A first-order Lagrangian is given, from which follow the definitions of the fully covariant form of the Riemann tensorR k in terms of the affine connection and metric; the definition of the affine connection in terms of the metric; the Einstein field equations; and the definition of a set of gravitational superpotentials closely connected with the Komar conservation laws [7]. Substitution of the definition of the affine connection into this Lagrangian results in a second-order Lagrangian, from which follow the definition of the fully covariant Riemann tensor in terms of the metric, the Einstein equations, and the definition of the gravitational superpotentials.Dedicated to Achille Papapetrou on the occasion of his retirement.  相似文献

We investigate the Finkelstein-Misner geons for a non-simply-connected space-time manifold (M, g 0). We use relations between different Lorentzian structures unequivalent tog 0 and topological properties ofM given by the Morse theory. It implies that to some pieces of geons we have to associate Wheeler's worm-holes. Geons that correspond to time-orientable Lorentz structures are related tog 0 by Morse functions that describe the attaching of a handle of index one. In the case of geons associated to time-nonorientable Lorentzian structures, appropriate handles are related to loops along which the notion of time reverses. If we assume electromagnetic properties of geons, then only four species, v, e, p, m, of different geons can exist and geon m has to decay according to mv+p+e.  相似文献

Scalar scattering of light on the 3p and 3s subshells of the argon atom (Stokes scattering) and anti-Stokes scattering on the excited 4p and 4s states of argon are examined in the Hartree-Fock approximation. The calculation is made in a velocity form and in a length form. The brightness waves of ZnS-Cu, Mn phosphor were investigated and it was found that their shape changes from that characteristic for copper-activated phosphors to that characteristic for manganese-activated phosphors as a function of the magnitude of the voltage applied, the length of the pulses and the temperature. In order to explain the results it is assumed that simultaneously with the mechanism of electroluminescence, accepted for ZnS-Cu (ionization of activators; recombination and radiation delayed in phase compared with voltage), there exists an immediate recombination of the Cu activators in the barriers, which is accompanied by radiation in phase with the voltage.

On the theory of gravitational radiation
The equations of motion of weakly radiating particles are investigated in a linear approximation in which the pseudo-Euclidian metric remains valid but energy changes caused by gravitational radiation are considered. The classical relativistic equations of motion with variable rest mass are applied. An elementary theory of the gravitational radiation of a rotator is formulated. The results are applied for particles in circular accelerators. It is found that a rotator with non-zero rest mass cannot exist for an unlimited period and that it cannot exceed the velocity of light. This explains why particles with non-zero rest mass cannot attain the velocity of light in circular accelerators; it is also shown that the gravitational radiation of particles in circular accelerators does not exist in practice.

The major reasons for the low photovoltaic efficiency of Cu2S/CdS cells, in which the CdS film is deposited by spraying, are due to small film thicknesses which do not exceed 4 m and the small average grain size which ranges from 0.1 to 0.5 m.A new experimental solution spraying procedure is described that prevents both restrictions by controlling the substrate temperature. The method of local ferromagnetic resonance and direct torsional measurements were used to measure the dependence of the magnetic anisotropy in permalloy films on the angle of incidence in a broad range of such angles. It was found that this dependence is not monotonous and that at larger angles of incidence the easy axis of magnetization is rotated. An interpretation of this phenomenon is proposed.

It is shown for a one-dimensional approximation that, around a disturbance in the ion concentrationn +(x, t) in the axial direction of a cylindrical plasma, a corresponding electron distributionn (x, t) is established with such a large velocity that under the usual conditions of a discharge plasma this electron distribution follows the relatively slow changes in ion concentration practically without delay. Relation (24) then holds for the electron concentration, the parametersl 1,l D being given by Eqs. (15) and (16). As long as the disturbance of the ions isn +(x) 0, a space chargeq 0(n +-n) is produced and maintained in the plasma even if the disturbance of the equilibrium state of the plasma in the initial stage was electrically neutral (i.e.n +(x, t=0)==n (x,t=0)). The dimensions of these space charges can be many orders larger than the Debye characteristic lengthl D ; this is shown on an example of a spatially periodic curven +(x). The unique (quasi-stationary) expression of the electron concentrationn by means of the deflection of the ion concentrationn +(x, t) permits a considerable simplification of the solution of the problems connected with axially disturbing the homogeneous state of a plasma, sincen (x, t) can be eliminated from the equations of continuity of the plasma by substituting from (24), and the problem becomes that of determining the curve of the ion concentrationn + from the equations modified in this way.

It was pointed out in paper [1] that special cases of this solution are the problems of the torsion of a notched and unnotched rectangularly-shaped bar. Here, some results obtained earlier are generalized and in one concrete case very good agreement is obtained with the results of Sapondjan [2].

We have found that gamma-irradiated polyformaldehyde does not exhibit the effect of the disappearance of the hyperfine structure of EPR spectrum as a function of the dose or the time passed since the end of irradiation, as was found earlier for a group of polymers having only C-C-C-C-atoms in the polymer chain. This difference in the change in the EPR of the polyformaldehyde (PFA) spectrum compared with the polymers with a -C-C-C-C- chain is explained by the impossibility of forming a conjugate double bond in the -C-O-C-O- chain in PFA.

The basic equations of the dynamics of the continuous distribution of dislocations analogical to Maxwell equations are derived in a series of papers [I, II, III]. The analogy of the elastic and electromagnetic fields is analyzed. In part [III] some special problems are discussed, such as the density of the forces acting on the dislocations, the energy dissipation during the movement of dislocations, which is expressed by an equation analogical to Ohm's law. The equations derived in the previous parts in four-dimensional symbolics are considered in the three-dimensional differential and integral form. It is found that in special cases the relations become the known ones of elastodynamics, hydrodynamics and the static theory of the continuous distribution of dislocations. It is found that Kröner's method of integrating the equations of the dislocation field by means of so-called incompatibility tensors is analogical to the integration of the Maxwell equations by means of Hertz vectors. The analogy between the elastic dislocation field and the electromagnetic field is discussed in detail.

The magnetic moments of the proton drip-line nuclei13O(I = 3/2,T 1/2 = 8.6 ms) and 9C(I = 3/2,T 1/2 = 126 ms) have been determined for the first time through the combined techniques of polarized radioactive nuclear beams and-NMR detection. The observed magnetic moments are ¦(13O)¦ = 1.3891 ±0.0003 N and ¦(9C)¦ = 1.3914 ±0.0005 N. Spin expectation values are deduced to be 0.76 and 1.44 for13O and9C, respectively. While the of13O is consistent with the systematics from isospinT= 1/2 mirror pairs, the of9C is unusually large, even far larger than the single particle value, = 1.  相似文献

A quasi-linear regression formula is derived by an expansion around quasi-static equilibrium. It relates the relaxation of thermodynamic forces to the regression of correlations of thermodynamic coordinates in quasi-static equilibrium. Correlation functions and memory kernels can be introduced in almost complete analogy to linear response theory. A non-linear, non-Markovian kinetic equation is derived. The kinetic coefficients are given in terms of correlation functions of stochastic forces in quasi-static equilibrium similar to the linear theory.  相似文献
