The paper discusses the physics of magnetization reversal in granular magnetic films. It gives an overview of the key physical properties that determine the collective and macroscopically observable magnetization reversal behavior. In particular, the multitude of observable hysteresis loops is reduced to three key physical quantities, namely the single grain switching field distribution D(hs), the inter-granular exchange coupling constant Jex, and the magnetostatic interaction constant Jms. By varying the relative influence of these quantities, many different shapes of hysteresis loops can occur, which is documented by experimental examples. The regime of partially and strongly correlated reversal is discussed in detail, and minor loop measurements are presented that show scaling behavior for strongly correlated magnetization reversal in the vicinity of hysteresis loop criticality.  相似文献

MnF(2)/Fe bilayers exhibit asymmetric magnetization reversal that occurs by coherent rotation on one side of the loop and by nucleation and propagation of domain walls on the other side of the loop. Here, we show by polarized neutron reflectometry, magnetization, and magnetotransport measurements that for samples with good crystalline "quality" the rotation is a two-stage process, due to coherent rotation to a stable state perpendicular to the cooling field direction. The result is remarkably asymmetrically shaped hysteresis loops.  相似文献

We study magnetic hysteresis loops after field cooling of a CoO/Co bilayer by MOKE and polarized neutron reflectivity. The neutron scattering reveals that the first magnetization reversal after field cooling is dominated by domain wall movement, whereas all subsequent reversals proceed essentially by rotation of the magnetization. In addition, off-specular diffuse scattering indicates that the first magnetization reversal induces an irreversible change of the domain state in the antiferromagnet.  相似文献

In the present work we use computational analysis based on the interacting hysteron model to address the question in how far intrinsic microscopic materials information can be retrieved from magnetic hysteresis loop data. Specifically, the goal is to understand whether it is possible to determine the intrinsic switching field distribution if exchange and magneto-static interactions of variable strength are simultaneously present in the material. We find that due to an existing degeneracy of hysteresis data sets, it is generally not possible to separately determine contributions from exchange and magneto-static interactions, even if the magnetization reversal is only partially correlated. However, the intrinsic switching field distribution could always be accurately determined, as long as the system remains in the uncorrelated or partially correlated magnetization reversal regime.  相似文献

We observe the negative shift of the magnetic hysteresis loop at 5 K, while the sample is cooled in external magnetic field in case of 30% of Fe substitution in LaMnO3. The negative shift and training effect of the hysteresis loops indicate the phenomenon of exchange bias. The cooling field dependence of the negative shift increases with the cooling field below 7.0 kOe and then, decreases with further increase of cooling field. The temperature dependence of the negative shift of the hysteresis loops exhibits that the negative shift decreases sharply with increasing temperature and vanishes above 20 K. Temperature dependence of dc magnetization and ac susceptibility measurements show a sharp peak (Tp) at 51 K and a shoulder (Tf) around 20 K. The relaxation of magnetization shows the ferromagnetic and glassy magnetic components in the relaxation process, which is in consistent with the cluster-glass compound.  相似文献

For FeCr/IrMn bilayers, the exchange bias training effect and the magnetization reversal mechanism are correlated to each other and depend on the composition of the ferromagnetic layer. For high Fe contents, the asymmetric magnetization reversal is observed. During the training effect, both exchange field and coercivity decrease monotonically, suggesting a type I training effect. For low Fe contents, the domain wall depinning takes place for the two hysteresis loop branches. Only exchange field diminution happens in the training effect. The coercivity almost does not change in the process, corresponding to a type II training effect. It is suggested that the motion of antiferromagnetic spins is modified by the magnetization reversal mechanism in the ferromagnetic layer.  相似文献

Polarized neutron reflectometry is used to probe the in-plane projection of the net-magnetization vector M--> of polycrystalline Fe films exchange coupled to twinned (110) MnF (2) or FeF (2) antiferromagnetic (AF) layers. The magnetization reversal mechanism depends upon the orientation of the cooling field with respect to the twinned microstructure of the AF, and whether the applied field is increased to (or decreased from) a positive saturating field; i.e. , the magnetization reversal is asymmetric. The reversal of the sample magnetization from one saturated state to the other occurs via either domain wall motion or magnetization rotation on opposite sides of the same hysteresis loop.  相似文献

