A representation of total angular momentum conservation in energy space is described. Several advantages of such a representation are discussed, primarily in connection with statistical unimolecular theory, experimental branching ratios and product energy distributions. Specific examples are given for the systems K + CsF and O + I2.  相似文献

The energy transfer dynamics between highly vibrationally excited azulene molecules (37 582 cm(-1) internal energy) and Ar atoms in a series of collision energies (200, 492, 747, and 983 cm(-1)) was studied using a crossed-beam apparatus along with time-sliced velocity map ion imaging techniques. The angular resolved collisional energy-transfer probability distribution functions were measured directly from the scattering results of highly vibrationally excited azulene. Direct T-VR energy transfer was found to be quite efficient. In some instances, nearly all of the translational energy is transferred to vibrational/rotational energy. On the other hand, only a small fraction of vibrational energy is converted to translational energy (V-T). Significant amount of energy transfer from vibration to translation was observed at large collision energies in backward and sideway directions. The ratios of total cross sections between T-VR and V-T increases as collision energy increases. Formation of azulene-argon complexes during the collision was observed at low enough collision energies. The complexes make only minor contributions to the measured translational to vibrational/rotational (T-VR) energy transfer.  相似文献

The translational kinetic energy release distribution (KERD) for the halogen loss reaction of the bromobenzene and iodobenzene cations has been reinvestigated on the microsecond time scale. Two necessary conditions of validity of the orbiting transition state theory (OTST) for the calculation of kinetic energy release distributions (KERDs) have been formulated. One of them examines the central ion-induced dipole potential approximation. As a second criterion, an adiabatic parameter is derived. The lower the released translational energy and the total angular momentum, the larger the reduced mass, the rotational constant of the molecular fragment, and the polarizability of the released atom, the more valid is the OTST. Only the low-energy dissociation of the iodobenzene ion (E approximately 0.45 eV, where E is the internal energy above the reaction threshold) is found to fulfill the criteria of validity of the OTST. The constraints that act on the dissociation dynamics have been studied by the maximum entropy method. Calculations of entropy deficiencies (which measure the deviation from a microcanonical distribution) show that the pair of fragments does not sample the whole of the phase space that is compatible with the mere specification of the internal energy. The major constraint that results from conservation of angular momentum is related to a reduction of the dimensionality of the dynamics of the translational motion to a two-dimensional space. A second and minor constraint that affects the KERD leads to a suppression of small translational releases, i.e., accounts for threshold behavior. At high internal energies, the effects of curvature of the reaction path and of angular momentum conservation are intricately intermeddled and it is not possible to specify the share of each effect.  相似文献

Time-dependent wave packet quantum scattering (TWQS) calculations are presented for HD(+) (v = 0 - 3;j(0)=1) + He collisions in the center-of-mass collision energy (E(T)) range of 0.0-2.0 eV. The present TWQS approach accounts for Coriolis coupling and uses the ab initio potential energy surface of Palmieri et al. [Mol. Phys. 98, 1839 (2000)]. For a fixed total angular momentum J, the energy dependence of reaction probabilities exhibits quantum resonance structure. The resonances are more pronounced for low J values and for the HeH(+) + D channel than for the HeD(+) + H channel and are particularly prominent near threshold. The quantum effects are no longer discernable in the integral cross sections, which compare closely to quasiclassical trajectory calculations conducted on the same potential energy surface. The integral cross sections also compare well to recent state-selected experimental values over the same reactant and translational energy range. Classical impulsive dynamics and steric arguments can account for the significant isotope effect in favor of the deuteron transfer channel observed for HD(+)(v<3) and low translational energies. At higher reactant energies, angular momentum constraints favor the proton-transfer channel, and isotopic differences in the integral cross sections are no longer significant. The integral cross sections as well as the J dependence of partial cross sections exhibit a significant alignment effect in favor of collisions with the HD(+) rotational angular momentum vector perpendicular to the Jacobi R coordinate. This effect is most pronounced for the proton-transfer channel at low vibrational and translational energies.  相似文献

