A unified theory for the current through a mesoscopic region of interacting electrons connected to two leads which can be either ferromagnet or superconductor is presented, yielding Meir-Wingreen-type formulas when applied to specific circumstances. In such a formulation, the requirement of gauge invariance is satisfied automatically. Moreover, one can judge unambiguously what quantities can be measured in the transport experiment. We report transport measurements on Superconductor/Ferromagnet/Superconductor (S/F/S) junctions: Nb/Al/Gd/Al/Nb where gadolinium (Gd) is a weakly polarized ferromagnet. A sizeable critical current I c is observed in the I(V) characteristics. This current can be modulated by a weak magnetic field, as expected for a Josephson current. With these experiments, we establish that superconducting coherent transport survives across a small ferromagnetic layer. The penetration depth of Cooper pairs in Gd has been measured. An extensive study of the Josephson critical current in temperature for different thicknesses of magnetic compounds is presented. A comparison of transport measurements with S/N/S junction is given through measurements made on Nb/Al/Y/Al/Nb, where yttrium (Y) is used as non magnetic rare earth metal. The influence of the finite transparency, , of superconductor/normal metal (S/N) interface on the critical temperature of proximity coupled layered structures is investigated in the dirty limit on the basis of the microscopic equations solved exactly by a matrix method. The calculated theoretical curves satisfactory reproduce the experimental dependencies of the critical temperature on the thickness of the superconducting layers in N/S/N trilayers. The relation between the transparency coefficient and the normal metal coherence length is also discussed.  相似文献

We study theoretically the current-noise energy (voltage bias and temperature) dependence for a N-N'-S structure, where N and S stand for bulk normal metal and superconductor, respectively, and N' for a short diffusive normal metal. Using quasiclassical theory of current fluctuations we determine the noise for arbitrary distributions of channel transparencies on both junctions. The differential Fano factor turns out to depend on both junction transparencies and the ratio of the two conductances. We discuss analytically the coherent and incoherent regimes and the case when one of the two conductances dominates the other one. Measurement of differential conductance and noise can be used to probe the channel distribution of the interfaces. We discuss recent experiments in the light of our results.  相似文献

We present a model of pressure effects of a two-band superconductor based on a Ginzburg-Landau free energy with two order parameters. The parameters of the theory are pressure as well as temperature dependent. New pressure effects emerge as a result of the competition between the two bands. The theory then is applied to MgB2. We identify two possible scenaria regarding the fate of the two σ subbands under pressure, depending on whether or not both subbands are above the Fermi energy at ambient pressure. The splitting of the two subbands is probably caused by the E2g distortion. If only one subband is above the Fermi energy at ambient pressure (scenario I), application of pressure diminishes the splitting and it is possible that the lower subband participates in the superconductivity. The corresponding crossover pressure and Gr neisen parameter are estimated. In the second scenario both bands start above the Fermi energy and they move below it, either by pressure or via the substitution of Mg by Al. In both scenaria, the possibility of electronical topological transition is emphasized. Experimental signatures of both scenaria are presented and existing experiments are discussed in the light of the different physical pictures. The problem of the thermal and magnetic destruction of the critical state in composite superconductors is investigated. The initial distributions of temperature and electromagnetic field are assumed to be essentially inhomogeneous. The limit of the thermomagnetic instability in quasi-stationary approximation is determined. The obtained integral criterion, unlike the analogous criterion for a homogeneous temperature profile, is shown to take into account the influence of any part of the superconductor on the threshold for critical-state instability. Interlayer magnetoresistance and magnetisation of the quasi-two dimensional organic metal (BEDT-TTF)8Hg4Cl12(C6H5Br)2 have been investigated in pulsed magnetic fields extending up to 60 T and 33 T, respectively. About fifteen fundamental frequencies, composed of linear combinations of only three basic frequencies, are observed in the oscillatory spectra of the magnetoresistance. The dependencies of the oscillation amplitude on the temperature and on the magnitude and orientation of the magnetic field are analyzed in the framework of the conventional two-dimensional Lifshitz-Kosevitch (LK) model. This model is implemented by damping factors which accounts for the magnetic breakthrough occurring between electron and hole orbits yielding conventional Shubnikov-de Haas closed orbits (model of Falicov and Stachowiak) and quantum interferometers. In particular, a quantum interferometer enclosing an area equal to the first Brillouin zone area is evidenced. The LK model consistently accounts for the temperature and magnetic field dependence of the oscillation amplitude of this interferometer. On the contrary, although this model formally accounts for almost all of the observed oscillatory components, it fails to give consistent quantitative data in most other cases. The influence of thermalized non-coherent carriers on the dielectric function of GaAs/AlAs quantum wells is investigated by reflection spectroscopy. Experiments are performed using the method of spectral interferometry, where both amplitude and phase of reflected pulses can be determined. For low excitation density the complex coefficient of reflection can be described using as dielectric function a broadened Elliot formula. With increasing carrier density pronounced nonlinearities appear in both amplitude and phase due to many-body effects between excited carriers. The nonlinear behavior fits very well to the results of a many-body theory based on the Semiconductor Bloch equations including memory effects in the scattering processes between carriers and the polarization induced by the probe pulse. Low frequency transport measurements are performed on GdSr2RuCu2O8 pellets. The observed current-voltage curves are qualitatively explained in the framework of a simple phenomenological model accounting for coexistence in the sample of ferromagnetism and superconductivity. A Curie temperature T cM = 133 K and a superconducting critical temperature T cS = 18 