Application of coulometric titration to the determination of the protonation constants of acids and bases offers several advantages because of its simplicity, precision and accuracy. This procedure is rapid and requires only one calibration solution of strong acid in the same solvent and at the same ionic strength as the solution of acid (or base) being investigated. The procedure seems to be especially advantageous in the case of non-aqueous or mixed solvents having amphiprotic character. The validity of the method has been checked with several substances in water, 95% ethanol and ethylene glycol.  相似文献

Monosegmented flow analysis (MSFA) has been used as a flow-batch system to produce a simple, robust, and mechanized titrator that enables true titrations to be performed without the use of standards. This paper also introduces the use of coulometry with monosegmented titration by proposing a versatile flow cell. Coulometric generation of the titrand is attractive for titrations performed in monosegmented systems, because the reagent can be added without increasing the volume of sample injected. Also, biamperomeric and potentiometric detection of titration end-points can increase the versatility of the monosegmented titrator. The cell integrates coulometric generation of the titrand with detection of end-point by potentiometry or biamperometry. The resulting titrator is a flow-batch system in which the liquid monosegment, constrained by the interfaces of the gaseous carrier stream, plays the role of a sample of known volume to be titrated. The system has been used for determination of ascorbic acid, by coulometric generation of I2 with biamperometric detection, and for determination of Fe(II), by coulometric generation of Ce(IV) with potentiometric detection of the end-point, both in feed supplements.  相似文献

A coulometric-potentiometric method for the determination of autoprotolysis constants of acetone and methyl ethyl ketone, is described. The method is based on the titration of a strong base, i.e., tetrabutylammonium hydroxide with protons obtained by anodic oxidation of hydrogen at an H(2)/pd electrode in the presence of tetrabutylammonium perchlorate as the supporting electrolyte. The titration was carried out in a galvanic cell with glass and calomel electrodes, at 25 degrees . The pK(s) value obtained for acetone and methyl ethyl ketone were 25.82 +/- 0.05 and 26.92 +/- 0.07, respectively.  相似文献

Catalytic thermometric titrations have been developed for bases (brucine, diethylaniline, potassium acetate and triethylamine) in acetic acid by continuous and discontinuous addition of the standard solution and automatic temperature recording. The determination of weak bases, e.g., antipyrine, unsuccessful in acetic acid by catalytic thermometric titration, has been achieved by using nitromethane or acetic anhydride as solvent. Catalytic thermometric titrations were also performed by coulometric generation of hydrogen ions for the determination of micro amounts of weak bases in a mixture of acetic anhyride and acetic acid.  相似文献

The accuracy and uncertainty of coulometric titration of Japanese certified reference materials (CRMs) for oxidation-reduction titration were examined in this study. The results for potassium dichromate, sodium oxalate, and potassium iodate are presented. Potassium dichromate was directly determined by coulometric titration, and sodium oxalate and potassium iodate were determined by volumetric analysis using potassium dichromate assigned by coulometry.The uncertainty of the method was investigated by examining the dependency on the sample size and on the electrolysis current. Changes in the titration parameters did not result in any significant effects on the titration results. The coulometric system used primarily consists of a constant current source, timer, switching circuit, indicator unit, and voltmeter. They were controlled using the coulometry software by a PC/AT compatible computer. A highly automated coulometric system achieves repeatabilities of less than one part in 30,000 (k = 2) and uncertainties of less than one part in 15,000 (k = 2). In addition, using volumetric method, SI units traceable sodium oxalate and potassium iodate (purity standards for redox reaction) CRMs were developed.Reference materials for volumetric analysis are the most basic substances used in analytical chemistry. These materials are analyzed by several analytical methods and are produced globally; however, their purities have not been compared at the international level. Therefore, the relationship between the purity and reliability of these materials has not yet been established. In this paper, we determine the relationship between these parameters by titrating each material obtained from different laboratories.  相似文献

A nitrate ion-selective electrode (ISE) employing a permeable tubular membrane impregnated with a conventional ISE cocktail has been used successfully in the coulometric analysis of nitrate in fresh waters. The liquid ISE membrane comprising a nitrate ionophore [tridodecylmethylammonium nitrate (TDMAN)], lipophilic electrolyte [tetradodecyl-ammoniumtetrakis(4-chlorophenyl)borate (ETH 500)] and plasticizer [bis(3-ethyl-hexyl)sebacate (DOS)] was supported on a porous polypropylene tube. Coulometric analysis with the tubular membrane ISE showed that nitrate could be detected in the range 10–100 μM with a precision of 2.3% relative standard deviation (RSD), limit of detection of 1.1 μM and relative accuracy of 4.4% compared to a certified reference material (CRM) Lake sample.  相似文献