The effects of the magnitude of the uniaxial anisotropy of a ferromagnet and the cooling field on the noncollinearity between uniaxial anisotropy and induced unidirectional anisotropy in a ferromagnet/antiferromagnet bilayer system are investigated. A diagram of noncollinear anisotropies and relative negative (positive) exchange bias field dependence upon cooling field and uniaxial anisotropy of the ferromagnet is obtained. The numerical result shows that the emergence of noncollinear anisotropies originates from the action of the cooling field and uniaxial anisotropy of the ferromagnet. The noncollinearity strongly depends on the magnitude of cooling field and uniaxial anisotropy of the ferromagnet. Moreover, the effect of noncollinear anisotropies and applied field on asymmetric magnetization reversal is also investigated. Amazingly, when the magnetic field is applied collinearly with unidirectional anisotropy, the hysteresis loop of ferromagnet/antiferromagnet bilayers is always symmetric even if there are noncollinear anisotropies. Our results indicate that the asymmetry of the hysteresis loop only originates from the noncollinearity between the induced unidirectional anisotropy and the applied field, rather than from the noncollinearity between the uniaxial and unidirectional anisotropies.  相似文献

In this paper, the magnetization reversal of the ferromagnetic layers in the IrMn/CoFe/AlOx/CoFe magnetic tunnel junction has been investigated using bulk magnetometry. The films exhibit very complex magnetization processes and reversal mechanism. Thermal activation phenomena such as the training effect, the asymmetry of reversal, the loop broadening and the decrease of exchange field while holding the film at negative saturation have been observed on the hysteresis loops of the pinned ferromagnetic layer while not on those of the free ferromagnetic layer. The thermal activation phenomena observed can be explained by the model of two energy barrier distributions with different time constants.  相似文献

A noncollinear configuration of magnetic anisotropy in spin valves with strong and weak interlayer couplings has been formed by annealing and cooling in a magnetic field. The dependence of the low-field magnetoresistance hysteresis loop width on the angle between the applied magnetic field and the principal axes of the magnetic anisotropy in a spin valve has been investigated. It has been found that, only in the case of a strong ferromagnetic interlayer coupling, the formation of a noncollinear configuration of the magnetic anisotropy provides a hysteresis-free character of the magnetization reversal of the free layer with retaining the maximum magnetoresistance and magnetoresistive sensitivity.  相似文献

The magnetization reversal of the bilayer polycrystalline FeNi(50 Å)/FeMn(50 Å) film sputtered in a magnetic field has been studied by magnetic and magneto-optical techniques. The external magnetic fields were applied along the easy or hard magnetization axis of the ferromagnetic permalloy layer. The asymmetry of hysteresis loop has been found. Appreciable asymmetry and the exchange bias were observed only in the field applied along the easy axis. The specific features of magnetization reversal were explained within the phenomenological model that involves high-order exchange anisotropy and misalignment of the easy axes of the antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic layers. It has been shown that the film can exist in one of three equilibrium magnetic states in the field applied along the easy axis. The transitions between these states occur as first-order phase transitions. The observed hysteresis loop asymmetry is related to the existence of the metastable state.  相似文献

We exploit the recoil loop measurements to study La0.07 Sr0.33 Mn O3/La0.33 Ca0.67 Mn O3 bilayer film. the asymmetric magnetization reversal in an exchange-biased It is found that the recoil curve encloses a marked area only in the second quadrant of the hysteresis loop, and the recoil susceptibility in the descending branch of the major loop is evidently higher than that in the ascending branch. The study indicates that the exchange anisotropy of a unidirectional nature and an orientation deviated from the easy axis of the ferromagnetic layer plays a crucial role in creating the reversal asymmetry.  相似文献

The exchange coupling at the interfaces of magnetic superlattices consisting of ferromagnetic SrRuO3 and antiferromagnetic SrMnO3 grown on (001) oriented SrTiO3 is studied with in-plane and out-of-plane orientations of the cooling magnetic field, with respect to the substrate plane. The magnetization of the in-plane, field cooled hysteresis loop is lower than the corresponding in-plane zero-field-cooled hysteresis loop. The out-of-plane field cooled hysteresis loop is shifted, from the origin, along the graphical magnetization axis. We attribute this irreversible rotation of the moment to the pinning/biasing of spin in the SrRuO3 layer in the vicinity of interfaces by the antiferromagnetic SrMnO3 layer.  相似文献