K, with an onset temperature T cO = 33 K, are extracted from the analysis of the current-voltage curves. We present electrical transport experiments performed on submicron hybrid devices made of a ferromagnetic conductor (Co) and a superconducting (Al) electrode. The sample was patterned in order to separate the contributions of the Co conductor and of the Co-Al interface. We observed a strong influence of the Al electrode superconductivity on the resistance of the Co conductor. This effect is large only when the interface is highly transparent. We characterized the dependence of the observed resistance decrease on temperature, bias current and magnetic field. As the differential resistance of the ferromagnet exhibits a non-trivial asymmetry, we claim that the magnetic domain structure plays an important role in the electron transport properties of superconducting / ferromagnetic conductors. We have extended the balance equations to account for conduction-valence interband impact ionization (II) process induced by an intense terahertz (THz) electromagnetic irradiation in semiconductors, and applied them to study the II effect on electron transport and electron-hole pair generation-recombination rate in THz-driven InAs/AlSb heterojunctions (HJ). As many as needed multiphoton channels are self-consistently taken into account for yielding a given accuracy. The time evolution of transport state including THz-radiation-induced II process are monitored in details by an extensive time-dependent analysis. Two different physical stages, the quasi-steady state and the complete steady-state, are clearly identified from the present calculations. Intersubband electron transfer rate and net electron-hole generation rate are derived as functions of the THz radiation strength E ac for various radiation frequencies from f ac = 0.42 to 6 THz at lattice temperatures T = 6 K. It's indicated that the THz radiation with a larger E ac or a lower f ac, has a stronger effect on electron transport and II process. Qualitative agreement is obtained between the calculated electron-hole generation rate and the available experimental data for InAs/AlSb HJ's at T = 6 K. To illustrate complex spatio-temporal effects which are possible in cellular reactions with a small number of particles, we present Monte Carlo simulations of the formation of oscillatory spark-like patterns in a model completely stochastic Ca+2 oscillator. Our analysis shows that in order to observe such patterns the minimum average number of Ca+2 ions in the cytosol may be as low as about 50. The Nambu spinor Green's function approach is applied to calculating the density of states (DOS) and superconducting order parameter in normal-metal/insulator/ferromagnet/superconductor (NM/I/FM/SC) junctions. It is found that the s-wave superconductivity and ferromagnetism can coexist near the FM/SC interface, which is induced by proximity effect. On the SC side, the spin-dependent DOS appears both within and without the energy gap. On the FM side, the superconducting order parameter displays a damped oscillation and the DOS exhibits some superconducting behavior. The calculated result for the DOS in FM for “0 state” and “π state” can reproduce recent tunneling spectra in Al/Al2O3/PdNi/Nb tunnel junctions. Progress is reviewed of available data for evaluation of atomic masses since the 1995 one. Many more direct mass measurements have become available, especially in the region of proton-rich nuclides. The number of alpha- and, especially, proton-decay data increased considerably. In the region of superhigh mass numbers, many very interesting new observations were made. We study the dynamics of a growing crystalline facet where the growth mechanism is controlled by the geometry of the local curvature. A continuum model, in (2+1) dimensions, is developed in analogy with the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) model is considered for the purpose. Following standard coarse graining procedures, it is shown that in the large time, long distance limit, the continuum model predicts a curvature independent KPZ phase, thereby suppressing all explicit effects of curvature and local pinning in the system, in the “perturbative” limit. A direct numerical integration of this growth equation, in 1+1 dimensions, supports this observation below a critical parametric range, above which generic instabilities, in the form of isolated pillared structures lead to deviations from standard scaling behaviour. Possibilities of controlling this instability by introducing statistically “irrelevant" (in the sense of renormalisation groups) higher ordered nonlinearities have also been discussed. The field-induced carrier redistribution between the subbands of a semiconductor superlattice is treated using the density matrix approach. The unit cell of the superlattice consists of one quantum well with three occupied subbands. Carrier scattering on polar-optical phonons is described within the microscopic bulk phonon model. At the tunneling resonance, an intrinsic population inversion is observed. The temperature dependence of the population inversion is determined. In this report we demonstrate that high quality epitaxial heterostructures, based on metallic SrRuO3 and insulating SrTiO3 individual blocks a few unit cells thick, can be grown in a purely 2D, layer-by-layer mode, using pulsed laser deposition with in situ reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) diagnostics. The thickness of each constituent block can be controlled at the level of a single unit cell. A detailed investigation carried out at the synchrotron facility, ESRF, by various X-ray techniques has demonstrated that each intensity oscillation of the RHEED specular spot corresponds strictly to the growth of a single perovskite unit cell, either SrRuO3 or SrTiO3. Furthermore, we show that, in these structures, the interfaces between the different constituent blocks are very sharp with a roughness of only one unit cell. We have performed noise measurements on suspended ropes of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNT) between 1 and 300 K for different values of dc current through the ropes. We find that the shot noise is suppressed by more than a factor 100 compared to the full shot noise 2eI. We have also measured an individual SWNT and found a level of noise which is smaller than the minimum expected. Another finding is the very low level of 1/f noise, which is significantly lower than previous observations. We propose two possible interpretations for the strong shot noise reduction: i) Transport within a rope takes place through few nearly ballistic tubes within a rope and possibly involves non integer effective charges with e *∼ 0.3e. ii) A substantial fraction of the tubes conduct with a strong reduction of effective charge (by more than a factor 50).
