Photoionization-induced rearrangement of the water network in the trans-formanilide 1:4 cluster, FA-(H(2)O)(4), has been investigated by using IR-photodissociation spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. The IR spectrum of FA-(H(2)O)(4) in the S(0) state shows that the observed cluster has a cyclic hydrogen-bonded structure where the CO group and the NH group of FA are bridged with four water molecules, consistent with the reported structure [E. G. Robertson, Chem. Phys. Lett., 2000, 325, 299]. However, the corresponding cyclic hydrogen-bonded structure in the D(0) state of [FA-(H(2)O)(4)](+) is a minor product arising from photoionization via the S(1)-S(0) origin of FA-(H(2)O)(4). The dominant product has an extended H-bonded structure, where the intermolecular hydrogen bond between the hydrogen of the OH group of a water molecule and the CO group is dissociated. This is the first observation of a photoionization-induced rearrangement of the water network in [FA-(H(2)O)(4)](+). Through DFT calculations, we conclude that the rearrangement occurs due to entropic effects. 相似文献

We employed a four-step searching/screening approach to determine best candidates for the global minima of (H2O)11 and (H2O)13. This approach can be useful when there exist a large number of low-lying and near-isoenergetic isomers, many of which have the same oxygen-skeleton structure. On the two new candidates for the global minimum of (H2O)11, one isomer can be viewed as placing the 11th molecule onto the side of the global minimum of (H2O)10 and the other can be viewed as removing the 12th molecule from the middle layer of the global minimum of (H2O)12. The three leading lowest-energy clusters of (H2O)13 can all be built starting from the global minimum of (H2O)12, with the difference being in the location of the 13th water molecule. 相似文献

Extensive ab initio calculations both in gas phase and solution have been carried out to study the equilibrium structure, vibrational frequencies, and bonding characteristics of various actinyl (UO2(2+), NpO2(+), and PuO2(2+)) and their hydrated forms, AnO2(H2O)n(z+) (n=4, 5, and 6). Bulk solvent effects were studied using a continuum method. The geometries were fully optimized at the coupled-cluster singles + doubles (CCSD), density-functional theory (DFT), and M?ller-Plesset (MP2) level of theories. In addition vibrational frequencies have been obtained at the CCSD as well as MP2/DFT levels. The results show that both the short-range and long-range solvent effects are important. The combined discrete-continuum model, in which the ionic solute and the solvent molecules in the first and second solvation shells are treated quantum mechanically while the solvent is simulated by a continuum model, can predict accurately the bonding characteristics. Moreover, our values of solvation free energies suggest that five- and six-coordinations are equally preferred for UO2(2+), and five-coordinated species are preferred for NpO2(+) and PuO2(2+). On the basis of combined quantum-chemical and continuum treatments of the hydrated complexes, we are able to determine the optimal cavity radii for the solvation models. The coupled-cluster computations with large basis sets were employed for the vibrational spectra and equilibrium geometries both of which compare quite favorably with experiment. Our most accurate computations reveal that both five- and six-coordination complexes are important for these species. 相似文献

The structures of the cyclic water pentamer, the H3O+(H2O)3OH- zwitterion, and the H3O(H2O)3OH biradical form of the (H2O)5 cluster have been determined with the second-order M?ller-Plesset method and with density-functional theory (DFT). The vertical singlet excitation energies of these structures have been calculated with the second-order approximated coupled-cluster method and with time-dependent DFT, respectively. The molecular and electronic structures of the H3O(H2O)3OH biradical have been characterized for the first time. The lowest electronic states of the biradical are slightly lower in energy than the vertically excited states of the covalent and zwitterionic (H2O)5 clusters and therefore are photochemically accessible from the latter. The electronic absorption spectrum of the biradical exhibits the characteristic features of the absorption spectrum of the hydrated electron. It is argued that the basic mechanisms of the photochemistry of water, in particular the generation of the hydrated electron by UV photons, can be unraveled by relatively straightforward electronic structure and dynamics calculations for finite-size water clusters. 相似文献

A molecular crystal of silver cyclic amide Ag2(C4H4NO2)2(H2O) is studied using first-principles density functional theory calculations within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). A number of different exchange-correlation functionals are considered for a possible treatment of the system. It is found that the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof (PBE) GGA exchange-correlation functionals are adequate for the Ag2(C4H4NO2)2(H2O) crystal. The results obtained show the possibility to reproduce rather well the geometry of at least some molecular crystals by means of the periodic solid-state calculations if the computational parameters are chosen adequately. The present work also reports the analysis of the chemical bonding in the material and gives the total and partial density of states. Our solid-state computations point out the possible magnetic properties of the molecular crystal under study. 相似文献

