研究了在各向异性外腔下微片Nd:YAG激光器调频回馈特性.作为对比,首先给出了在各向同性外腔下调频回馈结果,激光器输出功率的半波条纹数正比于外、内腔长度之比.在回馈外腔中内置一个四分之一波片,激光偏振态发生规律性跳变,每个纵模带宽内的偏振跳变次数正比于外、内腔长之比,相同外腔长下,回馈条纹再次倍频.进行了基于法布里-珀罗腔等效模型的理论分析,结果和实验相符合.此现象在精密测量领域有潜在应用. 关键词: 光回馈 调频回馈 各向异性外腔 半波条纹数  相似文献

The properties of low-frequency fluctuations in semiconductor lasers with optical feedback from a long external cavity are experimentally studied. Frequency-locking of the laser light output to the injection current modulation is observed when the modulation frequency approaches the external cavity mode. The modulation frequency for the successful frequency-locking is always less than the external cavity mode frequency and the locking domains as a function of the modulation amplitude is asymmetric with respect to the frequency detuning.  相似文献

The amplification of a modulation by an optical transistor is shown to depend on the modulation frequency. At high frequency there is no amplification whereas at low frequency the expected amplification occurs. The critical frequency which separates these two domains depends on the modulation amplitude. These results are derived analytically for purely dispersive optical bistability in the bad cavity case. The modulation can be applied to the holding beam, to the refraction index or to the detuning with similar results for the output field intensity.  相似文献

A detailed numerical study of dynamical behavior of a semiconductor laser under current modulation and cavity detuning has been performed on the base of four different models of the active medium which take into account direct transitions between ground subbands, transitions with no k-selection rule between ground subbands and contribution of excited subbands in each of the above-mentioned cases. We have shown that different nonlinear regimes (period doubling, chaos, generalized bistability) can be obtained either with cavity detuning from the gain band maximum or near the laser threshold.It has been established that the shape and principal peculiarities of amplitude detuning characteristics are determined by the relation between the current modulation frequency and maximum resonance frequency of the laser.PACS numbers: 05.45.Pq, 42.55.Px, 42.65.Sf  相似文献

It is well known that an optical trap can be imprinted by a light field in an ultracold-atom system embedded in an optical cavity,and driven by three different coherent fields.Of the three fields coexisting in the optical cavity there is an intense control field that induces a giant Kerr nonlinearity via electromagnetically-induced transparency,and another field that creates a periodic optical grating of strength proportional to the square of the associated Rabi frequency.In this work elliptic-soliton solutions to the nonlinear equation governing the propagation of the probe field are considered,with emphasis on the possible generation of optical soliton trains forming a discrete spectrum with well defined quantum numbers.The problem is treated assuming two distinct types of periodic optical gratings and taking into account the negative and positive signs of detunings(detuning above or below resonance).Results predict that the competition between the self-phase and cross-phase modulation nonlinearities gives rise to a rich family of temporal soliton train modes characterized by distinct quantum numbers.  相似文献

利用光纤环长外腔光反馈半导体激光器产生了频谱平坦的宽带混沌激光,其对应的激光频谱可有效地隐藏外腔的谐振频率,增加了系统的保密性.通过单向耦合方式,将产生的混沌激光注入到另一个参数相近的半导体激光器中,实现了平坦宽带混沌同步输出,两同步激光器输出的相关系数达到084.同时实验研究了注入强度和主从激光器的频率失谐对同步质量的影响,结果表明在强光注入锁定下,在很大频率失谐范围内均可实现同步,而且注入强度越大,主从激光器输出的相关系数越大,维持混沌同步所允许的频率失谐范围越大. 关键词: 混沌同步 单向光纤环 光反馈 半导体激光器  相似文献

基于光反馈半导体激光器(SL)速率方程模型,理论仿真研究了高斯切趾型光纤布拉格光栅(GAFBG)反馈SL(GAFBGF-SL)混沌输出的延时特征(TDS)以及混沌带宽特性.结果表明:随着反馈强度的增加,GAFBGF-SL表现出由准周期进入混沌的动力学演化路径;通过合理选择GAFBG布拉格频率与SL中心频率之间的频率失谐及反馈强度,GAFBGF-SL混沌输出的TDS能得到有效抑制(低于0.02);通过进一步绘制混沌信号TDS及带宽在GAFBG布拉格频率与SL中心频率之间的频率失谐和反馈强度构成的参量空间中的分布图,确定了获取弱TDS、宽带宽光混沌信号的参数范围.  相似文献