The effect of stress on the magnetization process for Ni-Cu-Zn ferrite was studied by the measurement of the nonsaturated hysteresis loop under external applied stress. A weak field was applied to estimate the effect of stress during the reversal magnetization process. The experimental results show that the nonreversible reversal magnetization process is affected considerably by the compressive stress in the applied field from 0.20 to 0.84 Oe. The compressive stress acts as positive field to impede the nonreversible process which takes place during the reversal magnetization process. The tensile stress had a counter effect but the effect was too small. Stress perpendicular to detecting direction seems to exhibit an effect opposite to that of parallel stress. The sample was toroidal to estimate the differencein the effect of stress between detecting direction and radial direction perpendicular to the detecting direction. The effect of stress in the detecting direction is larger than in the radial direction for the Ni-Cu-Zn ferrite with negative magnetostriction.  相似文献

The effect of noncollinearity between unidirectional and uniaxial anisotropies on asymmetric magnetization reversal of ferromagnet/antiferromagnet (FM/AFM) bilayer has been investigated. The results show the emergence of noncollinear anisotropies comes from the competition among applied magnetic field, magnetic anisotropy and exchange coupling in FM/AFM interface. The noncollinearity can lead to the asymmetry of hysteresis loop of FM/AFM bilayer. However, when the magnetic field is applied along the uniaxial anisotropy axis of FM layer, the hysteresis loop of FM/AFM bilayer is always symmetry independence of the noncollinear angle. Our results indicate that the asymmetry not only originates from the noncollinearity but also depends on the applied magnetic field orientation. Moreover, the asymmetry of hysteresis loop is always along with the appearance of unequivalence for magnetization reversal of FM/AFM bilayer, and there is a periodicity of π with orientation of applied field for its periodicity independence of the angle of the noncollinearity between the uniaxial and unidirectional anisotropies. The results can help us to open additional avenues to tailor the future advance magnetic device.  相似文献

The magnetization reversal process of Fe/MgO(001) thin film is investigated by combining transverse and longitudinal hysteresis loops. Owing to the competition between domain wall pinning energy and weak uniaxial magnetic anisotropy, the typical magnetization reversal process of Fe ultrathin film can take place via either an "l-jump" process near the easy axis, or a "2-jump" process near the hard axis, depending on the applied field orientation. Besides, the hysteresis loop presents strong asymmetry resulting from the variation of the detected light intensity due to the quadratic magneto-optic effect. Furthermore, we modify the detectable light intensity formula and simulate the hysteresis loops of the Kerr signal. The results show that they are in good agreement with the experimental data.  相似文献

The training effect and asymmetry in exchange-coupled polycrystalline CoO/Co bilayers with in-plane magnetization has been investigated. This system is selected for its large training effect and initial asymmetry of the magnetic hysteresis after field cooling, which is removed after training. Applying an in-plane magnetic field perpendicular to the cooling field largely restores the untrained state with its pronounced asymmetry. The possibility to reinduce the asymmetry strongly depends on the magnitude of the perpendicular field, providing the key to identify the physical origin of training and removal of the asymmetry. These effects result from misalignment between the ferromagnetic magnetization and the uncompensated magnetization of the granular antiferromagnet.  相似文献

The magnetization reversal in exchange-biased ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic (FM-AFM) bilayers is investigated. Different reversal pathways on each branch of the hysteresis loop, i.e., asymmetry, are obtained both experimentally and theoretically when the magnetic field is applied at certain angles from the anisotropy direction. The range of angles and the magnitude of this asymmetry are determined by the ratio between the FM anisotropy and the interfacial FM-AFM exchange anisotropy. The occurrence of asymmetry is linked with the appearance of irreversibility, i.e., finite coercivity, as well as with the maximum of exchange bias, increasing for larger anisotropy ratios. Our results indicate that asymmetric hysteresis loops are intrinsic to exchange-biased systems and the competition between anisotropies determines the asymmetric behavior of the magnetization reversal.  相似文献

We present a dynamical study of hysteresis loops of a MoS2/[Au/Co/Au] sandwich performed by surface magneto-optical Kerr effect with a field variation rate up to 1.2 MOe/s. An interpretation of dynamical effects at room temperature is proposed, using a modelization of the magnetization reversal. We discuss simulations which describe two different processes of the magnetization reversal to interpret the evolution of the hysteresis loops for several rates of variation of the magnetic field. For a first range of field variation rates lower than 180 kOe/s, the predominant mechanism seems to be wall motion and beyond 180 kOe/s, an expression for the magnetization is given, which supposes micro-domains reversal as a prevailing process. Finally, the general behaviour of the relaxation time, depending on the magnetic field, is investigated.  相似文献