The microwave spectrum for N-hydroxypyridine-2(1H)-thione (pyrithione) was measured in the frequency range 6-18 GHz, providing accurate rotational constants and nitrogen quadrupole coupling strengths for three isotopologues, C(5)H(4)(32)S(14)NOH, C(5)H(4)(32)S(14)NOD, and C(5)H(4)(34)S(14)NOH. Pyrithione was found to be in a higher concentration in the gas phase than the other tautomer, 2-mercaptopyridine-N-oxide (MPO). Microwave spectroscopy is best suited to determine which structure predominates in the gas phase. The measured rotational constants were used to accurately determine the coordinates of the substituted atoms and provided sufficient data to determine some of the important structural parameters for pyrithione, the only tautomer observed in the present work. The spectra were obtained using a pulsed-beam Fourier transform microwave spectrometer, with sufficient resolution to allow accurate measurements of the (14)N nuclear quadrupole hyperfine interactions. Ab initio calculations provided structural parameters and quadrupole coupling strengths that are in very good agreement with measured values. The experimental rotational constants for the parent compound are A = 3212.10(1), B = 1609.328(7), and C = 1072.208(6) MHz, yielding the inertial defect Δ(0) = -0.023 amu·?(2) for the C(5)H(4)(32)S(14)NOH isotopologue. The observed near zero inertial defect clearly indicates a planar structure. The least-squares fit structural analysis yielded the experimental bond lengths R(O-H) = 0.93(2) ?, R(C-S) = 1.66(2) ?, and angle (N-O-H) = 105(4)° for the ground state structure. 相似文献

Mid-infrared attenuated total internal reflection (ATR) spectra of H(2)16O, H(2)18O and D(2)16O in the liquid state were obtained and normal coordinate analysis was performed based on the potential energy surface obtained from density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Fits of the spectra to multiple Gaussians showed a consistent fit of three bands for the bending region and five bands for the stretching region for three isotopomers, H(2)16O, H(2)18O and D(2)16O. The results are consistent with previous work and build on earlier studies by the inclusion of three isotopomers and mixtures using the advantage of single-pass ATR to obtain high quality spectra of the water stretching bands. DFT calculation of the vibrational spectrum of liquid water was conducted on seven model systems, two systems with periodic boundary conditions (PBC) consisting of four and nine H(2)16O molecules, and five water clusters consisting of 4, 9, 19, 27 and 32 H(2)16O molecules. The PBC and cluster models were used to obtain a representation of bulk water for comparison with experiment. The nine-water PBC model was found to give a good fit to the experimental line shapes. A difference is observed in the broadening of the water bending and stretching vibrations indicative of a difference in the rate of pure dephasing. The nine-water PBC calculation was also used to calculate the wavenumber shifts observed in the water isotopomers. 相似文献

The ground-state rotational spectra of eight isotopomers of a complex formed by water and dibromine in the gas phase were observed by pulsed-jet, Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy. The spectroscopic constants B(0), C(0), delta(J), delta(JK), chi(aa)(Br(x)) (x=i for inner, o for outer), [chi(bb)(Br(x))-chi(cc)(Br(x))] and M(bb)(Br(x)) were determined for H(2)O...(79)Br(79)Br, H(2)O...(81)Br(79)Br, H(2)O...(79)Br(81)Br, H(2)O...(81)Br(81)Br, D(2)O...(79)Br(81)Br and D(2)O...(81)Br(81)Br. For the isotopomers HDO...(79)Br(81)Br and HDO...(81)Br(81)Br, only (B(0) + C(0))/2, delta(J), the chi(aa)(Br(x)) and M(bb)(Br(x)) were determinable. The spectroscopic constants were interpreted on the basis of several models of the complex to give information about its geometry, binding strength and the extent of electronic rearrangement on complex formation. The molecule H(2)O...Br(2) has C(s) symmetry with a pyramidal configuration at O. The zero-point effective quantities r(O...Br(i))=2.8506(1) A and phi(0)=46.8(1), where phi is the angle between the C(2) axis of H(2)O and the O...Br-Br internuclear axis, were obtained under the assumption of monomer geometries unchanged by complexation. Ab initio calculations, carried out at the aug-cc-pVDZ/MP2 level of theory, gave the equilibrium values r(e)(O...Br(i))=2.7908 A and phi(e)=45.7 degrees and confirmed the collinearity of the O...Br-Br nuclei. The potential energy function V(phi), also determined ab initio, showed that the wavenumber required for inversion of the configuration at O in the zero-point state is only 9 cm(-1). By interpreting the Br nuclear quadrupole coupling constants, the fractions delta(O-->Br(i))=0.004(5) and delta (Br(i)-->Br(o))=0.050(2) of an electron were determined to be transferred from O to Br(i) and Br(i) to Br(o), respectively, when the complex is formed. The complex is relatively weak, as indicated by the small value k(sigma)=9.8(2) N m(-1) of the intermolecular stretching force constant obtained from delta(J). A comparison of the properties, similarly determined, of H(2)O...F(2), H(2)O...Cl(2), H(2)O...Br(2), H(2)O...BrCl, H(2)O...ClF and H(2)O...ICl is presented. 相似文献