This study investigates the 234 nm photodissociation dynamics of cyclobutyl bromide using a two-dimensional photofragment velocity imaging technique. The spin-orbit ground- and excited-state Br(2P) atoms are state-selectively detected via [2+1] resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI), whereas the cyclobutyl radicals are ionized using 157 nm laser light. The Br(2P(3/2)) and the Br(2P(1/2)) atoms and their c-C4H7 radical cofragments evidence a single-peaked, Gaussian-shaped translational energy distribution ranging from approximately 14 to approximately 39 kcal/mol and angular distributions with significant parallel character. The Br(2P(1/2))/ Br(2P(3/2)) spin-orbit branching ratio is determined to be 0.11 +/- 0.07 by momentum match between the Br(2P) photofragments and the recoiling c-C4H7 fragments, assuming a uniform photoionization probability of the c-C4H7 radicals with an internal energy range of 10-35 kcal/mol. The REMPI line strength ratio for the detection of Br(2P(3/2)) and Br(2P(1/2)) atoms at 233.681 and 234.021 nm, respectively, is therefore derived to be 0.10 +/- 0.07. The measured recoil kinetic energies of the c-C4H7 radicals, and the resulting distribution of internal energies, indicates some of the radicals are formed with total internal energies above the barrier to isomerization and subsequent dissociation, but our analysis indicates they may be stable due to the substantial fraction of the internal energy which is partitioned to rotational energy of the radicals.  相似文献

We have performed large-scale close coupling calculations of rotational-to-rotational energy transfer in HF? HF collisions for the realistic potential energy surface of Brobjer and Murrell. We employ up to 525 angular terms in the expansion of the potential and up to 440 coupled channels in the rotational-orbital basis set. The results for zero total angular momentum are well converged for relative translational energies up to over 0.6 eV, and they show extensive rotational excitation.  相似文献

We present in this paper a time-dependent quantum wave packet calculation of the initial state selected reaction probability for H + CI2 based on the GHNS potential energy surface with total angular momentum J= 0. The effects of the translational, vibrational and rotational excitation of CI2 on the reaction probability have been investigated. In a broad region of the translational energy, the rotational excitation enhances the reaction probability while the vibrational excitation depresses the reaction probability. The theoretical results agree well with the fact that it is an early down-hill reaction.  相似文献

The effect of the potential energy surface on the K + HF → KF + H cross section has been studied using reasonable Sorbie-Murrell (bent saddle point) and LEPS (collinear saddle point) potential energy surfaces (PESs). Trajectory calculations for selected initial conditions (translational energies, rovibrational levels (v, J) of HF, as well as initial parallel or perpendicular alignments between the HF rotational angular momentum and the reactants relative velocity vectors) have been performed on these PESs to compare them with experiments. The Sorbie-Murrell and LEPS-4 PESs lead to steric effect ratio results quite close to the experimental ones, once the error margins are included. The resllts point towards a bent K-F-H saddle point although the PES is very isotropic. This could explain why experimental determinations lead to suggest a collinear saddle point. The K + HF → KF + H reaction exhibits an enormous vibrational enhancement of reactivity with one quantum HF vibrational excitation, even at translational energies well above the HF(v=0) threshold, where tunnelling effect contribution to reactivity can be neglected. This behaviour has not been reproduced in the trajectory calculations and no satisfactory explanation has been obtained for this fact. Nevertheless, the HF(v=1)/HF(v=0) cross section ratio at translational energies not far from the HF(v=0) threshold and the relative cross section for HF(v=0) have been satisfactorily descibed. In what regards rotation, the best theoretical results are those corresponding to the Sorbie-Murrell PES (the cross section increases with J), although important differences with experiment appear for the J = 0–3 interval at the lower translational energy values considered (0.54 and 0.77 eV).  相似文献

The dynamics of O(3P) + CO collisions at a hyperthermal collision energy near 80 kcal mol-1 have been studied with a crossed molecular beams experiment and with quasi-classical trajectory calculations on computed potential energy surfaces. In the experiment, a rotatable mass spectrometer detector was used to monitor inelastically and reactively scattered products as a function of velocity and scattering angle. From these data, center-of-mass (c.m.) translational energy and angular distributions were derived for the inelastic and reactive channels. Isotopically labeled C18O was used to distinguish the reactive channel (16O + C18O 16OC + 18O) from the inelastic channel (16O + C18O 16O + C18O). The reactive 16OC molecules scattered predominantly in the forward direction, i.e., in the same direction as the velocity vector of the reagent O atoms in the c.m. frame. The c.m. translational energy distribution of the reactively scattered 16OC and 18O was very broad, indicating that 16OC is formed with a wide range of internal energies, with an average internal excitation of approximately 40% of the available energy. The c.m. translational energy distribution of the inelastically scattered C18O and 16O products indicated that an average of 15% of the collision energy went into internal excitation of C18O, although a small fraction of the collisions transferred nearly all the collision energy into internal excitation of C18O. The theoretical calculations, which extend previously published results on this system, predict c.m. translational energy and angular distributions that are in near quantitative agreement with the experimentally derived distributions. The theoretical calculations, thus validated by the experimental results, have been used to derive internal state distributions of scattered CO products and to probe in detail the interactions that lead to the observed dynamical behavior.  相似文献