The parametric generation of broad spectral bandwidths by the use of suitable phase-matching geometries is reported. Greater than 100-nm simultaneous bandwidth in the visible is generated in a collimated signal beam from a novel, noncollinear phase-matching geometry in a beta-barium borate optical parametric oscillator, which is pumped by the collimated output of a Q -switched and frequency-tripled Nd:YAG laser. Dispersive cavity tuning of the optical parametric oscillator by use of a rotatable Littrow-mounted grating, with a static crystal and pump configuration, is also described. A tunable bandwidth of >100 nm is also demonstrated.  相似文献

The dynamics of an ensemble of two-level atoms moving through a single-mode lossless cavity is investigated in the semiclassical and rotating-wave approximations. The dynamical system for the expectation values of the atomic and field observables is considered as a perturbation to one of the following integrable versions: (i) a model with atoms moving through a spatially inhomogeneous resonant field, and (ii) a model with atoms interacting with a nonresonant eigenmode which is assumed to be homogeneous on the cavity size. We find the general exact solutions for both the models and show that they contain special solutions describing a coherent effect of population and radiation trapping. Using the Melnikov method, we prove analytically transverse intersections of stable and unstable manifolds of a hyperbolic fixed point under a small modulation of the vacuum Rabi frequency. These intersections are believed to provide the Smale horseshoe mechanism of Hamiltonian chaos. The analytical results are accompanied with direct computation of topographical maps of maximal Lyapunov exponents that give a representative image of regularity and chaos in the atom-field system in different ranges of its control parameters--the frequency detuning, the number, and the velocity of atoms.  相似文献

The paper explores the possibilities to extend the direct modulation bandwidth in dual-longitudinal-mode distributed feedback lasers by exploiting the photon–photon resonance induced by the interaction of the two modes in the laser cavity. The effects on the direct amplitude modulation and on the direct modulation of the difference frequency between the two modes are analyzed using simulation and experimental results. When the photon–photon resonance, which occurs at the difference frequency between the two modes, is properly placed at a higher frequency than the carrier-photon resonance, the small-signal amplitude modulation (AM) bandwidth of the laser can be significantly increased. However, both simulations and experiments point out that a high small-signal AM bandwidth does not lead to a high large-signal AM bandwidth if the small-signal modulation response has significant variations across the modulation bandwidth. The paper shows that a high large-signal AM bandwidth is obtained when the two modes are significantly unbalanced, whereas a high-bandwidth difference frequency modulation can be best detected when the two modes are balanced and the DC bias is properly chosen.  相似文献

Generation of tunable near-infrared picosecond and subpicosecond pulses in a synchronously pumped cw mode-locked Oxazine-1-perchlorate dye laser has been investigated for different values of the important system parameters. The experimental results confirm the predictions of a simple theoretical model which describes the steady-state pulse duration in terms of gain modulation strength, pump power, intracavity bandwidth, pump pulse length and cavity detuning. For a pump-pulse length of 100 ps and a bandwidth of more than 500 Å for the intracavity tuning element dye-laser pulses as short as 0.35 ps have been obtained. Under these conditions up to 100 mW of average output power were provided. In addition, mode-locking of an Oxazine 750 dye laser by synchronous pumping with the cw train of pulses obtained from the Oxazine-1-Perchlorate laser is reported.  相似文献

Nonresonant cascaded acousto-optic mode coupling under an overall phase-matching condition is presented, where phase matching is not satisfied for each of the coupling stages but the sum of the two acoustic momenta matches the optical phase detuning between the source mode and the destination mode. As a special nonresonant cascaded case, conversion from LP(01) to LP(21) and LP(02) driven by a single acoustic frequency is predicted theoretically and demonstrated experimentally.  相似文献

微片激光器由于自身的内应力会输出频率分裂的正交偏振的两个模式.研究了回馈对微片激光器频差的影响.研究发现:在回馈的作用下微片激光器的频差大小呈现出以初始频差为中心的类正弦的频差调制,周期为λ/2;频差调制曲线的幅度与回馈水平成正比,但是当回馈水平过强时会出现偏振态跳变,从而使频差消失;在一定的回馈外腔范围内,频差调制曲线的幅度与初始频差亦成正比.并利用复合腔模型和激光器的自洽理论进行了理论分析和模拟,所得结果与实验结果相符.此调制现象在精密测量领域有潜在应用.  相似文献