This paper describes a systematic study on the clathrate structure of (H+)(H2O)21 using tandem mass spectrometry, vibrational predissociation spectroscopy, Monte Carlo simulations, and density functional theory calculations. We produced (H+)(H2O)n from a continuous corona-discharged supersonic expansion and observed three anomalies simultaneously at the cluster temperature near 150 K, including (1) the peak at n=21 is more intense than its neighboring ions in the mass spectrum, (2) the size-dependent dissociation fractions show a distinct drop for the 21-mer, and (3) the infrared spectrum of (H+)(H2O)21 exhibits only a single feature at 3699 cm(-1), corresponding to the free-OH stretching of three-coordinated water molecules. Interestingly, the anomalies appear or disappear together with cluster temperature, indicating close correlation of these three observations. The observations, together with Monte Carlo simulations and density functional theory calculations, corroborate the notion for the formation of a distorted pentagonal dodecahedral (5(12)) cage with a H2O molecule in the cage and a H3O+ ion on the surface for this "magic number" water cluster ion. The dodecahedral cage melts at higher temperatures, as evidenced by the emergence of a free-OH stretching feature at 3717 cm(-1) for the two-coordinated water in (H+)(H2O)21 produced in a warmer molecular beam. Extension of this study to larger clusters strongly suggests that the experimentally observed isomer of (H+)(H2O)28 is most likely to consist of a distorted protonated pentakaidecahedral (5(12)6(3)) cage enclosing two neutral water molecules. 相似文献

Ce(H2O)(PO4)3/2(H3O)1/2(H2O)1/2, a second entry in the structural chemistry of cerium(IV) phosphates
《Solid State Sciences》2007,9(8):672-677
A cerium(IV) phosphate has been prepared using precipitation methods and its structure has been solved by single crystal X-ray diffraction (R1 = 0.0292 for 3092 reflections with I>2σ(I) and wR2 = 0.0540). Ce(H2O)(PO4)3/2(H3O)1/2(H2O)1/2 crystallises in the monoclinic space group C2/c (a = 15.7058(17) Å, b = 9.6261(9) Å, c = 10.1632(4) Å, ß = 121.623(7)°, and V = 1308.4 (2) Å3). Its structure is based on a negatively charged 3D framework, made of cerium atoms connected by PO4 tetrahedra. There are two types of PO4 units; one shares only corners with the cerium coordination polyhedra while the other one shares edges and corners. This structure also includes hydronium cations, to balance the framework charge, and water molecules. One special feature of this 3D framework is the formation of interconnected tunnels which extend along the c axis and contain the hydronium cations and the water molecules. This open framework and the presence of cationic species in the tunnels are in perfect agreement with the previously reported ion exchange properties. 相似文献

The PM3 quantum-mechanical method is able to model the magic water clusters (H2O)20 and (H2O)21H+. Results indicate that the H3O+ ion is tightly bound within the (H2O)20 cluster by multiple hydrogen bonds, causing deformation to the symmetric (H2O)20 pentagonal dodecahedron structure. The structures, energetics, and hydrogen bond patterns of six local minima (H2O)21H+ clusters are presented. © John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 相似文献