The near-UV photodissociation of NO2 has been investigated at excess energies from −600 up to 1700 cm−1 above the NO X ν = 1 + O3P dissociation limit. A complete analysis of the NO X ν = 1 fragment, including internal and translational energy as well as the angular properties of its vectorial parameters, has been carried out using REMPI combined with TOF mass spectrometry. The high-precision state-selective measurements of the NO fragment velocity have been used to evaluate the internal energy of the O atoms formed in coincidence. Concerning the internal energy of the NO X ν = 1 fragment, two types of final state distributions of the fragments have been found; the difference depending upon the excess energy with respect to the NO X ν = 1 + O3P dissociation limit. Above the threshold, statistical rotational behaviour with nonvanishing anisotropies has been observed. Below the threshold, an efficient R→V transfer, allowed by a significant molecular distortion, was detected. The influence of the parent rotation on the NO fragment rotational distribution is discussed.  相似文献

The translational energy release distribution for dissociation of benzene-Ar has been measured and, in combination with the 6(1)(0) rotational contour of the benzene product observed in emission, used to determine the rotational J,K distribution of 0(0) benzene products formed during dissociation from 6(1). Significant angular momentum is transferred to benzene on dissociation. The 0(0) rotational distribution peaks at J=31 and is skewed to low K:Javerage=27, (K)average=10.3. The average angle between the total angular momentum vector and the unique rotational axis is determined to be 68 degrees. This indicates that benzene is formed tumbling about in-plane axes rather than in a frisbeelike motion, consistent with Ar "pushing off" benzene from an off-center position above or below the plane. The J distribution is very well reproduced by angular momentum model calculations based on an equivalent rotor approach [A. J. McCaffery, M. A. Osborne, R. J. Marsh, W. D. Lawrance, and E. R. Waclawik, J. Chem. Phys. 121, 1694 (2004)], indicating that angular momentum constraints control the partitioning of energy between translation and rotation. Calculations for p-difluorobenzene-Ar suggest that the equivalent rotor model can provide a reasonable prediction of both J and K distributions in prolate (or near prolate) tops when dissociation leads to excitation about the unique, in-plane axis. Calculations for s-tetrazine-Ar require a small maximum impact parameter to reproduce the comparatively low J values seen for the s-tetrazine product. The three sets of calculations show that the maximum impact parameter is not necessarily equal to the bond length of the equivalent rotor and must be treated as a variable parameter. The success of the equivalent rotor calculations argues that angular momentum constraints control the partitioning between rotation and translation of the products.  相似文献

The reaction of oxygen atom in its first singlet excited state with nitrous oxide was investigated under the crossed molecular beam condition. This reaction has two major product channels, NO+NO and N2+O2. The product translational energy distributions and angular distributions of both channels were determined. Using oxygen-18 isotope labeled O(1D) reactant, the newly formed NO can be distinguished from the remaining NO that was contained in the reactant N2O. Both channels have asymmetric and forward-biased angular distributions, suggesting that there is no long-lived collision complex with lifetime longer than its rotational period. The translational energy release of the N2+O2 channel (fT = 0.57) is much higher than that of the NO+NO channel (fT = 0.31). The product energy partitioning into translational, rotational, and vibrational degrees of freedom is discussed to learn more about the reaction mechanism. The branching ratio between the two product channels was estimated. The 46N2O product of the isotope exchange channel, 18O+44N2O-->16O+46N2O, was below the detection limit and therefore, the upper limit of its yield was estimated to be 0.8%.  相似文献

In this paper we present integral cross sections (in the 5-220 meV collision energy range) and rate constants (in the 100-300 K range of temperature) for the F+HD reaction leading to HF+D and DF+H. The exact quantum reactive scattering calculations were carried out using the hyperquantization algorithm on an improved potential energy surface which incorporates the effects of open shell and fine structure of the fluorine atom in the entrance channel. The results reproduce satisfactorily molecular beam scattering experiments as well as chemical kinetics data for both the HF and DF channels. In particular, the agreement of the rate coefficients and the vibrational branching ratios with experimental measurements is improved with respect to previous studies. At thermal and subthermal energies, the rates are greatly influenced by tunneling through the reaction barrier. Therefore exchange of deuterium is shown to be penalized with respect to exchange of hydrogen, and the isotopic branching exhibits a strong dependence on translational energy. Also, it is found that rotational excitation of the reactant HD molecule enhances the production of HF and decreases the reactivity at the D end, obtaining insight on the reaction stereodynamics.  相似文献