Electroreduction of 4-amino-6-methyl-3-thio-1,2,4-triazine-5-one (I), 6-methyl-3-thio-1,2,4-triazine-5-one (II), and 2,4-dimethoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazine (III) in dimethylformamide was investigated. Electrochemical techniques including differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry, and coulometry were employed to study the mechanism of the electrode process. From the analysis of the voltammetric and spectroscopic experiments a mechanism was proposed for the electroreduction of thio-triazine and triazine compounds. Compounds I and II having thiol groups exhibited similar redox behavior. Both compounds displayed two cathodic peaks, whereas the third compound (III), with no thiol group, showed only one cathodic peak in the same potential range as the second peak of compounds I and II.The results of this study show that in the former wave, the one electron reduction of thiol led to a dimer (disulfide) species and in the latter, the triazine ring was reduced in a two-electron process. The effects of various physical and electrochemical parameters were studied and the electrochemical behavior of the monomers was reported as a function of these parameters. A completely irreversible behavior was observed from cyclic voltammograms obtained under different conditions. Furthermore, in this study some numerical constants, such as diffusion constant, transfer coefficient, and rate constant of coupled chemical reaction were determined.  相似文献

The characteristics, performance, and application of an electrode, namely Pt|Hg|Hg2(DCF)2|graphite, where DCF stands for diclofenac ion, are described. This electrode responds to diclofenac with sensitivity of (58.1 ± 0.8) mV/decade over the range 5.0 × 10−5 to 1.0 × 10−2 mol l−1 at pH 6.5-9.0 and a detection limit of 3.2 × 10−5 mol l−1. The electrode is easily constructed at a relatively low cost with fast response time (within 10-30 s) and can be used for a period of 5 months without any considerable divergence in potentials. The proposed sensor displayed good selectivity for diclofenac in the presence of several substances, especially concerning carboxylate and inorganic anions. It was used to determine diclofenac in pharmaceutical preparations by means of the standard additions method. The analytical results obtained by using this electrode are in good agreement with those given by the United States Pharmacopeia procedures.  相似文献

A flow–batch system was constructed and evaluated to perform coulometric titrations with biamperometric end point detection. The flow section of the system is employed for sampling by injecting a sample volume (50–300 μL) in a flow injection-like system. About 1.5 mL of a suitable carrier solution is delivered by a peristaltic pump in order to quantitatively transfer the sample to the system titration cell (2.0 mL total inner volume). The carrier contains the coulometric precursor for the titrant species. The cell contains two pairs of platinum electrodes used for coulometric generation of reagent and biamperometric detection and is actively stirred. The titrant species is generated and the titration is performed by the usual batch procedure with the excess of titrant being detected by biamperometry following the analysis of the titration curve. System operation is computer controlled and all operations are automated, including titration curve analysis and cell cleaning after the titration is ended. The system is characterized by its robustness because its operation does not depend on flow rates, and the work using coulometric methods which generate gases at the counter-electrode is not troublesome. The flow–batch system has been evaluated for determination of bromine index and bromine number (relative to the total reactive olefin content) in petrochemicals according to an ASTM procedure. Typical precision (R.S.D.) is between 0.5 and 6% for different petrochemicals whose bromine number/index vary from 1000 to 10 mg of bromine per 100 g of sample, respectively. Recoveries for standard additions are between 92 and 123% for 10 mg of Br2 per 100 g increments and 98 to 101% for 100 mg per 100 g increments. Accuracy of the proposed system was evaluated against results obtained by the standard ASTM with no significant difference detected at 95% confidence level.  相似文献

Summary Catalytic dechlorination of p-chloroanisole (p-chloromethoxybenzene) was carried out in a solution of NaOH in 2-propanol in the presence of Pd/Al2O3 or Pd/C at 40°C. When aromatic hydrocarbons such as toluene or benzene were added to the solution, the dechlorination rates were strongly suppressed. However, aliphatic hydrocarbons such as n-hexane or cyclohexane hardly affected the dechlorination rates.  相似文献

Chromium(VI) is determined through its direct electrochemical reduction in the bulk of a porous glassy carbon electrode. An electrode filled with the acidified sample and Cr(VI) is reduced by means of a constant current whereas the potential of the electrode is monitored. The limits of detection and quantification were found to be 1.9 and 6.0 μg · L−1, resp. The linear range, repeatability and reproducibility were found to be 5–500 μg · L−1, 1.2, and 1.8%, resp. The influence of Fe(III), Ca(II), Mg(II), sulphates, nitrates, humic acids and surfactants was investigated. Total chromium was measured after chemical oxidation of Cr(III) to chromate by permanganate. The method was applied to analyses of water samples.  相似文献