Geometries of several clusters of water molecules including single minimum energy structures of n‐mers (n=1–5), several hexamers and two structures of each of heptamer to decamer derived from hexamer cage and hexamer prism were optimized. One structural form of each of 11‐mer and 12‐mer were also studied. The geometry optimization calculations were performed at the RHF/6‐311G* level for all the cases and at the MP2/6‐311++G** level for some selected cases. The optimized cluster geometries were used to calculate total energies of the clusters in gas phase employing the B3LYP density functional method and the 6‐311G* basis set. Frequency analysis was carried out in all the cases to ensure that the optimized geometries corresponded to total energy minima. Zero‐point and thermal free energy corrections were applied for comparison of energies of certain hexamers. The optimized cluster geometries were used to solvate the clusters in bulk water using the polarized continuum model (PCM) of the self‐consistent reaction field (SCRF) theory, the 6‐311G* basis set, and the B3LYP density functional method. For the cases for which MP2/6‐311++G** geometry optimization was performed, solvation calculations in water were also carried out using the B3LYP density functional method, the 6‐311++G** basis set, and the PCM model of SCRF theory, besides the corresponding gas‐phase calculations. It is found that the cage form of water hexamer cluster is most stable in gas phase among the different hexamers, which is in agreement with the earlier theoretical and experimental results. Further, use of a newly defined relative population index (RPI) in terms of successive total energy differences per water molecule for different cluster sizes suggests that stabilities of trimers, hexamers, and nonamers in gas phase and those of hexamers and nonamers in bulk water would be favored while those of pentamer and decamer in both the phases would be relatively disfavored. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The reaction of CH(3)C(O)CH(2)O(2) with HO(2) has been studied at 296 K and 700 Torr using long path FTIR spectroscopy, during photolysis of Cl(2)/acetone/methanol/air mixtures. The branching ratio for the reaction channel forming CH(3)C(O)CH(2)O, OH and O(2) () was investigated in experiments in which OH radicals were scavenged by addition of benzene to the system, with subsequent formation of phenol used as the primary diagnostic for OH radical formation. The observed prompt formation of phenol under conditions when CH(3)C(O)CH(2)O(2) reacts mainly with HO(2) indicates that this reaction proceeds partially by channel , which forms OH both directly and indirectly, by virtue of secondary generation of CH(3)C(O)O(2) (from CH(3)C(O)CH(2)O) and its reaction with HO(2) (). The secondary generation of OH radicals was confirmed by the observed formation of CH(3)C(O)OOH, a well-established product of the CH(3)C(O)O(2) + HO(2) reaction (via channel ). A number of delayed sources of OH also contribute to the observed phenol formation, such that full characterisation of the system required simulations using a detailed chemical mechanism. The dependence of the phenol and CH(3)C(O)OOH yields on the initial peroxy radical precursor reagent concentration ratio, [methanol](0)/[acetone](0), were well described by the mechanism, consistent with a small but significant fraction of the reaction of CH(3)C(O)CH(2)O(2) with HO(2) proceeding via channel . This allowed a branching ratio of k(3b)/k(3) = 0.15 +/- 0.08 to be determined. The results therefore provide strong indirect evidence for the participation of the radical-forming channel of the title reaction. 相似文献

The X-band EPR study of a polycrystalline Cs2Cu(ZrF6)2*6H2O demonstrates a feature of plasticity of the Jahn-Teller Cu(H2O)6 complex in the crystal lattice of this compound. The temperature- and pressure-induced evolution of the spectra shows that the copper complex is extremely sensitive to these factors, which due to the ferroelastic properties of the compound studied modify the internal tetragonal and orthorhombic strains acting on the complex. It is supported by the analysis of the temperature dependencies of the principal values of the g-factor under various pressures, indicating that the complex varies its shape adapting it to the varied conditions. A pressure-induced phase transition is discovered. 相似文献

The proton magnetic shielding constants in the water molecule and its linear perpendicular dimer are computed from SCF-MO-LCGO wave functions by using the uncoupled Hartree-Fock variation-perturbation procedure due to Karplus and Kolker. The convergence of the calculated shielding constants as well as their gauge dependence is studied. The final results for 17-term polynomial variation function indicate that the best choice for the gauge origin corresponds to the molecular electronic centroid. The calculated proton magnetic shielding constant in the water molecule is in remarkable agreement with experimental data and favourably compares with the best coupled Hartree-Fock results. It follows from the calculations for the water dimer that the H-bond NMR-shift amounts in this case —1.0 ppm and qualitatively agrees with the experimental data for the liquid water. 相似文献

Absorption of oxygen molecules by water clusters with sizes of 10 ≤ i ≤ 50 is studied by the molecular dynamics method using the modified TIP4P model. It is revealed that the total dipole moment
of the clusters nonmonotonically increases with their sizes. Absorption of O2 molecules tends to raise the static permittivity of the ultradispersed medium formed by the clusters. The real and imaginary
parts of the permittivity of water clusters with absorbed O2 molecules are aperiodic functions of frequency. The permittivity components turn out to be nonmonotonic functions of cluster
sizes. The IR absorption and reflectance spectra are calculated for clusters of pure water and aggregates with absorbed O2 molecules. After the addition of oxygen molecules, the absorption coefficient of the clusters decreases, while the reflection
coefficient increases. It is concluded that the capture of oxygen molecules by atmospheric moisture may reduce the greenhouse
effect.