The rotational state distribution of RbBr reactively scattered from Rb + HBr has been measured with an electric quadrupole state selector. The focussing curves are found to fit maxwellian forms with Trot = 750 ± 100 K. By taking into account the velocity smearing of the beams the results are shown to be consistent with a model in which the orbital angular momentum of the reactants is converted entirely into rotational angular momentum of the RbBr reaction product. On the basis of this analysis it is possible to extract the absolute reactive cross section, 28 ± 4 Å2 which is slightly smaller than a previous measurement for the reaction of K with HBr.  相似文献

The internal energy distributions of product CaBr in the collision reactions Ca+C2H5Br and Ca+nC3H7Br are studied by using the quasiclassical trajectory method. The average vibrational, rotational and translational energies and total available energies of the product CaBr molecules are calculated. The results indicate that when the collision energy is equal to 7.54 kJ/mol the energy of product CaBr is mainly the vibrational energy. As the reactant collision energy increases, the average translational and rotational energies of the product CaBr increase, the average vibrational energy decreases slightly, and the most probable vibrational state shifts to lower vibrational energy levels. The internal states of reagents have little influence on the internal energy distribution of the product. The bigger the radical group is, the higher ratio of the vibrational energy to the available energy of the product is. There exist two competitive reaction paths for the collision reactions Ca+C2H5Br and Ca+nC3H7Br, the migratory encounter and direct reaction paths. The former produces high vibrational excited state product CaBr and the latter causes C-Br bond to break. When the collision energy increases, the reactions tend to the latter path.  相似文献

A detailed three-dimensional time-dependent quantum dynamical study of the He+H(2) (+)(v=0-3,j=0)-->HeH(+)+H reaction is reported for different vibrational v states of H(2) (+) in its ground rotational (j=0) state over a range of translational E(trans) energies on an accurate ab initio potential energy surface published by Palmieri et al. Plots of reaction probability as a function of total energy E reveal a large number of oscillations indicating the presence of a number of reactive scattering resonances. When averaged over total angular momentum J, some of the oscillations survive, indicating that they may be amenable to experimental observation. A comparison of our present results with our earlier results on the McLaughlin-Thompson-Joseph-Sathyamurthy surface and the experimental results from different research groups reveal a good deal of agreement as well as some discrepancies between theory and experiment at the level of state-selected gas phase dynamics.  相似文献

Quasiclassical trajectory calculations have been carried out for the F+HCl reaction in three dimensions on a recent DHSN PES of the ground 1(2)A' electronic state [M. P. Deskevich, M. Y. Hayes, K. Takahashi, R. T. Skodje, and D. J. Nesbitt, J. Chem. Phys. 124, 224303 (2006)]. The effects of the collision energy and the reagent initial rotational excitation on the cross sections and product polarization are studied for the v = 0 and j ≤ 10 states of HCl over a wide collision energy range. It has been found that either the collision energy or the HCl rotational excitation increase remarkably reaction cross sections. The QCT-calculated integral cross sections are in good agreement with previous QM results. A detailed study on product polarization for the title reaction is also performed. The calculated results show that the product rotational angular momentum j' is not only aligned, but also oriented along the direction perpendicular to the scattering plane. The orientation of the HF product rotational angular momentum vector j' depends very sensitively on the collision energy and also affected by the reagent rotation. The theoretical findings and especially the roles of the collision energy and initial rotational momentum on the product polarization are discussed and reasonably explained by the HLH mass combination, the property of the PES, as well as the reactive mechanism.  相似文献

Experimental studies with molecular beam and LIF techniques have independently shown that the reaction O(1D) + H2 → OH + H passes through a long-lived complex and gives products with small translational and large rotational excitation. We have previously published a statistical algorithm, based on ordinary RRKM theory with angular momentum restrictions included, which was designed to simulate molecular beam experiments. It has now been modified and applied to simulate the experimental rotational OH distributions from O(1D)+H2, measured by Luntz et al. The present study also includes simulation of similar results by Luntz for O(1D) + HCI → OH + Cl. The purely statistical algorithm successfully simulates the apparently non-statistical experimental rotational distributions. For these reactions the total angular momentum conservation. which is applied at the transition state, proves to be decisive for the product energy distributions.  相似文献