A novel PVC membrane sensor for bisacodyl based on bisacodyl‐phosphotungstate ion pair complex was prepared. The influence of membrane composition (i.e. percent of PVC, plasticizer, and ion‐pair complex), pH of test solution and foreign cations on the electrode performance were investigated. The optimized membrane demonstrates Nernstian response (60.3 ± 2.1 mV per decade) for bisacodyl cations over a wide linear range from 8.0 × 10?5 to 5.0 × 10?3 M at 25 °C. The potentiometric response is independent from the pH of the solution in the pH range of 1.5–3.5. The proposed sensor has the advantages of easy preparation, good selectivity, fast response time, and small interferences from hydrogen ions. It was successfully used for determination of bisacodyl in tablets, and the results obtained with the electrode were in good agreement with the official chromatographic method.  相似文献

Summary In 1975, Pungor et al. established a new method called Triangle Programmed Coulometric Titration, which allows to titrate flowing sample solutions. The following paper presents a new analytical procedure for the determination of sulphur dioxide based on this technique. To obtain this, sulphur dioxide was transferred across a semipermeable membrane from a gaseous phase into an aqueous acceptor phase. Then the SO2-concentration of the streaming aqueous phase was analysed bromometrically using the Triangle Programmed Coulometric Titration principle. The titration curves were followed continuously by an AC-bivoltammetric flow-through detector. Using this procedure a determination of SO2 concentrations between 400 and 2500 mg/m3 was possible.  相似文献

The protonation constants of ten Schiff's bases synthesized by the condensation of 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde with aniline and o-, m-, and p-substituted methylanilines, ethylanilines and methoxyanilines in various dioxan-water mixtures have been determined potentiometrically using an electrode system calibrated in concentration units of the hydrogen ion. The influence of substituents in the molecular structure on the protonation constants is discussed. The log K2 values relating to the protonation of imine nitrogen atoms are in accordance with the Hammett relationship for all solvent compositions. A reverse relationship is observed between log K2 for all Schiff's bases and the mole fraction of dioxan. However, the log K1 values corresponding to the protonation of naphtholate O-ions have been found to increase with the increase in concentration of dioxan. Both electrostatic and non-electrostatic contributions influencing these constants are briefly discussed.  相似文献

The phenolic-group capacities of five humic substances, such as, the Aldrich humic acid, the humic and fulvic acids extracted from a soil, the humic and fulvic acids extracted from a peat have been precisely determined by the non-aqueous potentiometric titration technique. The titration by KOH in the mixed solvent of DMSO:2-propanol:water = 80:19.3:0.7 at [K+] = 0.02 M enabled to measure the potential change in a wide range of pOH (=−log [OH]), and thus to determine the capacities of phenolic groups which could not be precisely determined in the aqueous titration. The results of the titration revealed that the mean protonation constants of the phenolic groups were nearly the same for all humic substances and close to that of phenol in the same medium, indicating that each phenolic-group in the humic substances is rather isolated and is not electronically affected by other affecting groups in the humic macromolecule.  相似文献

The use of polyanion and polycation-sensitive membrane electrodes to detect five different preparations of fucoidan is described. Unlike linear polyanionic molecules previously measured with polymer membrane-based electrochemical sensors, fucoidans from marine brown algae are all highly branched, sulfated polysaccharides with varying charge densities and structures, depending on the species of seaweed, method of extraction used and extent of purification. When tridodecylmethylammonium (TDMA) was used as the ion-exchanger, a large, non-equilibrium EMF response was observed over a concentration range of 0.5–50 μg mL−1 fucoidan. Fucoidan was also measured by titration with polycationic protamine, using a dinonylnaphthalene sulfonate (DNNS)-doped membrane electrode as the potentiometric endpoint detector. Potentiometric titration was used to determine the binding ratio between protamine and fucoidan at the neutralization endpoint for each fucoidan preparation. This binding ratio was then used to successfully determine the fucoidan content of commercially available nutritional supplements. Fucoidan was also measured in undiluted blood serum, demonstrating that this method may be applicable for measuring fucoidan for clinical applications.  相似文献

A highly selective and sensitive membrane electrode based on vanadyl salen complex (VS), which responds to monohydrogenphosphate (MHP) ions is described. The response of the sensor is Nernstian over the wide concentration range (1.0×10?1 ? 5.0×10?6 M) of MHP. The sensitivity of the electrode is high enough to permit the detection of as little as 0.6 μg/mL of MHP without any significant interference from high levels of other anions. The potentiometric selectivity coefficient data revealed negligible interference from 11 common anions. The electrode has a fast response time (<25 s), good slope stability at pH 8.2 for a period of at least eight weeks. It was successfully applied for the direct determination of monohydrogenphosphate in fertilizer and, as indicator electrode, in potentiometric titration of HPO42? ion with barium chloride.  相似文献
