Remote spectrophotometry as applied to determination of the degree of mineralization of peat soils in polesie

Regression relations between the first main component, slope of the SBC curve towards the wavelength axis, and the degree of mineralization of peat soils are established from experimental data. Errors in determination of peat soil productivity are estimated using different spectral indices. For practical use it is recommended to measure the spectral brightness coefficients of peat soils in the 0.50–0.75 μm range. B. I. Luminescence of mercurylike impurities in single-crystal CdWO4 compounds

The processes of crystallization by the method of liquid epitaxy are studied for the first time for single-crystal films of CdWO₄ doped with the mercurylike ions Bi³⁺ and Pb²⁺, which can be used as thin-film components of combined scintillators for monitoring α- and β-activities. It is shown that in comparison with their solidcrystal analogs, the special features of these films consist in a longwave shift of the integral luminescence spectrum that is caused by high concentrations of the radiating complexes (V_Cd-WO₆) with hv_max=2.05–2.15 eV and the “distorted” complexes (WO₆)^* in them. It is found that in the case of luminescence of single-crystal films CdWO₄:Pb, radiation of mercurylike centers (PbO₆) prevails with hv_max=2.87 eV, while in luminescence of CdWO4, radiation of centers (BiO₆) with hv_max=2.16 eV and of complexes (V_Cd-WO₆). Application of the Volterra filter in experimental diffraction data processing

The effective signal in x-ray diffraction analysis of material properties often contains high frequency (noise) and low frequency (trend) components as additive parts. It is necessary to extract the effective signal from the noise to ensure high quality of signal processing. Digital filters of Volterra type are proposed for filtering purposes and a comparison of Volterra filtration implemented on x-ray diffraction data versus results from a set of other digital filters is given.     

Transverse magnetic scattering of two incident plane waves by a dielectric coated cylindrical reflector

Scattering characteristics of two plane waves are investigated for a circular cylinder covered by a dielectric substance. Fields are assumed to be transverse magnetic (TM) and represented in an exponential series form. The diffracted radiations are found by applying the boundary conditions to the wave functions. The wave transformation method and the orthogonality of the exponential functions are respectively employed to obtain an infinite series in the solution. Numerical results are evaluated by reducing the infinite series to a finite number of terms and comparing estimates with the single plane wave scattering situation.