A combination of optical feedback self-locking of a continuous-wave distributed feedback diode laser to a V-shaped high finesse cavity, laser phase modulation at a frequency equal to the free spectral range of the V-cavity and detection of the transmitted laser beam at this high modulation frequency is described for the possible application in cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy. In order to estimate the noise level of an absorbance baseline, the triplet of frequency modulated light, i.e. the central laser frequency and the two sidebands, were transmitted through both the V-cavity in open air and a 1.5-cm long optical cell placed behind the cavity output mirror and filled with acetylene (C2H2) at low pressure. The performance of the setup was evaluated from the measured relative intensity noise on the cavity output (normalised by the bandwidth) and the frequency modulation absorption signals induced by C2H2 absorption in the 1.5-cm cell. From these data, we estimate that the noise-equivalent absorption sensitivity of 2.1 × 10?11 cm?1 Hz?1/2—by a factor of 11.7 above the shot-noise limit—can be achieved for C2H2 absorption spectra extracted from the heterodyne beat signals recorded at the transmission maxima intensity peaks of the successive TEM00 resonances.  相似文献

Tracking unstable periodic orbits and its stabilization by large periodic modulation of a control parameter are studied numerically in the Hénon map and laser equations. Some important scaling relations linking the tracking range to the modulation amplitude and frequency are deduced. The results obtained with both models are compared. We study the nonlinear dynamics of the interaction of two-level atoms and a selected mode of a high-Q cavity with frequency modulation analytically and numerically. In the absence of modulation, the corresponding semiclassical Heisenberg equations for the expectation values of the collective atomic observables and the field-mode amplitudes allow, in the rotating wave approximation and in the strong-coupling limit, an exact solution with arbitrary detuning. Using this solution, we detect the coherent effect of trapping of the population of atomic levels and of trapping of the number of photons in the cavity. The explanation for this effect lies in the destructive interference of the atomic dipoles and the field mode. The integrable version of the system of equations exhibits a separatrix near which a stochastic layer is formed when modulation is introduced. The width of the layer is found to gradually increase with degree of modulation, and finally it fills the entire energy-permissible volume of the phase space. We show that the rotating wave approximation does not hinder the formation of Hamiltonian chaos in cavity semiclassical electrodynamics. The calculation of the maximum Lyapunov indices of nonlinear (in this approximation) equations of motion as functions of the modulation frequency δ and the frequency of natural Rabi oscillations of the atom-field system, Ω, suggests that Hamiltonian chaos appears first in the area of the fundamental parametric resonance, δ/2Ω≃1. Parametric instability increases with increasing modulation and decreasing detuning from the atom-field resonance, generating at exact resonance new areas of chaos corresponding to multiple parametric resonances. The results of numerical experiments and estimates of the characteristic parameters show that Rydberg atoms placed in a high-Q microwave cavity are possible objects for observing parametric instability and dynamical chaos. Early theoretical predictions and later experimental work have shown that lasers with quantum well active areas have enhanced differential gain over bulk lasers. The resonance frequency in a semiconductor laser is proportional to the square root of the differential gain. The resonance frequency is directly related to the modulation bandwidth, and the enhancement in the intrinsic differential gain led to theoretical predictions of increased modulation bandwidth in quantum well lasers. This enhancement in the modulation bandwidth proved to be elusive initially, and later it was realized that other factors, namely carrier transport effects, played a more dominant role in the high-speed properties of quantum well lasers. Carrier transport effects, in addition to bandfilling, affect a wide range of static and dynamic properties of the quantum well lasers. This paper will present an overview of our present understanding of the carrier transport processes and their effects in quantum well lasers.  相似文献

The nonlinear dynamics of a waveguide CO2 laser with combined periodic loss and pumping modulation is investigated theoretically and experimentally. The possibilities of controlling time and energy parameters of the output radiation using the corresponding selection of the detuning of the cavity's longitudinal mode from the center of the amplification line, the amplitude, and the frequency of loss modulation are demonstrated. The observed asymmetric dependence of the lasing-radiation density on the detuning of the cavity frequency is explained by the attendant modulation of the refractive index of the loss modulator. It is shown that the coherence lengths for terahertz (THz) generation based on difference-frequency generation within an ultrafast infrared pulse can be sufficiently long for a wide bandwidth about each phase-matching wavelength owing to a slight dispersion in the THz region. As a result, quasi-single-cycle THz pulses can be efficiently generated. An efficient conversion for the parametric process is made possible not only by use of the wide phase-matching bandwidth but also by optimization of the pulse width for each peak THz frequency. I have investigated the strong-pump regime and found the limits to the conversion efficiencies to generate high peak intensities efficiently for THz waves with which to explore nonlinear regimes of the THz interactions.  相似文献
