n’, were 38 and 17. The results of the tests indicate the more conservative value, 17, for practical engineering design, and the need for incorporating an ageing term in the model.  相似文献
